Time for another challenge - this time with some changes :) I thought it might be interesting to do this challenge on a less virtuoso piece - which does not mean that it is less difficult!:) In fact it was suuuuper difficult because I couldn't hide behind a lot of notes and fast fingers... I had to work on every single note, trying to make it sing - maybe one of the hardest challenges so far:) Have you ever played a Song without Words by Mendelssohn? Tell me in the comments! :)

Haha, it is funny how your 1 min performance is better than my 1h. I have the impression that Mendelssohn's works are generally much harder than they appear. It is nice to see you commenting on the difficulties of this piece. I would be interested in hearing that on your next challenges. People often associate difficulty with playing fast, not realizing all the technical and musical subtleties that go with slower pieces. In my opinion, those commentaries would always be appreciated :)

It's really, really interesting watching you interpret and learn this piece. It's one of those songs that I grew up listening to and never really thought much about it or how difficult it may be. When you said you'd drown it in pedal it made me think of a lot of the recordings I have listened to and I think now they're quite lazy and perhaps not very thoughtful. Definitely drowned in pedal. Your interpretation makes the piece sound very light and much more like spring. It makes more sense and is much more interesting to me.

This is a less common piece, but one of my favorites. Greig Op. 1. Four Pieces for Piano, No.1. It is only a minute long, so technically you could do the whole thing. It has such a beautiful melody and can still be heard over the fast sixteen notes. You should definitely try it out.

Interesting choice. For some reason, that particular song without words has found its way into pop culture here for decades, in the form of background music in countless cartoons, TV shows and movies. I knew the melody right away, but didn't know previously that this was a famous Mendelssohn piece for solo piano. Definitely a lot going on with the three voices, so it made for another great challenge to watch!!

Let's just put it this way.. What was done in 1 min or 1 hour here might take me 500 years heheh. In other words - this rate of learning amazes me already. One other comment ----- the heart beat sounds that come up ---- such as at 6:31 makes me nervous hahaha. And - how did Mendelssohn and company (Mozart, Beethoven etc) even come up with that kind of amazing music? I wonder if anybody in these modern times have created anything that is unique (but on equivalent 'level) like that.

GREAT video. This was super interesting. Incidentally, this piece (and probably all the other Songs without Words by Mendelssohn) is well-known for being super difficult to play. I've never tried it myself! My playing level is well below this, I certainly couldn't play it right now, nor even in a few years. It is, however, one of my favourite pieces to listen to. It was very interesting to see the struggle, the solutions, the technique, the pitfalls... Certainly inspiring. Thank you very much!
