Some of the best short solo piano pieces ever composed.

Felix the Mendelssohn. The wonderful, wonderful Mendelssohn.
Meow.
Mendelssohn (Checking the mailbox) "Fuck it...I'm done waiting on this poet"

@@theKantianCat The poet was busy writing, "Lyrics without Music."
This will quench the dryness of Your soul
WOW, this really shows off the greatness of Mendelssohn and his piano music in general, which are highly underrated. His piano music really does deserve more respect and recognition. These songs without words are simply on par with--but the less technically difficult versions of--those Schubert-Liszt Lieder, which are nowadays almost de rigueur among the pianists. Well then, so should these Mendelssohn.
Liszt has composed some transcriptions of Mendehlssohns work too🤩
@@bozzigmupp510 Liszt does it all🔥
Totally agree
he's not underrated at all imo, he's exactly where he should be in terms of recognition. These pieces are still played oftentimes and rightly so. Furthermore his symphonies, his violin concerto, his ouvertures, his octet etc. are very well known...
greatness? do you really have human ears?
My God, how beautiful
I know right 🙌

Superb music making and wonderful, wonderful melodies from a truly great composer.❤️
All the Songs Without Words songs are just beautiful!
No One Will Ever Disrespect Such Masterpieces,
Ever.
I'd like to believe it but respect is scarce nowadays.
Mendelssohn had a gift for beguiling beauty, and these pieces are a testament to that. I have to say some melt into one another indistinguishably, but others stand out as hauntingly unique. The 3rd Venetian Boat Song is a striking example, one of the most somber and evocative things he ever wrote.
Hes a master with melody
@@johannsebastienbach #3 has always been a favorite of all his works. Well, along with the Rondo Capriccioso and his Scottish and Italian Symphonies.
I prefer his first (op. 19 no. 6). Something about that D F Eb D in bars 3-5 has always tugged at my heartstrings.
@@pierre9694 19.6 is definitely the sunnier of the two. I suppose I'm drawn to #3 because it's eerie.
hello? My name is Jeongmin Lee and I live in Korea. I like music. Among them, my favorite music is Mendelssohn's Something. It literally means that it is a song without lyrics. Although there are no lyrics, I really like that Mendelssohn's unique beautiful sensibility is conveyed. In my case, I also like pure, warm music. This is also true. thank you
The best thing you can listen for 2 hours.
Not the best, surely one of the best things.
Thank you Mendelssohn for creating such beautiful melodies that I can listen to and enjoy today. Simply amązing!
he cant hear you, hes on jewisch paradise with all the palestinian killers
15:12 - is my personal favorite.
I have listened to classical piano for years now and cannot believe that Mendelssohn has escaped my ears until now. Such beautiful melodies and amazing compositions. Mesmerizing.
The Venetian Gondola Song Op. 30 is astonishing ! Such simple but beautiful harmonies. Simple left hand accompaniment but full of emotions and passion. Such an amazing work !
Lieder ohne Worte...Lied No 6, mir fehlen die Worte...
All the Venetian Boat Songs... my favorites by far. My goal is to learn the Gmin one this year.
Which one? I learned no 6 a few years back, when I was 12, doing my AMEB grade 5 exam. I enjoyed playing it:)

Best video ever. Thank you!!!
Great video. Thanks.
so peaceful
Very impressive songs session for piano.
Thanks for uploading. 🙂
Marvelous interpretation, so sensitive and measured. Mendelssohn has never been valued as well as it deserved.
I love it❤

The pianist plays so beautifully here. ❤
Thank you for this video, you deserve way more fame. I love these short piano pieces.
I have a whole sheet music book from Alfred. This is very helpful to learn it. Thank you so much!
Thank you Tyler
Ok yeah was not expecting this to be this good
Concerted to his music now haha 😅
I am very impressed by cool chords at 1:08:40
The song at 1:36:27 is also great
At the nice ellipsis near 1:41:10
1:48:10 - what a cool reminder of violin concerto! I think that if he had lived longer, we would witness the atonality much earlier

The change of For me it is 16:33 (a bit later, just context reference) the change of key is absolutely beautiful

Jewish people are very talented
I admit that all pieces are great. I used to play only of them, but thankfully to youtube, i have had the pleasure to listen to each of pieces
Mendelssohn had not only great melodic and harmonic talents, but also an enormous sense of taste, which makes his music so heartwarming. Tolstoy.also agrees with me, that better he'd listen to charming Jewish Mendelssohn music comparing to racially pure rigid Wagner operas
I can hear also the 2nd theme of the second trio first movement, being transposed from C minor.
Hunter song is my favorite, I've played it 🥺 (№3)
O N 19 é belíssimo.
This set of pieces remind me of my childhood somehow. I love op 30 no 1 sm :}
🤩🤩🤩 Gorgeous!!!
Op. 62, N° 5... just WOW.
Yes see Wikipedia the name is Yiddish/German/Polish meaning son of Mendel, a diminutive of the original Hebrew name Menachem, which means ‘one who consoles’

I had never heard all of these until my 50's and yet a few generations ago musicians played these at home and everone knew them. Why didnt Rubinstein hace a set of these recorded? 1 and 3 are really charming like noone .chopin and schumann always have demons coming Schumann gave us heaven in Gesange de Fruh and so many places the Fantasy is like noting on earth as Kreisleriana and Vienna. So late in life now Discovering the unalloyed pleasuresof Mendelssohn ! What a marvel !
nice one :)
I wish someone would pick this up and do an orchestration for it. It is such a beautiful work.
Orchestration would be disastrous. Its beauty lies in the simple melodic lines and graceful singing voice.
@@titicatfollies6615 maybe you know more than I do but for me I can't imagine it being ruined by orchestration. I like big works and some of the melodies would be nice to be heard with big orchestrated harmonies.

You are correct about the music being in public domain. The performance & recording of it are under copyright... recorded in 2009.

My personal favorite is 8:03, though I wish it was played slower. The tempo in Peter Nagy's rendition in Spotify is perfect
I also think Nagy's performance is the best. Can't find the album on YT music anymore 😑

amazing pieces. Looks simple, yet sounds and feels far from it
Beautiful. But I have often asked myself, why do so many of these seem to start the tune/phrase in the middle of the bar? If you're listening but then you look at the score you always find the bar line is two beats earlier than your ear was telling you. In these scores you'll actually see a double barline sometimes to show it!
i had to pay my double barline the other day or they would have cut me off
That's called an anacrusis (or 'pickup' for the young-ins) and it just means the piece doesn't start on the down beat.
@@abrowncownow360 ...I get anacrusis, but what you still hear is (say) 1 of 4/4 even though it's scored as 3 of 4/4, and the whole piece still fits perfectly. If the player's phrasing and technique distinguishes between 1 or 3 of 4/4 then it's way too subtle for my ear.
