Here's the full story of the customs issue... I live in Canada, the buyer is in California, and I shipped the table in two boxes via UPS. I included customs invoices, thinking that was sufficient, but I was wrong. A few days after shipping, we noticed that the package was being held in a warehouse in Michigan, so I called UPS and they told me that they needed a Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) declaration. After a fair amount of research, we filled it out (which basically just says what the table is made of), and submitted it to the email address we were provided. A few days later, no movement. Called UPS again, and they told us they had no record of the form. The buyer tried to resubmit the form with no success, and eventually, UPS just sent the packages back to me. When the boxes arrived back at my doorstep, they were not only undamaged, but it looks like they were never opened. The customs invoices were also unopened. So, yeah. An annoying, ridiculous problem that probably could've been avoided if I had hired a customs broker. Next time. Kudos to you if you've read this far!

It's such a small thing, but I hear it all the time in the woodworking community and just have to mention it: epoxy doesn't "go exothermic." The chemical reaction that takes place as epoxy cures IS exothermic, meaning it generates heat as it progresses. This is in contrast to an endothermic reaction, which has to take heat in from the environment in order to progress. One example of an endothermic reaction is the one that happens inside those chemical cold packs that people use for injuries. Until very recently I taught math and science, and this is one of those situations where I love that people know the word, but want us to use it correctly. When epoxy is poured too thickly, the heat that is released by the chemical reaction that is the curing process can't dissipate quickly enough. This actually speeds up the reaction, releasing more heat and causing a sort of runaway greenhouse effect in the epoxy. The temperature differential between the top and bottom of the epoxy causes it to warp and crack.
Anyway, end of pedantic science teacher rant. The table is gorgeous! I love the white epoxy. I'm not totally sold on the circular shelf. I think that because it's the only curved feature on the table while everything else is polygonal, it draws too much focus from the top, which is clearly supposed to be the star of the show. I think that a general good rule to follow is to choose one element of your design that will be the central focus, and to design the rest of the piece around that that element in ways that support it and match with its style. I think I would prefer a hexagonal shelf basically. I love the white epoxy though! Black is so overdone and boring to me, and the white makes this look so visually lightweight, which I love.

You could have caulk it in the inside part of the acrylic rim. The epoxy wouldn't stick to the caulk.

I think having the expectation that something is going to sell immediately as a creator and artist is a challenging way to approach projects. Not everything sells, it may takes weeks or months. That’s only from my experience but I’ve made leather goods that sell the second I put them out and some I think will sell immediately end up sitting for a month or two.

Not sure if someone mentioned this alrdy, but Cam at Blacktail Studios uses landscape border for edges when doing round tables and epoxy doesnt stick to it. He also used flex seal when he gets leaks from an epoxy pour. Hopefully this helps if someone hasnt mentioned it alrdy and I hope your next project goes great!

Hi Morley, thanks for another enjoyable video. I do a lot of resin work, and I seal my mould by pouring a small amount of resin along the inside of the joints to seal them and let it harden for a day, before doing the main pour. You're affectively sealing the mould from both the inside and the outside, and I very rarely get any leaks. Take a quick a look at one of my videos if you want to see what I mean.

Low VOC does not mean no voc. I would suggest never doing anything resin indoors without some form of ventilation.

bro your under selling yourself. Toronto is the financial district of Canada. Try reaching out to a Gallery or contact high end interior decorators, high end Realtors because they usually use staging companies. Facebook market is ok for eyes to see your work but it’s not your market. people using facebook want to buy extremely cheap. the best thing for you in the future is to move out your apt and get a working studio where you can live and work the back. keep a show room store front. Collaborate with other artist in the greater Toronto area to bring their art to sell in your store!!!
