- In this video, I go over the difference between filming in TimeWarp Mode and filming in TimeLapse mode on a GoPro and what mode you should choose in different scenarios. Basically a TimeWarp video is the same as a Hyperlapse video, GoPro just gave the feature a creative name. The GoPro Hero 9 Black introduced TimeWarp 3.0 and it brought some new features such as half-speed ramping and real-time ramping with audio. I include lots of samples comparing a Time-Lapse video to a TimeWarp video.

Good to know stuff here. One thing I noticed in the driving section... In Time lapse Mode (3:20) - the camera keeps the foreground (the hood of the car) rock steady, which makes the scenery appear just a little more shakey. Conversely - in the Time Warp Mode at 3:45 - the camera keeps the horizon steady, but the car's hood moves around much more than Time Lapse. So it's good to know what you want to remain stable - the subject or the background - and then choose accordingly. Thanks for the demo!
Thank you for the timestamps
I have got the Hero 9 Black for Christmas. I have no idea how it works and being a very old guy (70) might take me a while! But the bike rides in 4k have been good, just have to get used to the way it operates. This video has explained the Time and Hyper modes well enough for me to go take a try. Cheers buddy. (edited cos my spelling was buggered!)
Hey man, good on you for messing with this stuff at 70! My old man is 75 and while scared of computer tech, he still manages to use his iPad okay!
I agree, I think it's awesome you are spending time to learn all of this instead of just throwing your arms up at it. My grandfather is 84 and is in the few that is actually quite great with technology with the occasional need for help with his desktop but uses a cell phone digital camera, ipad etc. I love hearing others in the age category where most dont bother to learn any of this with new technology ❤
Here’s what I think might be a tip: use your smart phone to set up the camera for a shoot. I’ve got 60yo eyes and it’s a lot easier to work the camera with my phone than to see and push those tiny buttons.
Up'd the game plan, 78 this year, been using Hero 8 since it came out, and still learning, but use the kiss method (keep it simple stupid) on all my toys, GoPro, Mav 2 Drone, 2021 Radrover 5, Giant Hybrid Bike and most recently 2022 Kawasaki Mule. And when my head is spinning full of info, slow it down with a shot of whiskey. Life is great.....
Hope you’ve been enjoying your GoPro Pete. That’s a great gift!
This is a super useful tutorial! The hyper laps was stabilizing the horizon...it’s a pretty big difference.
Thank you for the thorough breakdown, this really helped me understand the time warp feature and then you gopro hero 9.
Air PHotography... you're the BEST! You EXPLAIN and SHOW how it works and the real difference btween TL and TW. Loved it.
Wow, I had no idea that there’s a difference between the two. Time warp looks so much smoother, gonna switch to it for my travel videos. Thanks for putting this together!
Great Background Music, buddy. The tempo perfectly matches the speed. 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing these tips. Will surely use them.
Aap bhi yaha videos dekhte ho.
you all probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Marcel Sincere Instablaster ;)
@Blaze Taylor I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Blaze Taylor It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
Thank you for the effort you put into these vids. You helped me out alot with my go pro and Mavic Mini
I’m learning a lot from your very organized videos. Thank you for doing this. 🙂
Air Photography THANK YOU so much for showing us and explaining the difference to us between time warp and timelapse. That's EXACTLY what I need to know. NOw I know.. thanks to you. I can see Timewarp is my preferred choice.
Thx!!! I just got the hero9, and I'm super excited at its possibilities! Thx from this newbie
Very helpful thanks! Just picked up my first GoPro, a Hero 9 black, and your videos are a great help. 👍🏻
I love the timewarp function! Works well when driving for a longer distance
Dude, your videos are some of the best I've seen on youtube! Besides the excellent subject matter, you waste absolutely 0 time! Every second is something useful. And your content, like the simultaneous side-by-side, is exactly what people want to see in a video like this. You should do a "how to make a youtube video" series!
Thank you very much it’s always nice to hear when somebody enjoys my video. I have had a lot of questions and people mentioning similar video ideas that is something I may look into
Thank you so much. Just got two of these gopros and this was a real help.
thanks for sharing details and providing more understanding on these two modes...
Thank you, this is helpful to understand both the features in detail!
Very helpful. I'll be using my HERO 9 Black on a cross country trip as a dash cam and needed to know these things. Thank you
I'm really excited to try this out. Thanks for sharing. Lynn and Danny
Appreciated Mr. Air Photography! I’ll have to try this on my motorcycle now! I’m excited to try. Keep up the great videos and I’ll be here! :)
Great review, cheers. Love the forest there!
Great info on this video. Never considered using these options until now. thanks!
I just got a hero 8 and really new to all of this but this really helps me!!
Thank you!❤
Thank you very much
Thank you for this video! I’m new to the time warp !
Thanks, I just got a go pro last week and tested out timewarp today. Now I know why my video didn't catch the audio when I hit the normal speed button (it was half speed) this helped a bunch. Looking forward to learning more gopro tricks from your channel.
Thank you I’m glad you found it helpful
Timelapse or Timewarp? Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. 👍👍
I appreciate your effort. Thanks!
I go timewarp all the time and it churns out amazing footage all the time.
It's pretty cool. You might want to try Night Lapse mode for night videos to have better quality because you can control the ISO and Shutter Speed.
Thank you this was really good quick insight video.
I gotta hero 8 last year and still trying to figure this thing out. Thanks for the video.
Pretty useful info. I'm shooting a timelapse tonight to get those night clouds through the horizon. With the right settings GoPro produce real good results.
Well explained. Thank you!
You're the man. I was so confused until I found you. Thanks buddy. BTW this is my first gopro.
Hey thank you so much for this video! Super useful information, especially for us when recording our adventures! We will be driving to the south of Spain from the UK soon and we will timewarp parts of that!!🎉

Thanks for sharing this video! This definitely helps me understand
Excellent explanation and video!

Thank you and thanks for watching
Thanks for the explanation.
Wow once again learned something. Going from time warp to standard setting. Great vid sir!
Great to hear!
Thank you for explaining!
Very good info. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips!
Great video. Well explained, and a pleasant voice
I did a timewarp video of us riding our jet skis from the Weat Coast of Florida to the East Coast. It turned out pretty cool 🇺🇸👍🔥
Appreciate your help!
Appreciate this, very slick, thanks.
Very useful, thank you!
Thanks for this bro!
Thanks for the video, very informative, subscribed.
Very useful tutorial thanks
Awesome, it's very handy, thanks a lot for video
Great compare/contrast! 👍
Another reason for Time-Lapse Photo over Video mode is when attempting to capture lightning. I have collected thousands of individual pics and can quickly glean through them by the flashes, reducing the pics to maybe 1 or 2 dozen in a few minutes.
Another great tutorial!!!
Thank you. Very useful 👍
Very helpful video buddy,,I’ve just got my hero 9 black yesterday and haven’t a clue how to use it,,thanks buddy 👍👍👍👍👍
Very informative thank you
It was very informative !! ✨
We use them. Excellent.
My Hero 8 delivery is coming today from Amazon... can’t wait to unbox. 🔥
why not 9?
Thanks for this! Considering making a Timewarp video at some point!
This was too confusing as a first time gopro user/beginner
Really useful - thank you!
Great video. Thank you!
Another great and informative clip. Thank you so much!
Thank you
Thanks Man! That was super helpful! You are a great instructor.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the video. TimeWarp is cropped but so much smoother.
just ordered the Hero9 Bundle - Im guessing I can set this to record like every 30mins for 5-10mins on a long trek automatically right?
Awesome and superb video. 👍🏽
Thank you for sharing 😇
Thanks will use time warp this weekend
Loved this video
Great video, very informative! Can you tell me if the Time Warp option compresses the size of the video or does it increase the overall size of your videos? TIA
Thank you for the video.
We just got over a crazy ice storm and I’m excited to use my new GoPro to walk through our property. Thanks for the info - now I just need a new computer or iPad Pro to process.
Thanks this was helpful!!
Nice, Great And Useful..Thanks Dear
Very helpful video. Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you glad you enjoyed it
Very informative video 👍 cheers!
Your videos are super, they're easy to understand and I like that you give video example of the settings you've explained... New sub earned...
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
@@AirPhotography glad to be here, although I do regret buying a GoPro...
So, I've tried both Time Warp and Time Lapse while driving using my GoPro 9, and ultimately I end up using Time Lapse for two main reasons. (1) The field of view in Time Lapse is wider. It allows me to capture more while driving, and if I need it to be more stabilized, I can use a warp stabilizer in post. I have a really stiff suspension no my car and it still has yet to be an issue. (2) This is really the main reason...the Time Warp has a tendency to shift it's FOV and "lean" left or right to follow the curve on a road. While it's not a big deal to some, it REALLY looks strange to me when coming to a stop after an off-ramp and watch the video slide left or right until it's recentered. The car isn't moving, but the video's frame is. Once seen, it cannot be unseen.
Great vids, great channel! Keep up the great content!
So helpful..thank u so much..
Thanks for breaking it down now, I understand. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial, you are a good teacher hehe
Please make more tutorials
Vert helpful thank you!
Thank you!
Tha k you for the very informative video.
Wow , this is fantastic . I haven’t dug too deeply into the capabilities of my Hero 9 yet . It has way more features than I’ll ever utilize , but I was curious about these 2 settings .
EDIT : will these options be useable with max lens mod installed ?
So, i think for driving, walking, biking, the best option its time warp... its more stable... but what do you say about sunset, sunrise or clouds?? When you dont need to move the camera, which option its better? Timelapse or timewarp?
good to know about this comparison dear
Super helpful!
Gr8 tutorial! What is the setting for looping as for a dash camera?.how do you set up speed and time ?
Is there a way to look at a file that has been shot and determine what the camera settings were? Thanks.
useful information..good job
Great video!
Superb Tutorial buddy. Thank you.
Thank you very much
thank you... amazing
Thank you too!
I'm in Utah driving through the national parks. I'm going to try time warp option today.
