  • New for 2019 is the Nelson-Rigg Commuter Lite Motorcycle Tail Bag! This offers new features, updating the existing line from Nelson-Rigg with some welcome changes. It's the perfect size for smaller bikes, where you don't want or need the full size capacity or footprint.

    Thanks for another great review. I bought the ST after you recommended it and its been great. I had always used a backpack and netting on my Bandit 600 and that worked ok but when I got my FZ-09 last spring the backpack and netting just was not going to work anymore. The ST will fit all the stuff that I take to work and while Im at work it protects my helmet.

      Interesting, kinda hard to tell the difference between the Commuter Lite bag and the Commuter Sport bag. It seems Bryan has the Sport version and not the Lite version.
      I have the second version of the Commuter Sport tail bag (Nelson Rigg CL-1060-S) and had the first version (Nelson Rigg CL-1060) before that. I personally prefer the old method of strapping over this new method. Like Bryan, I never have a need to remove the tail bag from my motorcycle so having the ability to easily unbuckle it is not a feature I need. In addition, removing the CL-1060-S version from the seat wasn't that big of a deal. Most importantly for me though, the CL-1060-S version made it hard for anyone to unbuckle it and take off with it. Also the improvements made to this version seem minor compared to the improvements made in the second version over the first version. The second version fixed two major issues -- how the expansion was done and giving the ability to put a (small) lock on it. While Bryan is correct that anyone can cut into the bag or cut the straps to easily steal the bag, I've had a bicycle stolen that had a U-lock on it, so security is always about being a deterrent and not a guarantee.
      Anyway, I would only recommend the Sport version of this bag. The Touring version is much too big (as Bryan demonstrates) nor has features a touring version should have (like external pockets and more organization features). The Lite version is only a little bit smaller than the Sport version. I'm baffled why they introduced this version, especially with the expansion feature.

    I got the 'sport' size in the new range and love it. A tip for those worried about the security of the four quick release clips. Once clipped up, I wrapped each of mine with a few rounds of black 'self amalgamating' or 'weld' tape. It's no more secure in reality... but it disguises the really obvious snap on/off clips to a passer by 'quick knock off' merchant. Obviously this would only suit if you intend leaving the bag semi - permanently fixed. Great gear love it! Cheers for the review.

    I laughed at the comments about padlocks and knives when it's easy as squeezing 4 clips to undo the entire bag. Lol
    Otherwise, these are great bags. Know a few people with them and they've held up great. Will be getting one for myself soon, but thinking of the Touring size for camping purposes

    • @joemann7971
      @joemann7971 Před 3 lety +4

      its also laughable since you can easily take it with you. They can't steal anything if it's not left behind.
      You'd have to be extremely lazy to not want to carry it with you. I think it takes me longer to take off helmet and gloves than to unbuckle this thing.

      @mikeca98 Před 5 lety +1

      I nixed the ST bag on my CB1100. It was just too big and took away from the look of the bike. I went with a black bungee net for now. This new one is still too tall for my CB1100 IMO. I may get this bag for my FJR if my old ST version bag doesn't fit well on the pillion or rack. All one should be carrying on the CB1100 is their registration and insurance 😂.

  • @snakepliskin1185

    I use the larger Commuter Touring Tail Bag on my FJR since my side bags are rarely used. The bag carries the bike cover, then holds the helmet when parked. It's 2023, use an alarm and keep it covered!

Do you think it would be possible to mount one of those Nelson Rigg bags,Stuffed with foam, and use it as the drivers back rest? Or have you found a back rest in any other fashion for your FJR?

    Love my CL-1060-R, I know the point of this bag is for on/off but I would really love strap connector options to be under the seat. I worry when I nip into a shop and leave the bag on the bike, no point padlocking the zip when someone would rather just unclip the whole bag and be gone. Looks great on the bike.

    Thank for the review! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I live about 5 miles from Angeles Crest (west coast equivalent to Tail of the Dragon), and I can't stand having to wear a backpack just to carry my wallet and a couple of 20oz water and/or Mtn.Dew bottles. Especially since my Dainese suit has a race hump with heat extractor on it and the backpack block the extraction ports so it gets hot in summer. Just by the look of it, should be the same size as my Z1000's pillion seat.
