    Considering the culture, Mirabel being the next Abuela is a very huge honor. Most Latino/Hispanic cultures view grandmothers in very high honor, so to be chosen as the next family matriarch is a sign of validation of Mirabel’s familial skill/knowledge. She was the one to unite the family, after nearly a decade, and even brought new viewpoints to the villagers of the encanto. In the end, Mirabel reaps the most benefit by being giftless.

    Being from the Hispanic community, Louisa’s song has hit a lot of us older sisters in the face. It’s literally explaining the pressure that’s put on the older sister, it’s literally engraved in it culture for us to be the strong one. The one that holds the family together, especially into the next generation. This whole movie really hits home with the first born generation of immigrants in a new land and the trauma the older ones have that they never want to talk about. • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus Před 11 měsíci +22

      Yeah it seems funny to me when people (like at 29:21) complain that the power came back after they had settled their dispute. Because to me it is obvious that Mirabel restores the gifts with her own magic.
      Abuelita Alma actually tells two different versions of hwo they got their miracle: in the beginning Pedro just vanishes into thin air along the riders leaving it open if they took fim or he lead the on a false trail or something. But during Dos Oruguitas, we see that Pedro is killed and that is when Alma cries out in anguish and the candle erupts in magic.
      Dos Oruguitas starts off with Alma and Pedro being the caterpillars that tried to build their future and held on too tight to each other but in the end it should be clear, that it's about Alma holding on too tight and that Mirabel is the other caterpillar and that both are capable of this magical transformation. Alma once transformed from a wife and a mother into a matriarch and town leader and she has to settle down as a grandmother (and mother) to allow Mirabel to transform herself.
      And just like Alma once enchanted the candle in an emotional moment, Mirabel enchants the doorknob. But this time instead of anguish and giref Mirabel makes use of the affirmation and empowerment of her family... and this is the new foundation their family, their house, and their gifts are build upon.
      Oh and if you did not realize, Alma believes that the miracle gives her offspring the gifts the community needs. And apparently that the personality is shaped by the gift. Instead it seems that each gift reflects a personality trait or a wish of someone. Julieta is loving and caring and wants people to ffel fine, so her power makes people fine. Peppa is very moody and once could say her mood swings like the weather so her moods do affect the weather. Bruno probably first worried about the future and then received the visions and not the other way round like some people assume. For Isabella we (or rather Mirabel) figure(s) out that she didn't want to be perfect but just likes to see things grow. Luisa on the other hand likes to take on responsiblities and the burdens of others (but she obviously has her limits). About Dolores it is implied that she likes the gossip and the secrets; also a headcanon is that she already fell for Mariano before she had her gift and is kinda a little bit of a stalker. Camilo is probably least explained in the movie but an official tweet described him as a sort of theater kid who enjoys trying out different roles and characters. And this leads us back to Antonio whose gift was obvious to Mirabel before he got it.
      So the gifts are a mystery to Alma who does not understand that the gifts are not for the community but for her kids themselves. But Mirabel who observes all her family members for all her life intuively understands this and not only predicts one but also helps her siblings discover the true meaning of their gifts.

    I always saw it as Isabella's powers is not being perfect, but being able to "grow" nature, i.e. every plant or tree imaginable. However, because she's the eldest child it was EXPECTED of her to be beautiful, dainty and perfect so from the moment she got her powers she was expected to only grow pretty cultivated flowers and blossoms. It isn't until her confrontation with Mirabel that she finally unleashed her literal wild side and started growing wild plants and trees, finally tapping in to her full powers.

    • @Excanda
      @Excanda Před 2 lety +11

      I beg to differ. Mirabel and abuela both have gifts. The grandmother is the one creating the doors and as for Mirabel... Mirabel has a gift similar to her mother. Her mother can heal broken bodies with food and Mirabel can fix what is broken (mentally). She fixes her sisters, she fixes Bruno and in the end she fixes the house. That she has no door is because her grandmother didn't understand what her gift was and so could not make a door. In the end the grandmother finally realises what Mirabel can do and so the door is created.

And as soon as he realizes his expression doesn't match his wife's, Agustin puts on the same face because he wants to be supportive! I love him, despite how little screentime he got during this movie. He's an underrated Disney dad, and he's surprisingly realistic!
    I'm also on board with the theory (it's even semi-confirmed) that Agustin met Julieta because, like Mirabel said in the intro song, he's super clumsy and always had to go see Julieta to heal him from his frequent injuries. Actually after watching it three times with my nephew, I would conclude that her gift/“power” is basically being the core of the family & keeping the house together. She uses the house to help her more than the others and whenever she felt anxious throw out the movie that’s when the house would crack. She keeps everything together hence her custom doorknob is the front door, not just a bedroom door. Also I didn’t notice til recent that basically she affects everyone’s powers lol so if she feels anxious or nervous or mad that’ll harm/ crack the household and her family’s gifts will start fading.

    I would like to point out the difference between Abuela telling Mirabel about the miracle the first time and the time after Casita was destroyed. There's more detail, more about the pain that she went through and is still going through. Even the way she screams is different :(

    • @aliyahpulido953
      @aliyahpulido953 Před rokem +10

      Yes, the way she tells it and the way it's shown at the beginning of the movie is like the version you tell to a small child the hardest parts of their family history (This makes sense because Mirabel was literally 5 years old as Abuela was telling her this story.)
      The later version we get with much more context and after getting to know the whole movie's cast, we can better SEE and UNDERSTAND Abuela's pain. And while it doesn't excuse her actions that perpetuated generational trauma in the Madrigal family, it does help us understand that her actions are driven by that pain, fear, and survivor mentality after losing her home, her husband/the love of her life, and having to lead a community/small city after the exterior danger was finally past.
      It's even MORE painful when you learn about how accurate this was to Colombia's real history with wars, cultural clashes, violence and things like that.

    I’ve just recently found out that We Don’t Talk About Bruno nor Surface Pressure were submitted to the Oscar’s to the Best Original Song category. Instead they decided to send Dos Oruguitas that it is in the 15 songs short list. If nominated will be hard to win because it’ll go against No Time to Die (Billie Eilish and Finneas). I remember crying the most for Luisa and Isabella's songs. They related the most to me personally for multiple reasons but the most was simply due to the pressure of being the oldest sibling whilst also having this perfectionist complex on myself. I was raised from a young and impressionable age to look after and protect my brother, meaning the pressures of being there for him is always there. And I was also told to make everything I do perfect, no matter what, so a lot of things I typically do now like draw and what not isn't even fun anymore, it's just stressful because it'll never be perfect enough. I love the introduction of complex mental health issues and emotions that Disney is introducing to their stories now and young audiences. Honestly, its amazing, because mental health isn't something reserved for adults, it impacts us all at vast ages of our lives and for that reason its important for kids to see that others actually do feel what they feel.

    This is one of the movies I can relate to the most because I can relate to both Isabella, Luisa and Mirabel. I'm the first daughter and have a younger sister. All my life I was told that I have to always behave perfectly because I have to set an example for my sister, get excellent grades because I have to be an example and make my parents and family proud. I always got really good grades and spent my free time reading in a corner because I had been told at an earlier age that I was too noisy if I was playing with my sister, so I did my best to keep that perfect image and was told left and right that I was the perfect student, the perfect daughter, the perfect sister etc. I can relate to Isabella in that way. Then when I said at 20 years old that I wanted to become a dancer because I absolutely loved dancing and had been told by several professionals that I should give it a try, all my mom could say was that I should be ashamed, and I'd become the shame of the family. I gave up on my dream to keep up the perfect image for my family, got a bachelor degree and I am nearly done with my master now. My parents always said I could do whatever job I wanted as long as it made me happy (obviously a lie since they literally threatened to cut me off if I became a dancer) and now that I say being a highschool teacher sounds nice (decent pay and a lot of free time in my country) I am once again being told that it would be a shame because I have "potential". I realized that always trying to be perfect hasn't brought me anything good i the end so again that makes me relate to Isabella a lot because I want to be me and not a perfect doll my parents can show off around. They also put a lot of pressure on my sister to keep up with the "standard" I had created and it made her suffer too because she was always compared to me and seen as "less than". I also always had to be the strong one, was told not to cry, had to be my mom's therapist and look strong for my sister, and was responsible for her and younger cousins all the time, which made me relate to Luisa because it was always stressful. Finally, I relate to Mirabel (and Bruno a bit) because even though I'm trying so hard to fit in my family, I'm still treated like the black sheep and feel put aside. I feel like no matter how hard I try, I'll never be good enough. I cried left and right while watching this the first time and still tear up when I listen to the songs. Both my parents have refused to watch it because they know from hearsay that they behave just like Abuela.

    Love your reaction! Things I haven’t seen anyone talk about so far are that the clothes of each Madrigal family member has symbols matching their power and Abuela and Mirabel both have butterflies proving she is bound to become the new person to keep the magic alive. Also, if you look behind Dolores singing during We Don’t Talk About Bruno you see Bruno walking and then jamming out in the background. Lastly, at the end of that song when everyone is singing around Mirabel there is a moment where everyone says, “He’s here,” which I originally took to mean the boyfriend but upon watching it again, I believe means everyone is saying Bruno is there and they all kind of know it. After all, Dolores here’s everything and also, can’t keep secrets. Makes it extra sad they knew but couldn’t look past their fears. Anyway, thanks for the great reaction!! ❤️

    i love this movie bc it really points out the typical stereotypes in a family, like toxic roles that we all assign ourselves or are assigned to us. There's also some things that only hispanic ppl would get, like the sense of community, who everyone is so noisy and also how no one talks about their feelings, we dont say i'm sorry and hug, we just wake up the next day like nothing happened (kinda toxic too if u ask me but it do be like that). I love rewatching this and also watching other youtubers, specially psychologist, watch and analyse this movie. I'm glad u enjoyed it!

    So did anyone notice the donkeys playing as the band on the Titanic?
    New to this channel, you two made me laugh more than the actual movie.

    My fav is Louisa's song. Cause I feel everyone has felt pressure somehow and felt they couldn't fall apart for some reason. Also thanks for the explanation Benji, didn't know she was the next head of the house
