I wouldn't be so mad about Taka's death if he got an honorable one. You find his dead body and almost no one expresses concern. He was litterally the one trying to keep everyone together in the beggining and they give him such a weak, out of character death

Yeah, I was annoyed because everyone was really sad about Hifumi but then they didn't seem to care about Taka. It also seemed like his death was rushed. I mean, he didn't finish his arc at all and his death was just... boring. Like, he could have died in a more fitting way then getting bashed on the head and then beign forgotten

I feel like it would’ve been fitting if he died because he refused to vote in the second trail. The second trial involved a serial killer and a weirdo who defiled a body for funnies, and imagine your best friend turning out to have been the murderer. It would fitting for the ultimate moral compass to refuse to participate in a corrupt system as a way to fight back against the real villain and to die as a result. It would be another emotionally gut wrenching death in a very emotional case. Then again, I suppose it wouldn’t really add any new information for the player since uh…the same thing kinda happened with Mukuro, and I’m sure there’s a more satisfying way to wrap up his character arc. However, if the writers really wanted to get rid of him so quickly, might as well have him die in case two.

Oops. You ever just love a character so much you accidentally write a freaking novel about their death? This is super long and I’m sorry but golly I wanted to talk about my fav DR character.
I think Taka’s death is the only one in the series that legit wrecked me. It is honestly perfect in how utterly horrible it is in every way. It feels like his whole ark is designed to screw with him and my god it works so terribly well.
Taka tries so hard throughout the game. Literally NOTHING he does is done halfheartedly; he’s always passionate, he’s always determined, he’s always bold and unforgettable. Taka always pushed everyone to be better and, even if his methods weren’t always tactful, his intent was always pure. Taka probably tries the hardest out of anyone to keep everything in order.
His FTE’s show that, because of his intensity, he’s never been able to make friends. So, when he DOES finally make a friend, he falls into that relationship with the same passion he does with everything else. It’s clear that he deeply respects Mondo, likely because Mondo works hard and has morals despite his role as a gang leader
. They're two of the hardest working characters I think, as neither of their skills are natural talent. Characters like Leon don't struggle to be great at what they do, but it's clear that both Taka and Mondo work themselves to the bone to be Ultimates
Taka’s ark is designed to utterly destroy his optimism and hope. He’s given his first friend, only to watch him be brutally murdered. Not only that, but Taka has to realize that his only friend was a killer, someone who brutally murdered an innocent who came to him for help.
For someone with such a black and white view on morality, to see a man who you think is so great do something so evil is mind shattering. It’s clear that Taka can’t face that reality, and so he utterly blames himself. I think Taka likely felt like he’d failed Mondo, that he was somehow responsible for his death. Just like Mondo with Diya, Taka carried the guilt of his brother’s death.
To see such a bold character as Taka become so utterly muted and silent is horrific. Just like Junko wanted, Taka’s hope and idealism is utterly shattered. He no longer believes in his morals because his black and white view on morality has been challenged and defeated by Mondo’s gray morality. He no longer believes in the concept that effort triumphs all because he tried his best to save Mondo and failed. He no longer believes in his own integrity because he feels responsible for Mondo’s death.
When I played the game, I was legit furious with the cast regarding how they treated Taka post chapter 2. It was so clear that he was DESPERATELY in need of help. He was utterly catonic and clearly hadn’t eaten since the trial. Despite that though, only Hiro and Makoto make even the barest efforts to help Taka. Even then, they honestly don’t do much for him.
For the first time, Taka was in need of the utter passion he gave to everyone else. He needed someone who was determined to bring out the good in him, even if he himself wasn’t invested. In that moment, Taka needed his own Taka, someone to force him to take care of himself and be better. But in reality, Taka is alone. Nobody is as bold and brazen as Taka is. The only one who could match that energy was Mondo and, with Mondo gone, nobody has the passion to help him.
To just add insult to injury, he was even killed in a mocking way. He was murdered with a ‘justice’ hammer because he was accused of a horrid crime. For the Moral Compass, there is no worse death than to die accused of rape and then bludgeoned with a tainted symbol of justice.
I feel like Taka’s death reflects how totally he fades. I’m biased because he’s my fav, but I think Taka’s the least mourned over victim. Sayaka is mourned by Makoto, Chihiro is mourned by Mondo, Sakura is mourned by Hina. Hell, Hina also sheds a few tears for Hifumi last minute. In comparison, Taka is somewhat ignored. Even in the trial, it’s Hifumi, not Taka, who gets the focus.
As horrible as it is, it’s fittingly despair inducing for such a loud and bold character to be ultimately ignored and forgotten the second he goes quiet. The only part I dislike is the whole Kiyondo thing, but I think it also has value. It’s like a twisted, self destructed version of what Taka once was, like he attempted to pull himself together with false hope and created an abomination of personality.
All that being said...MAN I still wish that Hiro and Taka had swapped places! Taka was such a great character and I would have LOVED to see him raise above his loss and reclaim hope. Imagine how COOL trial 3 would be if Taka was accused instead. It would make sense to frame him; he'd clearly gone insane after the Mondo incident. He was always obsessed with morals so him dressing as Robo Justice would be somewhat in character. With his sudden personality shift, would it be too far of a stretch to say Taka did kill Hiro and Hifumi? Even those two victims makes sense, as they could both be seen as degenerates; Hiro makes a living off of scams and psychic ability while Hifumi’s a total creep. I’m not saying they’re bad people, but I could see Celeste claiming Taka thinks they’re bad people.
Further, would Taka be able to deny the argument? Would he remember his time as Kiyondo and, if he did, would he trust his memory. It would definitely be interesting to have to convince Taka himself that he isn’t the culprit.
Alas, that's all too hopeful for that part of the game.
Instead, Taka is utterly crushed both metaphorically and literally. It reminded me of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka; both characters worked hard for those they felt responsible for, but when they needed help, they were ignored and eventually destroyed and discarded

    • @DerpyHiro
      @DerpyHiro  Před 3 lety +120

You're not being biased when you say he is the least mourned victim. He really is. Honestly sometimes I see Taka's death as Junko's biggest win in the first killing game. Everyone's death is sad but Taka's death has to be the most despair inducing for the player. The man who worked so hard for everything died in complete despair. Honestly if you asked me why no one was trying to help Taka, I wouldn't be able to give you an answer. I really don't know why people weren't helping him. Yea maybe no one is close friends with him but no one was close friends with Hifumi or Chihiro either and people were devastated with their deaths so it is strange.
I also understand why you want Taka to live instead of Yasuhiro. Yasuhiro doesn't really need to be there. He's just there for comedy and foreshadowing. Even though Taka's death wasn't impactful for the other characters, I do think it's very impactful for the player and he's one of my favorites for sure

It also made me mad when Celeste told Hifumi that he assaulted her. I don’t think she specified what kind of assault, but just the fact that Hifumi would EVER believe that Taka would hurt somebody makes my blood boil. Sure, you could argue that Taka had gone Super Saiyan and ‘merged’ with Mondo, but even then, Mondo has said that he would never hit a woman. It is so frustrating that Hifumi would ever believe Taka would do something so horrible, but I totally understand why. He has a crush on Celeste or something and he was mad that Alter Ego was stolen, so it’s in his character for Hifumi to believe such a dumb lie. That’s the reason why I like Hifumi and Celeste as characters but definitely not as well (if that makes sense)

It’s clear during the chapter 5 investigation and especially chapter 6 investigation that Hina and Byakuya at the very least no longer hate each other. If chapter 4 didn’t end the way it did with everyone agreeing to go against the mastermind then I would agree Byakuya would probably be the victim. That’s just my take though

I wanted to comment because why not in my opinion for the first game and the argument of Taka:
While I would’ve loved for my favourite character in the entire Danganronpa franchise to survive, I am going to be completely honest, he’d be miserable, starving and quite a depressing story to see go down. I can see 3 scenarios for his character:
    1. He survives and gets proper development, making him viable for a survivor. However, down the line, his over expressions get annoying and his voice gets tangent. And he could also become hated. Here’s how I see this working without him being annoying:
He loses Mondo, sad times boys, lost his best friend and (if rumours recently are true) lover. He is depressed and miserable but gets some hope from Alter Ego’s Mondo. Celestia tricks Hifumi to kill Yasuhiro. This is the problem, how would Celestia be able to convince Hifumi? Sure Hifumi can be naive but I doubt he’s so naive to kill someone who’s done nothing wrong. But we’ll get onto this later. They put all the evidence on Ishimaru since Ishi and Hifumi had that argument over who keeps Alter Ego longer (I guess you can tell who I wanted to :p) and Ishimaru’s breakdown during the trial and losing more hope could be interesting. Talking about how he’ll be happy to see Mondo again. But then Celestia slips on her tongue and gets herself executed. Ishimaru would see from this that the people around him are his friends, and that he can trust people. Possibly becoming someone like Kyoko but less intelligent. And his weakness is being extremely emotional and hurting Sakura in some way by blaming her for Mondo’s death (again another plot hole I can not make my mind up with) and runs away. Causing conflict with everyone. He redeems himself by apologising to Aoi. And after this trial, is Makoto’s trial where he gets ‘executed’. Taka lost another friend. And he feels his hope begin to tank. And when Kyoko brings back Makoto, Ishimaru could be so overwhelmed with emotion again and hug Makoto. Having a nice bro moment. And mastermind yada yada. Get this gist.
While yes, this development is excellent for Ishimaru. He learns that everyone wants to be his friend and that he can move on from Mondo enough to not be depressed. But there’s some issues. Like why would Hifumi kill Yasuhiro? What would his conflict be with Sakura and Aoi?
While I would’ve loved Ishimaru to have survived. I can’t see this being a great possibility. Then there’s the flip side where he’s all miserable and doesn’t help. Again, making him possibly annoying without good writing. After all, he wasn’t eating after Mondo’s execution and you can tell by his sprites.
    2. Taka commits suicide in Sakura’s place.
This sounds brilliant at first, it makes sense and not only that, that was the original idea for Ishi. However... there’s some dilemmas.
Ishimaru is established to have a hard time making friends. And Mondo was his first and now he’s broken after losing him. While yes, suicide makes sense for a man who isn’t eating and lost his only friend, this doesn’t seem very good plot wise.
While yes it would’ve made Sakura a survivor (which I would’ve loved to see over Yasuhiro-), Sakura dying was a very important part of the story and conflict thanks to Aoi. Ishimaru didn’t have a strong connection with anyone but Aoi. And if his friendship with Alter Ego began, it wouldn’t be good enough like Aoi’s since Alter Ego is just a laptop really. Ishimaru’s death would have little impact on anyone besides Makoto. But I feel like Makoto bottles up so it wouldn’t give much of an effect.
There’s also the plot holes of Hifumi killing Yasuhiro again. Which I can’t find a reason.
And sadly 3: Ishimaru gets his character development cut short by Hifumi and Celestia’s hammer.
It’s sadly perfect in a way. People always see the good for Taka’s development and don’t realise the other two problems with the other two scenarios. Taka’s death with packed with despair for the player since we cared for him and seeing just after her lost Mondo, he died is a perfect way to make the player feel how this killing game truly affects you. I still do see flaws in this but they aren’t nearly as big as the other 2.
I am saddened his character development got cut short and out of everyone you could argue to be a survivor, Ishimaru is perfect, the perfect candidate compared to YaSuHiRo however these plot holes can’t be written out. Plus, they would’ve probably worsened his character which is a saddening thought. Which is why Ishimaru had to die in chapter 3 and couldn’t be a survivor.
    Yes. This hurt to write.

or maybe, celeste would try to get hifumi to kill taka but this time taka wouldn’t die, and because hifumi didn’t kill him, celeste killed him out of anger. then, taka could go on to live. as for hiro? tbh, i wouldn’t have had such a problem with him living if taka had lived. so maybe hiro straight up wouldn’t die either? or maybe they could make it weird where he kills sakura, but that’s pretty out of character. i’d just rly like taka to live lmao.

Later on, Hifumi finds Yasuhiro and challenges him to a duel where if one loses the other has to kill the one that lost (in a similar fashion to DR2s 4th chapter) and hifumi wins and you know where this is going

honestly, I would've loved for taka to bond with Makoto more during the game in the same way that Chiaki bonded with Hajime. There could've been optional events where Makoto uses his Ultimate Hope talent (that he doesn't know he has at the time) to inspire Ishimaru in a more healthy, friendly way, helping Ishimaru slowly recover from Mondo's death in a more realistic manner. Makoto and Yasuhiro could play pivotal roles in supporting his recovery, so instead of going super Saiyan and shit and becoming more annoying, he mellows out and although he remains kinda quiet and more reserved, slowly gets his spunk back and instead of being a hard-headed, obnoxious (probably more hated by fans) character, is more of a friendly, rule-abiding, helpful force during class trials- again, similar to Chiaki but obviously still retaining his hard-working, wholesome/innocent, selfless, passionate personality, slowly getting back his loud self but with newfound wisdom and gratitude.
I think it would make for a good plot. And honestly, I would've loved for Ishimaru to survive but as a more developed character. I think he was robbed. With Celeste's whole trial, I think she wouldn't have gone so out of character at the end. I think she would've mantained a facade even at the very end, aside from dropping her accent. But I think it would've made for a more twisting and turning trial for her to not have a freak out and make it obvious that she was the killer behind it all. So even in the end, everybody's unsure they've made the right choice until Monokuma's judgement.
I think she could've been manipulating Hifumi from the beginning in something of an abusive(?) relationship. Making him feel like he's nothing without her and then telling him she wants to escape with him. Maybe even using his sister against him, because she's the only one he showed his first motive to. Maybe as the ultimate gambler, from the beginning she manages to swindle most of the characters out of their motive videos, showed them all the Hifumi and was like:
"look at how useless these people are that they care about. Toko cares for nothing but a stink bug, Byakuya hardly even batted an eyelash at his motive video" ect ect, "are all these people who the others don't even care about worth the life of your beloved sister? She's waiting at home for you, y'know? Probably really scared and terrified."
I think her trial could've been so much more. a battle of wits between Kyoko, Makoto and Celeste. Pointing out evidence that she deflects back at them and twisting their words. maybe her facade only falls momentarily. I think that it would've been so much cooler if her only slip up wasn't something stupid like Hifumi saying her name when he wasn't dead yet, but rather a miscalculation. That would probably hurt her so much more to know that she failed based on HER OWN SKILLS and not on the idiocy of her partner.
In this situation, I think that she may have manipulated Hifumi, but she wouldn't have killed Taka and I think that while she may have used Alter Ego as part of the motive for Hifumi, I think that maybe Hifumi is more selfless, charismatic and funny in this version and less of a weirdo. While he'd still make references and stuff, he may be more respectful and probably more embarrassed about the work he shares- more modest and stuff. Which would make him more of a perfect bully victim for both Toko and Celeste. There could have been more events where it's shown that there's a bully issue between Hifumi and Celeste and between Toko and Hifumi. It would've made Toko play a bigger role in the killings that occurred, because this feeling of isolation where he can only rely on Celeste and Alter Ego would present more of a motive for him to kill someone and try to escape with Celeste. Maybe Toko would actually feel guilty and get some character development of her own, realising she was partially the reason that Hifumi felt alone and like he could only turn to Celeste.
I feel it could be the first instance of Toko growing a back bone and wanting to improve herself so that something like this never happens again, which would lead into the intense development she faces in Ultra Despair Girls, like the planting of that seed.
Maybe Celeste gets Hifumi to try to kill Kyoko because she knows that Kyoko is the only person who could really solve the crime and she doesn't want to leave any chance behind. Plus she decides that even if it fails because of Kyoko's implied combat skills (she states that she's leaving her door open and that anybody planning to take advantage of that should watch out because she's not going down without a fight), she'll be finding out a little bit more about her opponent as it is, anyways and save killing for another time. Essentially, she makes a gamble.
And Hifumi fails in killing Kyoko (oops), only managing to knock her out or something. Celeste realises she's still alive but decides they can actually use this. Celeste takes Kyoko to the infirmary and tells Hifumi to target someone who she knows will be out at this time because she's been keeping an eye on everyone's schedules (after all, the night time rule was meant to control them, so she knows who usually abides by it and who doesn't). Yasuhiro, in this case, doesn't abide by it because he's just downright stupid and wants a midnight snack, but he's also a huge coward so he only goes out at a specific time when he thinks everyone's asleep. Except Celeste isn't asleep and has seen him do it multiple times. He's just never caught her.
Anyways Hifumi goes ahead and demolishes him while he's in the kitchen and actually kills him this time. They decide to put the blame on Aoi because she's also stupid, and from a story perspective, it would make Sakura a main opponent in the trial as well, trying to defend Aoi as well. Ishimaru plays more of a devils advocate role during the trial, trying to think of alternative theories. So they frame her and maybe Celeste manages to lock pick her room, drug her and dress her up in some dark robes (which would be the costume alternative to the stupid robo justice stuff that is just super unplausible). However, they had originally tried to pin the blame on Hagakure so the robes themselves are too big for her and would be really inefficient for killing people in.
So, back to Kyoko, Celeste takes Kyoko to the infirmary and (lesbo ship moment?) stays with her the while night, looking after her and what not, tending her head back to health and stuff and saying she just found her like that or something when Kyoko actually wakes up. And like that'd be Celeste's alibi for the night. I dunno the logistics, but I think that they could still do the whole run after the killer thing but more believable.
Still, I think Ishimaru could be a good asset to the final group if he underwent more realistic character growth and didn't go all super saiyan just because alter ego put on the face of his dead best friend.
Edit: also if Ishimaru's recovery was assisted by Hagakure himself, it would show a good contrast between Ishimaru going completely numb upon Mondo's death, to being sad but trying to move forward and advance towards freedom, carrying the deaths of his friends along side him as he tries to escape not only for his sake, but for their sake as well. Because Hagakure and Makoto both taught him about hope.
Also the happy relationship between Hagakure, Ishimaru and Makoto could've given some real character depth to Hagakure and made him a loveable, well missed character, showing the goodness and charity in his heart (even if he's a massive coward and a cheapskate).

So I think you could easily have Sonia die instead of hiyoko in chapter 3 because Sonia was the one who told hiyoko about the mirror in the music venue. The way I see it could have gone down is Sonia tells Hiyoko about the mirror in the music venue same as before but instead Hiyoko doesn’t go to grab the mirror because she’s was being paranoid that chapter from the despair disease. This could result in Sonia deciding to go to grab the mirror for Hiyoko instead and then the rest of Sonia’s death happens like how Hiyoko died. This would give Hiyoko guilt over Sonia’s death and inspire growth. The only problem I have with this is I don’t know how Sonia’s death would affect Kazuichi if it would affect him positively or negatively. As for why Sonia is the one I would get rid of for this I don’t think Sonia did anything to important for the story that someone else could have and she didn’t feel integral to the story when I think someone like Hiyoko had so much more room to grow.

A lot of the surviving casts would be pretty hard to change without some big re-writing, but the idea is interesting.
If I had to change one character's fate in this series, though, I'd have to say... People may hate me for this, but my pick would be Hiyoko. Her death in the second game really wasn't all that necessary (the only reason she died was because she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time), and it didn't add much to things on top of being a pretty big waste. Perhaps Mikan could have still spotted her at the scene and used that to attempt to frame her?
They could easily have used the third trial to have her contribute to things a bit and open the way for some development; out of everyone Hiyoko was the one who tore into Mikan the most, and with Mikan arranging the scene to frame her, of course most of the cast would be inclined to believe sweet, caring, timid Mikan over the unpleasant brat who's been slamming them all up to now. Nobody would be on Hiyoko's side at first, and this would devastate her. She'd been a massive prick or even an outright bully to all of them, and would now be getting ganged up on in turn now. Doesn't feel so good, does it?
Of course, Hajime being Hajime, he'd sense that something isn't adding up and work to point the finger away from Hiyoko - and of course everyone including Hiyoko herself would be confused as to why. But eventually he and Chiaki would work out the facts of the trial, Nagito would do his bit where he'd put Mikan on the spot, and Mikan would finally reveals her true colors with her returned memories as normal. This sudden 180 would probably be even more shocking than before, and Hiyoko would be utterly stunned - this lady had always been annoying to her, but to have this clumsy, timid, blubbery crybaby suddenly turn out to really be like THIS? In this moment, Hiyoko would find this TERRIFYING.
It's a perfect opportunity for who we'll call "True" Mikan to really sting back at Hiyoko and call her out on her crap, too; pointing out that until just a while ago, absolutely nobody had been on her side and that out of this whole despicable, disgusting bunch of bullies, she was the worst of them all bar none. And the worst part would be, well, that Mikan would be right about that! Hiyoko would of course try to come up with some sort of retort, but... for the first time, she wouldn't be able to. She'd just be totally broken for a little while.
But then, while Mikan would be doing her best to pick apart Hajime's various deductions from here, she'd still try to play it up like she wasn't the culprit and would sort of mock the others. They dared to try defending the little nuisance, and THIS was the best they could come up with? What would Mahiru think of this, she'd wonder... And that's where she'd push it too far and grab Hiyoko's attention again. What did she just say...? Mahiru had been the one person who had put up with Hiyoko's shenanigans and actually been very kind to her. She was the closest thing Hiyoko had had to a friend on this god-forsaken island, and this stone-cold psycho, this... BITCH had the gall to mock her?! She would NOT stand for it, and would decide to quit her useless moping around... for now... to bring this to an end, possibly even helping Hajime re-examine his evidence some more (of course in her weird obnoxious way) and effectively bringing a decisive end to the Trial herself.
The end of the trial would proceed as normal, but afterward Hiyoko would sort of vanish from the radar for a short while. This Mikan bitch had turned out to be a terrifying psychotic freak, but... The things the late Ultimate Nurse had said upon her little heel-turn would have gotten under her skin. She was right. And she'd almost paid a very hefty price... as had the rest... all because of her bits of fun. Even without that, everybody else had been dead-set against her and ganged up on her at the Trial's start. Had she really been that awful to them? Maybe she deserved it after all...
I could see her from there making some efforts to change her attitude, albeit slowly and somewhat awkwardly, and perhaps doing more to try and help in the investigations and trials ahead since she showed a pretty sharp eye for details in the ending stretch against Mikan. And while I don't know if she'd exactly be _friends_ with some of the others, per se, I could see her warming up a bit and being far less of a jerk to Hajime and Chiaki since they were the first to effectively step in and defend her when no one else would (although this would come with the unfortunate side effect of her likely becoming attached to Chiaki - and we already know what happens to her).

I agree with you on the parts regarding DR1 and DR2, but not on V3.
I think Ryoma's character development involves his death and there weren't many other ways to make use of his view on life without him dying (and he's a good contrast for Kirumi's character).
If Rantaro lived, the mysteries of the killing game would be solved very easily using his survival perk. His death is also similar to the Impostor in DR2, he dies at the beginning because the truth that he wasn't Byakuya would appear early on.
Angie wouldn't have a lot to work with since her personallity and beliefs don't allow much character growth. Her death is also important to Himiko's development and if she lived the cult she created would still exist and it would be weird for the group to be divided into Angie's followers and tthe others the entire game.
Miu's death is also very important because it leads to Kokichi's plan to make everyone think he's the mastermind, which is really impontant to the plot. She couldn't be switched witn another person because she was the only one that had an intention to kill someone and the only one that seemed plausible to have that intention.

Korekiyo could find out she's gonna confess and use the seance as a coverup for the complete ritual, robbing Tenko of redemption and Himiko a chance at reconciliation in exchange for Rantaro. It could all play out the same way, and none of the council members would be there to notice there was something off minus Keebo (because let's face it Himiko wouldn't). But instead of making everything clear, the new Rantaro just raises more questions. Unbeknownst to even himself, he's just another lie mule for the true mastermind.

I get what you mean by saying that Taka's death was supposed to be the despair for the player, and damn well it works, cause I'm gonna do my version of how he could survive
so I see many arguments saying that he should have died because that he is depressed after Mondo was killed, and I think that should be his character development. Taka should have learned how to move on, learning how being sad and shut-in wouldn't help anyone, and how his death would basically killing Mondo's legacy.
A thing that I think could also be a good arc is realizing how morality isn't black and white. Someone who you looked up too, can do some nasty things, and I feel like that would relate to his backstory, how he sees his grandfather as an antagonistic figure in his life, maybe realizing that his grandfather and family isn't as bad as he thought. This could also relate back to Mondo, and I do think this arc should have started ever since he became friends with Mondo. Mondo is the complete opposite of Taka, he breaks the law, he has a biker gang, and he is, again, a murderer.
Taka would have learned (in a subtle way) that maybe there are some gray areas in morality, and for that belief to be crushed down when Mondo was revealed as a killer. He could have thought that, when someone is bad, they stay at it, and to relearn it all again, in a more focused way. For someone with such a black and white view on morality, hell, being the ultimate moral compass, he is surrounded by many people who are in between or in the gray area. I feel like that would be such an interesting arc for him if he had survived.
This idea isn't that new, but plot-wise, basically having Taka and Hiro, switch. Taka being framed for killing Hiro and Hifumi isn't far off, consider he is already unstable with Kiyondo. After chapter 3 however, I think he would have sided with Byakuya. Again, this is where he would have relearned that gray morality. He would still have this "bad people would never change" and consider Sakura was revealed as the traitor, he would definitely side with Byakuya. After Sakura's death, however, he would have been surprised, and more so during the trial. Therefore, this is where he would have relearned that lesson. I think Taka could have also bonded with Aoi after the trial, with both having their best friends dead, in such a gray morality area. Taka would have comforted and apologized towards Aoi, and they could help each other move on.
and then mastermind reveals, and yatta yatta, things shouldn't be so different afterward. I'm not good at writing, nor does my ideas were never said before, I think I saw 3 comments similar to mine and it's pretty similar to what I wanna say, so yea, thanks for reading, I guess

You could of course argue that Taka had to die because of the whole “Alter Ego Fiasco” but I disagree. Maybe Celeste’s lie could have been something like: Yasuhiro had planned to help Taka kill Hifumi probably for some reason like “She discovered that Hiro secretly had a burning hatred for Hifumi.” Hifumi would kill Hiro but Celeste Betrayed him and killed him instead and left Taka alive because maybe she didn’t feel that it was necessary to kill him when she was technically already that true mastermind of two kills (although we all know that the tool argument is pretty convincing). Maybe Taka would’ve realized that he didn’t need to become a mix between him and Mondo because his “bro’s” (and let’s be real here, CRUSH) memory would always be a part of him.

I just really wish Taka survived and I feel like it would be a better idea for Celeste to frame him for Hifumi’s death due to the whole Kiyondo situation and seeing how he would be after watching alter ego get executed. The missed potential and such just makes me angry about his death instead of feeling despair about it. It felt like Celeste could have just killed Hifumi and the whole game would be close to the same thing. Idk maybe it’s my Taka bias talking but it still gets me upset to think about. I’m not sure how I feel about him surviving but at least let him live another chapter and adapt some things because I feel like an just one more part of a chapter or could’ve done wonders to his writing.
Or even develop more with him in chapter three instead of focusing on the alter ego, Hifumi, taka triangle subplot as much as they did.

  • @razorkinder
    @razorkinder Před 3 lety +3

can we get some love for yasuhiro like my god he gets so much hate. Yeah he wasn’t as important as he could have been but he’s just adorable in end of hopes peak. Just watching him be incompetent while Naegi, Aoi, and Kirigiri are trying not to die, while its annoying to some people, was hilarious to me. Toko was an absolutely required survivor since she’s the perfect teammate for Komaru. Byakuya is probably my second favorite character in this game, but im not being bjased when i say he played i giant role after the first game and his death would have fucked up everything. He helped to convince Hajime to stop the game, he saved Naegi from being killed because of Ryota’s stupidity, he saved Komaru. If he wasn’t there, everything would be different. And also makoto. He might be slightly boring in the game, but his actions after he escapes really makes him even more important. He gets told to fucking commit suicide just because someone is suspicious of him, lets that same someone attempt to kill him, then use what he’s figured out by that person’s actions alone what their forbidden action is, and puts him in a situation where he has no choice but to listen to him if he wants to leave all in one anime while being beat up every 3 minutes. His actions are amazing and his personality is even better. Just seeing him being so optimistic is adorable. This next thing I’m going to write about has major spoilers for end of hopes peak and danganropa 2, so turn away now.
Makoto in Danganronpa 2 is amazing. Seriously, i just love it. When you’re walking the halls of the abandoned school hajime sees Alter ego, and after Monokuma steps im, Naegi speaks to hajime directly from the outside which gave me fucking chills. When you get to the graduation ceremony and a fake makoto comes it was so creepy and i loved it. The way his dialogue is just slightly different, the way you figure out he’s fake by asking about the code is amazing. Speaking of the code, even better. I just like how he says the code was from a friend to help him when he was in need, and he sets it 11037 is just heartbreaking. When he comes in he tries to convince hajime to start the shutdown sequence but doesn’t force it onto him. He tells them all the full truth (despite byakuya’s protests) and lets them make their own decisions. Then, in end of hopes peak, he gets told someone from the first killing game will die because of him. When its revealed to be Kirigiri and they see her forbidden action was having Naegi alive in the fourth round, Naegi fully admits that he would have killed himself to save her. Him actually trying to kill himself after that actually scared me half to death. Honestly it was the first time in danganronpa i thought i would literally scream. I didn’t. But still. Him just getting smacked into the wall to stop him because someone FUCKING CUT OFF THEIR HAND JUST TO STOP THE KILLER was amazing. I fucking love future arc if yall couldn’t tell. He is being put on trial for treason at the start of the show and doesn’t back down at all. He is faced with death and just keeps going multiple times. And this is why Naegi is the best character from danganronpa 1. Despite all the shit that happens to him he just keeps going. He looks forward but doesn’t try to erase the past. I honestly look up to him. Also he can rock a suit which should count for something seriously what the fuck why don’t people ever talk about that-

In all honesty, I believe Taka should have survived instead of Yasuhiro. Like many other characters in these games, his development was cut short, which really upsets me because he was one of my favorites, but that's not the reason why I think he should have survived, because I believe there was a reason Celeste and Peko, two of my other favorite characters, died, but I see no reason to kill Taka. Yasuhiro, on the other hand, is a very bland character, who didnt get any particular development, even though my opinions wouldn't have resonated if, for example, he overcame his fears in a more developing way. Plus, they could have easily switched the idiocy they play off for Yasuhiro for Taka's rules and not getting jokes at times. May I also add it would be great if Taka had to accept Mondo's death over the whole ordeal in chapters two and three. Overall, I believe Yasuhiro didnt add much to the ending, but I respect your opinions and beliefs as much as mine.

I disagree with Celeste not bringing any conflict to the table. From chapter 1 she was talking a lot about "survival of the fittest" and "game of survival". With this, it makes her a realist where she could have brought a "realist vs idealist" fight between Makoto. She would be the one to bring Makoto down a peg by telling him that his optimism is way too unrealistic in deadly situations.
Not to mention, I would like to have Celeste receive some character development where he decides to drop the prim and proper act and perhaps even remove her fake hair tornado accessories after she opens up to the group.
Unfortunately, for Celeste to survive, Yasuhiro has to be the one to be the blackened instead. (I don't hate him, he's just a neutral character to me.) I find it very unlikely for Taka to kill someone so it has to be Yasuhiro to do the killing. I hated Celeste's motive for being the blackened in chapter 3 and found it to be ridiculous as hell why she would do that.
What would Yasuhiro's reasonings be for killing Taka and Hifumi? well... for that I would have to change the motive in chapter 3 from the 1 billion dollars to a precious gemstone, this entices Yasuhiro as he knows the gemstone has a legend where the gemstone has a god that can grant a wish. He kills 2 people as he thinks he is killing the lives of some to save the lives of many to get the stone to wish back the group even if they failed to guess who the culprit is.

I think Celeste should've replaced Byakuya. Just... him going out of his way to disturb Chihiro's corpse kinda ruined him for me. Him getting executed would mean Toko had a reason to kill in Chapter 3. Toko kinda overhears Celeste talking with Hifumi to perform a double murder, then frames her for it... only to die because she was revealed as the culprit. As to who should replace her... Hifumi. He and Alter Ego could have an interesting relationship, and could possibly help them survive beyond having the laptop they were in crushed.

What makes the surviving cast in DR1 work is that it both makes sense and defies expectations.
-Aoi is one of the more forgettable characters in the beginning, making you question where they could possibly take their character. She survives due to her having a good heart like Sakura.
-Byakuya is an asshole who you expect to get his comeuppance by being killed. He may have survived due to the way he makes certain cases more difficult (especially the second one).
-Hiro is a character who doesn't have a ton of depth and seems like he will eventually get killed (he even died in an early beta, I believe). He survives because he's both too scared to commit a murder and too scared to let himself get murdered.
-Toko/GJ is someone who you expect will commit murder (because she's a serial killer), so you don't expect her to live. She likely survives because everyone else is too intimidated by GJ to mess with her.

I feel like the survivors should’ve been: Makoto, Kyoko, Aoi, Toko, and Taka.
If number of survivors have to stay the same then I would toss in Mukuro.
    Reasons:
    1. Byakuya’s “Redemption” in chapter 4-5 felt rush and came out of left field to me. I would kill him off in chapter 5 as either a Victim or Blackened depending of Mukuro is alive or not. If Mukuro is alive, then I would make him the victim of Junko. If she’s dead then Byakuya should take the fall.
    2. Yasuhiro doesn’t really have a strong arc that makes me feel like he should’ve survived. He was basically comic relief in my opinion that’s it. I’d kill him off in chapter 3 as the victim. Just switch Taka’s and Yasuhiro’s roles in the plan.
    3. Taka could’ve gone through the different stages of grief in chapter 3 and 4 before coming to accept living on for Mondo.
4 (optional). I feel like the twist of “Junko” being Mukuro and the twist Junko being the mastermind would be just as strong if she was still alive. It also opens up unique story opportunities for the future stories that come after this game. Like, someone who helped end the world for the love of their abusive sister trying to save it and redeem herself.

I agree with all your points except mukuro. It would be interesting but mukuro would have all the spoilers and know how to get them out easily. She also could easily expose the mastermind as well. I would say Celeste instead of Byakuya. Celeste in a way is like byakuya except a lot more cooperative and a bit nicer to others. It would also be interesting having to tear down her mask And let the others in on her true self.
In chapter 3 it could be revealed that yasuhiro is a lot smarter and acts stupid as a facade it would make his charachter a lot more like able and interesting. He would have a lot more complexity. He could manipulate hifumi into killed byakuya. OR byakuya could have tried manipulating him to kill hifumi but yasuhiro backstabbed him last minute. This would make a way better storyline for chapter 3. Celestia or kiyotaka could have been framed. Showing celestia true side with her anger issues, and Kiyotaka would be in a really depressed state and struggle defending himself. So it’s showing his grief in mondos death.
Not to mention byakuyas death would have a large effect on toko devolving her cahafhter before another story. She could have a grudge against Kiyotaka or someone saying they should have died instead.
In the end the survivors would be

Byakuya is too relevant to UDG, so no matter what you think - he must be alive.
His development would be great if... He really was wrong. But he actually wasn't. Let me explain.
I love this guy. And I was pissed when the 4th chapter made him look like a fucking helpless spoiled fool when he is not anywhere NEAR like that. The thing is - he did not "ignore other's feelings" he actually paid attention to them. He thought that Sakura trusted her friend too much. No matter how you say "but their friendship" all of the cases before were actually betrayals. Sayaka, Mondo, and Celeste betrayed their friends/partners. So there is a chance of Aoi betraying her friend. I mean even Makoto suspected her because of how rushed she was.
Byakuya's big problem is the fact that Kodaka loves Kirigiri much more. Kirigiri must be smarter than Byakuya because of it. And because all of the cases are not super complicated, in order to make the audience think that Kirigiri is smarter is to make others stupid. And because the game really wanted to have a "take that, Byakuya! Kirigiri was right!" moment, they made Byakuya lose his concentration skills and pay no attention to the crucial info. It's OOC. Plane and simple. The anime did a better job, because in the anime Byakuya didn't know some things that are contradictory to his theory (game Byakuya knew it but did nothing because he got hit by a "kirigiri must be better" bomb).
But okay. Let's say he was wrong. He realized that some people do not work as others. That they are not logical. They can do really contradictory things. AND he realized that nobody here wants to hurt him. Those people are not trying to fool and kill him, they want him to be on his side. And he agrees. He is still shocked, but there is nothing left. Nobody who survived wants to claim his life and "win". They want to defeat the mastermind. And he wants so too.
Later he is the ONLY character who cares about Makoto. Really. It's nice to see him worrying about Naegi after he was betrayed and still forgave the person who abandoned him without a second thought. Everyone was like "yaaay Makoto's back!" And only Byakuya was like "be careful with this girl, she can do the same again... Not that I care... But still."
He didn't change unrealistically. He wasn't very friendly to everybody, because that's how he was raised. He was still Byakuya Togami. But a willing to coop Byakuya Togami.
redemption =\= falling to your knees and crying about how sorry you are. It worked for Fuyuhiko. But it would not work for Byakuya.
Byakuya's redemption was his ACTIONS. He cared about his classmates, he tried to be very careful and not let anyone die (except Toko, she annoyed and slowed everybody down. But he TRIED to be nicer with her and realized he shouldn't have because she started to act even worse), he tried to not let Makoto be fooled, he tried to make Kirigiri obey so she would not do something that would hurt somebody. *And that's not just my headcanons* , that's how he was. He was rude and forceful, but he had good intentions. That's why there was no rebellion from Aoi or Hiro. They did make jokes about him, but they never tried to stop or argue with him anymore. And, of course, his willingness to help and risk his life for the first friends he got. Pre-game Byakuya would NEVER do that. But because he was able to make friends - he was willing to do anything for them. Involving risking his life just to save their (*cough* mostly Makoto's *cough*) asses.
So no, Byakuya should've stayed alive and Mukuro should've still been dead.

I think another important point in the favor of Leon being killed and not Hagakure (never mind that the latter is legit my favorite character in the series) is, on top of the latter being much more surprising, that past all their similarities of fearfulness, Leon Kuwata is honestly the most normal person in the game.
Like, sure, Makoto is a kinda milquetoast guy whose point is being extremely average in all but his extreme, inhuman optimism and tenacity, but Leon is a disaffected teenager who isn't really sure what he wants to do with his life. He's kind of shallow, just wanting to impress girls, and resents what he feels life pushes him towards, yet at the same time grows to miss baseball after awhile spent unable to play. There's something very relatable about him to most young people, I think; if you aren't Leon, you know a lot of Leons, and they're generally fine dudes with their issues. A character like him also slots neatly into that sort of "bro" archetype, the sort of thing that Kazuichi and Kaito in the later games fill in their own unique ways, so he seems like a pretty easy pick for a relatively average person's perspective on the game. Though he's not without his eccentricities, he's also perfectly capable of hitting the straight man role too, generally clearly being a well-adjusted guy with his whole life ahead of him.
Then he's the first person in the game, first in the franchise, who kills somebody. This very normal guy was driven to such a horrible extreme by the pressures of the killing game so soon, and this very normal guy breaks down and is dragged screaming into an excruciating, torturous death. That sticks with you forever. There were only even executions in the same conversation as his during, like, v3, and I'd still say most of them are weaker.
If anybody but him was the first culprit, a role he was legitimately designed perfectly to fill, the entire tone of Danganronpa as a whole would be worse off, I think.

I like the surviving cast. Sayaka makes sense. Muruko death for its own thing. Leon was pretty much pointless for having around (I don't hate him though). Chihiro makes sense. Mondo makes sense. Taka makes sense. Hifumi makes sense, but we do see him simping for Celeste and with him having a rival with Taka for Alter Ego, that would later impact Celeste's mission and Hifumi death. Celeste makes sense, and she is the type of person who is likely to die cause of her greedy ambitious so yeah. Sakura makes sense. Very good death choices and survivors.

Okay, I honestly think that there should of been another case in this game, a normal pure murder case. Possibly after chapter 5 or just before it, involving hiro as the blackened with byakuya as the victim. After chapter 4-5 byakuyas story line is done, and hiro never really got one. He was scared so I’d he snapped under pressure or fear and killed byak it serves as a final push into despair for the rest of the cast at this point who are very close, gives Toko a much needed story for dr1, instead of needing a whole spinoff, and makes the surviving cast smaller which is nice as it feels like whenever the dr1 survivors pop up there’s too many of them to deal with, in dr2 only 3 of them appear in the final case and byakuya very easily could of been omitted, and in the anime byakuya and hiro were basically left in the dirt and not used very well. It feels like after dr1 both of them didn’t get much to justify their survival and it may of helped flesh out the cast more in the actual base game.

Really? What is going to happen for Ultra Despair Girls then? That means Toko would be gay for Komaru? (I ship Tokomaru).

It would've been SO easier for Celeste to frame Ishimaru than Yasuhiro. Ishimaru is already unstable she could've used the money motive Monokuma had as an advantage cause Taka needed it for his family's debt
