  • I have been asked to do a instructional video on swapping an LS into a Gbody. I know alot of people that personally hate videos like this but please be patient with it i worked really hard on it to help people and get the info out.
    Parts i used are:
    Car shop inc. 1 inch back plates found on Ebay
    GM muscle car pan bought from Jegs
    Advance Adapters flywheel kit 712500A found at Summit
    Holley intake 300-132 found at Summit
    Street Demon 750 carb from Jegs
    MSD 6010 from Jegs
    S10 LS swap headers found at Ebay.
    Stock truck accessories. Remember smaller pulley may be needed.
    Yes my apologies stock power steering lines will work with truck accessories.
    This list is by no means what you have to use. This is just what worked for me. What works for me may not work for everyone

    Thanks! I have a 85 Monte sport coupe in the garage that has been waiting on body mounts for the last couple years, and that car has a 5.3 longblock from an express van sitting inside a shopping cart next to it. This video made me a little more confident that i'll be able to do the swap instead of dropping a 350 in.
    I'm also almost finished swapping a square body suburban minus torque converter. One thing you could add to this is with the gas tank from a fuel injected G body with the 4.3, you can replace the electric fuel pump in that tank with the AC delco EP381 for cheap and not have to worry about an external one and it will put out enough pressure to feed the LS if you keep the stock fuel injection

      Thank you for the view. And thank you for the input.
      When I originally made this video about 2 years ago I had originally planned to do both a tutorial on carb and fuel injection. I even had alot of the editing done to do so.
      The reason I cut fuel injection out of the video is because along with this video being a "How to" I also wanted it to be a summary of my Malibu project.
      So then I had a whole video "How to" of my 88 Stepside planned out and half way edited. It was going to be the video where I went into full detail of LS Fuel injection. That video never got completed because I had HUGE viewer request to run the Fitech TBI unit on the 5.3. So that video got cut as well.
      Maybe I'll return to the subject one day. But back in 2013 to 2014 info was still limited. Where as today in 2017 all the information is a click away. But I still may return to the subject at some point. Right now I mainly just Vlog projects.

      Dime Fever Thank you.
      Assuming you're working on a Gbody also, many people have swapped the tank and sending unit for any 87 Gbody that had a pump from the factory. You can use the factory in tank pump for a carb with a bypass style regulator, or swap the pump out for example a Walbro 255 for fuel injection.

    Just saw this video. Really good. If you can tell me about fuel regulator pressure, it would help me finish my project.
    I am 90-95% finished with my 6.0 LS swap in a c4 corvette. Got all the adapters connected, engine mounted and trans connected with adapter ring. Got the 6014 mds box hooked up. Put a resister wire to alternater.
    Now I made a t post for the fuel line
    One for send, another for return and last to Mr. Gasket fuel regulator.
    That line feeds into a fuel psi gauge into the Holley quick fuel 750 carb with an Edlebrock manifold.
    (Don't mean to make this so long)
    Since it is a 6.0 I had to install a bigger charged battery and a 6 psi electric fuel pump for it.
    NOW FOR THE PROBLEM:
    It cranks strong and actually starts but too strong. The engine revs as if the throttle pedal is on the floor and the back wheels start to spin on park then shuts off cause it used up the fuel in carb resv. I have put the back wheels on jack stands and tried lowering the regulator to a 4 psi but still too much power then shut off.
    Needs to run between 6-7psi.
    Any advice, opinions, on this would help. Thanks.

    • @jacobdavis1979
      @jacobdavis1979  Před 6 lety

      Michael Cimino MSD 6010/12/14 is for ignition only. If you want to use it with fuel injection you'll need Efi that does fuel only. Which will work, but that's an expensive way of going about it. Plus you would have 2 ecus and 2 harnesses to deal with. I don't recommend it.
      Since you're 58x with an LY6 I recommend either an E38 ecu, MS3 Pro, Holley HP/Dominator or even a PO1 411 with a 58 to 24x conversion module.

    1) What bolts do I need to hook up the TH350 to the 5.3?
    2) I have DBW tb since it's from a 2003. What would I do for the TH350 to shift on it's own? Or would I have to manually shift it? I don't mind the manual shifts just curious about that.

      You can order a set of bolts for the 60/80e. They will work.

    Would you know the number to the smaller pulley for the power steering ? I modified my bracket & barely clears but at WOT it snaps my belt.
    Also, if I run a smaller diameter pulley with stock bracket , won’t I need a different harmonic balancer for it to not over rev?

    • @jacobdavis1979
      @jacobdavis1979  Před 6 lety

      Gregory Green If you're going fuel injected you don't need the MSD box at all.
      And if your engine is 24x you can run a 0411 pcm with a DBC throttle body.
      If you're running a DBW yes you will need the matching gas pedal.

    • @BigDaddyG68
      @BigDaddyG68 Před 6 lety

      Sorry for my stupidness but I'm new to the LS game, but when you say 24x are you referring to the reluctor wheel?
      And i'm assuming that the 58 would be DBW.

    • @jacobdavis1979
      @jacobdavis1979  Před 6 lety

      Gregory Green yes. The early LS engines had a 24x crank reluctor. Later models had a 58x reluctor.
      Usually 24x engines have a black crank sensor. 58x have a gray one.

      I believe alot of people say a 750 is too much due to the fact everyone is used to working on SBCs and SBFs. The volumetric efficiency of an LS is a tad bit different than the older engines.
      Typically the way to gauge CFM thats needed is by engine vacuum. Holley states their carbs work best at just tad under atmospheric pressure at WOT so fuel atomization is still at play.
      So if you're running lets say a 650 carb and you're running 5 psi of vacuum at WOT the carb is too small. This works vice versa also. If you're running a 750 carb and at half throttle you're at atmospheric pressure. Then the carb is too large.
      750 should be about correct. And if you find then engine is running to rich, just swap jets until you get you're desired AFR.
      Wooooh. That was a long winded comment sorry about that lol.

    • @jacobdavis1979
      @jacobdavis1979  Před 6 lety +1

      Justin Page The 1 inch set back plates move the LS engine into the exact position a 350 or other SBC would sit into the engine bay. So you can keep the transmission and cross member in the factory location. This also allows you to keep the factory length drive shaft.
      The spacer is strictly for using an older style transmission like the TH350, 400, 700, etc behind an LS since the crankshaft is .400 shorter than an SBC.

      John Jamaica The MSD 6014 is an ignition only box. Typically used for carb conversions.

No need to touch your cars harness. The wire that powers your distributor now will power the MSD. And the MSD comes with its own harness

I have grown up around Corporation and the typical early Generations carbureted blocks me and my dad have never done an LS swap because we were afraid of getting it running as far as the computers and getting the fuel injection system to work so any information to lead me in the right direction I would appreciate. Your video was very helpful

      Swap your intank pump to a Walbro 255. Get some good quality Fuel injection hose and Efi clamps not worm clamps. You need a Pcm with Vats removed so it can start.
      Check out a website called PSI Conversions. They have very simple to use Plug n Play wiring harness for the LS engine and you can purchase PCM with Vats removed from them also.
      The engines are very simple just be sure to do some research so things go well :)

      The cam I used in this build was called the Edelbrock 2215 I believe. It's been a few years so my numbers could be rusty. It sounds good, and has a great torque curve. Felt good with the 2800 stall converter I used.
      They also have a 2216 model that's alittle hotter than this one.
      It's a great cam for the price I paid. It was a black Friday deal I got for like $200.
