Milky Way Timelapse - How I shot it

- čas přidán 30. 03. 2023
- Today I'd like to run through the setup for a number of timelapse sequences I shot recently out on a farm property. It was a wonderful night with the added bonus of an Aurora Australia showing up unexpectedly.
Unfortunately the clouds also showed up with the aurora but it was still a wonderful display.
As an extra bonus I've included a number of other timelapses I've shot at this location in the past . .I hope you enjoy.

@@nightscapeimages.richard so bummed you got clouds just as the Aurora got going….love the channel
Great collection of time lapse sequences Richard. I particularly liked the one where you had galactic reflections in the dam/creek/water. Pity about the cloud cover in the aurora sequence! 😁👌👍
Thanks Geoff. Yes the cloud rolled in just at the wrong time. . however .. we still got something.
Man jealous! Fighting snow storms here with cloudy weather.

My answer: Yes, I did indeed enjoy them :) I love considering the truth - the world is turning - rather than the sky is moving. What a tiny rock we are on. Thanks for posting.

Loved these Richard, especially the ones with Aurora
Yes the aurora images are spectacular Laurel .. .and we have a lot more to look forward to this year.
Wow Richard,
especially the 2nd vid with the popping aurora behind the clouds was sooo stunning.
So much word in these timelapses and possibly terrabytes of hard drive space.
and make me jeaous once again 😛 southern milky way beats the bit we can see here by miles.
I guess one day i have to attend one of your courses 😉
Greetings from the northern hemisphere

Awesome compositions Richard, what a lovely piece of art this video is. Loved it, especially the milkyway reflection in the still waters of the dam, amazing.

Richard you never cease to amaze me, your every video is just amazing, I want to congratulate you because you are a true professional, I always follow you. a warm hug from Italy.
Your kind words are very much appreciated Raffaele
Great video. Beautiful Timelapse’s. I can’t wait for Milky Way Season when the temperatures get warmer to try to photograph the Milky Way and make Timelapse’s. I’ve wanted to go to a dark sky not to far where I live to photograph the Winter Milky Way but Its been cold, cloudy, and snowing for me.
Thanks for watching. I hope the weather clears for you soon.
The most brilliant and inspirational timelapse sequences Richard. Thank you. Excellent choice of moving soundtracks too.
Very kind of you Tony, thank you.
Great Timelapse! Enjoyed briefly seeing the aurora and Milky Way. I missed the Northern Lights the same night. We saw rain and clouds here in Massachusetts area in US.
Thanks for watching Richard. Yes the clouds were certainly a problem for us both.
Amazing timelapse sequences, Richard thank you
Thanks so much for watching Dennis
Looks like you ran out of luck with the clouds Richard, great montage so many, my favourite would be the hay bale lifter! 👏👏
Yes I liked that one as well Carl, thanks for watching as always.
Always looking forward to new content from down under. This really inspires me to spend some more time on timelapses. And honoustly, you are the lighting king. If I ever have the chance to visit Australia I really want to up those skills by following a workshop from you 😉.
You're very kind my friend. I'm loving your content as well.
Another wonderful and informative video, as always. Thanks Richard
Thanks for tuning in Eric
Fantastic Timelapses, Richard! Always inspired by your videos in the field. I look forward to trying a night scape Timelapse soon. I’d love to make the long trip down your way sometime in the next couple years, from up on Vancouver Island, Canada.
I really appreciate your support my friend.
Hi Richard, I did watch this when you posted but hae only just got aaround to commenting. As usual, spectacular shots. I must admit, the first one ( raking device ) was a little too light for my taste ). The one of the windmill at the lake was beautiful. I am starting to get to know Australia, I recognised most of these locations. That farm is a godsend! Have a great easter and keep up the good work.
Yes I agree about the hay rake, I had the light a little too close. Thanks as always for watching my friend.
Bloody awesome as mate cheers so much from Cairns where's there's too much rain lol ❤... Thanks so much for teaching us for free and I really love the big epic just one subject like the car one's ❤😊🥰
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate your comments.

Your timelapses are amazing Ken .. !! Thanks for watching.
Brilliant stuff love the wide angle time lapse. Very talented 👍 well done to you
I appreciate you watching Darrell.
Stunning reds @ 14:14 Richard! It's nice to have a few clouds rolling through, but just typical you got more than you bargained for on this occasion 😤.
Yes it is typical isn't it Paul. Never mind, I'm sure there will be plenty more auroras this year.
Very enjoyable tim3lapse combo. Thanks
You're welcome Phil, thanks for watching.

Really appreciated.
My friend admires him for his work. My Congratulations for the beautiful time lapses. all his videos are a documentary of night photography🤩🤩🤩👏👏👏

Fantastic Richard as always. You were like a orchestra conductor with all your setups tonight, and oh what great music you played! The montage was of the time lapses were fantastic, thanks again Richard your the best👍
Very kind of you to say Robert, thanks so much.
Another awesome and inspirational video Richard. Much like you, I never get tired of reshooting similar locations as its different each time out.
Thanks for checking it out Rob
Gorgeous, magical...
I'm really pleased you liked it my friend.
Oh my word, I have so much to learn, but now I know I want to! What a wonderful compilation at the end, they were all fantastic! Thanks so much, and great music to go with them. I also wonder what some of those stationary objects would have looked like with star trails instead? I think I need to start looking into trackers.... oh boy !
Thanks again Jessica. There are many ways to shoot these wonderful foreground subjects .. .literally the sky is the limit ...!!!
All I can compare this to is watching a great musician (Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, ….) and thinking, wouldn’t it be great to be able to perform at that level! Making a lot of folks very happy. Thanks for sharing.
You're very kind indeed Alan. I think it just comes down to hard work and commitment ..!!!
Amazing timelapse sequences, thank you so much Richard for inspiring us with your wonderful videos and clear skies!
Thanks for watching George
Great video, fantastic timelapses, you've given me an idea I might try this year. I often go back to old haunts to get mw, nothing wrong in that at all, hope your voice recovers
I'm starting to recover now Suzie. Thanks as always for watching.

Thanks for the informative, beautiful, and entertaining video Richard. Freeze frame at 12:28 to see the bat that flew within 2 feet of you to catch bugs in your headlamp light.

Wonderful ❤ love your work. Truly inspirational. I just got my Z6ll and can only hope to try and capture time lapses like these. I have only tried a couple of times and they are crude but first attempts usually are. I can only imagine how much effort you have put into your work. Thank you for inspiring me to try and improve.
You'll get there I'm sure Frank. The Z6ii is a wonderful timelapse camera.
I like the little additions to your film making. The results are fabulous. I want to get out this year to the Badlands of Alberta, I live about 90 minutes away. I bought my milky way lens(Tokina 11-16 2.8, real manual focus) last spring but didn't get out. - Cheers
Thanks for watching Joe. Those Tokina's are good lenses.
