Thankx. Very informative.
Thanks for looking Tim
Simply amazing and stunning video Richard. Loved the way how simply you teach us the complex subjects an easy way, loved that.
I'm glad you are seeing that my friend. It's always my intention to simplify all of these complex ideas.
Excellent
Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks Richard
Thanks for watching Wayne.
You should upgrade your LRT Timelapse license to pro. not only are you technically not supposed to use the regular license for commercial use, it's important to support small independent software companies, especially when they offer perpetual licenses and not making their product a subscription. The upgrade is not very expensive. Love the videos, keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot for watching my friend. Appreciate your comments.
Very nice result. A little movement makes alot :)
Yes I agree about the movement.
Thanks, Richard! Timelapse is the next project I want to learn, and this video is really a great inspiration!!
I really appreciate you watching Gary.
Never heard of the LRtimelapes, looks easier then the way ive been doing it trying out time-lapse photography.
Between Dominic and yourself you've given other avenues to try for myself to get out of the single exposure funk im in.
Another great vid Richard.
Thanks for watching. Be warned . .LRTimelapse isn't cheap ..!!!
Hallo Richard, thanks for another great video. The results were really nice. I got the impression, you could read mind, as you mentioned a few points I wanted to pass onto you. Firstly, denoising. I just recently tested denoise programs from DXO, Topaz and the new LR one. Basically all were terrific. DXO was better for details but the free adobe one was not far behind. In tests I found it better to take a single high iso shot and denoise it, than the usual sequator stack. A lot less effort and even better results. Have you tried such things? Secondly, LRTimelapse can do a lot more than you mentioned. Maybe a video specifiacally on this. I had the honour to meet Günther Wegner some years ago in Bavaria. He is a really nice guy and very talented. I look forward to your next trip to the farm, a truely amazing place.
Thanks as always for your great comments David. Yes LRTimelapse is a far more comprehensive program than what I demonstrated .. but often I only need to use the rendering engine for my timelapses. I have also done quite a bit of de-noising high iso foreground images and found excellent results with Topaz and also the new Lightroom option .. but I wouldn't want to apply those to 500 images in a time lapse ..!!!
Excellent video Richard 👏👏 I really enjoyed your behind the scenes look at how you put these amazing timelapses together. What you were doing isn't 'rocket science', but more of a well thought-through workflow that produces amazing results. Thanks for sharing this - I'm almost tempted to let my 'gear acquisition syndrome' take over and go shopping for a slider as I agree that the end result looks so much more appealing when you have some movement in the camera. Great work! All the best my friend 👍👍
Good on you Brian. I very much appreciate your comments mate.
These editing videos are great!
Glad you like them Wayne
That was an excellent video, most inspirational, thank you Richard
You're welcome Bill. Thank you.
I was inspired by your earlier videos last year and hoping to give it another go this summer again. Another perfect demonstration about the foreground. Also, didn't realize there was a plugin for LR, thanks as this is much simpler than the work around I was doing before as a preset.
Thanks Rob. Well LRTimelapse is a stand alone program but it can be incorporated into the Lightroom workflow.
@@nightscapeimages.richard i note that you use LR to process all the frames and then LRT as the export method. In their tutorial, they use Keyframes to tweak and meta data synching. Just curious if you have tried this method and if so, how did the results compare?
Beautiful timelapses, RIchard - always love the hay rake! I’d never realised I could export from LR to LRTimelapse (I’ve always gone LRT > LR > LRT), so that’s good to know; presumably you can’t use LRT’s de-flicker that way round though?
Yes that's correct Paul. You bypass any editing via LRTimelapse. The deflicker in LRT is excellent but I must admit I've never applied it to any of my timelapses.
Excellent, you filled in a few gaps in the process I was getting stuck on in my early days of processing TLing. 🙂
Glad to be helpful John.
Hi Richard, That lens at 8:30 into the video looks like it could do with some warming! 😁You were very brief in your description of your processes in LRTimelapse. Are you saving that detail for another video on LRTimelapse? Deflickering etc. I do like your Zeapon PONS and slider, they seem fairly simple and reliable. 👌😎😊
Very well picked up Geoff . .I had the lens warmer unplugged for a bit accidently. I never deflicker my timelapses . .and in fact I don't generally use LRTimelapse for anything except rendering the final video. So consequently I don't have any in depth videos on the program. Yes the Zeapon PONS system is portable and reliable .. I love it.
Hermosos videos 😍🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼 gran trabajo mi amigo 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for watching Javier.
Did you catch any of the Aurora Australis on Monday 24 April Richard? We had amazing weather with clear skies in Wellington New Zealand, so I got some great shots. I should have attempted a timelapse though. Great video Richard.
Yes I saw a little bit of it Lance . .lots of wonderful images online though.
Another great couple of timelapses.
Is there a stand-alone program for making timelapses that you have any experience with?
Thanks Leon. You can use LRTimelapse as a stand alone program to edit timelapses .. it's really good but quite expensive.
Richard, that’s brilliant! Thanks for sharing this beauty. I have a nagging question about the slider, does it operate on move-shoot-move basis or am I mistaken? I mean am trying to get my head around how to avoid trailing effect when shooting a 10sec exposures on a sliding rail!?
It's a very good question Tamer. It will do either but I have chosen in this video to have the slider moving constantly . .although very slowly. Yes there is movement during the long shutter speed but when assembled into a timelapse it just blends in with the overall effect. This method should only be used when the total timelapse length is over about 2 hours.
The reason I use it this way is so that I can utilize the excellent in-built intervalometer inside the Nikon Z cameras. You can of course connect a cable and make the slider control the camera in a traditional move-shoot-move.
Loved the video as usual Richard. I have one question how do you time the second movement upwards, a while after the horizontal movement, or does one just start after the other one finishes? Is it an app feature? Thank you as always for your brilliant sharing, you never know I may one day get some movement gear inspired by you. :-)
Thanks a lot Les. Yes it's all controlled via the Zeapon app. You input keyframes for each part of the movement and you can mix and match the 2 axis of movement.
Amazing thanks Richard. If you get a chance would love to see a video on the editing process behind blending a separate foreground shot (e.g. In blue hour) with a separate milkyway sky shot😊
Thanks for watching. I do that all the time . .well, to be honest I hardly ever shoot blue hour foregrounds. . but I have lots of videos going over my editing and blending of foregrounds. See here: czcams.com/play/PLAYKmqkUeSM_ovfT8k7ifk26X4zjeqJWb.html or here: czcams.com/play/PLAYKmqkUeSM9eXVRj3boNPWRTSgYIShUh.html
@@nightscapeimages.richard thanks heaps
amazing work, thanks for sharing your setup and workflow. I may have missed it, but what prevents the slider motion while the shutter is open? or is it so subtle for these shots that it just doesn't create noticeable blur?
Glad you asked, Charles. I was wondering the same thing. We take so much pain ti ensure a stable shooting platform for astro that it would be counterintuitive that the slider movement does not introduce motion blur.
That's exactly it Charles. In fact a little motion blur can work wonders with timelapse as well.
@@alpharho_photo I only use this method when the total length of the timelapse is over about 2 hours . .otherwise it would show.
Thanks for the insight, really appreciate and keep up the inspirational work!
Very nice video and very informative! Just curious why you don’t use LRTimelapse to sync photos and deflicker as well as work with some of the masks? Also curious why you don’t export in 2:3 aspect ratio and assemble time lapse in video editing software where you can use digital movement to give it even more dynamic motion? Great results but was just curious. I always struggle with finding good foreground subjects when I do Milky Way time lapses. The farm seems perfect for great subject matter.
Thanks so much for watching. I have found no need to use the full features of LRTimelapse because the Nikon Z cameras Interval Shooting mode is so clean straight out of camera. The exposure smoothing feature is fabulous. It's a big time saver. I can see what you mean about the pan and scan option in video software. . but again I'm using motion control equipment to get the real thing.
@@nightscapeimages.richard thanks for your thoughtful reply. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hi Richard
I'm a big fan of your photos and videos and try to use some of your suggestions for taking timelapse at night as much as possible. But I live in a very small country (Denmark) where it is not so easy to avoid light pollution. So I find it difficult to avoid overexposure when shooting in P mode. and wanted to know if you had a good idea for that problem. I will try to upload an example on my profile, and it could be the moon that is the probleme.
Thanks so much for your great support. Yes I totally understand what you are saying. You have to understand that when is semi auto modes the camera will always measure the exposure of the whole scene. So light pollution, moonlight or even ambient light has the potential to trick the camera.
If you're not doing day to night sequences I'd be shooting in full manual mode for timelapse so you can set the best exposure settings and the camera won't change it.
Many thanks for the informative answer, I will definitely try that next time I go out and take night sky photos.
I used P mode with the idea that it wobbles the requested choices in relation to the situation.
Worked a bit with Manual mode, but found it difficult to set all the right parameters so that I didn't end up with an overly bright or dark result.
I am so privileged that I have been given photoshop and lightroom through my work, that I watch some of your videos to get ideas for editing my images, as I do not have the same opportunity for startracking. But I will definitely try again based on your answer to my problem.@@nightscapeimages.richard
I have got Atoll rotatable bracket as well. Pretty handy isn' it?
Yes it is really handy for sure.
Very inspiring, as always! I just did some timelapse editing this afternoon and noticed again that if I change anything else than basically curve adjustments in the individual files I get an aweful lot of flickering in the end result. Does LRTimelapse deal with this flicker in your experience?
Thanks as always for watching. Yes LRTimelapse does help a lot with anti-flicker. However the way I used it in this video is simply to render the video. I've found the newer mirrorless cameras are better in this regard to the DSLR's.
@@nightscapeimages.richard thanks Richard. May give that a try.
Hi Richard so find the Lens correction causes Flicker?? I do with Mine
No I don't have any issues generally with lens corrections. Sometimes I'll see issues with corrugated iron on sheds with star trails etc .. but the timelapses are pretty good. The Nikon Exposure Smoothing is excellent. The mirrorless Z6 is much better in this regard compared to my previous D750 DSLR.
Hi Rochard another amazing video, stunning results 🎉
Just had a question on how you told the Z6 to do a 15sec exposure while using a 20sec interval. My very basic understanding is that you cant use the interval function on the Z6 in M mode only P or aperture priority. So if you tell the camera to use a 20 sec interval, will it inevitably shoot sone frames at 17 or 18 secs which are within the 20 sec interval? Ie: it will automatically change shutter speed uf iso and aperture are set?
Maybe im misding a step of how to set the 15 sec only exposure time..
Thanks for all your help and knowledge, Gurdeep
Thanks for watching. You are referring to "Interval Priority" which is sort of right. The way I did this shoot was to set the camera into Manual mode, select my 15 sec shutter speed along with the iso of 4000 and aperture of f2.8. When selecting my interval in the "Interval Shooting" menu I put in 20 seconds. What happened was that the camera defaulted to my 15 sec shutter speed and waited another 5 seconds before shooting again.
If I had set my iso too low then it's possible that the camera would have selected a longer shutter speed which would have changed the parameters of the timelapse. It didn't do that because my iso was high enough to give a proper exposure.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Richard amazing thank you! I didn't realise Interval Priority needed to be off to shoot in M, fantastic you've just cured my frustration on this topic 🙌🏼🏆
@@gurdeepkhosa3055 Always happy to help.
Do you use an Astro-modified DSLR? thanks in advance
One of my cameras is astro modified. But I generally don't use it for timelapse.
Richard, what is the brand and model of the tracks you use? Also what is the brand and model of the powered gimbal too?
Hope you don’t mind me asking
No worries at all David. These are Zeapon brand. See this video: czcams.com/video/R3cCvWfpbJ8/video.html
@@nightscapeimages.richard thank you Richard as always
Not sure if anyone else asked, but do you use the private version of LR Time-lapse, or the pro version? Just wondering if the difference in cost is worth the extra features, at least for an average user.
Thanks for watching Derek. I have the Pro version. I think the biggest issue with the free version is the watermark over a certain amount of images.
There are two levels of paid - private and pro. The private version gets rid of the nuisance stuff that plagues the free version. The pro is more expensive. It provides several additional features above and beyond the private. I wasn't sure if you knew how necessary or advantageous the pro features might be. I'll dig into it a little more. I'm not in a rush to get it anyway.
@@dw.in.michigan Hey Derek, I'm using the Private License.
