I REALLY liked this video. I've looked up website for real estate to see what Mexico has to offer, but all I've ever seen are two stories. It's good to know there are one-story homes. I'd love to see more of these types of videos.
The home tours were very interesting and so different. For me, the house would be my pick, take out some of the concrete and put in grass for my dogs, use some of the rest for planting flowers, etc. They are both nice options, regardless. Have fun looking!

Great video. If we were still looking for a home this would give us an excellent idea of the range of options and styles. We ended up with a mix of these two: a very modern house on a moderate size lot with a large garden in the rear and a creek bordering in a small gated community with children playing in the streets. There is plenty of opportunity to modify and make the home our own from a screened in terrace and ceiling fans to photovoltaic and whole house water softener and reverse osmosis filtration system. My engineer wife brought only a tenth of her workshop, but she is admired by every workman we hire. And as Paul says, projects are reasonably affordable in Mexico. Oh, our HOA fees are only $400 MXN per month.
I like both places. they both have their plus and minuses., but very livable. Thank you for this video!

Great video. Great contrast choices. Keep doing one of those real estate comparison videos when you travel to a new place. I think buying a home in Mexico can make sense if you know you want to live in it full-time 7+ years and you have already lived in the target area via a rental. If you have Mexican residency, buying a home as mostly an investment play seems like a questionable Mexico investing choice currently, given the run up in real estate values and given Mexican treasuries are earning around 10% interest. Speaking of Mexican Treasuries, think about doing a short video some day on starting a Cetes Directo account. Some of your viewers might find that interesting.

Very fun (thank you Monica) a lot to like about both of the properties! Do we want easy come easy go with the condo and go traveling, or do we want the freedom of the house and all of its possibilities and then have what maybe a live-in maid to watch over it?

Very good video! I loved the house...need that patio and garden. And no laundry facilities in the apartment?? I would love to know more about this town, too. I'm living at Lake Chapala, but looking at less crowded areas. I love the central highlands, not the coasts. Thanks for this fun look at real estate in that area.
There was a laundry room in the apartment. It just did not have anything in it other than a water heater.
Nice video and explanation of housing in Mexico. I just bought a very well constructed home in Reforma, Oaxaca. It is a 10 minute walk to the business area of Reforma, and 30 minute walk to Santa Domingo an the Zocalo. I paid 6 million pesos for the house and did major updating to replace all the wiring and water systems, and rehab the whole home to new standard. All the living is on one level. As an older man I wanted safety and comfort. Low maintenance was a major goal. I love living in a Mexican neighborhood with access to the tourist area. I walk 5 - 10 miles a day and never get bored! I love living in Mexico!

The apartment is beautiful, and great when you want to lock it up and go on a trip. I used to love doing remodels, but now I want to just hang up my clothes! 😂
I like both properties for you guys. Apt for convenience. Lock the door and go for periods when you want to travel. The house bc it is charming and well loved. You can feel the positive energy of it. And the fruit trees, patio and roof top which would make an amazing outdoor living room. Price of both is great but pers if you were going to hire a house Mgr to manage it whilst you travel, I'd buy that house 🤗

I've noticed in many older Mexican kitchens, including this first one, there aren't any above counter cabinets. Why is this? It means you continually have to bend over to the under-counter cabinets for everything - china, glasses, etc.
You know, I've never noticed that. I have no idea.
I like both even though they are very different from each other. But I think I like the possibilities of the first house; add a small swimming pool and a Jacuzzi, remove the bars from the windows, and, well, a lot of improvements, but the location is better than the other property (in my opinion).

We don't really have a runner up there at this time; however, Linda says she is not done exploring.
The fridge in the bathroom is a nice touch. The second place is much nicer.

First place, OMG so much work besides it's old makes me wonder the state of the plumbing and wiring. I did like the patio and fruit trees but still and easy pass. The condo, nice enough but I'd prefer my own house and property to roam as I choose. Nice vid overall.
I like the house, put a small plunge pool in the courtyard and a hot tub for the cooler nights and the price is good

So many cool places one could live in. We'll have out hands full with South America in 2023. But after that, the world is wide open.
I live in a house in Oregon and we did a fairly extensive remodel last year at approx 150K. Fraction of the cost or not, it's gonna be a long time before I want to do that again, even thought parts were really fun.

I love Tequis and its location to SMA QRO airports etc. But i saw a few videos of the flooding 2 years ago with big rains, kinds scared me off of this location. I would def do the house ! great video thanx !
The floods were in September last year. Only low lying areas along the river were affected. Just don't buy property along the river. It's polluted and smelly anyway.

@@camillelnaylor nothing north of town flooded last year. It was limited to a small area downtown near the river.
I have a friend building house. His living in San Juan del Río. 15 min away from Tequis. And sometimes he has house to sell.
Both properties are very nice and within the reach of many coming from outside Mexico, especially Canadians and US citizens. However, Tesquisquiapan is just northwest of Mexico City which is a little too far from the ocean for me. I do not need to live right on the ocean but something a little closer is my cup of tea.
I like San Sebastián del Oeste but the road from the airport tests my patience. Worry about the suspension driving over intermittent topes and cobblestone.

140 K that is mind blowing ,that house here in Sydney will be over 2 million if not more ...and that is very modest estimate ,so I think the time has come to leave Australia ...
good couple of properties for comparison here. I prefer the local Mexican neighborhood living, but that apartment is super nice and stylish. the only negative for me is no pool. since I have been in Mexico I have also moved from the coast inland... the beach is a nice fantasy but I found it to be too hot and humid 9 months out of the year on the Pacific side. I'd rather live in the cooler and less humid interior and then travel to the beach during the winter months. anyways, will be interesting to see if you guys pick one of these places or keep looking. I hadnt even heard of the town where you are. will have to check into that....
We agree about the heat and humidity, but also the home and car maintenance problems living in a salt water atmosphere. Coming from Florida I suspect Paul and Linda are used to those. We found a location in the mountains at 3,000 feet elevation, an hour and 15 minutes from the coast. So a monthly trip to the beach is a requirement.
Beautiful Condo, a good buy. Same condo could cost $1M in LA, far from beach, beach front condo double price.

Hey Paul and Linda; Great video as always and nice to see Linda participate and enjoying herself. Quick question about real estate prices in Mexico. I see a lot of properties, listed by different companies, list the prices in U.S. dollars. Does that mean that they are targeting these properties to foreign investors? Maybe the real question here is; when other properties are listed in millions, (or tens of millions) of MX Pesos, what percentage of local population can afford those prices?
YES!! And you will be paying gringo prices. They really don't want us in their country..but they desperately want our money. There are no bargains in most part of Mexico for us. They just go online and see what things cost in the US and charge a tiny bit less.
Love the 1st house thus far
Both are more than we would be looking for.
Our goal is to start in Mexico, stay until our senior dogs pass away, and then travel around Mexico for a couple years and then take several years to slow travel south until we finish in Argentina. We speak Spanish, have lived abroad before, and have no desire to surround ourselves with tourists and expats.
We thrive on the cultural experiences and do not want USA-light. We love our country, but need the adventure. When we do finally settle down, we want to renovate something in a typical middle class place.

Thanks for the video. My wife and I are also looking for homes in Mexico, and prefer single family homes, something that you can actually work on and make it your own. I think gated communities are good when you first start off, renting, but to buy I don’t like them because I’m not a fan of any HOA’s. Plus having your own courtyard and garden is always a big plus for us.
We bought a home with gorgeous gardens and a gated community. While I hate HOAs in the States, I like not being on our own in a country where I know the language, but I am continually discovering how much I don't know about the culture, from electrical systems and plumbing, to kids and holidays. We didn't want an expat resort, so a close Mexican community has many advantages, despite living in a very rural location in western Colorado for 50 years.
Having lived in Tequis a couple of years now, I can tell you that house for 2.8 MDP is a pretty good deal for these parts with that much land.

It's interesting I never really saw "Americanized suburbs" in my Mexico travels. Didn't see many front or backyards with grass and stuff. The homes were built right out to the street and (seems) the first thing they'll built were tall walls all around the property topped with security spikes and stuff. And they'll put in patio areas all over and use a lot of big planters for their garden greenery. Also one caveat, they don't have zoning laws like we have in the states so if you're buying a single home somewhere, 6 months down the line someone might put a nightclub in next door. Just saying.
I would pick the first house. It is totally adorable and it has so much potential. It would feel like a real home. The condo apartment thing just doesn’t feel like the family place

I like the second place. What's the climate like there? Puerto Vallarta is too humid half the year. I don't want to live here year round.
