  • This is a step-by-step process for changing the engine oil and filter on a Mercedes-AMG GT vehicle with the C190 engine and M178 variant. It starts by ensuring that the engine is at the correct operating temperature, and then raising the vehicle for easier access to the oil and filter components. The instructions include details on how to safely drain the oil and replace the oil filter, drain plug, and sealing ring, and how to properly check and top off the oil level after the change. The text also reminds the reader to wear appropriate protective clothing, and to check for leaks after the process is complete. Overall, it seems to be a detailed and thorough guide on how to change the engine oil and filter on this specific vehicle model.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Instructions:
before you start changing the oil bring the AMG engine to operating temperature
in neutral step on the gas in order to achieve the optimal oil temperature
    it's over 100 degrees
before you turn off the engine let it run for at least 30 seconds in neutral driving program C
    then raise the vehicle
to show you better we remove the underbody paneling however you don't need to as all components can be reached
for the next steps be sure to wear the appropriate protective clothing
the time starts now because after you turn off the engine you have a maximum of three minutes to drain the engine oil a helpful tool for a clean drain is a commercially available metal pipe
once it's mounted remove the drain plug on the oil tank
after about five minutes the oil has drained out you can install a new unused drain plug
remove visible oil residue before inserting the plug
next tighten the plug firmly to the lateral stop
with brake cleaner now remove all remaining oil residue
the plug must be absolutely watertight therefore at the end carry out a leak test by doing a visual
inspection continue with the oil pan
remove the drain plug with the sealing ring and let out the engine oil
replace the used ceiling ring with a new one
tighten the drain plug with the correct torque
    then clean the area
now the oil filter is removed
undo the screw lid so that the oil from the filter and housing can drain out
replace the oil filter with a new unused filter
remove the oil filter from the cover and replace the sealing ring
bring on the new ceiling ring and fit the new oil filter into the screw cap
    then install the new filter
and tighten it with the correct torque
here pay attention to the fact that no oil residue remains and clean the housing
the AMG GT is now ready for new engine oil
lower the vehicle and pour in fresh oil
make sure that no oil residue gets into the engine compartment or remains there
once the container is filled measure the oil level
again let the engine warm up
once the ignition is off you have two minutes to check the oil level with a dipstick in the container and correct
pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a lint free cloth
once you've inserted the dipstick once again the oil level should be between the maximum and minimum marking
    here everything is okay
as a leak check a visual inspection of the bottom of the vehicle should be carried out at the end in our case the oil filter change has been successfully completed
the Mercedes-AMG GT is ready for the race track.

Three items: 1. size and dimensions of tube use to direct oil to catch pan? 2. What is the tool or gadget used to release plastic oil plug? 3. Why two oil drain plugs? Thanks

Looks like a usual hex / allen key for the plastic drain plug on the oil tank - you can get long ones for this particular task. Two drain plugs to cover (1) the actual oil tank (dry sump) and (2) to drain residual oil in the bottom of the engine not yet returned to the oil tank. As for the tube, I suggest using a set of calipers to measure that aperture where the oil tank drain plug is, and then matching that size to some tubing avaliable at your local DIY store. You could improvise with any sort of tubing - I don't see why it couldnt be plastic, for example.

Hello I work on these cars for a living and will share some tips.
      1. There are easier methods to drain the oil reservoir than are shown in this video. I usually just siphon it out through the top (from where the oil is poured into the vehicle). Much cleaner this way, and you don't have to mess with the plastic drain plug. A hand pump works fine for this. If you are still dead set on draining from the bottom, a form-a-funnel can be rolled up like a newspaper and used in place of the pipe.
      2. This is the Mercedes oil drain plug tool used on vehicles with plastic oil pans, or oil reservoirs. A google search will bring it up. Not too expensive.
      3. This vehicle uses a somewhat dry sump system where the majority of the oil is stored in a reservoir versus the crankcase. The engine doesn't really have a traditional oil pan. Simply a sump which holds a small amount of oil cold start purposes.

@@LynxStarAuto my understanding is that you cannot siphon oil from a dry sump engine. Is that correct?
