The Chosen One is also a little cliche, i know their chosen at the start of the game, but its a name that seems more fitting for a fantasy story, not a post-apocalyptic sci-fi like Fallout
Not really, because the Chosen One came from a tribe in the wasteland, that picked the player to save them. They called the player the Chosen One for a reason.
@@Belanduraz don't forget the chosen one also kind of gets forced into becoming the chosen one and going on a very dangerous quest he's unlikely to come back from
Honestly? The Courier. It's thematic and also very metaphoric if you buy Ulysses and his pseudophilosophical ranting, which is why I try to throw his head into a launch tube and fry Dry Wells. But one measly small town service has at least six couriers, and since it's a recognizable job there must be more services with more couriers. Some other names lack specialness as well but this is more... banal. It's a job and that can work as a title, but it needs to be more exclusive and come attached with personal legend. A "They call him the..." Kind of thing. "That's The Negotiator" or "Oh no, they called in The Accountant" or "It must be serious, they're activating The Fixer." Other names have some punch. The Lone Wanderer. The Sole Survivor. The Chosen One. Even The Vault Dweller has some oomph the first time around.
I mean, if you tell Piper that you were stuck with a thousand guinea pigs who turned carnivorous, the name "Sole Survivor" does kinda make sense, doesn't it?
Vault Dweller (yes, even the Fallout 1 one), The Initiate and The Courier are my least favorite ones personally. They're too generic and NPC's can be identified with this title as well. Lone Wanderer is my favorite one and was the most fitting for myself since I didn't have any companions till the end of the game (Fawkes) because of the stupid karma requirements.
I love this take, agree with it 100%. Because of me exploring I only got Star Paladin Cross at around 90h in the game, and NPCs aside, after the death of James, your character has pretty much nobody. Lone Wanderer is a very fitting and cool name
I think it refers to the fact that the lone wanderer really doesn't belong to any area of the wastes. They were removed from their home and forced to embrace the wasteland. So no matter where, when plush comes to shove he is alone. Though we don't really know the impact it had on their psyche we could imagine how depressing being forced to leave your home behind can be.
Yeah but what would have been better? Double Tap? Lead Head? Second Chance? Lucky Loser? Personally, I don't mind The Courier. Reminds me of a book I once read about a wanderer who wore a postal uniform in a postapocalyptic setting

When it comes to the sole survivor I felt the same way but in time I felt like his name made a lot of sense as the reason why he called that is cuz of piper newspaper unlike The lone wonderer XD I have no idea why he got that badass name
The Initiate. Considering initiate is basically the title for a fresh recruit of the Brotherhood of Steel, there's no glory to the title despite their achievements throughout the game. And I have heard alternate titles for the protagonist of 76, particularly the Pioneer and the Appalachian.
Can we agree The Courier is the best nick name. It's the most make sense name to introduce to people, when ask to like "Who are you?" "I am a Courier" and also it fits well when NPC reffers you with the Courier rather than other nickname, since that exactly what's your job. And lastly i love how they made us forgot our pass, and makes it like I don't remember anything the only thing i know that i am a courier, hence the nickname comes.
Maybe the sole survivor could be metaphorical? Since the institute took away Shaun and raised him in the institute which in essence killed the Shaun that had loving parents and turned him into an institute director.
Lone Wonderer doesn't really make sense since he's looking for his dad and joins the brotherhood, also Lone Wonderer sounds more like a name you'd give someone who's older, has a lot of experience as they built a rep for being a loner, the Lone Wonderer is barely an adult and exploring the world.
Of all Fallout protagonists, Courier is the best title, cause that is what you are & do: you deliver items & messages, sometimes... you are the message.
The Sole Survivor title makess the most sense after the game ending. No matter which path you take, you will be the only surviving dweller of Vault 111.
Tbh i think sole Survivor doesn't mean the Surviver of Vault 111 I think it means the Sole Survivor of the old world before the bombs dropped on Boston
We all got to agree on one thing though, Fallout made being a postman the most badass job to ever exist. Remember that everyone in NV is more looking forward to the fight of 2 mailmen rather than the battle of Hoover Dam.
He's the "sole survivor" of a pre-apocalypse life. Anyone who survived the bombs also dealt with the wasteland immediately after and they had to adapt in real-time. The Sole Survivor was frozen the minute after the bombs, he is essentially a preserved specimen of the Pre-War. He can have a conversation in Goodneighbor with Daisy about what life was like, and they're still attached to those memories. They're not 200 years removed, like a distant memory; to them, that time was LAST WEEK.
I always thought Vault Dweller sounded lame honestly. I think the Chosen One is pretty good though considering even the NPCs in-game know how it sounds.

It can be a scarier one too if you plan to kill everyone in the Mojave Wasteland.

Courier Yang: I'm an Ex-NCR trooper turned Courier turned Veteran Ranger.
Knight Sawyer: I'm the gal who stands up for my friends and kicked the slaver butts out of the Lincoln Memorial.
Gen. Robert: I'm an Ex-Serviceman and knew Randall Clark.
Initiate Cole: I'm the first protagonist.
Paladin Abel: I stopped the Enclave.
You are literally chosen at the start of fallout 2
@@Belanduraz Not to mention, whenever you mention your title to people outside the village, the player gets mercilessly mocked about it
@@Belanduraz don't forget the chosen one also kind of gets forced into becoming the chosen one and going on a very dangerous quest he's unlikely to come back from
In 76 we are from West Virginia, I live in West Virginia and we're called mountaineers. Makes sense for us to be mountaineers.
Courier is the best one
The best name though has to be The Lone Wanderer, I mean, come in dude 🤣🤣
Well if you insist
The edgiest and most angsty, maybe
The abbreviation jesus 😅
Like how "the courier" has different meanings
I would have called the Sole Survivor something like "The Unfrozen" or "The Old Worlder". Because he was frozen and comes from the Old World.
I mean, if you tell Piper that you were stuck with a thousand guinea pigs who turned carnivorous, the name "Sole Survivor" does kinda make sense, doesn't it?
Old Worlder sounds pretty cool, imagine some guy from the past going around making a name for himself.
Old Worlder sound kinda nice
I named my Protagonist on Fallout 3, Todd Howard.
I will go with the Lone Wanderer.
Even if we exclude Dogmet, he/she's not truly "alone", in comparison to other protagonists.
The lone wanderer is alone as if you don't already know you wouldn't have any companions for the entire game
I like how in 76 some call the player “seven-six”
Based on just the actual name itself and not the context or the characters, I would say the Courier is the lamest name since it's literally a mailman.
Yeah but what would have been better? Double Tap? Lead Head? Second Chance? Lucky Loser?
Personally, I don't mind The Courier. Reminds me of a book I once read about a wanderer who wore a postal uniform in a postapocalyptic setting
The Pioneer/s would have been the perfect name for the 76 protagonist.
In 76 the raiders will refer to you as 7 6 which is kinda better that vault dweller. And yes they say it separately.
The Courier gotta be the best one
Nah lone wanderer is the best, the courier is second tho
@@JohnDoe-hj9fh virgin Lone Wanderer out looking for his father vs chad The Courier out looking for someone who shot his head twice and buried them

I actually really love the sole survivor nickname. In a way they're the last survivor of several things. The old world (of course there are other exceptions) and
the last survivor of Vault 111. But my favorite is the lone wanderer
The sole survivor abbreviation thing cracked me up, so horrible but still funny
For the sole survivor in my opinion something that would've sounded much better with something like the widowed
76ers is used in game as in being called " 76" pretty often.
I like to call the 76 dwellers the "Reclaimers"
Who wants to walk around all day being called a "Vault Dweller"?
Another nickname is the dictator … maybe 😂
When it comes to the sole survivor I felt the same way but in time I felt like his name made a lot of sense as the reason why he called that is cuz of piper newspaper unlike The lone wonderer XD I have no idea why he got that badass name
The Initiate.
Considering initiate is basically the title for a fresh recruit of the Brotherhood of Steel, there's no glory to the title despite their achievements throughout the game.
And I have heard alternate titles for the protagonist of 76, particularly the Pioneer and the Appalachian.
Coming up with cool non specific post apocaliptic names for characters get's kinda hard the longer you think about it
I call the 76's main character the Reclaimer or Rebuilder.
I will have to contest the fallout 76 because they do use 76er or 7-6 in the case of Crater
The warrior is badass and underrated. The chosen one that’s always glorious. The vault dweller sounds mysterious yet adventurous.
I'm also a Courier
I think the best one would be THE CHOSEN ONE.
Maybe the sole survivor could be metaphorical? Since the institute took away Shaun and raised him in the institute which in essence killed the Shaun that had loving parents and turned him into an institute director.
Shaun also dies at the end no matter what.
we can argue that in fallout 4 the main protagonist actually have their name like Nate and Nora which I always choose when playing
That's why I still like to call the Sole Survivor by his name lmao
Of all Fallout protagonists, Courier is the best title, cause that is what you are & do: you deliver items & messages, sometimes... you are the message.
I named my character Marco in fallout 4... codsworth allways addressed me as "mr marco"
The Sole Survivor title makess the most sense after the game ending. No matter which path you take, you will be the only surviving dweller of Vault 111.
Some allies in 76 refer you as a Seventy-Sixer
Personally I always liked the term “The Pioneer”
Chosen one for what he just gets called to clean up a mess that wasn't his problem
I mean, who wants to be a hero nicknamed the courier? Might be a small part of the job, but im more than a glorified delivery boy 🤣
The courier is definitely the worst. It’s like if you were called “the mailman”
I always thought Vault Dweller sounded lame honestly. I think the Chosen One is pretty good though considering even the NPCs in-game know how it sounds.
I think the vault dweller fits perfectly not because it is a good nickname but because it was the first Fallout and calling out that this is not only just a dude from a vault but THE dude from the vault sounds nice.
Yes Sean initially did survive the vault but I always take care of that in the end.
I think the sole survivor is perfect, he’s the only one who survived untouched from the bombs and survived everything in fallout 4.
F76: “The Short Bus People”
Courier I think hits best for NPCs addressing you. It even sounds like an actual name.
