As many fans have already informed you, this was the favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, an elderly lady from Pennsylvania who dedicated the last years of her life to promoting the music of Nightwish, the band she loved. Ann used to greet new reactors with a brief history of the band (which I continued to post on her behalf when she was hospitalized), and a few words of encouragement to keep going. She often recommends this song for a future reaction.
You already have an idea about the Nightwish fandom, divided into groups that support one of the 3 singers. Ann was a real bridge of communication between these groups of fans, who were often in conflict, because she was a person full of tact and diplomacy. This explains to a good extent why many fans remember her fondly.
Thank you for telling me more about Ann because without her many might not know about Nightwish especially here in the USA. I thank you for continuing what she started because without the information you and the fans provided we wouldn’t know where to start the journey so I appreciate your support and feedback as I take this musical journey❤️🎶🤘🏻 NW Army!! I only got to chat with Ann once....and I told her I started listening to hard rock as a very young age. I preferred Ozzy, Steppenwolf, Grand Funk Raildroad, Led Zeppelin and others! She was such a wonderful person...I wished I would have gotten to know her better.
R.I.P. Dear Ann Waychoff june 28th 2020. This song is dedicated to her, because she loved this song so much. After she passed away, Gabriel Bardac (our 5 star general) took over the torch and i think that Ann from Heaven find that he is doing a great job. So do i and most of the Nightwish army

Welcome back to Nightwish with Floor. For me, she is the one who brought me to love Nightwish four years ago as a young 63 year-old. Since then, Carol, my lovely wife of 43 years, and I have had the opportunity to see them perform live in San Francisco on May 18th, 2022 and have fallen ever so much more deeply into Nightwish. I can't wait for their next album... considering every other day I listen to different parts of their Human || Nature album during my workouts. Lovely reaction and thank you.

Well, this song has so many deeper meanings than you probably think. The origins is from a Walt Whitman's poem, than there'a connection of the mother of all "Nightwish Army": the late Ann Waychoff. But, in the end, it is a good song anyway!

A few days ago Nightwish uploaded three short videos, wallpapers, separately on different platforms. One wallpaper had 30 gears on it, another 4 flowers, the third one 24 butterflies. April 30th 2024? I think fans agree it has to mean, that Nightwish is going to reveal something about the new album, Nightwish' 10th, two days from now. The title of the album? The tracklist? The first music video, of the three promised? There will be a lyric video of the rest of the songs.
There was also sound on at least one of the videos, and it sounded to me like a movie projector. Does that mean a music video is coming out on Tuesday? We'll see in a couple of days?

Usually when people ask me what is my favourite Nightwish song my reply would be whatever one I’m listening to at the moment. However Song Of Myself is in the top 5. That slide up by Marko is one of the reasons and Floor utilizing more of her low register is another.

Hello dear reactor. This Nightwish song 😍😍😍😍😍😍These lines: "A catnap in the ghost town of my heart" and "A midnight flight into Covington Woods, A princess and a panther by my side, These are Territories I live for, I'd still give my everything to love you more". Tuomas...you metal Mozart I love your music work. But that Jukka's drumming and double kicking, I can say million times how I admire his playing and style. Jukka is the reason when I started using head bandanas, I have 6 different of those. I really really miss Jukka on Nightwish, but Kai Hahto the current drummer is the best replacement that ever possible. Dear reactor, I love these Nightwish stories here. I was at Nightwish concert here in Finland last June, and I tell you if you ever have a chance seeing them live go!

Marko is one of that kind of Singers, that is good on his own, but he really enhances those he sings with (this is not to take anything away from Floor or other duets), and I really think that is a rare but amazing gift to have.

Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone.
Favourite parts:
Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye.
Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona.
The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms.
Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown.
Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending.
At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts -
"All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm.

This song is a tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of the video you just saw.

Not to be disagreeable, but I find that most reactors interrupt too frequently to make irrelevant and unnecessary comments that don't contribute much of anything to the experience, but rather take away from it. A good reactor keeps interruptions to a bare minimum and makes them at appropriate points in the video, only to contribute useful information about the song or the band, or to point out technical aspects of the performance if the reactor is trained to do so. There are a handful of reactors on YT that stick to this protocol and I enjoy their reactions, and I am always on the lookout for new ones, but they're hard to find.

Song of Myself is one of my favs, "piano black over pristine waters" are you kidding me? One of my first thoughts to finding Nightwish was they reminded me of what a 21st century Moody Blues might sound like. Tuomas keyboards always made me think of Mike Pinder in how much mystery and serenity and connection they bring in their music. They both go to places few have gone before. I was fortunate to have seen the Moody Blues in San Diego in 1970. They sounded as good live as in the studio. Nightwish is one of the few bands I've ever seen or heard that is better live, that's hard to believe. I read Mike Pinder died this week. May he rest in peace. I guess that leaves Justin Hayward as the only surviving member. Just like Nightwish, the Moody Blues were so far ahead of the curve and they brought nothing greatness.
