I am incredibly grateful for this tutorial, as the kesh is my FAVORITE jig. I just learnt morrisons thanks to your video. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Also youre channel name checks out. Lol. keep up the good and appreciated work.
Yeah, this was great. My feet will dance and my heart is singing. With this jig and musicians who plays together we can filled every pup with laughing people. Thank you. Greetings from germany
First jig I am attempting to learn! Thank you for the thorough breakdown. Here's hoping I get it eventually!
Stephanie, you are simply the best!
Your bloopers make my day!
More power to you!
This song is the reason why I bought a Tin Whistle so thank you for this tutorial
Just found this and am glad to have an easy instruction for The Kesh Jig. Thx!
Thank you for this tutorial :) I’ve been enjoying trying this with you today :)
Great tutorial METHODS. I am just starting and have on other videos of yours I have to reduce the speed to .5 and sometimes .25 in order to see your finger movements. That is with the whistle and fingers further away and your speed is full blast. This makes us sooo much easier to learn from you. Really. At least, as a total beginner, it is easier to learn. Thanks and I hope you consider sticking with this methodology in the future for your CZcams tin whistle academy students.
It was easy for me to understand. Thank you for explaining in detail.
I try it. I watch in Japan.
My mandolin playing friend asked me to learn this one.... with your excellent resource, I feel I may just be able to. Tx U.
I just love this channel! 👍🥰
Great to see your exited about playing the whistle :-) The OAIM has some great instructors to guid you through a ton of instruments :-) Though I can understand how tabs can be usefull in learning to play, I would still advice anyone to gain your skill by listening and trying... when you listen to the tune and you learn to play with the various notes you create a better feel for the flow and the music it self. So, really try and learn as much as possible by ear first. 2 other tips to keep things fun while learning how to play is by looking up other people/artists versions of the tunes you are trying to learn to play... and secondly, no rush... just have fun with it and don't be afraid to mess it up... as long as you have fun and feel like you willing to learn to listen its all going to be working out just fine :-) Cheers :-)
I'm really new to your channel but you convinced me to add a tin whistle to my repertoire (which arrived yesterday) and your videos are just the best! Thank you for being you. PS I *love* your jumper! ♥️🤗
This is awesome!
I've Watched the Ornaments video, but it's always nice to view it again as a Refresher.
This is a very good session tune 🎶
Beautiful again. Thank you .
Thanks a lot from Russia for a good lesson, I'll try to play this Jig

Hi! Stephany! I just subscribe! I´m starting to play the wistle and your tutuorials are grate!, thxs so much. Can you tell us a good documentary on Irish folk music we could watch? GOOD HEALTH to all!
Nice hand knitted
I’m working up to learning this one, with Gallway Girl and Spancil Hill.
I have a song request for 'Black is the Colour', please. Your videos keep me inspired to continue my tin whistle journey.
Thank you I enjoyed your lesson like your Humor from René
To me, this piece is the epitome of traditional Irish music.
Okay, thank you! Lol...
Nice 😊 Have you ever done or can you do the Scottish Highland Fling in D? Thanks 😊
@CutiePie Have you ever heard the song Parcel of Rogues? I've found a few sheet for it, but my favorite version of this song is played by Beltaine. The do it on whistle and its so so beautiful and I dream of playing that. If you ever have time to maybe try taking tabs by ear from that version it would be so amazing. I really recomend the songs by Beltaine specially the ones from the albuns "Beltaine" and "Koncentrad". Their arragement of Bring the Boil is also one of my favorites, and the song Beltaine too
oh my, Grrreeen. :)
Very Good 😘💕💖💕💖
its sooo nice.thx for share and teach. hope you can make some music like Celtic Hymn . really like this kind of music. but its so difficult for me to control the rhythm and find the tab
I hope my Celtic Hymn tab was useful for you. There are lots of slower songs on the channel of Celtic origin 😊
Another nice one to learn. Could you teach me - this is your fight song on the tin whistle.
Send me a link 😊 I'll check it out.
Cool, don't know if it would lend itself to the whistle. But such powerful melody. czcams.com/video/mOO5qRjVFLw/video.html
@@CutiepieTinWhistle The fight song would be so cool. thank you for posting and teaching! :)
Hi cutie pie would you be able to do colour of the wind from Pocahontas please 🙂🙂
I will be paying especially close attention to preforming a roll .. rolls have had me 'stumped'
This is a good tune to learn to play fast because it is short enough to memorize. The Humors of Tulla is also a good tune for that.
@Martin Heermance Came for the jig and subscribed to you for 8-bit and robotics :) (I also subscribed to CutiePie for more tin whistle!)
@@KT-ut9zg Cool glad to hear it. I've been in a video dry spell lately, but have a number of projects that I should be documenting soon.
any more tune suggestions for a beginner?
@@konstantinkolodziej4498 "The Road to Lisdoonvarna" and "The Boys of the Bluehill" are both fun tunes. I recall that the A section of both tunes was easier, but the B section was doable with some practice.
@@mheermance thx :-)
Well played there. It is nice' to hear you playing the faster Irish tunes. Some of them are harder' on a tin whistle.
Can the "Entry Of The Gladiators" by Julius Fucik be played on the Tin Whistle? If so, could you do a video? Thank you. Love your videos!!
Send me a link to a version you like on CZcams and I'll check it out :)
Very pretty and fun tune. Cutie pie if I may give a request. I am trying to get the song down on my Killarney whistle. The hills of Connemara. I believe that it was one of the songs in the movie the Titanic. From the scene down in third class. Thank you in advance. I understand if you're very busy and may not have the time. Have a good evening. Thank you again,John...
Please make a tutorial for bloodywood - Jee veerey

Pipe song......typo
Is that a knitted sweater?
Looks good
I knitted it! :D My first ever one, haha.
Heya, just wondering what key you need or does it make a difference?
I'm playing a D here, so if you want to play the same notes as me, you'll need a D. Otherwise you can just follow the tabs and use any key of whistle. It will just sound lower or higher than mine, depending on what whistle key you choose 😊
Hey are u irish cuz I live in wexford camplie
Your videos are amazing. Could you please give a recommendation on a type of tin whistle to buy that is easy to learn. I would like the whistle to sound like the Palestinian flute. The Palestinian flute doesn’t sound like the Arabian flute. They sound completely different. I have never played any kind of musical instrument. I know it is going to take work to learn how to play but really want to learn how to play to entertain family and friends. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Any six hole tin whistle (preferably a 'high D' whistle) is very easy to learn. I have a video on buying your first whistle here: czcams.com/video/9CXpoO_H60A/video.html
Sorry. dont work link on "Printable tabs here"

your right. It is hard to play
I need the bugger so I can see
Hi, so you do private tuition over Skype or zoom?
I don't at the moment, though you should find everything you need to learn to play on my channel here for free :) If you do feel the need for a tutor though I can recommend some - let me know. x
6:50 100 bpm
Is this for tin whistle D?
The Tutorial is on D whistle, yes, but once you learn the tune, you can use the tabs to play on any key of whistle 😊
@@CutiepieTinWhistle okay thanks
Nicely done. I noticed that as you speed up you have a natural tendency move from round playing to held and cut playing. Jigs are not reels so a little more held and cut expression is part of the dynamics of the genre. Think along the lines of creating a pulse. This less than doting and cutting but also not playing round. I'm sure I'm going to get some blowback for being snobish and hypercritical but this a tune I love to play and there a tension between speed expression and control. That being said your video is instructional and as such is up there with the best of them. My comment is purely in the spirit of where someone could take this fabulous tune. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Marc :) constructive advice is always welcome! It'll be really useful for people reading the comments too :)
Can you tell us more about the difference between 'round' and 'held and cut' playing (I might be able to do things more accurately for a future video that way :) )?
Unfortunately I don't really know enough about playing Irish music, jigs, reels (or music in general) to make instructional videos, and I don't think I ever will without professional and strict tuition myself, haha, but people seem to like it (and ask for it) so I just do the best I can learning myself by ear . I don't think I'll ever improve, lol, but I don't have an interest in it to be honest. I just enjoy playing around a little :) I think people quite like that casual approach - no pressure, just enjoy!
@@CutiepieTinWhistle Reels are often played round meaning each eighth note is given equal value. You can pound these out as fast as you can play them without squashing the phrasing or crashing and burning. Although crashing and burning is its own kind of fun. Jigs are often written round, all eighths but emphasis is given to the first eighth note of the beat with a little extra on the first note of the measure to create a pulse. So basically you shave off the second eighth note to slightly pad the first note. You could write it as a dotted eighth followed by a sixteenth note but that is honestly is almost overkill. It's a subtle kind of expression. Strathspeys really are held and cut and written as such. The inescapable truth is Celtic tunes often defy musical notation and should be played in any way that gives you pleasure.
Great notes but I got to learn WERE to breath in this one its so fast
Like with the pipes, you cant get around that it will take time. there are only a minority of times in which you will ever learn something.
If you were describing this song to a person who is blind and does not know what the notes are on a tin whistle how would you describe the fingering like bottles to cover want to learn it as a good party piece but blind and do not know the correct notes on the fingering of the tin whistle give a listen to a piece by The Dubliners called the fourposter bed
I best way to learn really would be to listen to the tune over and over, and get to know the sound your whistle makes when you cover certain numbers of holes. You'd then be able to copy and repeat what you hear.
I could send you the number of holes to cover, and how hard you'd need to blow, bit it's quite a complicated tune to learn in that way.
@@CutiepieTinWhistle my favourite piece on the whistle is the four poster bed I’ll upload a video for you to see if you would like
@@CutiepieTinWhistle that would be great trying to learn more Irish traditional stuff on the tin whistle that is my main goal to play Irish traditional reels and jigs instead of singing them playing instrumental pieces
@@tiernandevine2849 if you're able to message me on any of my social media sites that would be useful, or email me, so I can send it. Hopefully you have someone who can help you with that. I have links under my videos, or my email is sbfilmstudios@gmail.com
@@CutiepieTinWhistle I will go and have a look now
Thanks for this, Stephanie. My only reservation is that, lovely though it is, it is another Irish tune. I think the whistle is such a versatile instrument it can play in many different styles but in the last few years it seems to have become be predominantly associated with Irish music. How about introducing a greater variety of tunes? In one of your earlier videos you said you liked swing and big band jazz. I’m sure some of the tunes by Glen Miller or the great swing era clarinetists like Benny Goodman or Artie Shaw would sound great on the whistle. How about “Begin the Beguine”. You know, Stephanie, it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing….
I have lots and lots of tunes here that aren't Irish 😊 but the Irish music is always the most popular, so I try to add one in whenever I can. I haven't really done one since Christmas so I figured it was about time 😉
@@CutiepieTinWhistle Absolutely! It's apropos to play Irish music on the Irish tin whistle. 😊
Although, I must admit, they sound equally as nice on my violin, concert flute, recorder, concertina and harmonica. 😉 ♫
@@CutiepieTinWhistle Fair point! You do have lots of other non-irish music on your channel but I suppose my point is that Irish music does tend to dominate. I’ve nothing against jigs and reels but I think the whistle is so versatile it can be used to play all sorts of music from jazz to classical. When you look for tutorials on the internet so much is focused on Irish music. There are very few examples of jazz or swing played on the whistle so I thought that might be something that you could offer as well, not instead of. The whistle as an Irish instrument only really took off in the 1960s. Prior to that, there was really great whistle music (Kwela) coming out of South Africa. This is very rarely featured on the internet other than in its original form. Maybe this is something else you could cover in one of your videos?
@@christophertsiliacos8958I’m not sure what an “Irish” tin whistle is? Is it any different from any other tin whistle? Certainly the tin whistle has been associated with Irish music since the 1960’s but musicians like Les Lieber were producing extraordinary music with the whistle back in the 1930s.
@@michaelparsons5505 "Is it any different from any other tin whistle?" No. It’s no different from any other tin whistle. It’s just one of the many sobriquets associated with this fine wind instrument; also called, among other pseudonyms, the penny whistle, Scottish penny whistle, and my favorite moniker of all - the Irish tin whistle. 😉 ♫
Hi! Get one to me please. I live in Brazil.
You'd have contact the whistle maker at the website in the video description of you wish to purchase this whistle. I don't make them or own any, just the one I play in the video.
Have you watched my videos. Fergus Neil Michael O'Doherty. Can you do. Doherty's Reel for me.....and.....maybe..Down The Brooom.....or Champion At Keeping Them Rolling.....cheers......you post good video. Cheers
ppppffffff, va falloir que je prenne des cours.....
Love your channel. It is probably an asthetic thing, but one thing I like about the OAIM tutorial is the lack of video cuts. It may be worth it to hone the skill of talking on a subject for extended periods of time. It may take a few attempts to articulate for minutes in a row, but it will save on editing time. I notice the many-cuts trend with a lot of videos. For me personally, it throws off the continuity and concentration and difficult to connect with. Good teachers can lecture for tens of minutes at a time, it'd be good to build that skill.
I'm a professional spokesperson as my job, so I have the skills and experience for that 😂 the editing style is a personal choice to try and keep the content fresh and current, though I appreciate it's not to everyone's taste. It's also a great way to get as much info into a short amount of time as possible, without the need write scripts and practise speeches. It allows me more time to concentrate on the music and putting out new tutorials every week 😊 unfortunately in this day and age, you're only as good as your latest tutorial 🤣🤣
@@CutiepieTinWhistle As I watch more of your videos, and produce more of my own, I appreciate your choice more. It's good that you have headings so I can skip to the appropriate part. I have been starting at your channel, because I appreciate the way you use ornaments sparingly compared to other teachers. I think it's important for students to trust the melody before adding ornaments where they thing they are "supposed" to go.
three dislikes are udf lads
Always in favor of the Irish tunes. Be well.
