The entire top guys back in that era can laugh. Was the greatest era of BB ever. Some of BB ATGs lost to Ronnie (and Dorian) and would have won if not for him. I tell you, i'd rather be Flex wheeler than say Brandon Curry or Rhoden. Guys that will be forgotten Mr Os, while guys like Flex, Ray, Levrone names will live on regardless of winning the Mr o or not.

Well no one else trains like he did when he was in his prime, so he definitely has that on them. Same with Dorian, their training sessions were constantly in the verge of total self-destruction, so I can sorta see why they'd think they wouldn't make the cut back in the day.

Ronnie and Dorian and a few other guys from that era are absolute legends. Training hard on the limit with massive weights. They were ready to put it all on the line to be the best. Look at how much Ronnie has sacrificed health wise and he doesn't even regret it.

@dhsilv2 Even if you're not a fan of the bulbous mass monster look Ronnie in his first couple of Olympias was in incredible shape, still had a very small midsection despite being more muscular than just about all the other guys.
The reason for the classic events is partly for the people who don't like that mass monster look, but also so that people who could never get that big if they had a gun to their heads can still compete in something. It's like weight classes in powerlifting, gotta give the smaller guys a chance to be good at something because when it's all open class it's game over for them. That's why you've got no chance at something like strongman unless you're 6'6" and 250lbs lean before you ever touch a barbell.
@dhsilv2 Because bodybuilding isn't modelling. The scoring is objective(-ish), and it's not a matter of who "looks" best because "looks" are subjective, one of the most important factors is muscularity and the more you have of it the higher the score. If two bodybuilders have exactly the same shape, proportions, symmetry, condition etc except one of them is bigger, then that's the better bodybuilder and he should win, regardless of whether people consider him too big and would rather look like the smaller one.

I am SO happy to see the improvements in Ronnie’s overall mobility in the last year or so. It sound like he finally found a way to maintain his true passion for training and FINALLY begin to see some benefits from the surgeries and other treatments that Joe Rohan turned him on to. For a while there, I had a really hard time seeing how affected his mobility was after so many back surgeries and the complications that came with them because he just couldn’t stop training.
The fact that he never once complained about his injuries and issues with regular mobility speaks volumes about the man. He did what what he set out to do and did so, arguably, in one of the most competitive eras in the sport.
Mr he fact that he was drug free until his offseason prep for 1996 is astounding.
I can’t help but wonder if Flex or Levrone ever regret teaching him about the edge he could gain using PED’s
As an aside, if you want to laugh your ass off, look up Kevin Lecrone’s Ronnie impersonation. It is almost TOO good, and the fact that the story never changes and Ronnie even corroborates it almost verbatim tells me that it is a true story. Levrone almost had a clean sweep of the ‘97 European Grand Prix until Kevin taught Ronnie about the benefits of vodka laced Coffee the night before the last show.
Ronnie never touched alcohol as a rule, but he and Kev shared some along with some pizza if memory serves me correctly and the next night, Ronnie showed up dry as a bone and much more at ease. Then he promptly mopped the floor with every other man on that stage and never looked back again. Simply amazing specimen.
Love how his demeanor changed instantly after Phil's name was dropped. That's real respect.

@@benjisea in shape in body building world is not about cardio, how many laps u swim or how fast u can complete a military obstacle course. It centres solely on muscle conditioning, meaning dryness, tightness, no wrinkling in skin, especially in lower back area, muscle striation, muscle maturity, body fat % obviously, how hard do u look. The 2019 line up, with the exception of Dex look Hella soft. So thats what he means by "in shape".
