    He does a great job of modelling the proper right hand position and technique. Notice how his thumb is in a straight line with his forearm, and he holds the pick with his thumb and the left side of the first joint of his index finger (not the tip of the finger).

    Andy Wood is really someone special. As odd as it seems there are so many similarities between him and Guthrie Govan particularly with regard to their beginnings in acoustic, bluegrass and folk guitar (although Andy is certainly the more accomplished in this area as his discography reveals). Both have extraordinary technical facility, can play virtually anything they hear, have a knowledge of music theory that let's them share what they know verbally, and, most compelling to me, can share/describe it with others in a way that can be understood regardless of skill level. Never patronizing but with sincerity and a love for music that they both so obviously share. Thanks for putting the Andy Woods interviews and lessons together. He is a gem and I have been following both of you for a long time. Please keep it up, thanks so much.

    Oooo - - trying to find that happy place in terms of speed to practice something needs to be carefully considered. LOL
    I'm an intermediate player using a phrase trainer (looper) and I'll start out at 50% speed sometimes and settle out at 70% or so for a few weeks to a month or even longer - If you try to practice something too fast, you're hands will never 'relax' into it and that's what you need. All that 'new-chord/new-lick' awkward tension in your hands has to disappear to develop accuracy and consistency.

    Old tele’s have a 9.5 radius. I have a 12 radius and Andy’s guitar is a 16 radius. Is a 16 easier to play than a 9.5 are 12. Isn’t that close to being a completely flat neck? Just wondering

    • @BrettPapa
      @BrettPapa  Před 2 lety

      Larry I would say doing fast stuff is easier on a flatter radius for sure. 12 is a great sweet spot to get the best of both worlds.
