  • Andy Wood took a meandering path to the hallowed halls of rock guitar Valhalla. Try not to hold this against him, but he didn't even pick up an electric guitar until he was eighteen years old! Before he reached voting age, Andy lived in the world of bluegrass. Something of a mandolin prodigy, Andy spent much of his childhood touring the bluegrass circuit and competing in bluegrass competitions with his grandfather and cousin. His furious flatpicking skills earned him second place in the World Championship Mandolin Contest at the tender age of sixteen.
A world of bluegrass stardom awaited Andy, but at age eighteen he found himself drawn to the dark side by that insidious temptress called rock and roll. After studying the technique of country masters like Albert Lee for a few years, Andy dove right into the world of shred guitar. After absorbing the technique and flair of players like Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani, Andy found himself drawn to the fiery forge of musical competition once again. This time, he won a contest called Guitarmageddon, and he was off to the races. He founded a successful band called Down From Up, put out a couple of incredible solo records, and worked as a sideman for an illustrious list of artists including Scott Stapp, Sebastian Bach, and Rascal Flatts. Over time, he developed a unique voice that combines the techniques and sensibilities of bluegrass with a shredding attitude and a harmonic vocabulary that borrows heavily from fusion.
It's only natural that such an accomplished player would partner with a forward-thinking company like Suhr, and we are pleased to present the delectable fruits of their collaboration: the Andy Wood Signature Modern T. There's a lot going on with this guitar, but let's start with the most eye-popping appointment: the finish! Before the builders at Suhr apply a satin finish to each swamp ash body, they take a blowtorch to the wood! This doesn't really do much of anything to the tone, but it does give these Modern Ts a heaping dose of visual voodoo and rustic mojo!
The Andy Wood Modern T also features a roasted maple neck for better stability and focused, vintage-style resonance. Said neck has Suhr's slim Modern Elliptical profile with a 16" radius, and it is home to 24 jumbo frets (yes, that's right: a 24-fret Tele!). In other words, it's the ultimate shred neck! You can set the action really low because of the flatter radius, which also allows you to bend strings with incredible ease (as an added bonus, the stability of the neck means your shreddin' setup will stay intact for longer).
The genius of this guitar lies in the way the folks at Suhr paired such a modern neck with such traditional styling and electronics. Like the T-style guitars of yore, it has a 3-saddle bridge for extra mass and sustain. The traditional swamp ash body is also home to two Suhr Woodshed single-coils, which have a pleasing mix of modern clarity and vintage warmth (not to mention plenty of snappiness).
The result? A guitar that sounds at home everywhere, whether you're at a country session, a jazz jam, a metal show, or a shred clinic. We're proud to showcase a guitar that melds the sensibilities of Americana and shred into one cohesive aesthetic and sonic package, and we believe it captures the spirit and essence of the mandolin prodigy turned electric guitar warrior, Andy Wood. We know this sah-weet Suhr signature model will provide you with endless hours of inspiration, and we're sure it will prove a steadfast muse on your musical journey.

How did you get 24 frets without moving the neck PU? On my tele the 2nd octave is more or less in the middle of the neck PU. Unless you used a 24.75" scale ....

Take a look at the standard Suhr Classic T, you’ll notice there’s a space between the pickup and the fingerboard, whereas it’s right up against the fingerboard on this one.
