something simple: the commonwealth
Romania is an interesting nation to form, the AI never formed it and as far as i know, it has a good set of national ideas (apart from the fact that through the quest tree you can impale the OPttoman sultan)
You should try to form Israel as Beta Israel
You can form Malaya
You could solve the early requirement of army opinion by just paying your army full maintenance, it counts as you are more stronger because of the total morale of your armies.
You mean THE MOST POPULAR Poland strategy? 🙃
No i am about 87 precent sure he meant kiev into ruthenia
Zlewikk throwing shade at hawk 👀
@@Alex-dp1bk I can do that until he jojns the cool kids club me and Laith are in!
The best way to Poland is not to Poland? That's zen.
Nah no matter what im still gonna form Commonwealth.
Poland CANNOT get a Jagiellon if there is EVER a player on Lithuania, as of any patch before 1.34
was looking for this
Poland CANNOT into space
but red hawk was kiev at the time, not lithuania- so there still might’ve been a chance?
@Imariuz Are you sure? I swear, some years ago played as Lithuania and pushed the event button thinking it would work as Iberrian Wedding for Aragon, but became lesser partner of Poland
@@MrFostarm Maybe on old versions but for now it's impossible
Hey hawk, would you mind setting some kind of end-goal for each of the campaigns in this series?
Ending the campaign by just forming the nation and then going "yup we formed it, gg!" kinda is anticlimactic since you don't get to do any of the stuff you formed the nation for.
Like, the reason you form Prussia is to make prussian space marines, the reason you form ruthenia is to make use of the Tsardom government in central europe, but you just end the game without actually making use of those things.
It'd be a lot more fun if once forming the nation you declared one final goal that makes use of what makes the formable special
On this one a full war against Muscovy to claim the True Tsardom title before he forms Russia would have been a cool end game goal. I think usually a final (difficult) war could be a nice goal, even if he loses.
I actually would love to see some game ruining losing wars after proping up a nation like this one.
Shoulda released as Zaporozhie, they get a nice unique government form.
Came here for this exact comment, i have just started a Zaporozje game with this intention a couple days ago
I think Zaporozhie starts with Ruthenian culture. Would be more accurate to form Ruthenia with them.
Also, cossacks go brrrr
Yah! The unique Republican government and events are great, but EU4 is horrendous with Cossacks and Zaporozhye.
1. The correct name of the Land of the Zaporizhzhya Grassroots Army is important since the republic is militacratic (like Starship Troopers Heinlein)
You have almost no rights until you are in the army, not a monk or higher, or not the daughter or wife of a Cossack and sometimes deals of exclusion to merchants (money decides everything), craftsmen, scientists and poets expanding their rights.. Sometimes there were exceptions. There is such a word Grechkasy (a person who sows buckwheat), the meaning is not that farmers were despised, many Cossacks were farmers, but they had to learn how to use weapons.
2. Although the republican form is true, before the hetmans there were otamans (not connected with the Ottomans in any way) and the Rada, Otaman is a dictator for the duration of the war, Hetman is a dictator for life. Parliament-Rada, Chorna Rada (Black Rada) is a general gathering for a referendum, the Black Rada could replace the Hetman or pass a law that the Rada could not accept. Moreover, the republican form is called Sich Rada in the game but does not give a parliament.
We need a parliament at least to meet the real prototype.
3. The Cossacks never had a strong cavalry, the strength was in 1 Fleet, which allowed them to plunder the entire Black Sea and Azov coast going down the Dnieper even when there was no access to the sea, but in EU4 the rivers are not navigable 2 Infantry that is motivated and trained to get rights 3 Artillery, and the cavalry has always been easy to scout.
The 4th tech group horde is generally an insult, and again, because of the bonuses for cavalry, it is not historical. The Cossacks had huge problems with the cavalry, since it is very expensive to maintain a war horse and very impractical for a sea voyage, and in peacetime it will not work to plow a war horse. And on a plowing horse it will not come out to fight. Therefore, they plowed on bulls, and the war horse was like a motorcycle now in life and in the war. In life for show-offs, and in war for scouts who explore the path of the army.
5 In fact, the Cossacks are an Orthodox knightly order, the coat of arms is literally (Knight with rifle) And we have hospitallers who rob the coast, which prevented the Cossacks from doing the same.
PS In general, it hurts to play for them because it's a hard start
and knowing the history of the Cossacks, it is very unpleasant to realize how they are implemented in the game. But if you want to recreate Rus, this is probably the right way
Sic Rada baby!!!
Коли я намагався створити Рутенію, це вийшло на диво легко, зважаючи на те, шо я був це зовсім зеленим у Європі Универсаліс
Forming Ruthenia from scratch in the game seriously gives you main character vibes haha
14:29 you were really going for the modern Ukraine borders there lmao.
Crimea:(
I think I'd be cool if you spun a wheel with all formable nation for the video
I’ll do that next time
Since we have A to Z, and formables, can you bear the last of the Hoky Trinity that is non-exist nations?(i.e. nations that is exist only as cores in 1444 or exist after 1444)
there's a surprising amount of releasable tags, even if we don't count playing as every single Chinese culture tag ... but I hope someone will do it, perhaps someone other than Red Hawk
It has to be done
So much content🤤
I am so glad you are taking a break from guides to concentrate on more fun content now! I feel like this is such a good formula for your channel - do the guides when a new update comes out, then once the next update comes around (if that even happens) go back to primarily this stuff. Honestly I really like NF & A-Z, so I hope those will continue to be your main focus! I've been watching since #1, and typically I get bored with long series - but let me tell you, the series is aging like fine wine. One of those "season 2 is even better than season 1" sorta deals. Anyways - I hope you get to 100k, you really deserve it! Cheers!
0:15 love that excited slowly zooming to the location part
Greeting from Ukraine! I usually pick Zaporozhie to form Ruthenia. It’s really fun to play. Russian Principality is something I’m not gonna choose ever again.
Locked Duchy tier💀
Why?
@@anttet Until your form Russia :-)
I meant Ruthenia, you become a Tsardom then
I actually formed Ruthenia as Bohemia, very fun run
Ruthenia (Ukraine) being created with the help of Muscovy (Russia) is very ironic today.
Russian, Byelorussian, and Ukrainian national identities all derive from the medieval Rus. They relate to each other in ways very similar to Spanish and Portuguese, or English and Scottish. Not at all the same nation today, but once far more similar.
@@p00bixPlease stop spreading this myth. Rus' its only our country (Ukrainian). Look at the borders of the Kingdom Rus'(Ruthenia), lol
@@prutenb6274 Russian language didn't exactly start as a variety of Mongol lol. Nor were Novgorod and Moscow built by non-Rus people. The Ukrainian identity developed very gradually between around 1300 and 1800 as a result of growing cultural, political, and linguistic changes, among the Rus' speaking people who lived in the southwestern areas of the original Rus' lands with heavier Tatar and later Cossack influence, and which eventually got absorbed by the Commonwealth.
The Russian identity gradually emerged during the same timeframe.
@@p00bix this is a myth. Russians weren't even slavs. In Moscow slavic language replaced finno-ugric languages with introduction of orthodox religion. And that's a proven fact using the geographic names around Moscow. The first Muscovite claim for Ruthenan legacy was made in 1721 by taking name of russia. It had nothing to do with ruthenia before.
@@vasylkonstantinov5246 Don't know what wacky alternate history they're teaching in Transnistria or whatever, but its so hilarious divorced from reality that I see no use continuing the conversation.
Noice! I wish Ruthenia and its culture had more flavour though, like historic Hetmanate in 1648
EU4 Hetmanate even has its own mechanics but few even know that is a thing lol
Also it's kind of stupid that Ruthenian culture uses Russian namelists with imperial russian names tbh
Atleast they are called Ruthenian and not Little Russians or something. *Cries in **-Byelorussian-** Belarusian*
@@eid8fkebe7f27ejdjdjduyhsvqhwu2 haha exactly thought of that too
I mean like, really, can't they hire someone from Ukraine to get the names right?
@@OrkosUA I am not sure that at that time the names were that different though. In Kievian Rus the rurlers where even from same dynasty that in early days of Russia and in all times when Muscovites existed.
Don't have idea how names evolved there in XV century but they were probably mostly similar outside of Cossacks.
@@AAAAAA-jj4mr other countries use their modern native names
Didn't I just say I was looking forward to Ruthenia last video? Let's freaking go!
I just wish the devs would change the localization of Kiev to its proper name of Kyiv. I've done it myself anyway, but it's annoying having to do it every time I uninstall the game and re-install it.
it probably was still pronounced kiev in the 14th/15th century. the split with other rus people was far less significant than today. Ruthenian and Ukrainian came into it's own in the 1500s and beyond. the leaders of any kiev or ruthenia would have spoke largely the same language as moscovy in eu4's early period.
They've changed it in CK3 so maybe they'll change it as well in EU, especially with the new patch concerning Poland and Lithuania as well.
@@obliviondoctor3857 no it's not true. there were many dialects of rus language - polotsk, galich-volynian, kyiv, etc. only church language was the same
Kiev is a proper name, kyiv has no sence + it looks ugly
11:19 they want your yellow province in Moldavia, which is why they are hostile towards you. It happened to me while I was playing as Sirhind. Jaunpur marked Delhi, a province I owned, as yellow and that automatically turned them hostile towards me.
2:47 "Oh boy, this is gonna be painful..."
Nice, so it's gonna be a wonderful vid!
:D
"Oh boy, this is gonna be painful..." This is how the history of Ukraine looks like, a very accurate description of the whole history after the first burning of Kyiv.
You said Kiev (which should be Kyiv at least in written form) is the strongest nation out of all releasable as vassals, but... You need to try Zaporozhie (or however it's transliterated, i'm not sure, it's also not so right). This nation has unique government type "Sich Rada", which is Republic, and few other mechanics which are pretty interesting. Recommend you to try it out. Maybe, if I'm not mistaken, you can even raze provinces as Zaporozhie, but I'm not sure)
yes Zaporuzhie can become a vassal of Duchy
>should be Kyiv at least in written form
Why?
he said everyhting right, it's Kiev, not Kyiv
@@user-xh7wg6yn5o And you are not "Mikailъ Drozdovskiy", you are "Mykhailo Drizd"
@@queingofmusic330 what the hell are you talking about
Mikhail is the right form of its name
Drozdovski is a surname that cannot be changed and probably has polish roots
I did a Kiev run into Ruthenia. It was one of the most fun games I had in the game.
Those end borders do be smooth tho
Lithuania has one of the most satisfying mission trees, with PU opportunities over both Poland AND Muscovy/Russia.
Rum would be a nice nation to see since they get the Ottoman mission tree now
the historical way of forming ruthenia would be to go through the cossack disaster and form the Zaporizhian Hetmanate and then form ruthenia that way
historical way is being the Prince of Galiych-Volynia who was recognized as king by Pope.
I think if it had an achievement or two, it would be more popular in single player
@The Red Hawk Kyiv, not Kiev. Kiev is soviet-russian name of our great capital! Thank you for the content really interesting. Like subscribe etc :)
It’s clearly Kiev on the map bro
Киев есть Киев а не Кыив
When the new patch and DLC drops could you do a Teutons guide? Since you can no longer just join the HRE to expand there and avoid getting eaten by Poland.
Yuan would be a cool one to see next, show off some Asian formables
i formed it once by culture shifting as lithuania. kiev is fun though!
I’ve actually seen AI form Ruthenia as Byzantium idk what country it was though but it must’ve been moldova because that country was always green and ruthenia went revolutionary just to add more insanity to my campaign
Edit: Japan was also british
So Greece and the recreation of Alexander's the great kingdom incoming im these series? Maybe? Pls
Zaporozhie is a cav based nation that would have done pretty well in this area I think.
Please continue the "what if" series tbh
so you played as ukraine?
In fact it is the same thing.
I just did a Lithuania>Poland>ruthenia run and it was so much fun
NFT: Nation Forming Time
3:29 to my knowledge this is the one and only time you've correctly pronounced Chernigov, in every single other video I've seen you say it like it's spelled Cheringov
ngl everytime I watch this game it seems so easy. I mean in less than 50 years you expanded from 6 provinces to almost all of Ukraine, plus stuff in the west
Oof. And here I am getting my ass kicked left to right six ways til Sunday
What about releasable nations with unique ideas?
Next please form "Shan States"
Another potential series is "one of every generic"
cant wait for hawk to form malaya thats gonna be tedious as hell... especially its in maritime south east asia :D
honestly lithuania is fun if a bit bland. the uncommonwealth was a nice lil achieve to get though

It's depressing the ways that this episode has actually become relevant to current events.
Is it? Not in my games.
hey im new to eu4 and i played as Portugal and i gto 1000k gold is that normal?
Poor Moldava...they suffered so much :( Can't wait for their turn to shine in Red Hawk's channel.
Westfalia and Aksum are rarer in my opinion.
15:34 Did you ally Circassia?
Can't you feed the bears with something other than your cats?
No :(
Putin be forming that formable IRL soon!
just yesterday i wondered if there was an "ukraine" formable in eu4 but was too lazy to look it up lol
Sokoto exists ...
I am just disappointed that he didn't start as Hungary
Save the cat!
call this the Ukraine stratagy.
When I heard him say "Kiev" i was instantly disappointed because I wantes to see a pro Zaphorzie game.
Lithuania was the nation I got the "That's a Strong Dutchy" achievment as well as the one where you form the Commonwealth as them.
Also the Marsh achievement! 🙂They have lots of swamps.

This was basically the Second Kievan Rus, but thiccer.
22:22 what's up with the dev?
Just a bug because a month didn’t tick after I formed Ruthenia, so the list didn’t refresh
sorry im late mr hawk
AGH I WISH SOMEONE WOULD DO RYAZAN TO RUTHENIA WITH ME GODDANGIT, it's so hard for me and I'd like pointers, I'm choosing Ryazan because the Russian principalities have flavor for Ruthenia but EVERYONE CHOOSES LITHUANIA (sad lonely music plays)
Form Aotearoa New Zealand :)
Here are some ideas:
Form Egypt as Florence. Show us how to get that achievement.
Form Arabia ar arabian tribal nation for another achievement.
Form Khalkha, Khoshuud and Zhungar.
Form France... after starting as France.
What's the point of telling you what the next nation is I'd like to see formed if you're going to use a random number generator anyway? Pretty blatant engagement bait (which will I'll bit into this one time)
Is it possible to form a horde Ruthenia from Zaphorozia? That sounds like a sweet campaign.
Yes, it is possible to form Ruthenia from Zaporozhia.

This is one of the reasons why the war between Ukraine and Russia breaks my heart. They shouldn't be fighting. Imagine if slavs worked together instead of against each other, they could steal everything in Poland before weekend was over.
