  • This 1969 Dodge Charger has been dormant for over 20 years, and today we take it to a new home. It's an SE model with power steering, power brakes, A/C, and even power windows! It was metallic blue with a black vinyl top and blue interior. The engine in it is not original, but it is a factory 383 car. If you have any questions or want to see anything on the car feel free to ask!

      sorry guys, but 20 years of sitting outside...it's in good shape. For example, rear windows on these were notorious for leaking water into the trunk, and that gas tank would be on the ground by now. The rear leaf springs? they would have busted loose, since designed to hold up the car's weight, and poked thru the floors.
      As for the cost to restore it...yeah, nearly ALL cars cost more to restore :) but a charger like this is worth dough, hollywood would grab one of these just to put in a roll cage and send it jumping in a F&F movie. the fact this is an SE and optioned, it's worth taking to a pro who can put floors into a unibody car and have it still come out straight.
      i'd hate to think what good raw material you guys are cutting up, thinking it's too far gone. sometimes we think if we can't accomplish something, that makes it impossible.

      It's not that bad...considering a used front intact grille on these is over a grand. Body wise? I could show you some real horror pics...a '67 Mustang with a beautiful paint job that a customer came by the shop with all proud. The rear quarters were *riveted* on. Yes...underneath that *beautifuly* paint job LOL. Oh and the frame was previously buckled and heated and what looked like *sledgehammered* back into some sort of shape and was twisted LOL. I guess no one got underneath the car at any point recently.

      ***** At what, the Mustang this poor girl brought in or the Charger?! The Mustang had a happy ending... ;) Once we showed her what we found she was willing to find both rear quarters and my Bro' heated up and straightened/fixed the frame on a Blackhawk. Car looked like new when it left the shop and she couldn't be happier. She still sends us Christmas cards LOL. Even if we lost money I just couldn't see her getting screwed over like that as the car had relatively low miles, a nice original interior, etc. If I find pics i'll post 'em...

    • @steveidxp
      @steveidxp Před 8 lety +6

      It's actually not too bad. I've done *waaay* worse. So the interior has to be stripped and the floors re-done (the interior was completely coming out anyway as it was ....just totally wrong). They sell the entire replacement floor-pans for these in one piece. Would you believe one of the most expensive pieces to restore/replace on these is....the grille?! Don't believe me then look it up. I'd seriously get a 383 and an original 727 torque-flight transmission and run with it. And have plenty of black primer ready.....LOL....

      Yeah...I don't get it. Pretty much all of the classics we get we rip down to the bare bones (frame or unibody) and build it back up anyway. I love watching these various "classic car restoration" shows and they flip out when they see a rust spot the size of a quarter. Really girls? Pull up your panty hose and fix and patch the damn thing. Don't squirt out your Nuva Ring. What's with all the drama? Gotta be a TV thing. Getting to upgrade the brakes, suspension, etc. A labor of love......

    This is great. I love when people find these cars out in a field or in the back of a barn buried under boxes or covered in weeds and moss, and they take it home and clean it out and start the restoration work on it. These cars are a major part of American Automobile history and it's very important that we preserve them and restore them or atleast make it so theey are still around in another 30-40-50 years from now. To me its kind of like adopting an abused or neglected animal. It deserves a new home with an owner that will take good care of it and make it right again. Good luck with whatever you do to it. Mopar Guy 4 LIFE, over and out!!

      Chris Servoss theres a book i read at school, years ago, by nicholas fisk, wheelie on the stars, its set hundreds of years in the future, when all gasoline and other internal combustion motors have been outlawed for many many decades, so youngsters growing up will never experience these american legends, .....then a bunch of kids find a ancient 70s 2 stroke dirtbike, in a cave, something like a maico or yz400 or similar beast, and they manage to get it running, for one epic blast .......

      Hey....there's thing that pops up and happens unexpectedly. It's called *life*. I had to hide my old "High School Rides" from friends, most family and definitely where I was living as ...I wouldn't have them today. No way. My family blows so bad if they thought they could make $50 profit...they would've been gone in '83. They didn't even know about them LOL. I had to put myself through school, get a job, buy a house w/ a garage then suffered a serious back injury while on vacation overseas. The fact I still have them is nothing short of a miracle. Thank GOD I have some decent friends who let me store them. Now, all these years later...I get to take them apart and give them the attention they deserve. Well worth the wait.... So yeah, that's how things like this can happen.

My Aunt/Uncle hid it for me in their garage (as long as I "cleaned it out" LOL) so they had it for 35 years. My Uncle started it faithfully every Month and drove it front a few feet, and back a few feet. Without fail. I can't owe them enough. I'm *finally* just getting to this car now. The paint is faded and it needs a grille and a front fender...

They always do there research and say it has 200 HP. But it actually has over 700 HP, this is not a engine swap or a replacement. This is the original engine and it's age is around 43 years old as well as the entire car. Forgot to mention it's the Formula 400 series. Drives like a dream come true. Which it is....

Cars are made to fall apart now days made to be replaced companies learned hoe to "properly build" a car now so you have no choice to replace that car you bought 20 years ago. and chances are in the next 20 years heavy fines will be placed on those that want to still drive that old muscle car for the environments sake

    • @k.c.slawncare6046
      @k.c.slawncare6046 Před 8 lety +8

      People need to think about it. Those cars were not classics when they were sold and/or abandoned. Many people sold, and *Scrapped* these cars when they were having issues, or the owner couldn't afford it. Think about this, after the mid 70's fuel crisis, how many people do you think sold their high performance cars? Tons of people did. Some people even had them crushed and scrapped. My dad had to sell his 1972 Mustang Mach 1 sometime in the late 70's, or in the 80's (He never told me what year) due to the fuel crisis. God only knows where that machine is now.

    • @VintageCars999
      @VintageCars999 Před 8 lety +1

      Maybe they were not classics and it's most likely possible that the fuel crisis was a factor i just couldn't see people abandoning their cars, they'd sell them probably or they were abandoned because they couldn't sell them.
      It's just that if i am going to buy a car, i want to keep it for a very long time (maintain it well) or sell it to someone who will do the same. But then sports/classic cars also depreciate too and people's mindset is if they can't get any money out of it, they waited too long. Any high performance car during the fuel crisis would have depreciated regardless of the mileage, year or well maintained.
