The Elder Scrolls Lore: Meridia

- Meridia is the Daedric Prince of Infinite Energies, such as the energies of Light and Life. Meridia has an immense hatred for all things undead, such as zombies, vampires, and draugr. Meridia isn't considered evil by most mortals, although this video discusses that debate, along with her origins, her morals, and the history of Nirn surrounding her.

A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE FUCKING BEACON
lmao hey guys sorry I had to get the beaten joke out of the way. But anyway, I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday this year! I will try to upload my 20k special before the New Year, but if not, I will see you in 2020! I'm unsure why I did Meridia for a Christmas special of sorts, I suppose Holy Angels and Light and stuff kinda reminded me of Christmas a bit. But again, thank you all for a wonderful year of 2019 for my channel, I'm excited to be working on further projects of the channel! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
🎉🎉🦌🎄🌟🌟🎅🌟🎅🌟🌟🎄🦌🎉🎉
I was going to ask where that line was in the video. Thank you for this vid. I love these lore videos.
Omg lolol I was gonna comment the same thing but my fav Lore master stole it 😂
Nice video 👍👍
When first time playing Skyrim and hear Meredia's voice I thought I I had a ghost at the house and almost shit in my pants before I understand that it's from TV...that fucking..becan 😆😆
LISTEN. HEAR ME AND OBEY.
Do the dark elves next please ❤️❤️
I remember my character being a Vampire. Meridia still accepted aid and rewarded him. Like come on Bethesda....
1. You are the Dragonborn
2. She has few followers and was desperate.
@@janedoe4929 no one is _that_ desperate
Jane Doe 1. being Dragonborn means nothing to the daedra.
2.no daedra or aedra change their views due to desperatemess.
Imagine Molag Bal being submissive and not dominating because he is desperate
Bugthesda is just bad at writing and choices.
I recommend playing with requiem
They could have simply made it so that a vampire character would never find the beacon but then vsmpire players would have complained.
I feel like if you are a vampire and she gives you Dawnbreaker she is just taunting you.
"Here is a weapon that will make undead explode when it slays one. What is that? Do you think it will affect you? Nooooooo you worry to much bro, come on try it."
@@chaoticgoodcreations947 she probabley wants the vampiric dragon born to commit seppuku with the sword lol.
Honestly how hard would it have been to program an alternative (Anything!) interaction there...
She should deny you the Quest, Vampires are undead in TES so it would make sense.
Maybe she's ok with a vampire wielding it if it means they'll kill many more undead with it, which chances are you will since it looks cool asf.
Godamnit Meridia I don't want your swor- Oh? Its lady of Scrolls? I never thought I'd be happy with Meridia popping out of nowhere. Huh.
Your voice is so soothing, I hope this doesn't sound as weird as it does when I'm typing it out
I know what you mean Joshua. Lady's voice is very calming. I binged most of her vids just to relax to a soothing voice
It doesn't, believe me, her voice could LITERALLY put me to sleep at night, it is so soothing and mesmerizing.
I was thinking the same thing. In fact I dozed off during the Mara vid
It reminds me of those old Holders creepy pasta videos. I love it.
Its unique and draws atention.
I'd have to say that if the world of the Elder Scrolls was actually real I could see Meridia and Azura being two I would actually support as being a follower.
Same
screw that
just go throw your self at molag bal non stop (like vivec, and possibly tiber septim / hjalti, though its unclear whether he got chim from his deal with molag bal, or if vivec taught him it, or he got it some other way we're unaware of) and then you can get chim and just do your own thing. Maybe try to make good with dagon and get his razor, use it do perform some nymic surgery while your at it.
Though understandably depending on where you live, your race/culture, etc would probably make it a lot harder to just do that since you would need to already be dabbling in the occult and probably fairly smart, and able to gather all that information and whatnot.
Though its not like a fuckton of super talented people, especially mages don't exist.
not to mention elves already have a natural life span of atleast a few hundred years, plus numerous ways to live longer (restoration magic, necromancy/lichdom, vampirism, pull some neraverine shit and get corprus but have all the physical negative side effects cured / not going batshit insane and becoming a giant tumor)
tldr : fuck the daedra and aedra, become your own god lol
Azura I would like to Blue ball by messing with Fate and making it unpredictable, and for Meridia herself I would seek to bang.
Sanguine Squad, represent!
Think I would go with malacath.
@@TOUGHEYES Sounds like a helluva task to get in bed with the lady of infinite energies. Pretty sure you'd have to become the most badass undead hunter in the world and then ransom your services for a night with her or something. That's pretty fittingly -manipulative- Sanguinic I guess, but you might not survive. Seems like she might make you one of her purified. You better bring protection.
Meridia is the Daedric Prince I find myself gravitate towards the most, because she's one of the few not considered to be fully evil, unlike the other Princes. I honestly find her very much tolerable.
Not only that, her artifact, the Dawnbreaker, is such a freaking cool sword to wield!
I do not even consider her a real daedra in a similar way as Malachat isn't a real daedra. The count as daedra only because that they do not count as aedra.
She helped with the enslavement of men by the Ayleids. She can eat some divine shit.
@@6432spencer she didn't help. Where is your proof?
@@ghoststride6536 Ayleids? Alessian Rebelion? Ever played Knights of the nine? Her Aurorian daedra participated as foot soldiers in service to the Ayleid empire. Umaril was half Aurorian half elf. The Ayleids worshiped her intensely. Go watch Lady of scrolls vidoes on these subjects. There is a massive amount of information on this.
Google Umaril the unfetherd, Saying there is no proof of her supporting them is silly if you've played more than Skyrim. We played through her being an asshole. The start of the knights of the nine DLC is investigating a temple to Dibella that HER daedra slaughtered everyone and painted with blood all over the place. Just cause she gave you a pretty sword for killing necromancer dosent make her an ally of the races of men.
@@6432spencer Now hold on just a freaking minute, Meridia is a Magna Ge she is practically a lesser divine or an angle! Just because she helped he Ayleids doesn't mean she is evil! Look at who Pelinal Whitestrake was, HE WAS FREAKING LORKHAN!!!! Lorkhan is literally the embodiment of all things evil, who would you help, the Ayleids were the lesser evil! I would have done EXACTLY what Meridia did, THEN I would have gone and helped the race of man! As for the temple of Dibella, Dibella is LITERALLY the slut of the Divines, excuse my language but it is true. I don't trust Dibella's methods or ways of workings, all of the other Divines are much more distinguished and respectable acting!
"This suggests that somehow Meridia can change the speed at which time moves" Whoever came up with that lore deserves a raise, even if its 20 years too late.
*a new hand touches the beac...* Sorry, I could resist. 😂 Love your videos! 💜
LISTEN! HEAR ME AND OBEY!
My character in ESO to Meridia: so am I just a pawn to be used for your game!?!?
Meridia: Yes!
My character and me: 😭😭😭
My eso character: hi meridia
Meridia: omg why is a necromancer a vestige
"Reality is a game mortal. Either learn to play or become one of the pieces meant to be sacrificed"
Nice
@Imperial Knowledge good enough for a Collaboration?
She’s one of the best daedric princes and gives the best weapon. Also discord squad here. Keep up the great work Lady
Dawnbreaker is always my weapon of choice in Skyrim. I always questioned why Meridia would be a Daedra instead of an Aedra. I guess because she only wants light to prevail on Nirn instead of death and darkness? I would like to see TES6 give more depth into Meridia as a villian.
She is a Aedra. There’s no lore that specifies if she transformed into a daedra. If anything, you can say she’s a “dark” (not in the literal sense) aedra.
Daedra/Aedra doesn't mean evil/good- the Daedra were Et'Ada tricked by Lorkhan into giving a part of themselves to make Mundus, Daedra were the Et'Ada that didn't. Some of the Aedra were fine, some faded away, some became the races of Nirn. Meridia is a Daedra.
@@AlextheGreat647 she didn't 'transform' into a Daedric prince- she _is_ a Daedric prince. Aedra and Daedra are _literally_ the same thing- they're both Et'Ada. The only difference is that the Aedra are weaker and bound to Mundus, while the Daedra are at their full capacity and free to do as they please within their own little realm of oblivion.
Trinamac became Malacath who is a daedric prince.
Watch the video first before scrolling down the comment section you imbeciles. 🙃
On my last playthrough of skyrim I tried my hand at a Dunmer merchant who was down on his luck after a series of unfortunate events. But a few character arcs later, he had turned into a Witcher/monster hunter in service to Meridia, wielding the mighty dawn breaker and with the aid of several enchanted masks crafted in honor of "the purified", scoured all of skyrim for the artifacts of oblivion so as to keep them safely guarded and locked away from evil hands.
Elves are not a particular favorite of mine but I gotta admit, this one grew on me.
Wow that’s a pretty cool/wild character arc. That’s really cool
Merida is just neutral. She will tell you quick in ESO that she does what she wants to do and thinks is best regardless how it looks. You may persuade her in favor but never think yourself strong enough to tell her what she should do. To me, she does "evil" things to ultimately have good win. A grey jedi if you will.
InkMouse Gaming in fairness “does what they want to do and think is best regardless of how it looks” describes all Daedric Princes but I agree, she is much more predisposed towards order than the rest of the Daedra, suggesting she takes after Anu more than Padome much like the Aedra. Shes much more a fallen divine than she is a Daedra imo
There is no “neutral” good inasmuch as there is a “bland”flavorful.
Meridia isn't wholly "evil", but I consider her on the D&D spectrum of Chaotic Good. Personally I do think she cares for humanity insofar as she cares for all life and the living. But she detests the evil and corruption of the undead, which is a power that seeps from coldharbor itself.
My theory is that Meridia detests Molag Bal much much more than any undead, being the direct cause of many undead armies And the corruption of life. She will do anything to stop Molag Bal and sometimes uses others to those means.
I don't think she isn't worthy of trust, but I think that trust should be taken with a huuuuuge grain of salt. I think she definitely has very good intentions, but just like all things her power removes her from the true feelings of being mortal. Not being mortal herself, she can never truly understand or empathize with them, and I think through all I've read about her, she doesn't seem the type to destroy life simply because it's her whim like most daedric princes.
I agree with you for the most part. You can never trust Meridia beyond the objective of "kill undead and any related creatures". While she hates undead, she craves power and worship like the rest of the Daedric Princes of Oblivion. Why was she cast out of Aetherius in the first place? For the exact reason of consorting with the dark. Why was she in Aetherius? Because she, like the rest of the Magna Gee, did not care for creation if it meant losing all of their power. If worship grants her power, then of course she'll favour whichever race will give her worship.
@@adarshkamoda9183 I agree. Too me she reminds me of someone that would/will make the hard choices in order to get the better end results. Be it whatever method you can think of. Just look at the hollow city for example. She felt sympathetic to the people that lived there and didn’t want to see them get in harms way, but also knew that the city would be a tool to harm Molag bal in a way where he’ll have a constant reminder of how he can’t touch that city in his own realm.
Meridia Is my favorite! I'm so excited to listen to this.
I totally feel the same way that you do, Meridia is one of the best Daedric Princes!
I love all the art you include in these lore videos. Something beautiful to look at while I learn.
Cute profile picture!
@@Sabrina1999B Thank you.
The line about Merid-Nunda compressing the Dragon makes a weird amount of sense. Meridia is linked to the visible spectrum of light (and most Magna-Ge are thought of in terms of colors and light, as far as I remember) where on one end we have longwave red and on the other - shortwave blue/violet. It might be linked to blueshifted and redshifted stellar objects, though we don't know if light of Aurbis behaves in a way remotely similar to ours or not, and of course faraway stars and galaxies are completely different in nature, being holes in Oblivion and all. The speed of light and time being stopped for anything travelling that fast, time dilation as a phenomenon, might be connected to more ancient aspects of Meridia somehow. She can change the speed at which time moves, because she *corresponds* to the fundamental concept that writes time dilation into the equation of the world. But don't take it too seriously, it's just ramblings.
And... she's not really my favorite Daedra. I just don't trust her. She is incredibly interesting, one of the most interesting Daedra for sure, and appreciation for all that's living and light is good and all but she seems to desire rigid, absolute control. This is where I tend to trust Khajiit mythology.
always such excellent videos and this one is no exception. great art work, great narration, very informative and entertaining. Thank you for the amount of effort you put into these videos, you've made a fan of me.
"A Beautiful Song", from Nier Automata was a great selection representing Meridia. When you described her it reminded me of a carnivorous plant. She lures you in with promises of glitz and glamour. By time you realized you're trapped it's already too late.
Meridia is quite a complex Daedric Prince. On one hand, she despises the undead and her followers hunt down undead and is considered "Daedric Prince of light" along with her champion helping mortals fight Molag Bal's Planemeld yet on the other hand she aided The Aylied's,Umaril more specifically and helped them supress The Nede's and fight Alessia's slave rebellion. If you ask me,she isn't good or evil but more like a chaotic neutral being that's only really intrested in mortal affairs for own goals.
I like Azura the best of all the Aedra/Daedra. Also, I enjoy your knowledge on the Elder Scrolls. You have earned yourself a sub.
Omg it's such a blessing finding this channel! Love your content
I just clicked but gotta get this out of the way: 🌟HELL YESSSSSS 40 MINUTES OF MY FAVORITE PRINCE!!!🌟 Can’t wait for it to take me a full hour to watch this since I’m gonna be stopping constantly to ooh and ahh over the artwork!!!
Ok now to actually watch the video 🤓
Another awesome video. You are really good at choosing music that fits in with the topic.
One of my favorite Deadric Princes. Thank you for a well presented gift for us to enjoy! Very good
Happy New year and holidays my lady of the scrolls!
The Nier soundtrack had me feeling this video !!!
@@leozafirov8209 It has both
Just wanted to say I enjoy your videos, your voice is soothing to listen to.
yet another great video with great images and music, as usual your dialogue feels more like a story rather than some channels lecture approach
I like to think that Meridia has become corrupted in some way by ending up with the Daedra. That she was a good goddess, but that being in close contact with the Daedra, she’s become corrupted by the darkness, which fuels her more sinister actions. She retains her good side, her hatred of the undead, but her methods have a dark side to them, which, perhaps, is exactly why she was trapped in Oblivion and the longer she remains among them, the more corrupted she becomes by the darkness. It could explain a lot about her, really.
She would hate the resurrection just like Arkay would. There is no goodness in the affirmation and integration of death into the scheme of being, unless you are sick. She does hate hate undeath because it mock life; she hates undeath because ismocks death.
Whoever says, “death has a purpose,” or “death is not evil,” or “death is natural,” loves power and pain and durance, and so hates true sweetness.
With death vanquished, their power is nothing. This is why they love death. This is why the hate the resurrection. Death, overcoming, hypotaxis, time, temporalization, immanation, death: these are all the names of the old order, which all gods uphold. Why does the resurrection threaten the gods? Because they are dead things made from dead flesh. They cannot tolerate the possibility of true life because it dismantles their selfish, petty power. But sweetness is its own appeal. In time they will see.
The terms "Aedra" and "daedra" aren't meant to differentiate between good and evil, just whether or not they had a hand in the creation of Mundus. The eight Divines all participated with Lorkhan in making thr mortal realm, whereas the daedra did not.
@@chesterstevens8870 I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that all the Daedra are a$$holes.
Miss this channel
Always remember that the Dunmer choose to trust Boethiah and Mephala over Meridia. If that doesn't display that Meridia isn't as good as she appears, I don't know what will.
I think it just shows the majority of dark elves are corrupt and evil.
She is good and all except that you become a mindless slave when you are purified :/
They like murder too much lol my take on meridia aiding the aelids was her desire for order and wanting to keep safe those who venerated her.
Yes many of them did terrible things, but most of those who seem to have followed her the closest were all about light and order. Helping the loser in a war doesn't necessarily make you the bad guy.
Your voice is so pretty!
Really nice voice. Listenning lore thing to get asleep and your videos are relaxing. Good Job
Very well explained! :) you should do Sanguine next!!
thanks for all the in depth elder scrolls information, you make invaluable content keep it up and thanks for sharing sister comrade another intriguing lore video and I'm so here for that shit solid work!
This lore shall aide me in my story I'm am currently forging. Thank you.
Your vids are so much better than the other vids that discuss elder scrolls
Great music. My compliments to the composer.

Good taste. Sick boss, even sicker music.
Yay im so happy you did this! Meridia is my fav prince!!
Perfect timing! I was planning on making a character on eso tonight who is a soul shriven meridia worshipper :0
great choice of music, Meridia is one of the more intresting deadra if you ask me, also one of my favorite deities.
I just recently found your channel and by God you make the best lore videos. Do you think you can cover Pelinal Whitestrake at some point?
This is nice!! Can't wait for you to do PERYITE!! THE COOLEST DRAGON BRO!!
Welp its after 3am and I can't sleep, time to nerd out learning about Meridia!
Swear this is my favourite lore channel
Impressive presentation. I'm off to grab the golden armour now... :-D I was using light green elf until today...
Keep up the good work, really enjoy your content. Do a lore video on mead 😂
Thanks for the video!
Meridia... Well, i kinda like her for being the counter-part of Molag Bal in ESO, but if you think about this on daedric level it's kind of funny.
I mean, ESO is basically Meridia and Molag Bal, both being brother and sister (same age), who are constantly fighting over their favorite toy and Tamriel is just between both of them like "Have mercy, i beg you!" while constantly being torn from both sides.
Daedric princes. Daedric princes never change...
Another excellent video!
I love all of the videos! Is there any chance you will cover my favorite race the Dunmer?
Meridia is my favorite. And Molag Bal. I use dawn breaker and the mace as my weapons. The sword of light and the mace of darkness. Unbeatable pairing.
I had the same idea. Only I used an ebony sword with a soul trap enchantment. A good opposite for Dawnbreaker. My character only uses these weapons against evil and will always fight for good no matter what.
Meridia: I will send scintillating Aurorans to destroy you
Molag Bal: Scintillating?
Meridia: Yeah
Molag Bal: Nice wh- define that
Meridia: Whats that?
Molag Bal: Define it
Meridia Define what?
Molag Bal: Scintillating
Meridia: You define it
Molag Bal: you define it, you said it
Meridia:....... Tamrielic is not really my strongest subject
Molag Bal: Of course, well i'm glad you said it
Meridia: ._.

The Guardian imagine actually being killable by a mortal.
This comment was once again brought to you by Jyggalag gang
No doubt Akatosh, Jyggalag, Lorkhan and Magnus stand on a pinnacle above the rest of the Et’Ada
@@ethanquirk28 Come to think of it jyggalag kinda seems like the good guy being the daedric prince of order he would be naturally opposed to daedra like mehrunes dagon and people like bandits or corrupt politicians
The Guardian thats the only thing though, he’s popularly regarded as the Prince of Order but personally I think his sphere is much closer to logic, as in everything must work according to his exact logic and thats how he can see into the future, he can logically rationalise what the outcome to every situation is going to be and he works to move the world to a more exact and straight forward form of logic.
That being said, chaos isn’t just a series of random events or choices, it is a break from the natural order. In the end this purely logical way of thinking and a distain for anything that doesn’t follow it is in itself in direct conflict with nature. In Jyggalag’s world there is only order born by the proper logic. There is no chance, there is no surprise, there is no butterfly effect or wishes or dreams. There is no room for irrationality, born in the hearts of men through emotions such as love and hate and hope and grief, so in Jyggalag’s perfect order there will be a war against the irrational, unruly, chaotic way the world works.
I think thats why the other Daedra grew to the point of fearing him. They’re beings born of chaos themselves. They enforce themselves upon the world on a sheer whim. A whim is not logical. Its a fleet irrational force, unreliable. A constant strive for change will one day cause them to act against the perfect order that Jyggalag is driven to create. They all know that its only a matter of time before the day he comes for them too.
Very excellent work Lady of Scrolls!
Amazing music choice🔥 that dark souls ost hitting while learning about the daedra😂
Meridia and Azura are my favorite Daedric Princes!
Same, good lore, usually have good questlines, and imo the best daedric artifacts
You are completely correct, Meridia and Azura are the best Daedric Spirits that have EVER existed.
Oh lord, another juicy 40 minute lore video.
Meridia and Malacath are both examples of how mortals can misuse the title "Daedra" though the Daedra themselves do this at times.
tbh i really like Meridia
especially coo o l sord
She DID help the Aeyleids but like... do you expect a deity to NOT help their followers?
I work for belethor at the general goods store.
Dawnbreaker is such a fun sword. Makes all undead go boom
Love this she’s one of the best daedra and the quests for Dawnbreaker and serving Meridia are some of the best to do
I touched that damn crystalline ball more times than I've touched my own. Oh yeah, speaking of Merry X -Mas everybody. God Bless Us Everyone! LOVE YOU @LadyofScrolls✌️😘❤️💯🎄⛄🎁
A video about boethiah would be awesome
I find Gautier's warning a bit uncalled for. After all, Meridia has done more good than evil. Also, Gautier asked for his freedom and Meridia gave it, he is alive and free to do as he wishes, he only has to serve Meridia when she has a task for him. In a sense, Meridia gave Gautier what he asked for, not what he wanted. So, it can be seen as Gautier's fault for asking for a reward with many different ways of being granted, he should have been more specific.
Gautier: I want a Muffin
Meridia: Okay. *Gives him a Muffin*
Gautier: *Gets sick and starts throwing up* "WHAT WAS IN THAT?!?!
Meridia: Poison
Gautier: WHY WOULD YOU. GIVE ME A *POISON* MUFFIN???
Meridia: Well, you didn't say that you DIDN'T want a poison Muffin. You should've been more specific.
That's how it sounds lol
There is no redeeming this no any reason to do so. She deceived him. If your wife asked you to “take care of the kids,” would you drown them in the tub? That’s “what she asked for,” but not what she wanted. Perhaps she should have been more specific? Or perhaps you should have been a beacon of light, and aided your wife. Meridia is, despite her “nature,” the heart of darkness.
Your voice is so soothing. I feel weird saying that.
Just a heads up, a stupid decision by ZOS made it so the timeline for ESO all takes place in 582. So Darien didn't return in 583.
There’s a mod I use on Skyrim if you’re a vampire then dawn breaker will damage you over time if you equip it making it a bit more true to the lore
I always like it when I recognize the song, this is from nier automata! And mannimarco had one winged angel
I think its great the corrupted dawnbreaker is known as duskbringer. I used to name my sword dusk bringer and use the lunar forge enchant.

Oh god yes another episode
Oh dear that nier automata song make me happy everytime I play nier raid in FF14
Meridia is understandably pissed because she got a raw deal.
It's sort of Ironic, Necromancers tend to use the dead as slaves to their will.
Though Meridia does the same but in the opposite, in that it's eternal life but as her puppet.
Woah.did you play the expansion content just to obtain this information.
It would be cool if Miridea'z hatred of the undead waz somehow linked to her being left behind when all the magna gi (butchered, lol) hit warp speed & peaced ☮ out.
She deserves to have a redemption ark in the future elder scrolls lore.
Michael Kirk Briar should come up with a story about Meridia being born as a human vessel and allowing her to understand mortals.
Absolutely not, she already has a origin story
'redemption arc' this isn't a young adult cringefest
No one:
Meridia: Listen, hear me and obey!
All these epic Tales be the end of movies but in Elder Scrolls you move on from one to the next and so on
She's mine favorite Prince she's so fucking cool
the daedric princes in oblivion were so much better protrayed, and their speeches were better than in skyrim. especially meridia.
No , they are exactly the same thing in all Elder Scrolls Games
So wait did Darien just dead when he sacrificed himself to repair the Dawnbreaker or was his soul also destroyed as well as his physical body?
I've always thought of Meridia as TES' version of Lucifer
The closest figure in TES to the Christian conception of Satan is probably Molag Bal actually, with his insatiable desire to steal souls and corrupt the world.
JurzGarz think they mean in regards to the fallen angel aspect
Please do a dark brotherhood video
A new hand goes back in its pocket, thank you very much!
The only pure daedric prince
