When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill and high-stakes party game -- until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
Talk to Me is a 2022 Australian supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou and written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, based on a concept by Daley Pearson. It stars Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio, Marcus Johnson, and Alexandria Steffensen. The film follows a group of teenagers who discover they are able to contact spirits using a mysterious embalmed hand, only for things to go too far.
Talk to Me premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival on 30 October 2022, and was released in Australia on 27 July 2023, by Maslow Entertainment. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, direction, horror sequences, practical effects, sound design and performances, with Sophie Wilde and Joe Bird receiving particular praise. That wasn't her mom. It was the old bloated wet woman she 'let in' from the beginning. That's why she kept getting more decayed, swollen, and wet everytime she saw her. She was having trouble keeping her form. Jade pushed Mia to save her brother, if you slow it down just right you can catch a quick glimpse of it.

From literature we know that demons lie, they want to lure you in. So I believe that the dad was being honest and that Mia’s mom did in fact delete herself. I believe that spirit was NOT Mia’s mom, just an entity playing on her desperation and pain -
Every time we see Mia's mom's ghost she looks more and more like the drowned ghost that Mia let in. That definitely was not her mom.
I believe the same thing. She was never the girl's actual mother, but a demon (or a different ghost) tricking her. It's like what the ex boyfriend said, they can read your thoughts, so they know your deepest, darkest secrets.

It was always the original drowned female spirit who entered her first. That spirit told Riley that a male spirit wanted him (young, pure, innocent). Those two entities tricked Mia into believing that her mother was reaching out to her because they knew that she would let Riley hold on longer because she wanted to speak to her. Then they attack Riley - now the male Spirit gets Riley while the woman is still manipulating Mia. If you die with the spirits inside you - they will have you forever. They needed her to kill Riley to finish what the male spirit wanted. Jade pushed Mia into the street to save Riley - you can see it through the window of the car. Mia's mother's appearance changes throughout the movie because it reverts back to the original drowned spirit whose eye is bulging out. The same spirit that was pulling Riley's eye out too. Mia's ghost walking around the hospital shows us the passage of time. Riley is better and leaving the hospital with his family. Even her father is better but now going home alone, doubly grieved due to the death of his wife and daughter. This was a crazy disturbing movie and yes it was a metaphor for drug use during times of grief and how it can play on your vulnerabilities.
It's crazy how many people don't get that it is the original Bloater. The vocal effects, deteriorating makeup effects...
i also think her dad going in the elevator with the up arrow couldve meant he was going to heaven? but that was just my take on it, id like to believe yours more and that he survived!

@@tiersha5681it’s been confirmed he lived as both him and Riley left the hospital, if he was dead he would have been able to see Mia because they would have both been in limbo in the hospital hallway

It's amazing how a couple of CZcamsrs made this movie on a $4 million dollar budget and it made $90 million at the box office. I love it when smaller passion projects like this get the love they deserve and make it big.
This movie is a better drug PSA than most actual PSA's. Mia is grieving, finds a drug that takes away the pain however briefly and she gets addicted to it. It starts to ruin her life and hurt her friends and instead of abandoning the drug she starts relying on it more and more until it takes her life. Her lying to the moms face " i know you wouldnt do anything to hurt him" when she is planning to stab Riley in the next few minutes is clear as fucking day parallel to how drug addicts treat the people who love them.

Yeah I went in blind had no idea who Rakaraka was but those guys made some mad crazy short films over 10 years on CZcams. This was a favorite horror film in years foreign horror is usually 100 times more original than American stuck in sequel/remake mode

I never noticed how the main girl was holding the “hand” while Rylie was under.. her touching it while he was connected is what brought “her” drowned demon into the mix.
That's what I think. Riley started with Mia's mom, but a new spirit took over when Mia held the hand too.

The secret meaning is addiction. The hand is a drug. And the other commenters are correct, that was never her mom. You can hear the underwater sounds whenever her "mom" talks to her.
That was NEVER that girls mama. The only person who saw her mom was the kid when it was his turn to go that's why he looked shocked and said 'what the fuck....' as he turned to look at Mia.
I think the spirit that was pretending to be Mia's mom was that creepy wet blobby ghost that Mia saw the first time, because each time we saw Mia's 'Mom' she looked wet, like she drowned when we all know that was never her cause of death. Also if you listen closely everytime her 'mom' was around you could hear the faint sound of water.
From the very first time Mia got possessed those ghosts took an interest in that poor boy. He should have never gotten involved in that damn mess.
But what was it with her father then? I don’t understand 😂, was he possessed too? Or was it really her dad?

@@naomifrisart9224 nope! That creepy version of him was just a hallucination to make her believe she was being attacked. So when her father heard her scream and try to help she would attack him. Every hallucation she sees after Riley hurts himself is that spirit messing with her, manipulating her.

The bloated wet lady from the first encounter stayed within side mia because they went over 90 secs and so it stayed with her that’s why you hear the gushing water sounds whenever you see mias mom and why the mom kept looking more decayed and wet it was always the drowned from the first possession manipulating mia all along lol that’s why u see that random lady at 28:33 it’s the drowned before she decayed
Also there are no demons in this movie they were communicating with lost souls in purgatory

I agree with Mellow! That Mia totally manipulated Daniel to have a sleepover after the hospital panic attack. Therefore to get him to play that hand game and probably would have went over time again.
Great reaction y’all !! Loved this ! I watched talk to me like a month ago and enjoyed it. Also I feel it was never her mom it was just the demon using her to get another soul and used her vulnerability to prey on her. It was definitely the best horror movie I’ve seen all year.

I love seeing Mel get viscerally uncomfortable during horror movies 😂😂. I watch them so much I’ve been numb to most of them but Hereditary, the new Pet Cemetery, and Talk To Me are the only movies that made me want to close my eyes. Talk to Me actually had me put the covers to my eyes!
I was in a dark place when i went and saw this, and i didnt expect it to fuck with me as much as it did. Once I got better though I could fully enjoy the movie with my loved ones, but only after getting some long overdue help. I love both of y'all! Keep up the good work!!

This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. It was too gory for my taste, but the actress playing Mia was amazing. The Oscars don't typically nominate horror movies performances, but that chick deserves a nomination!

I have almost taken an overdose of my sleeping tablets by accident before. I went to take a full dose before bed, tossed the tablets into my mouth and reached for my water bottle, then realised I’d already taken a full dose earlier and spat them out in a panic. I’m already on the maximum safe dosage, so if I hadn’t remembered and spat them out, I would have fallen asleep, and my heart would have just stopped in my sleep. Insanely scary moment.

Idc who you are or how close we are...in any situation where it comes to my little siblings, what i say far as their well being goes. Mia had 0 rights to give a say so for her brother, especially since ol girl said no. They already lied to the mom but the consequences are just as extreme when something bad happens to the one job you had. There were some signs before he touched that hand. The spirits chose the one person in the room who didn't touch the hand yet.Mia risked his life and had to give her own in the end.
