    Thank you for this! I've had my 2020 Ridgeline for over a year, I found that part in the glove box, but I didn't even know there was a hole underneath my tailgate that made it vulnerable. I have a locking cover on my bed and I use it to lock up my equipment when I'm not in the truck and I had no idea that someone could unlock my tailgate with the exposed manual release even when the auto locking feature had been enabled. I put it on today and it works perfectly.

    Just purchased a 2022 Ridgeline, with the hard tonneau cover, my lock on the tailgate came preinstalled, I told the dealer, I would figure out the electronics on my own, so thanks for showing how to program the tailgate lock, I had not gotten that far in the owners manual yet.

      Glad they did. Folks around the country still had the cover sitting in their glove compartment. I’ve even had folks order tailgate lock kits just to disassemble the tailgate to find a lock!!!

    Thank you !! We just picked up my new 2023 this morning and I looked in the manual without success, so I googled it. and found your video ! I broke my kneecap about a week ago, so it's going to be at least another week before I know if They'll let me drive. My step daughter went with me to pick up the truck and then she drove it off ! LOL I knew they were going to do that so I wouldn't be driving before I was released by the Doctor, not that I would even do that ! LOL

    Great tip, made me check because I didn't remember seeing one in a bag - it was already installed in my 2020. I wouldn't have known what it was either even if I'd noticed it.

    1:36 I recommend against a pre-assembled cable. That's the truck side cable. The brake controller you buy should have the other half. With two pig tails, you can make smaller holes instead of trying to push through the entire connector.

    Great info!! The bypass cover was not in the glove box of my 2023 RTL and was already installed in the tailgate. Had I not stumbled across this video, I would have remained completely clueless of it's existence. Makes me wonder what else there is, that the dealership failed to inform me of regarding features/functions on my RL?

    Haha, mine was already installed. I noticed it when looking things over and had to figure it out on my own what it was for but at least it was already installed. That is an unacceptable oversight on any dealer that doesn’t install these when they prepare the vehicle for sale.

    So, a PS to my earlier reply. Now that I know what the cap is for, it doesn't fit in the release hole on my 2023! Pretty sure I've got it oriented the right way (there's a "Front->" indication on the inside of the cap). The edge of the cap toward the open end of the tailgate has a channel that has to be fitted into the hole first, but I can only wiggle it in only so far before it stops - it then doesn't leave enough room for the opposite side of the cap to go in the hole no how matter how much I push and wiggle. There's a small foam rubber piece around the side of the cap with the groove that I gather is there to snug it in and/or reduce rattle that might be part of the problem. Don't want to force it any more than I have to, so I guess I'll have to check with Honda.

    • @CampingRandy
      @CampingRandy  Před rokem +2

      Rotate it to fit. If it doesn’t- go back to the dealer to show you how. We pay to much for these vehicles to continue to deal with incompetent sales folks.

    mine was installed but I could not figure out what it was a door to....i guess you just showed me...thanks...one other thing, does the arm on the little door go into the space/gap of the yellow pull cord?????....and if it was not installed properly, would the alarm go off intermittently with no known reason....my horn goes off in the middle of the day or night with no prompt....some people say it is the trunk lid main latch switch, while others have said it is the MICU part....it seems like it is a common occurrence out there....also the tailgate open light comes on dash even after I close tail gate and drive away...i get out and open and shut it tighter and warning light goes out...thanks again

    • @CampingRandy
      @CampingRandy  Před 2 lety

      If you have a 2020 or newer, the Ridgeline comes with a tailgate lock. To know if you have the power lock factory, look for a black key box underneath the tailgate to the left of the license plate.

  • @billwatkins276
    @billwatkins276 Před rokem +1

    PSS - Dealer's Service dept. confirmed that the tailgate lock emergency release cap that I got with my 2023 does not fit the emergency release hole in the tailgate. They confirmed that I have the correct part, but there are as yet no service bulletins from Honda about the problem or what to do about it. I've seen at least one other user on a Ridgeline user forum say they had the same problem.

    I’ve just noticed in my 2020 Honda ridge line sport that when I looked the doors from the inside or outside that my driver side lock wasn’t locking my door…just wondering if it was something I hit on key fob or something on radio control panel or is this something common on the ridge line

    Thanks for solving the mystery! Our 2023 had this sitting in the glove box with no info, and I haven't found anything in the Owner's Manual about it. The online Honda video about enabling the tailgate autolock shows it only briefly.

      I'd do that I pit it in 2nd or 1st put the vtm on and it still won't let me spin tires when its needed and keep getting stuck. I got A/T 265/70/17.

  • @Dawgator

    Vid is a bit confusing - you’re talking about the tailgate lock then go into the trailer brake controller.
    I think it’s a needed vid, but maybe re-do it (without the gnats 🤣) and just focus on the key access and what exactly you’re tugging to release the tailgate lock - get a close up and explain it, then do a separate vid explaining the trailer brake controller.
    Other than that - awesome to mention this part; I had no idea. So if I get a Ridgeline I’ll know!
    I’m in the market but the market is NUTS - going to wait a bit I guess.
