- Here's an experimental video which combines the guide format with the video essay format in order for me to show why I hate playing insignificant powers like Krakow, but nonetheless will explain how to play such powers anyway. I didn't take this guide as far as most go, but that's just because the main topic of contention was the essay aspect of this video.

In Krakow case is even worse when polish uprising happen you don't get single event to join or oppose
Holy shit, really? Krakow supporting/sheltering rebels in the uprising is what led to Austria annexing it, IIRC. Lame. Krakow has almost nothing to offer outside being the only historical start to remake Poland unless Paradox decides to make Congress Poland a puppet like Finland, which I honestly think is the right approach.
dont worry 10 dlcs and you will have your choices
Camped outside the start of this video like it’s an old school modern warfare release
Your pronunciation of Kraków sounds just like a native's, I'm thoroughly impressed and even more so considering you're a native English speaker
Thanks! Took me a little while to practice the pronunciation, so I'm glad someone noticed
@@Tarkusarkusar somebody who finally cares and looks up how to pronouce words from a diffrent laungauge instead of ''im not pronoucing that''
It's not that hard to pronounce Krákow, especially compared to most of polish which looks like wprsętrdżśwett, so the people that don't pronounce it right just are dumb or don't care
Very grateful for high-quality edited Victoria 3 content that isn't 1-hour long 20-part let's plays, props~
Finally a guide for insignificant powers. Now do one on bigger insignificant powers like Thailand, Peru-Bolivia, sokoto etc
It's funny, I exclusively love the insignificant nations. The problems you list with them not having access to pillars of gameplay like meaningful diplomacy self resolve as you expand and build up; you said it yourself when you grew into a minor power.
Krakow is a super isolated nation that's simultaneously sandwiched between 3 great powers. It can't expand and war is impossible without relying upon global powers backing you. It's a poor example of what the primary draw of a minor nation is; growing a nothing state into a global powerhouse.
Try any of the Australian states if you want to see the fun of interesting minors.
My argument against what you're saying would be that the gameplay of moving from insignificant power to minor power doesn't contribute any new gameplay pillar. When I play a minor power, I get the exact same experience as an insignificant power, except with extra stuff to do.
When I play any insignificant power, I can grow into a world power, but that process is just more boring than playing a minor power.
It's impressive hoe correct is your pronunciation of the name "Kraków".
People rarely bother to care about it and move along.
And this is just cherry on the very delicious cake.
Keep going!
p.s. I'm the viewer for some time. Now I'm the subscriber now =]
I see the two cases for playing an insignificant "power":
1. you are learning the basic aspects of the game and want to cut out others.
2. you are the long time player and want to put your all skill and wit to pull off some very niche strat.
i like this combo video, guide and essay - good stuff
Thanks for taking up my idea for Your video 💡
Minimum wage feels like a trap right now, since it doesn't give an actual minimum wage it just multiplies the base wage. I wish it was separate from safety stuff, because I always want to max that out.
Minimum wage CAN be a trap, but if your industries are sufficiently profitable, it can be insanely powerful. It's important to examine your industries before taking on an additional minimum wage, but you're right that it's actually a base wage multiplier, and not a true minimum wage, which is misleading.
@@Tarkusarkusar I've seen it murder even profitable industries, because it murders the industries that industry relies on.
This is very true. You can always combine subsidies with minimum wage to ensure your economy stays alive, although higher minimum wages will hurt your dividend taxes, which doesn't leave much left for subsidies lol. it's a tough thing, but I do believe that minimum wage has uses.
Nice video and nice background music on this one :)
10:30 I encountered this issue as Finland against Russia too, but what you can do is go on the offense if they have lower infrastructure. If you have significantly superior troops, but fewer numbers it is then more likely you will have small battles and your offense will likely be way higher than their defense anyways. So yeah - it can be easier to push than defend as a small nation with high infrastructure.
I tend to agree with what you said about not really caring that insignificant powers are not fun to play.
The game is certainly geared toward great power politics (and I think rightly so, particularly this early in the games life). The point of insignificant powers I think is less to be an interesting choice to play, and more to be interesting in how they can cause conflict in major/great power interaction.
For example, in a USA game I was getting into Cold War American policy 100 years early with some aggressive diplo plays in Central America. For some reason Big Daddy Britain decided they didn’t like it. This ultimately led to a pretty fun globe spanning rivalry that lasted a few decades. The insignificant power in that situation forces the rivalry as it wasn’t in my best interest to directly target Britain.
Lucky for me Economy Building is my favourite part allows for studying while having something entertaining to do in the background. Why I like paradox games in general.
I found Sulu to be one of my most fun campaigns mostly because the game didn't lag as much as when I'm a larger nation tbh. I don't mind smaller tags that much.
I think minor and below powers need minor power plays that disincentivise great power involvement. Also I would like to see protectorates and the like be able to take the place as an interest group in their master's politics or in some other way influence their laws.
They should add Congress Poland as russian puppet. Would complete the fantasy of reuniting the commonwealth while not being as much if a drag to play. Some mods already do.
What I do when playing the game is I look the map of resources. Wood is usually abundant so I search if a country has or can conquer iron, coal and sulphur, and if not, I don't play it.
In my Kraków run, main issue was that Austria had like 3 civil wars. Ofc all of them were Hungary+Slovakia, which made me fully occupied and without market access for couple years each
AI is really bad at handling unrest
What do you think you could add to insignificant powers to make them feel better to play? Isn't afk economy spam pretty while trying to maintain cordial relations with nearby greater powers pretty much just what they do in real life?
I chose Kraków for my first game of any Victoria title ever. It was the worst choice ever, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Where is the vic3 art in the opening from?
I had a similar experience with Transvaal before getting bored. I was able to grow my GDP fairly well, but because I didn't rush the Zulu I was land locked and didn't have access to the international market on my own. So it's either join a market and try to not get subjected by your partner, or sit in obscurity at speed 5. At this point, there's not really a draw players to insignificant powers. You just do not have access to most of the game.
yea the only enjoyable way to play is to rush enough neighbours to stop being an insignificant power.
@@2009worstyearever you need a port to join another market, that's true so you need Zulu asap, but from there on I had fun. Do you join the British market to develop more quickly? I did, but then I wanted to conquer the Cape and form SA. So I had to leave that market, temporarily crashing my economy and rebuilt it different. You need allies to win, it's an okay challenge fight wise. After that other parties are scrambling for the malaria provinces of Africa so you either join head first or you end up with major powers closing in. By the end of the game I could strive for the number one spot and joined plays against the French until their power cracked and their African empire crumbled.
@@fallingphoenix2341 exactly the challenge is what makes it fun. Who cares if you can paint the map as Russia or France.
@@fallingphoenix2341 yea i grabbed the zulu and then if no one will help Portgula also that province they have right next to you. Usually in this patch Britain falls apart so South Africa is free and easy to grab but like this video said there is a period of time where you just watch the charts go up.
the hardest part is just getting enough pops to do anything.
@@visigoth3696 it is more impressive, but I feel like you have to play them in a very specific way or your whole playthrough is at a dead end. As a GP, you have a ton of freedom to go in any direction and if you do mess up, it usually leads to interesting situations, while as an insignificant power, one early misplay (not grabbing Zulu in my case) can ruin your run hours before you realize it. You just don't have any other options besides join a market and wait, for the most part. In CKIII and EUIV, you have several options and play styles to make a solid game out of one province, in Vicky III, not so much.
Good essay
1:24 yup, Britain Britain and Britain
all here
+1 Loyalist (me)
good video tarkus
Bro what is the music it slaps so hard like you just playing as krakow but it feels epic
could you try a Peru-Bolivia game?
Can you do a gigachad guide for Russia?
13:56 commonwealth reference?
Man, it really looks like Congress Poland would be vastly more interesting, since you can parasitize the Russian Market and use them to get Austrian and Prussian land, and you have the population and resources to not just be a horrible OPM
4:16 I'm larping as Switzerland what else
Once you declare war on Austria you're out of its market, you should've destroyed your infrastructure since you're a OPM and don't need to worry about market access to diminish the combat width. You almost had it buddy, you got so close.
There's a key difference: you exit the market once the war is over, not when the war is declared. This means for the duration of the war, having access to Austria's market is important. If I were to blow up my railways, I would suddenly have shortages for my barracks, which could cut my attack and defense in half. That would be a far worse fate. (the only alternative I can see would be to import weaponry from Russia and Prussia, which may have been a wise decision.)
@@Tarkusarkusar Oooh I see. That's very interesting, I was basing my comment on how when you have a rebel tag spawn, it has it's own separate market so I figured a rebelling puppet would get kicked out when raising arms, not when laying them down.
What you're saying would make sense, and definitely SHOULD be how it works, but oh well. It's an important, yet strange difference, and I would like it more if you forced out of your overlord's market at war declaration, because then I might be able to join another market like Prussia's. I think that would be really cool.
Alternatively playing major powers has to be one of the most boring experiences ever.
Personally my favorite playthrough of this game so far has been as Texas
Your pronunciation of „Kraków” made me think you're a fellow native Pole, lol. I tried Kraków, but got bored, so overbuild my army with cheats and still lost against Austria.
just build up to become independant. then you can do everything. thats the goal...
"What are you doing as Krakow?"
Form great nation of Poland of course 💪💪💪🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
Playing Krakow why? Maybe because its the only country which you can use to recreate Poland?
Lore of Why You Shouldn't Play Krakow momentum 100
I think insignificant powers could be better if the game could run faster
as it stands even at max speed not much is happening there
from my experiance playing this ram guzzling piece of shit game, its a lot more fun to play insignifacnt power when you are not in europe since europe is basically all the big power surounding you to such a high degree even playing belgium isn't fun at all, but playing a puppet of britain and breaking away or playing middle america and slowely eating mexico or playing an african nation and then colonising africa yourself and kicking out the european is a lot more fun imo, one thing i did which you might enjoy a lot altough it took me a solid week of attempting was as ethiopia take over all of africa kick out all the european and puppet/annexx everyone until africa is all blue and then realease as protactorate everyone, my roleplay for that game was "creating the united state of africa and stopping the euro invader" it was a lot of fun since once you control all of africa YOU become the main exporter of dies, cotton fruit tobaco etc etc etc so you become ultra mega rich and you can collaps euro power by embargoing them which is very fun to do altough the cost of doing that is insane and its a horribly hard challenege playing as an insignificant power can be very fun if its anywhere that isn't europe, which simply shows that this game is unbalanced as fuck and needs more options to do shit instead of this loop of war -> grow industry -> war, like idk maybe you can start a revolution in austria as krakow to get the polish people to leave so you don't have to fight a war against austria but instead a revolution which could be backed by euro powers without all the infamy tech, or maybe you can slowely infiltrate the government of your overlord to cause a collaps that will make you independant that sort of thing, like you said not a lot of fun rp not a lot of option not a lot of anything in this game, its the skeleton of an amazing game but that doesn't mean its amazing its just the skeleton
Play new Africa
on behalf of all polish people: :(((
Jestes Polakiem?
Wow. He pronounc krakow normaly. Yay
"Waste your time with insignificant powers". You know, playing video games in general is wasting time. Because it's a fucking recreation/relaxation and not a job. So even the title itsel is peak hypocirsy .
