People, don’t forget that Scottie’s son died like 6 months before he started ranting about Jordan. When you lose a child, your whole world shifts, you’re bitter inside and take it out on everybody without even knowing it. That’s a deep wound that never really heals. If Michael ever sees Scottie, he should just go up to him, give him a hug and not take anything Scottie says personal because Scottie’s hurting right now.

I think we should take this into account on why pippen acted like this. His son died , got divorced and other problems that we don’t know. Sometimes people take this matter lightly. You just can’t control when negativity takes over when your world collapsing around you. Easier said that done. Feel bad about Scottie
I understand that, but that doesn't mean it's ok to go off on Jordan and disrespect anytime you get a chance to talk about him. What he needed to do was take a step back from the media and focus on healing with great friends and family around him.

They do, they just don't know it or the media makes it seem like it's all about Jordan. When I was a kid, I always respected Pippen and understood that basketball is a team sport and Jordan would not have won championships in 1996, 1997 and 1998 without Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc and everyone else.

I *defy* you to find a single thing that came out of Jordan's mouth which wasn't complimentary of Pippen. No, this is Scottie being Scottie, the same petulant, sullen, resentful guy in 2021 that he was in 1997, who continues to blame other people for his own poor choices. Jerry Reinsdorf advised Scottie to sign a shorter contract, Scottie kept his own counsel, and when he regretted his own decision, did he say "Well, I guess I made a bad decision"? No, he blamed other people. So, when 'The Last Dance' came out and it told the story of Scottie's resentful refusal to take the court because Phil chose Kukoc to take that final shot, did he enter a new phase of self-reflection? Did he admit it was an immature and unprofessional thing to do? No, he blamed MJ and the producers of 'The Last Dance' for showing *the truth*.
I'm not surprised, how much character growth do you expect an athlete who's been a millionaire celebrity from his mid-20's to achieve? He doesn't have to reconcile his ego with the world, he's got enough money to keep an army of psychophants around him who will agree with anything he says, no matter how immature and insipid.

It makes me sad the one of the greatest duo in sports that brought countless people so much joy are unable to enjoy themselves after it's all said and done. I really hope Scottie recovers from this I know he's been through a lot throughout his entire life.
I think what might have something to do with it is the death of his son. His more controversial comments kind of coincide with that timeline.

MJ gave away his FMVP car award to Scottie when he won it in 97'. For scottie's birthday, Mike was originally going to give a box of cigars to Pip but then bought him his own Ferrari cause he knew that it was his favorite car. Jordan gave A LOT of praise to his partner throughout their years together and will never put the down the word "we" when it came to success and winning with him. Pippen has been through a lot and I keep wishing the best for him though.

When I think of The Last Dance, the first memory that comes to mind is how sad I felt about Pippen and his deal with the Bulls, how loyal he was despite getting the shortest end of the stick. Imo that's one of the most admirable traits a person can have. Michael was portrayed in both positive and a negative light (ruthless etc), but Pippen was the only one portrayed in the best possible light imo. Even if his screen time was shorter than Michael's, it didnt really feel that way to me. Dunno, maybe Pippen is right to be angry but I think he went a bit too far.
It’s actually pretty simple. MJ is the most famous and interesting athlete of all time so of course he was going to be the center of the doc. If it wasn’t centered on him it wouldn’t have been near as successful. MJ has never thrown shade at his teammates and always tried to win no matter what the costs. Jordan is remembering how much that stock and his jump man brand, the Hornets and that where he is making money hands over fist. Oh he also he is a grandfather now. Scottie was even told by management not to sign that contract. I think that Scottie is more upset with his x women. Scottie changes with the wind.
They probably won't because they are adults with their own lives. It's hard enough for old friends to keep in contact, even when there's no beef. When you add pride and hurt feelings into the mix, along with the distance that time brings.. There's little to no hope that the two will ever reconcile.
they were never close...at least in Pippen's mind and with some of his revelations i doubt jordan will forgive him (he hasn't forgiven barkley yet for comments he made).

Pippen was a total bricklayer of a shooter in 3rd and 4th quarters of key playoff games (and regular reason games frankly). People always talk about Pippen having 6 rings, and guys like Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Steve Nash, etc being playoff losers, but I've never seem any of them disappear MORE than Pippen; yes, including Karl Malone!
Just to add, the BULLS didn't draft well throughout Jordan's run, and they didn't sign any big free agents. They nailed one draft, 1987, by trading away Polynice for Pippen (swap), and drafting Horace Grant. Charles Oakley was a nice pick too. Their other drafts were underwhelming. The only key free agent signing, was Ron Harper, WHEN Jordan was retired. The BULLS were CHEAP! And Ron Harper ceased being the 20 PPG version of Ron Harper. He was never known as a defensive guy (just the opposite frankly). It's when Jordan and Pippen included him in their "Breakfast Club", did he get up to speed on defense. Credit to him, but if the BULLS lose any of those titles, people would point to his bad contract at the time.

For me, that grew up seeing those guys rocking on this game, is a sad thing seeing both of my basketball idols like this. I hope they get over it.
I have always been outspoken about how good Pip was. He truly could never get the credit he deserves but he’s also way over steeped his expectations of reality at this point to sell some books and in the process hurt his legacy.

Good video and you bring up a lot of great points about the teammates and Jordan. I’m four minutes in but had to stop when you said it “revitalized the Jordan industry” which is wild. The Jordan industry has been crushing for almost the last 40 years. I agree because of pandemic and lack of sports he got a nice bump, but revitalized? It was dying or on its death bread, he was before the doc and after the doc still the number one seller of sneakers and critics pundits and gasbags all over tv, social media, radio, and podcasts even before this doc talk about his greatness constantly. Clarification: his father was brutally murdered and dumped in a river; saying that he had died would make uninformed people think he died peacefully in bed after a long illness. So there's a good reason why MJ retired in 93; I wouldn't get out of my house for months if it happened to me.
Even though Jordon has always said if there's Michael Jordan, there's Scottie Pippen. Social Media and the Jordan vs LeBron comparison is what made SP today. He was always asked to compare between the 2 and probably felt that he was unappreciated despite what MJ has always said.
Jordan even have Scottie on his pick up basketball team over Larry Bird, even got him on the 1992 dream team. Jordan even said that Scottie was his real MVP after the 1997 finals. Jordan always gave Pippen his credit, Pippen wanted more than what he deserved, he wanted more praise than Jordan from the fans and media.
Did you even watch the video? Jordan authorized a 10 part documentary that glorified him and treated his teammates like they were just there to help out and be along for the ride.

I just re-watched this. Scotty said he signed a long-term contract fully in his career because he was guarding against injury, and he wanted to secure his future. Then the league took off, revenues went up, and his contract looks pitiful as a result. Totally his choice, he made a bad business decision.

Honestly the documentary didn't feel like a Jordan centric puff piece or a celebration of basketball, but really felt like a dissection of MJ's and the team's psyche and internal tensions, like it was edited like a crime documentary. I was kind of hoping more for a celebration of the sport through the lense of MJ and the team's last championship.

I wish someone could redo this documentary. As a fan growing up watching the 90's bulls, I was excited to find out it was coming out. When watching it, I was soon disappointed to see it was basically another jordan documentary. They should have interviewed all the key players. They all deserved some recognition.
Man, I can understand Pippen to an extent, but all the actions he's taken are incredibly bitter. As someone who grew up watching the Bulls play, I loved the team as a whole, not just MJ. Can't let media dictate how you see your legacy. Pippen will always be considered an incredible player in the hearts of fans and I hope he can find peace within himself eventually. 3:00 Jordan made 33 mil that season after he played out his contracts which he was severely underpaid. Scottie Pippen was still on a contract, a long term contract which he was advised against. There were seasons where Scottie Pippen was paid more than Jordan. The numbers made it look insane, but those were the contracts back in the days. Scottie Pippen signed a long term contract and wasn't smart in making business deals.

Younger people may not know how famous and appreciated Scottie Pippen was. The Chicago Bulls were 'Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen's Bulls'.
Its actually true that Scottie, even Horace Grant, and later on Scottie and Dennis was instrumental in Michael winning so much. In the three last championships they had three of the worlds best defenders, the worlds best scorer, the worlds best rebounder and the worlds most versatile player (Pippen). Michael would never say he would have won without Pippen. Pippen, Horace Grant or Rodman never got the respect they deserve. Its absolutely 100% true. Michael has also said it himself that Pippen and Rodman didnt get the respect they deserve. I actually think Jordan would forgive Pippen anything.

Not true, they were friends on & off the court. Jordan always made sure to give Pippen credit for the Bull's success. Hell Jordan even gave Pippen his $331,000 red Ferrari because Pippen wanted it. You don't give something like that to someone who isn't a friend. Pippen has had a miserable couple of years, from his son dying, to his divorce to Jordan's son dating his ex wife.
Pippen was not a fierce competitor. Teams bullied Pippen at every opportunity. Oftentimes, it was MJ who came to Pippen's defense.

The last dance specifically showed Pippen hurting his back in the playoffs and him trying to play through it while being praised by numerous people for being one of the toughest players ever. Yeah, TLD made a point of showing Scottie's tough side when playing with a hurt back. If all of the shade he's been giving was just about the book, I can see why MJ wouldn't give him the time of day anymore. Has a defensive player of the year, most top 5 DPOY finishes of all time, and multiple steals leader and blocks leader for a guard on his bag. It's just that the Bulls system centered around Pippen being the main facilitator and frontrunner in both ends so that Jordan can focus on scoring and assignment defense. And even then, Jordan shut down many stars on his bag more than Pippen (even shutting down Pippen's assignments). There's an entire article detailing about Jordan's incredibly consistent defensive impact throughout his career that puts him as one of the best defensive guards of all time. Pippen looks more defensive because he was more versatile, but as far as effective goes, Jordan was a step above Pippen. If Jordan was the Floor General, he would be bagging multiple triple doubles, more steals and blocks leaders, but would win less championships. Pippen is lucky that the system benefited him.

My father unexpectedly passed away in 2003, and life hasn't been good for me since. And, Scott Pippen's father Preston passed away in 1990, I believe (it was before Scott won his first championship). Scott's father passed away from an illness, my father passed away from what we believe was an embolism. Michael Jordan's father was MURDERED!! Not even "accidentally killed by a reckless or drunk driver." Rather, two a-holes thrill killed Michael's father, and robbed his championship ring and car, and bragged about it! In addition to sports, I watch a lot of true crime. True crime stories REALLY helped me cope, since 2004: For as bad as it was to lose my Dad unexpectedly when I was 29, I take a LOT of comfort, that he did not die because of a murder or something gruesome. I may be misunderstanding things, but I for my part, do not like that Scott criticized Michael for taking too long to grieve about his MURDERED father! I thought about committing suicide, after my father passed away. I don't even want to know how many times worse it felt for Michael.

Your parents would be crushed if they knew their death would be the major preoccupation in your life. You parents dying, regardless of the mechanics of it, sucks. And it happens to almost everybody. So in that regard, I agree with Scottie Pippen. Yes, you can be preoccupied with grief and you can make too a big a deal if it starts negatively impacting your life. Additionally, the disparity between their contracts was something that would rub a a man the wrong way. I have also thought that Jordan and his whole family were far too Michael-centric about his career, right from the get-go. I admire them for rallying around their boy, but they created a bit of a ME-MONSTER with the way they handled his ascension.

I vaguely remember watching a game years ago that had a few seconds left with the Bulls down by 2. The coach called a play that set up Kukoc with a last second shot. Toni made a 3 for the win, and everyone on the bench celebrated while Pippen threw a tantrum because he was not chosen to take the shot. I was shocked at his bad sportmanship.

And what does running the offense have to do with taking the last shot? If anything that would mean pippen should remain in that capacity and you slot someone else in jordan's role... I remember growing up in Chicago in the 90s and playing basketball as a kid. Some of the kids would say i wanna be like mike and imitate him and i was one of them, but my best friend would always say he wants to be like pippin and imitate pippin. We both went on to play highschool basketball and my friend ended up playing college ball too. As far as jerseys, the three most popular that evryone wore in Chicago were Jordan, Pippin, and Rodman. But you would see kids in Kukoc and even Harper or Grant jerseys too.

Other teammates of his got some screen time, Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, even Steve Kerr, which should've been Toni Kukoc instead. It's the Jordan Bulls, not the Scottie Pippen's Bulls. If there's a documentary about the 2016 Cavaliers I want it to be more on Lebron James, than it is about Kyrie or Kevin Love. If there's a documentary on the 2010's Warriors dynasty, I want it to be about Steph Curry, not Kevin Durant, not Draymond Green, not Klay Thompson. You can give the supporting casts some screen time and back story, but at the end of the day, the protagonist of the series are Jordan, Lebron and Curry for their own respective dynasty.

Luc Longley made his own version of The Last Dance and invited Jordan to be on it. On it, Jordan said he feels really bad about Luc's exclusion from The Last Dance because he had no control over who gets to be in the documentary and who gets interviewed. The interview crew literally said they didn't get Luc on because they didn't want to travel to Australia for the interview. Jordan personally made it up for Luc to appear on his own documentary/interview or whatever because he feels Luc was an important part of the team.

To be absolutely fair 'The Last Dance' was a very enjoyable puff piece for Jordan and I think we all know that it was heavily vetted by him before it could go out. It really did belittle Pippin - but in a way that I think Jordan could distance himself from (it really focused on his mental weakness in the 'I'm out' game and the 'headache' game - and to be fair even when he played with a slipped disc, it didn't really emphasise the strength of character it really took to do that). I mean, it also airbrushed Jordan's whole family situation, only touched on the gambling thing, handled Jordan's father with kid gloves sensitivity - when actually he is a problematic figure in his own behaviours and activities - it did make the Bulls look like they were only something with Jordan, and really not very much without him. I imagine that Pippin seethed watching it and I can imagine that many of the other Bulls watched the release and thought "Well actually, f**ck you". Jordan was an amazing player - but like so many great players his ego has got in the way of his legacy. Remember - Republicans buy sneakers too.

MJ is and always will be my favorite player of all time. The Chicago Bulls will always be my favorite team. Jordan wouldn't have won all six of those championships without Everyone one those Bulls teams in the 90's. Everyone played a part and the all played their parts perfectly. All the teammates should've been given their respect in The Last Dance.

Meh, not really. One thing the "doc" really highlighted was how unbalanced player vs. organization/management dynamics were back in the day.
The doc also showed MJ in a bad light, with his bullying, apathetic political views, and just being an all-around asshole. No player, coach, or member of the front office was exempted. Pippen commented on all the things that were in the doc. So, he knew what would be in it.

Jordan 10 out of 10 times. Nothing against Lebron, seen both play. Michael's got everything plus the mental edge. Lebron may be physically stronger than him, I'd doubt that though b/c MJ can handle big, quick men with higher individual skillsets in a 1 v 1 matchup. Lebron is just mentally weak.

A friend of mine reffed the NBA. He's met them all. Said Jordan was a nicer guy in person than No Tippin Pippen. Also know Stacey Kings' sons and met Dave Corzine a few times.
Jordan gave respect and was courteous (part of why officials treated him well). he never upstaged them and very rarely berated them. pippen on the other hand had star entitlement issues and thus treated officials like dirt.
