We don't call them Shingles we call them Tiles! Shingles is a Chicken Pox Virus!
Shingles are a wooden tile.
They use shingles in Britain
I have post herpetic neuralgia due to shingle and every time I hear/see that word I flinch
@@IcanbePsycho Slate tiles are also called Shingles.
I don't see any new homes being built with tiled roofs anymore, they're almost always colourbond nowadays.
The rockmelon price is not cost of living prices...it's either or a combination of season and storm/flood damage in growing areas
Yeah maybe an iga price as in my area of regional qld $5.90 not $10.90
i liked when our lettuce was going for $12 each and cabbage $10-15 and brockoli like $19 a kg that was within a year-2 year space of time
Haven't been able to get lemons into work for 3-4 months now as they're currently $120/box, probably 4kg worth. Much cheaper using limes.
I've never seen them at that insane price- must be some poxy metro shop in the city somewhere- I always go to the fruit & veg shop & get them for $2 or less.
Sadly the cost of fresh produce is HIGH by transport and handling, plus markup in retail, NOT the farmers getting fair return for hours and work input on most food resources in general.
Ryan, a little trick about Australian politics, particularly in Parliament (state or federal)... the colours matter, if it's green, it's the lower house (representatives / congress); if it's red, it's the upper house. The front row are ministers, or the opposing / shadow minister, if they're actually on a seat at the long side of the desk, they're the Leader, deputy, treasurer or manager of business. However those seated in the next two rows behind the box are generally members with the lowest electoral margins, so if they won with less than 2% of the vote, they're face is regularly seen to encourage their retention.
Also you will note the age of the members of both the house and senate are a lot lower than in the USA.
@carked5707 the Average age in Australia is 53, which is in between UK at 54 and Canada at 52, in the US Congress is on average 60, and the Senate at 67.
Asphalt roofing does not exist in Australia..we have corrugated steel, terracotta and concrete tiles and other metals like copper(for architectural houses. In my state 90-95% of houses are brick and/stone.
Yes, and several years ago after a particularly severe hailstorm, almost every corrugated iron roof in the small town of Wingham, NSW, was replaced via insurance, whether it was badly damaged or not.
We have a lot of what we call tin roofs ( corrugated iron) in the far north, safer with cyclones. But I have seen houses down south nsw with asphalted roofs.
@@bblake5116
Asphalt roofing is rare in Australia and even though it is slowly filtering in from the US I doubt it would become very common because they need to be replaced more frequently then what we already use here.
I live in Adelaide and the most common roof is tile (terracotta, concrete and slate) and tin (corrugated iron, standing seam, and other metals), we had a tile shaped tin we had to remove so we could install solar panels). The only roofs I'm not sure about are flat roofs...but flat roofed houses are also not that common.
I haven't heard of asphalt roofing before I read this. @@stevenbalekic5683
Asphalt?!? You blokes put freakin roads on your roofs?? Those things would just melt off on the first hot day lol.
I’d say the amount being spent on the lottery tells you how many are in need and that’s the only hope they have left .
I guess hope overrides stupidity every time when people use their hard earned on what in effect is a tax on hope/greed. It is just a scam.
@@davidparris7167 It's a scam if you don't know the probabilities. I play (sometimes) because even if they are low the chances are there. I don't need it for retirement but I could go that way much earlier 🙂. But most of the time if I'm lucky I get €5 😞.
@@davidparris7167It's easy to judge from your high horse when you have a nice fat super account and a house.
@@davidparris7167 "gotta be in it to win it" is what my grandmother would always say
so they'd rather live on hope than food? No doubt the same people gambling are also the ones spending their food money on ciggies
G'dy Mate! Asbestos has been found in the mulch laid in several children's playgrounds as well as in a few schools...All of those have been closed for remediation and removal of the contaminated mulch... Cheers!
I got married on my birthday so I wouldn’t forget my anniversary .
We chose a Friday the 13th to at least make half the date easy to remember 😂
Plovers are insanely protective parents. I once saw a screaming Daddy Plover try to dive bomb a Semi-Trailer, when it's day old chicks got down in a gutter by a highway and were too small to hop back up. However, it's very rare thet they will connect / srike - when they dive close to you. It's usually all loud bluff. Unlike Magpies, that will make a hole in your: skull / eye / face....If they're really mad. They particularly don't like runners or cyclists - according to CZcams! Yet, I had a whole family of Maggies hanging around my house, following me about in the garden and singing { warbling } to me. I found out the people who lived there before us used to feed them mince { loose } meat.
The bird is called a Plover they are the worst. At least if you treat a magpie with respect they leave you alone. Plovers don't give a s**t and will chase you for blocks. YES they have little knives on there wing tips.
And they fly around screaming in the middle of the night.
Plovers will actually take on foster parent role or protector of any fledgling that falls from the nest or protector of any other injured birds in their vicinity. I actually watched a pair covering a native dove fledgling and when the parents were nearby one plover guided it to it's parent. Apparently that's just their natural instinct.
They're very primitive, and very stupid birds.
That sounds very cool. I only know the bad side.@@zalired8925
I have Plovers that come to my house from the Golf Course and they are no problem at all, they come for a little food that I feed the birds. I have named the two that hang around the most, Mal and Mike (Leyland Brothers) LOL.
I have Magpies that visit and I have called them the Simpsons and two Magpie Larks that I call Frank and Betty. They are all friendly and fly in when they see me. I love them. 😃😍
I just went to Woolies and Coles online. Rockmelons are $6.90 whole, and $3.45 for a half. Coles $5.90 and $3 per half. Consider that rockmelons are grown in the top half of Australia and are shipped to the southern states, then add to that the floods and how that might impact the volume of viable melons, the location of the supermarket will also have a bearing on the retail price.
Most rock melons are grown in upper Australia but there is large farm's in the riverland and sunrasia that grow them to
Pheiler brothers in Ramco are the biggest in the riverland
Wouldn't asphalt roofs burn too fiercely? If we are talking about the bitumen (tar) product, I doubt it would be legal to put it on your roof in Australia. Plus, it would probably melt in the summer.
It wouldn't last over here mate, it would drip off after a hot week in summer. ✌
Fresh food like fruits are completely seasonal and some times prices rise high, especially if supply is constrained.
If you haven’t *WATCH CROCODILE DUNDEE* , it is a quality Australian film
Edit: reply if you have watched both movies!
"That's not a knife"
I actually stop watch laughs …every 90 seconds !
@@MrMuzzball “this is a knife”
A must watch, for sure!
The Castle is way better
Here I am. A Swedish woman living in the UK, getting Australian news from a guy in Indiana. 👍😀
The majority of the roofs of our houses have tiles made from terracotta, cement tiles, and metal (zincaloom) often seen on old homes and farms
Every new home being built where I live are using colourbond roofing. Haven't seen many new tiled roofs for years.
As a country that have a lot of introduced pests brought into our country. As an Aussie I apologise for Rupert Murdoch.
Can you also apologize for the Project?
If you buy seasonal fruit and vegetables it’s not that expensive. I got 9 avocados at woollies yesterday for $6 au
pretty much zero shingles in Australia, I am sure they exist but have NEVER seen a house with shingles, seen a few gazebos etc with wood shingles, but never a house. its either corrugated iron or some form of tile. we also don't use OSB or plywood to cover the whole roof before putting the roofing material on, it tends to just go on over foil paper or an insulation blanket.
Kind of surprised that the largest blackout in Victoria's history didn't make it onto r/australia at the time Ryan checked it. There are still some places without power, afaik.
The Joys of trying t6o use solely green energy lol (wait are they still doing that with south oz? I migrated a long time back)
@@Alan-R1971 fallen transmission towers and lines have exactly nothing to do with the source of energy being transmitted.
And the power station that got shut down was a coal station.
It probably made it there, but for some reason Ryan always avoids reporting on ANY natural disasters we have here
Tiles either cement or terracotta or corrugated iron or nowadays colorbond.
We mostly have tin roofs, especially up north for the cyclones.
You are a smart guy Ryan, I like hearing you think stuff through to the camera. You may not be local but you get the gist of most Aussie things. When I see multi buys, I walk by, my households not big enough to justify all that chocci.
The Liberal party in Australia these days is anything but liberal. It's confusing, I know 😅 Yep, a rockmelon is cantaloupe. The price of fruit & veg varies according to seasonal availability and how far it has to be transported.
Liberal in the party name refers to personal liberties, like "my body my right" stuff or allowed to abuse others as a personal liberty or whatever
We celebrate everything , so it gives us an excuse to drink .😂as for the plover they are vicious, I got three stitches near my right eye where it continually attacked me , they will keep at you until you are a long way away from the territory.
Plover attacked one of my dogs, tried to take its eye out.
@@scallyann_ yeah they seem to go towards the eyes in my experience. They are a real danger at times.
Yes, the Plover, a Bird with no redeeming features at all. There’s a love / hate relationship with Magpies, but just pure hate with the Plovers. What creature can we introduce to get rid of them. Haha.
Agree completely, not even metaphorically lol
@@scallyann_ 😂
Noisiest, ugliest, stupidest birds ever created!
@@_alifeallmine_ absolutely not true! There was a developer a while back who ran over a nest to get rid of it, a local filmed it & it caused absolute outrage nationally, cause people absolutely love & respect what dedicated parents these birds are. They are totally fine outside breeding season, they just get super protective of ALL babies when they have their own
@@mehere8038 Well, personally I haven’t met or know anyone that has something good to say about the Plover. But putting that aside for a moment, clearly it was a joke, just read the tone of my comment, and I wasn’t making any definitive statement at all. I would no more injure an animal, regardless of whether I find it irritating or not, than fly to the moon. Honestly, settle down a bit, it’s just a bit of obvious humour.
The 'Sydney Myer' Music Bowel featured in an early photo was built in 1959 so that is the era of the early photos.

Hey Ryan, funny thing about the kitkats, normally $6 each or 3 for $15. Currently they are on half price special, $3 each, but still listed as 3 for $15 as well.
Woolworths has a homebrand chocolate down on the bottom shelf for 2.75 that is great. Nowhere near as oily as cadbury but still chocolatey
We had some hail a few days ago during a series of coastal storms. It’s summer so storms bring some relief from the heat.
2:30 just spent 4 and half days helping my local community clean up after this - trees were snapped in half, carports were flipped over….it was a mess
Ryan apparently has no interest in ever doing videos about any of our disasters though for some reason. Hope your community's on the way to recovery now & has power restored
Hey Ryan. Can't believe you know disc golf and Macbeth. LOL! Beast Mode FTW!!!
My wife and I got married on Valentines Day, and we've been together for 33yrs.
Hail is very common in Austria (yes, the other one). We sometimes have it several times a week in summer. 2 years ago my car was beat up for the first time in decades.
G’Day Ryan, the photos were taken between 68 & 71. How I know this! Well you see 62 & 64 holden but then you see 68, 69 holdens and a 71 Chrysler. As fast as the mini skirt reference is concerned, they came out in the mid 60’s🇦🇺
In 2008 US Senator John McCain suggested that it would be a good idea for the US to have something similar to our Question Time in their Congress. It goes without saying that Congress just shrugged it off. Except for the presidential "State of the Union" speech, the president is under no obligation to address Congress, much less entertain their questions. In the Westminster system of government, such as what we have here in Australia, the prime minister is a Member of Parliament, but in the US the president is an independent constitutional officer who cannot be compelled to appear before Congress. To do this the country would have to overhaul its entire system of government. Sorry Ryan, this ain't gonna happen any time soon, buddy.
Ryan, look up what Auusies did with Barnaby Joyce's flip out...he turned up superimposed on artwork, we had a kangaroo lookalike and apparently, a BNB opened on the pathway where he laid along with a chalk outline of where he was. Very funny.
I do feel sorry for Barnaby, but that is funny!
G’day Ryan, the bird with spurs on it’s wing tips are called Lapwing masked Plover/s
Actually, they are masked lapwings and only the ignorant call them plovers because they aren't plovers.
And they lay their eggs on the ground in slight depressions. Then they stand guard and attack anyone who walks nearby. I was swooped by a plover in the playground at school and I was a football field away from their nest. Terrible mean creatures. 😊
Don't know where my reply went, but they are masked lapwings. People call them plovers but they are not plovers.
The concert was definitely 70s - mini skirts! And if you are going to buy lottery tickets, buy the $100,000 ones. The odds are so much better!
Judging by the quality of the photos, and the fact that they are at least in colour, they were probably taken in the 70's.
Just as a side note, the Germans had colour movies/film in the 1930's.
I'd say 60s
Judging by skirt length, I thought 60’s.
And the cars. Maybe early 70’s, but I’d still say 60’s.
We've got a heatwave in Perth, tomorrow will be 43c (37.7c = 100f)🥵 This will be the third week with only a couple of days below 30c.
Pray for us.☮️
NO! They are NOT allowed to ask. Interestingly consumer laws state that if you are a business and OPEN up to the public to walk in to shop, you cannot even legally search their bags!
Australia and continental USA are similar sizes, so I don't know if it hails more here in Aus than up your way, but there are some climates where it happens a lot.
That’s not Sunbury (Australia’s Woodstock). It’s the Sidney Myer musiic bowl in Melbourne
A great 'ocker' movie to watch (complete on CZcams) from an outsiders perspective is 'They're a Weird Mob' made in 1966. It was a hit at the time and has lots of laughs.
Going to be very warm here the next few days, again!
I watched this once already but I had to come back to this video & leave a comment because it just started hailing in Canberra 🤯 what’s the odds of that?
Coles can ask me to lift my shirt. I’m innocent so I have nothing to hide.
To be fair, the new yellow pack doesn’t say “Easy to melt.” The new yellow packaging is Coles new range for those on a tighter budget. Personally, I buy brands whenever possible because supermarkets’ own brands have never been great. I would buy Nestle chocolate bits which are specifically for melting, or a block of Plaistowe Cooking Chocolate which is a compound chocolate. It just depends what I’m making.
I can understand where you are coming from, but you have to consider what invasion of privacy would be too much.
You may be comfortable with your body, but there are reasons people hide things that are unrelated to their innocence. That’s even before you consider decency laws or potential predatory behaviour.
If American chocolate was as good as ours you’d have a bigger obesity problem
Stores can't search anyone, only Police In Australia
stores can't search police either
@@jwnomad I see you skewed that, Only Police have the power to search not stores
@@tomdagan6361 Of course, it would be useless to grant them the power in light of the fact that stores don't have the necessary limbs or sentience to conduct a body search
Hey Ryan, how about for an upcoming video, you and your wife make and try an Australian hamburger. For this it goes bun, burger patty, bbq sauce, cheese, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato, pickled beetroot, a pineapple ring, 2 pieces of crispy bacon and caramelised onions with the top bun BARELY holding it all together.
I’m an American expat and love me a burger with the lot!
Keep posting but don't hold your breath he will read it. IWrocker did it though.
Pineapple is only eaten in a fritter, or fruit salad, no one with taste puts it on a burger.
Don’t forget the fried onions, to go on the patty before the sauce.
I am getting tired of seeing this suggestion so often, though. I think he’s probably seen it by now if he’s going to
When you need melted chocolate for something it melts better when it comes in little buttons. No chopping first. Except apparently for Cole’s’ new one.👀
You should watch a video on bodysurfing in Australia
Ryan you need to watch Houso’s. It will probably sound like a foreign language to you lol 😂
13:00 this is no joke. Shrinkflation. Been seeing it everywhere. Chocolate bars are smaller. Even the frozen oven chips I buy I can tell is less because they don't fill the tray from edge to edge like they used to.
My son doesn't order the KFC tenders box anymore because the tenders are half the size and not worth the cost of the box. Even he noticed it. Shameful.
i know Ryan has ever right to only look at people who financially support his channel. can someone please tell him to watch John Farnham singing your the voice with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. i know he has seen other Australian singers, but he hasn't seen one of the best singing Australia has ever had.
chocolate buttons are basically just cooking chocolate, but in a smaller form factor so it is easier to melt without having to break up a block. you can also use them as choc chips in giant 'cookies'
Hi Ryan, Today Sunday the 18th of Feb it was a lazy 43c-110f in Perth just a little bit warm.
The lottery system in Western Australia is totally different to the rest of Oz.
Hearing about governement corruption and stuff like that makes me very happy to live in the second least corrupt country on earth, only beaten by Denmark according to the latest reports!
It hailed in the United Arab Emirates the other day
Ryan, easy celcius conversion
0=water freezing, 100= water boiling
Comfortable temp = age you were at your peak
40= "over the hill" in age & over the limit of tolerable in weather
& peak age is normally about 18-24 for men & about 24-26 for women & that's about the temp in celcius that each gender tends to find best too
& so yes, 36c is going to be at least 10c (20f) over what you would find comfortable & heading towards being "over the hill"
Economic instability is a gold mine for lottery companies. When everyone is suffering financial pain, a chance at a big win can be tour only hope. In 2009 when the rest of the world was in pain, Australia's economy was booming thanks to the mining industry. Our dollar met parity with the US and our buying power was off the charts. We all lived a lot more comfortably so there was less desperation for money, hence less people hoping for salvation through gambling
Lottery spending went down in 2008-2009 because the USA had a financial crisis but Australia didn't, our dollar was worth more so a lot of people were buying up American dollars at the time instead of taking the gamble on the lottery.
Celsius is easy mate it's all related to water 0 it's frozen, and 100 it's boiling. For a day 23 to 25 is not to cold not to hot, and 36 is 100 fahrenheit.
Gambling is a huge issue in Australia
Our fruit is seasonal- and prices fluctuate due to what season is it.
temperature celsius to Fahrenheit made easy 30 C = 90 F the math is double it and add 30 to turn C to F So its 30 +30 = 60 + 30 = 90 deg F
much easier for this stuff is just convert into ages. Comfortable temp matches to age when bodies peak, whereas "over the hill" is too hot
HAPPY ARVO RYAN
For reference, Ryan, 37°C = 98.4°F, body temperature. So 36C =~ 96F. I hope that helps.
Rock Melons are what you would likely call cantaloupes.
The latest ‘Spin’ directive is sent to members so they know what to say , directed at whom....all behind the scenes by cellphone.

Politicians themselves are all corrupt while they bleed their hearts out with sympathy and compassion that majority of us hard working average Australians are struggling to cover rent/mortgages, utilities and food bills, those pricks decide to grant themselves a 15% payrise, there's no company or union that has ever had a one off 15% payrise so why should they. By law the only thing an employee or manager can do is try stop the suspect leaving, but not allowed to touch you, not even security guards are allowed to touch you, until you are outside the store it technically isn't theft yet, weird I know, only the police or higher officers have powers to detain and arrest you on suspicion and probable cause amongst other things that could bring potential charges.
