How to Remove Flower From Dragon Fruit

- Removing Dragon Fruit Flower helps your fruit stay fungal and pest free. This helps with limiting humidity on your Dragon Fruit to prevent it from having any rot that may happen. Especially, if it starts to rain then moisture will be trapped inside which can later cause your fruit to have issues. It also prevents bugs from eating from the inside out and when removing the flower you can see exactly what’s going on. Check out this video to see WHEN and HOW I remove the Dragon Fruit Flower!

Love your stuff. I am about to build a massive garden and DF is one of my fav. I have yet to eat a red flesh fruit. I am a disabled Army Vet and gardening is very relaxing for me. I have never grown DF but looking forward to do it. Thank you

Exelente video informativo. Es de mucha ayuda toda la información que compartes. Gracias guapo
I will try to remove my flowers this way next time. I might have cut mines too early🤔. Keep posting!!! Too bad I live so far from you, would love to see it in person...yup, I’m impatient 😆
Hi Chanh! Didn’t know you were one of my subscribers. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel! You are awesome. Usually 2 days is enough time for the fruit to accept pollen. I just wait the extra amount of days because I’m paranoid and give it time to separate so it’s easier to snap and pull off. 😄

Awesome tips 👍thanks for sharing 👍👍
Thank you!
Thank you very much for this clip...I will start doing now
You're very welcome!
Great video. Would you explain when in the season to prune to improve flowering, increase growing, etc?
Thank you, Salvi Mithrin. I will definitely make a video on that topic when that time comes for me so I can demonstrate and explain as I am pruning my dragon fruit plants. Pruning for me usually starts in November when the last set of flowers all bloom and harvested. Then pruning will begin. I’ll make sure to cover all the content in the video. I appreciate your suggestions!

Hi Richer love ur video and love ur dragon fruits. I have big dragon pot n it bloom nice for 2 years now but it turned yellow n fail off no fruit. I’m sad! I tried to pollenate it but I did it wrong. Now I see ur video it make sense . So I’ll will try next year. Wish me luck. If I don’t have fruit I’ll go still ur!! Lol thank u .
Love how your dragon fruit sooo huge well the cactus size, i will love to know how to get it that big??? Also youve inspired me to start to grow them so im starting my project soon im presently on your fbk group
Have been growing 4 varieties of dragon fruit for a year and look nothing like yours. I believe when I make my raised bed and use a concrete /styrofoam post for the DF to climb as well as your trellis design ... should start showing promising results. Will keep you posted. Thanks for all tour videos and advice.
Hi Kenneth, please keep me updated I would love to hear about your progress. Chicken manure is a great source of fertilizer that will feed them throughout the year slowly. They love it and you can get results just like me by simply just adding this to your garden routine.
Interesting always wanted to plant dragon fruits this is very helpful thanks
You’re very welcome Kou Lor! Right now it’s the best time to start growing Dragon fruit. Their season is from May-October after the winter comes they go “dormant” and won’t grow until spring-summer season is back.
Oh my God ... Oh my God ... I've got four fruits growing and getting red. And there are more three I think they're very "pregnant". I tried to take off the flower but it was already dry and hard to remove so I left there. Next year I'll remove them. Thank you for your advice Richard.
Thank you for knowledge
Dragon fruits are very interesting & wish I could grow them here but to cold & there's another plant people's soak in liquor & wondering if there the same
hi, thank you for adding dragon fruit videos, we have red varieties at our farm
Welcome!
More nerrative and soo good to hear your voice. Keep it up
Thank you for watching! :)
Hi Richard
Thank you for your very informative videos. I just learned that my “night blooming cactus” is really a dragon fruit plant about two months ago. I have been enjoying the plant for 10 years! I have quite a few that grow in my yard. After learning about dragon fruit from your videos we pollinated several flowers and had one fruit. It was delicious. Then we pollinated 27 flowers in the next bloom. None grew into fruit. Then I saw the video where you removed the flower and then the stigma. I just pollinated 5 tonight. Will try and follow your instructions over the next week or so.
Do you think that because the flowers and stigma were not removed was the reason we had no fruit? I live in Florida.
Thank you for any insight you may have.
Some dragon fruit need to be cross pollenated from a seperate plant.
Were you able to figure out how to get fruit from it?
Was also wondering have you tried growing the yellow dragon fruits & red ones & how they do there & what do you do with the flowers.
Very nice content and educational. Do pest chew on the stigma after you pull the flowers?
Adoro seus vídeos penas não ter tradução, fico mais no intuitivo mesmo.
Great video. Thanks
Can you talk about how to tell when a flower is successfully pollinated? All my flowers become bulbous and appear halfway like a mature fruit, but then they eventually fall off before full maturity. I'm wondering if this means they were not successfully pollinated.
Same here also happened
all good tips, thanks
Best info...
Thank you, Santri Mandiri!
How do you treat the flowers if you plan to make tea from them? The flowers you plucked were moldy and not looking like they'd make a tea which I would want to drink. thx!
que hermosa planta y cuanto fruto!
Like from mizoram,i like your video,i learn alots of things,so im so happy,im waiting for another video 👍
That's my favorite part removing the flowers from dragon fruit. It's addictive. 🤣
Its definitely very satisfying to pull off the flower. So I know what you mean about it being addictive. 😄

Very nice show how to remove flower. Thanks
Good information healthy plants
Hi Pritesh Sojitra, thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing this. I've had a big problem with the dragon fruit creating the flower, the flower rots and the fruit falls off in the early stages, so maddening. I hope this solves the problem.
Your problem isn't the flower rot. It's the pollenation. Hope you've figured it out by now!
@@smokecrook I watched a video on how to pollinate. But I do wonder if the compost I have it in holds too much moisture. What do you recommend for soil?
Did you ever figure it out? Mine’s doing the same thing.
@@aquaseahorselove3939 I'm still having the same problem. I think I might have to transplant them to get them into dryer soil. There's a lot of compost in the pot which might be holding too much moisture.
@@jetpromys I’m convinced mine must be self sterile. I’ve started a different kind of dragon fruit so I can cross pollinate them and see if that solves the problem. Good luck with yours.
Hi
I liked your video. What is the good size of the pot that you used?
Thanks a lot
How do u keep it looking like a tree?
Do you cut the ends like a bonsai?
Awesome sauce. Nice content. I had no clue of this flower removal front Dragon fruit. Very nice. I got two poisonous spiders on my Dragon fruit plant. Have you encountered this on your plants? And what's your suggest in regards to this matter?

Nice demonstration bro, I would like to know the schedule of Nutrition we need to provide for healthy growth and fruiting.
Hi. I didn’t know about pulling the flower off. Thank you for showing how that is done. Your video’s are very helpful. Thanks! Question, if you don’t mind. … I live in Central Florida and have a Haley’s Comet Dragonfruit. It gets mostly sun and is well drained. I had 5 blooms this year and hand pollinated all of them. (One on one night, and other 4 the night after) on the night I had 4, I used all 4 to pollinate each other. Few days later, seemed like they took. They were firm. On the 5 th day, I could see the color separation and was able to pull the bloom off like you showed. But a day or so later, they turned yellow. 3 fell off the next day. The other 2 have some pink, but also kind of yellow. What did I do wrong? (Going to send this your dragonfruit friend as well, please don’t be offended. I’ve learned from both of you, lol)
I like the way you vlog and explain.please more educate us like my Dragon fruits stems are so skinny what fertilizer to use to be fat stem.and hopes to bear fruits successfully since i got end to yellow and drop so discouraging.thanks a lot.
Hi Dieter Schulz, thank you for watching my videos and I’m glad you are finding them helpful and educating! Here’s a new video I just posted that will help your dragon fruit stems grow thick and healthy again. It also helps boost their immune system to prevent diseases. Hello Richard, can we use as tea the flower that you removed from the fruit?
Wow! Great video
What is the reason for so many dislikes. He is doing such great job of teaching. God bless.
Hi there,
I'm new to your channel. I'm from Brazil. Im growing dragon fruits, but the way I learned is a little different from what I could see in your plant. So can you tell me why do you do that way?
I noticed that your plant is not growing from a single trunk, then on the top it spreads. Yours is spreaded from the bottom. Why is that?
By the way, it looks very beautiful and healthy!!
Thank you for sharing Godbless
Hi Richard. Love following all your videos on dragon fruit and will always do so. Would you be able to tell me what i am doing wrong on the dragon fruit flowers, When i am to pollinate the flowers ,some that are supposed to be opened will not open at all ,cause the tips of the flower are stuck like glue ,Could this be from lack of watering.or from the ants that are on these flowers at earlier buding stage,Please help me if you know the cause, God bless you .
Hi James Billy, what variety of Dragon Fruit are you having this happening to you? Some varieties take long to bloom than others. Also, are you adding any type of fertilizer to encourage strength to help with blooming? These factors will help me identify what is happening. I never heard of a sterile flower and they tend to always open. It might just be a late bloomer. Keep me updated and I’ll try to help you figure this out. We want them to bloom!
Hi there I lTownsville Australia
Iv been following your videos for some time now
6 nights ago my dragonfruit flowered so I went and collected some pollen because I new that I had about 14 flowers going to be ready at the same time.
So today being day 6 I thought I should remove the flowers off the fruit
Townsville has had constant rain now for 4 days now and the flowers are very mushy and hard to remove so what should I do as I’ve had my dragon fruit plants now four 4 years and they have never produced fruit so I started following you for guidance and this year is the first time I have followed your instructions
Thanks! This is very informative!
would you know why after pollinating and after 4 to 5 days, the whole flower becomes yellow and dies out? does this mean i did not pollinate it correctly?
Hello Richard, more power to your channel. I want ask you regarding my plant Dragon fruits, got a lot of flowers but turns down to yellow and dying, not becoming fruity, what’s the right cure to apply? Thank you for your immediate attention.
I was going to say that isnt it better to let nature do its job but you obviously know what you're doing judging by the health & size of your plant so ill take the tip thanks for sharing
Hi Tony, nature can definitely do its job but this just helps keep the fruit pest and moisture free. It helps keeps your fruit stay damage free and very pretty once you harvest them. Sometimes critters love to hide in those dry flowers and eat the fruit from within. Thanks for watching!
Good information ❤
Splendid!
This is pretty satisfying.
Never seen this before.Tnx.

BUEN TRABAJO ..
If i am growing one dragonfruit cactus,
Say i propogated cuttings from it,
Would they be suitable for cross pollinating?
Or would they be the same bariety as the plant i took cuttings from?
it's a beautiful plant, I'd like you to show the soil on your foot to get an idea if I can have a similar foot. Thank you! Brasil
Thanx for letting me know. I’m a first time grower in Miami Fla. and I left the flowers dry up on the fruit. This caused the fruit to rot and fall off😭😩
Next time! It's all a learning experience for everyone
Why do you graft new seedlings??? And on what?? Sorry for all the questions....
Would you throw the removed flowers into a compost, or trash them?
Hey Richard I remove the string coming out of the dragon fruit. Did I messed up on that?

What kind fertilizer needed as my plant is not growing and not flowering.
My dragon fruit plants gave me about 10 flowers about 4 days ago. I pollinated them at night. But the flowers became yellow and withering away. Could it be over watering?
I like how you deflowered it.
Thank you
Hi, i have two questions
1- I’ve noticed dragonfruit plants produce two types of limbs, one kind tends to get chunky full of water while the other is skinny, long and seems to grow faster, how should I choose which limbs to
Prune, long and skinny, the chunkier ones, or both?
2- is it true that weather needs to reach a certain temperature for dragon flowers to actually become fruit?
Thanks for all the knowledge you share
How do you get your df to flower and fruit?
My df is not doing well. Can't get it to flower and to fruit.
What method do you use?
Do you sale the cutters? Your dragon fruit trees look very healthy, How do you take care of them?
Thank you
Hello I am new to your channel, so how do you pollenate the plant does it pollinate on its own? I have red and yellow seeds ready to germinate.. hopefully
First dragon fruit flower ever today. How do I know if it is self pollinating or not? Or needs cross pollinating with another plant?
