Do not need different species, just a different flower. When you have only one flower, save the pollen ( freeze) to use on the next flower. Cross species pollination effects the seed genes, not the fruit.

There’s a technique women use with those highlighter brushes, we tap the excess off. You could try tapping the brush to make the pollen gently fall off onto the stigma. Very helpful!!

Very good demonstration. I brought my first dragon fruit plant today, but It's very tiny so I think I ill be waiting quiet a while. You can see the extra roots that sprout for when they grow naturally along the ground to suck up more nutrients and water from the earth. I would actually like to see how well they grow along the ground.

Most Dragon flowers are self fertile and have alot of pollen - Home grow taste amazing over store bought
so I hope they ripen well for you - Ripening tip is --- wait for the flower to dry and nearly or fall off and are ready to eat -
    enjoy

nice video, but your technique is good for other flowers, not really for hylo cactus or other types... in side the stigma, there is a tiny hole that goes all the way back to the ovary... by just shaking the pollen, it is not enough to make it go through... you have to pretty much pour the pollen into the hole in the middle of the stigma... i'm sure you got some fruits, but most hybridizers pack the hole of the stigma with pollen with a small piece of cardstock or plastic...

I planted 9 dragon fruit seeds in a tub on the weekend & kept the rest aside for later so knowing how to hand pollinating the flower will become useful to me in a couple of years.
We do also have bats & moths which can pollinate the flowers.

it is very complicated to get them to fruit... or to cross pollinate... i usually cut off most of the pedals from the top... carefully... then wait until the stemen and pollen stretch out and the pollen is released.. it's very hard to get the pollen into the tiny hole of the stigma...
