Do not need different species, just a different flower. When you have only one flower, save the pollen ( freeze) to use on the next flower. Cross species pollination effects the seed genes, not the fruit.
There’s a technique women use with those highlighter brushes, we tap the excess off. You could try tapping the brush to make the pollen gently fall off onto the stigma. Very helpful!!
This has been a very good tutorial. After waiting for 2-3 years, tonight I finally got my first and only dragon fruit flower. It's 8 pm now and the flower has opened up. I'm going to do exactly like you did to self pollinate. Thank you.
Any luck with your flower?
@@sandiago7564 Yes I did get my first Purple dragon fruit. Waiting for it to ripe!
@@i.r.walling7289 how is it?
@@olliesamuels3103 The fruit came out large and tasty. Sweet.

VeganAthlete thanks Jake that was awesome!
VeganAthlete and
VeganAthlete, I wonder if u got it pollinated, I know that if u grow several different plants from the seed of one dragon fruit, they won't pollinate each other. Yet, the video served its purpose, the way to do it, yet with different flowers. Thanks
VeganAthlete amazing video 💖
Have you started using fresh seeds or cutting ?
Nice LED headband. lol. Cool video! Looking forward to the updates.
:)
OMG! I have never seen this happen before! Thank you Jake for this educational video.
What a beautiful little video!! Nights flowers are rather special and I can imagine how wonderful the scent must be.
this video was fun to make and fun to edit! :)
I love the sounds of your garden at night!
Thanks Lori. Me too!
Wow, the night video of the dragon fruit is so vivid.😎😎😎
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. NOW MY DRAGONFRUIT CACTUS SHALL BE EFFICIENTLY MANAGED NOW THAT YOU HAVE TAUGHT WELL HOW TO POLLINATE IT. GOD BLESS!
tonite i got my very first dragon fruit flower to bloom. it's a single flower, so i gotta do it right in the very first attempt.
seems like a simple enough procedure. exactly how i expected it to be....now off to make the magic happen!
Very good demonstration. I brought my first dragon fruit plant today, but It's very tiny so I think I ill be waiting quiet a while. You can see the extra roots that sprout for when they grow naturally along the ground to suck up more nutrients and water from the earth. I would actually like to see how well they grow along the ground.
I grow them over the ground
My Dragon Fruit is blooming right now. This is the info I was looking for. Hopefully it works and I get a fruit.

Jake Mace.... The Pollen Whisperer....
Jake: "If you come in closer you can get a better look" (said to the lovely camera lady)
Me: I should move forwards to get a better look😐😂😂😂
;)
I hope it work for you, ours wasn't self fertile. It set a fruit but it was tiny. Please keep us updated!
You Look just like the Dragon Fruit Flower with all those lights lol! This plant peeks itself over my fence, I always feel as if a higher source is giving me lots of love every time I see their amazing bloom. There hasn't been any fruits though, but now I will try this and see if they will do just that... Thank you So much for your kind gesture of information : )
awesome! I'm in california and need a Pitaya plant!
Another great one! I'm stilll waiting for my red dragon fruit to flower for the first time here in zone 9b cental ca. Feeling inspired!
That's what this one is supposed to be.....the red variety!
I have red and purple. The seeds came from the fruits I ate. They were both sweet! But I heard that the yellow one is the sweetest. Do you have a yellow one? :-D

Thank you I learned a lot.
I missed mine. It open the day before yours. Same variety too. I hope it got pollinated.
We believe did it??
Cool beautiful flower!
This was awesome, Thanks, I have one that is going to bloom within two to three days, it will be my first. I am going to try the same experiment.
You should make a video for the care of a dragon fruit cactus tree.
Great video! That is a beautiful flower! Love the new light!
Thanks Faye
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Dragonfruit flower :-) I have some Dragon fruit plants here in Ireland but having to grow them indoors, they are tiny compared to yours though :-) thanks so much for sharing and sending heaps of love and happiness from Ireland XXXX
I only have 1 variety. There were huge flowers 3 months ago but nothing turned into a fruit. Now, I've seen little buds, how can I help it to bear many fruits? Thanks.
I have the same problem you have I only have one dragon fruit plant so I'm going to do what you did self-pollinate it myself.
I join your channel today very interesting vedieos I love what I've watched so far
look at the roots! I'd love to buy cuttings!
Love the lights!!!! Lol
You are awesome. I have 2 dragon fruit flowers in my Earthship that are ready to bloom tonight. For the first time one of the other species is about ready to bloom also. It is much smaller and reddish all the others have been white and large like the one in your video. I will attempt to pollinate the two white with the red one. Wish me luck so far I hav not been able to produce any fruit on them.
My Agod ! I made a huge mistake !!! I thought the little flower isdidemid the male ! So I sut it and scrub i along all the hairy parts inside the middle part of the flowers ! I did 10 of them already !!! 4 more are blooming tonight !
glad I caught your video ! Thanks a lot !! a
ahow sad ! I killed 11 dragon fruits !!!!!
thank you for the video i have a dozen growing big here in phx !!!
Wow, so beautiful my friend 🌿🌱🍃
nice videos man, finally decided to sub today haha. very cool to have had the patience of 3 years to receive a single harvest. Great grow man keep it up
Most Dragon flowers are self fertile and have alot of pollen - Home grow taste amazing over store bought
so I hope they ripen well for you - Ripening tip is --- wait for the flower to dry and nearly or fall off and are ready to eat -
enjoy
come to boulder Colorado its the healthiest town in america.start school u would make big $$ and I could take a class
Good idea Nezzy! I love Boulder. I did a lot of my Martial Arts training there
0:00 when ur telling spooky storys and u try and scare someone
I just love your videos, so full of information . You make them fun to watch, so educational and super inspiring. Looking forward to having my Strawberry Pitaya’s bloom here in Desert Hot Springs which is right next to Palm Springs Calif. If you can do it there in the Arizona Desert, than surely I can here in the severely hot summers of DHS ! Thx Jake ! Suki in DHS
PS…. really like the lights and God said, “ Let there be Light “ ! Too cute. :D
nice video, but your technique is good for other flowers, not really for hylo cactus or other types... in side the stigma, there is a tiny hole that goes all the way back to the ovary... by just shaking the pollen, it is not enough to make it go through... you have to pretty much pour the pollen into the hole in the middle of the stigma... i'm sure you got some fruits, but most hybridizers pack the hole of the stigma with pollen with a small piece of cardstock or plastic...
gracias me gustó tu vídeo y tu lámpara más
All your videos are great.. Thanks...
Omg I can't wait for d result
REALLY very good speech brother Jake👍👍✌
Thanks for sharing . Gona be growing theese next year :)

lol the power of light :) how long intill you notice change it the flower
Great thumbnail on this one.
Super Video, loved it. Nicely presented
Thanks!
i have dragon fruit just open flower a while ago i ill do what i saw in your garden
Assuming it is self fertile and it will produce a fruit now, will it be ready before the cold weather of winter?
It's strange how I've seen images of that flower open up during the day online.
I planted 9 dragon fruit seeds in a tub on the weekend & kept the rest aside for later so knowing how to hand pollinating the flower will become useful to me in a couple of years.
We do also have bats & moths which can pollinate the flowers.
Don't expect flowers in two years - it normally takes 5-6 years (or more) to get the first flower, and then you should have them each year afterwards.
This is THE VIDEO I was looking for.
Just went out midnight with a soft brush to tickle our known to be self polinating red dragon fruit cactus.
Two flowers open and with the torch there was such a Big shower of pollen thatbtgere was plenty to share between the flowers. Will be looking forward to compare the fruit size after human intervention
It, crosspolination, often makes fruit bigger
Very informative and interesting!
And it worked brother!
Good for you
Thank you lovely when is the right time to hand pollinate because flower stays open till next morning
Jake has everything
I'm interesting for your video. I have plants in south Italy
That was amazing!
i was going to ask you if that was the camera lady's contour brush your using... 😂😂
Is there a video of how it went?
Wow! Beautiful!
Great video!!! Loved it
Wow amazing thank you sooo much!
how long the flower stands before it dried?
1 day
.... Let there be light... haha
Haha! :)
Can we mix the pollen of several flowers, and then apply as needed?
Good to see you
Hello Jake, Do you need to do this on every flower?
Depends on variety. If you have many insects do the work for you
This is AWESOME!😍😍😍😍😍
HAVE U TRIED CHANGE FERT. DIFFERENTLY?? MAYBE PRODUCE MORE FRUIT W/DIFFERENT FOOD[S] [NUTRITION] ?
So where did you get the LED HEADBAND? lol Great video!
Could you give a link for the update of this video
boulder is vegan friendly a big farmers market and the biggest college is there. very clean $$$
I love Boulder
good job
great informations thanks buddy
good clear video
how long did it take you to grow that dragon fruit ? was it from seed ??
I can't understand why after hand pollinating all my flowers lot of them just die... I cross pollinate them, i collect all pollen of different flowers together in a cup and i use it
Thanks. I'm still trying to figure if Christmas cactus are in same family as dragon fruit. I have several types of the former and also young white dragon fruit. The Christmas cactus thrive but have never formed fruit. I have yet to see dragon fruit flower, but yours is similar in form to my other cactus. please show us more as you learn.
it is very complicated to get them to fruit... or to cross pollinate... i usually cut off most of the pedals from the top... carefully... then wait until the stemen and pollen stretch out and the pollen is released.. it's very hard to get the pollen into the tiny hole of the stigma...
i have th same plant, and I call it "midnight lady"
Thank you. Nice one
Thank you sir
Woh, Excellent!🤙😂
Today new year 2023 . wer was this plant purchase form ??
I heard that the flower is fragrant but my flower opened today and zero smell Nada but it's the same white flower 🤷♀️ does that mean my fruit will be tasteless 😭😭😭
The very first second of the video scared me🤣
Pollen stays viable for only a few days
Yep
I think to pollinate the flower 10 second is enough
I have done exactly that to 12 flowers and not one have set, I do not know what to do next
How long did it take from bud to flower and then to fruit?
Nice info!!💄😃🍻🍺🎈
