How Frozen Could Have Been Drastically Different (Disney)

  • Do you wanna... dive into the icey and dicy (and even demonic!) origin of Disney's "Frozen?" With Frozen 2 upon us, in today's animated adventure, we dig into the classic tale "The Snow Queen" as well as Disney's own artbook to see just how much this story has changed. While princesses Anna and Elsa have pretty epic and heartwarming quests of their own, the classic Andersen tale it is based off of is even more of an actual epic - spanning 7 stories, over a year's journey, and several encounters with near-death. High adventure awaits in this multi-season saga set in motion by a devilish mirror... well, you'll see how that all ties in! Anyway, sit back with some hot cocoa and join me as we compare Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen" to Disney's beloved "Frozen!"

They said Prince Hans may be the representation of the mirror in Frozen, as he always acts like the person he is talking to. Also, he reveals his true plan after he sees himself in the mirror. After he sees his reflection, he takes his gloves off.....and gloves are a very important symbol in Disney movies. Look it up!

I remember reading this story when I was a child and falling in love with it. What I loved was the focus on friendship as opposed to romance, and the moral to be good and kind as opposed to the heroine being beautiful above all else. You told the story brilliantly and gave it so much life, and I thank you for it. Hated "Frozen" though. Terrible movie. It was as "original" as "The Lion King" was, wasn't it 😂?

    • @chrismill5303
      @chrismill5303 Před rokem +2

i love "the snow queen", it's top one if i could rank stories (following closely would be wilde's "the fisherman and his soul"). this is a truer love story than the kissy ones, focusing on the connection between two people instead of simple "destiny" and then poof! happily ever after. what got me was kay's task to make the ice shards spell ETERNITY and with all his newfound cleverness, he couldn't figure it out. because the answer was something beyond himself.
not too fond of "frozen" either but i did think it was entertaining. as for "the lion king", i've also seen clips of "bambi" and goodness, how disney has an expertise in making animals behave flirtatiously. it embarrassed me as a kid.

I always wondered why he left her and went with that witch instead, it always made me sad to think of them separated and how cold and distant he was. Now I'm always left with a sad bitter feeling whenever I think of that movie, but Frozen is different, it was such a sweet movie and I'm glad they went with a happier tone.

As it's mentioned, the boy knows only of math and wants to impress the ice queen. Seeing as Elsa's castle is perfectly created by her and looks just about perfect in symmetry and what not, it could be a nod to the math/puzzles. Another wonderful video!

The Snow Queen is honestly my favourite fairy tale ever. I seriously grew to love it when the school prepared a musical for it! It was our ballet class, singing class and teachers together and it was magical! On the first play we had, I was only in the ballet class and we were the embodiement of the snowflakes. Later, once we decided to do it again, I was also in the singing part and we were this...storyteller? who was keeping company to Gerda and at the same time was invissible to her. I also danced the mirror fragments and that was really cool too! I enjoyed it so much and I am sad that now, because of Covid, nothing like this can be done again...

      Anyways on to the updates!
      1) I got cast as Gerda, which I now think is better because she has more stage time and interaction with other characters.
      2) NEVER audition for this show! The writers didn't adapt it well, and the music/song writer evidently does not sing, as the notes for the singers are more like instrumentals.
      3) We opened on Feb. 7th, and are closing tomorrow, and aside from missing most of the cast, everyone is glad it's almost over! Show has gotten great attendance/reception, despite it being Madri Gras weekend here in the south.
      Thanks for the well-wishes!

Interestingly enough, I was made aware of the true story of The Snow Queen from a game called Lobotomy Corporation. An abnormality in the game shares the same name and can 'kiss' your employees, the first one putting a shard of ice in their chest and the second freezing them in the containment chamber. You then have to send someone to go save them, and if you succeed roses bloom in the unit temporarily.
It's super awesome to finally get to know the whole story from this video!

That feeling when the original story was my favourite fairy tale when I was little and I've seen like three movies. I highly recommend all three of them. Two are not that dark and more happy and the last one is pretty dark.
And then there's that newer animated movie I've also seen but I don't really count it cause it was changed and has two continuations which are like ,,Whaaat the- How did you even come up with this?!"
But yeah, it's funny that in our country (dunno about you guys) we all know most of the fairy tales in their original version. And we don't really realize it's that creepy. xD
We're just used to stories in which evil sisters cut their toes off to get their foot in a slipper, wolf's whose stomachs are cut open and filled with rocks so they would fall in a well when they want water, mermaids whose every step is like walking on thousand knives, who eventually DON'T get a happy ending and turn into...I don't know how it's called in English, sorry xD
