  • I don’t talk often about vst on the channel, but I think there is no better period than during black friday to talk about vst, so if you like them too, you can grab them as a great price..

      One of the sickest channels out here! Do you plan on making content in English, or transcribing the videos at least (youtube sometimes does a bad job or offers no subtitles), I was so sad when I saw the only Kai Tracid masterclass online but I don’t understand enough German to buy it😢

    Ones worth mentioning is
    - Rob Papen RAW Kick & Punch2 (punch BD too)
    - TRK01 for Reaktor
    - Synsonic BD-909 (free mac,win)
    There's many more but usable in Techno those are worth checking out as well the ones mentioned in the video. Of course you can make kicks in operator or sylenth1 but it's fun to have some other stuff

    • @audioreakt
      @audioreakt  Před 7 měsíci +2

      yes I heard about that rob papen one, need to ry out indeed. The synsonic I know but for 808/909 I think ableton did a great job with their core kit especially since live 11. TRK01 I might need to check too , heard about it but never really made me take the plunge

    Great video, I learned about Chop Suey from you now, and now I need to have it. Looks so much cleaner than chopping and rendering in Ableton. :)
    I have one suggestion to add. But before it, I'll just say that I cannot imagine working on kicks without Psyscope as a visualizer. Especially to tame the dynamic range or length. And fit kicks with rumble and basses.
    But my main suggestion is Phase Plant. It became my go-to kick synth.
    It's a "generic" synth (though more like a modular in a box), but there are a few features that make it amazing for percussion synthesis and kicks:
    - It has a "Curve" type of envelope, which can be any shape, whether time- or tempo-based. So I can set the length to a quarter note and have a super precise volume or pitch envelopes matching my tempo. Edit it in any way you like.
    - Layering, including analog waves, wavetables, samples, granular, and noise. And process together. Anything can be FMd, including filter FM, or sample FM (!).
    - Disperser effect (paid extra), which might not be exactly for techno (more like psytrance zappy kicks), but used in moderation makes for very cool effect and actually reduces kick peaks.
    - Many great sounding distortions, filters, and dynamics effects all in one plugin. And you can apply those same super-precise curves to automate their parameters. So I can distort just the punch of one layer and leave the tail clean. Or the other way around.
    - Their transient shaper with clipper is amazing for percussions. So much better than Drum Bus "transient" knob. And this is also in their free bundle.
    - With Snapheap and Multipass you get amazing multiband processing. Basically insert *any* effect in any band. So not just multiband distortion or dynamics, but multiband everything and a complex combo. (The only disadvantage is that it's not linear phase, so can change the timbre and make transients less snappy).
    I very highly recommend it, even if just for curves - no Ableton built-in synth has such curve controls.
    In a similar fashion, when not using PP, I use Shaperbox to add some effects and precise curve shaping.

      @@audioreakt Opal is on sale for $41 right now (usually $60), so it's a great time to pick it up! I just got it a few weeks ago and it's the best money I've spent on a software instrument in years. Would be worth the money for the sequencer alone IMO.

  • @jaminjones8784
    @jaminjones8784 Před 7 měsíci

    FYI for anyone considering PunchBox - just be aware it's not compatible with Apple silicon (M1/M2 chips), and D16 isn't planning to update. Can still be used if you run your DAW in Rosetta mode, it's just a bit of a pain and can impact performance. D16 is working on a V2 version that will be compatible, but it will be a paid upgrade.
    Also, Opal by Fors (Max for Live device, not VST) is another I'd add to the list. Really cool groove-box inspired drum synth plugin by former Elektron employees. Has an amazing sequencer and 4 different synth engines - a couple of them are excellent for making kicks.
