Also, in their discord there is a skin replica of Virus TI plugin controller that you can see the wavetables and so... man, they should sell as plugin without hardware like the UAD is doing now... If I remember, there is a Virus ITB for ProTool users, why not release for the masses

      The originator of the DSP emulator was forced by Kemper to cease and desist from the project and is no longer involved - after TUS approached Kemper and asked if they would license the firmware. So there is little to no chance that Kemper will sell the firmware, at least not without overwhelming number of users demanding it... Waldorf (Micro Q and Microwave XT) seem to be operating under a don't ask-don't tell strategy, also failing to provide licenses without the synth.

      Because some effects, like chorus, won't trigger exactly same in time, I believe. Also, the oscillators and filter settings may introduce some nonlinearities over time, which excludes making it same sample by sample. But as this is the chip emulation, what I'm doing in the vid is that I'm running exactly same software synth, which is housed in my rack. Its THE SAME MACHINE :)

      It’s not a vst remake of it.. the motorolla DSP is emulated and the original virus OS is run on the emulator as designed. It sounds exactly the same as a TI because it is the TI.

    Having just watched your AI music vid (of 1 month ago), why is Access' copyright on its Virus firmware be such a problem if AI could create a new "virtual analog" synth modeled after the Virus, with a UI modeled after it, and with presets (and unlimited new sounds and variations) based on Virus presets, and with better, more opended-specs, and possibilities, and audio quality? After all, Virus itself is very much a clone of analog electronics with digital improvements...

    Kemper should sell Access Virus IP to someone who cares about the community and can manage capital to produce a new generation of Virus TI 3.
    Perhaps TI 3 with built in sequencer and arp / scene switches and OneShot mode patches (like drum kits or how BassStation II one shot mode across each key))

    Good comparison...
    The Terratec Komplexer was a VSTi 'clone' of the Waldorf MicroQ.
    Komplexer will load MicroQ sys-ex.
    The DSP56300 VAVRA VST is NOT a clone of the MicroQ.
    I loaded same MicroQ Factory banks sys-ex on Komplexer.
    Sounds completely different than loading SAME MicroQ Factory banks sys-ex on DSP56300 Varva.
    Terratec Komplexer was a VSTi is a vst/dsp 'clone' that ran their own code and build to build the Komplexer VST.
    DSP56300 VAVRA VST is running same original firmware of the Waldorf MicroQ.
    VAVRA isn't a clone, either... just like OSTIRUS isn't a clone.
    I'm really amazed by 'what' DSP56300 project has done.
    Waldorf Microwave II/XT is coming in the near future as well.

    • @B-a_s-H
      @B-a_s-H Před měsícem

      Komplexer was an aproximation of the Micro Q, Vavra is a clone (exact copy). The DSP is identical and so if the firmware running on top of that.

  • @gabrielegelfofx

    I think Christoph Kemper should release an official and optimized VST version of this synth. It sounds great but the emulation of the Motorola dsp introduces some cpu spikes. Spire, more or less, has the same features and presets and runs very smooth and it's more punchy. The magic of hardware synths comes from the dacs, the OsTirus sound is raw and needs a good equalization. Modern virtual synthesizers are developed trying to replicate the analog side of the dacs+preamplifiers characteristics.

    • @Chalisque
      @Chalisque Před měsícem +1

      But if you use a TI with the VST, the audio is sent to the machine over USB and bypasses the DAC. As for an optimised VST, that would mean rewriting the 24bit fixed point DSP to use integer maths on an x86/ARM, and working out how to use the vector registers for efficiency. Since the Virus firmware is written with a lot of DSP-specific assembly this will not be easy.

      I do believe Mr Kemper will return to the Synth Arena one day. He'll eventually get bored of those long haired 6 to 8 string strummers. It's a shame that the guitar planet is larger than the synth one. His bank account and the man himself is happier I guess compared to the Virus days.

  • @RayTheProducer
    @RayTheProducer Před měsícem

    I’ve looked into this a few times, but to be honest, it’s a kind of a pain in the ass to use. I also think the Virus is a wee bit overrated and has been surpassed by the many many wonderful soft synths that have been released over the last decade or so: Spire, Hive 2, Lush 2, Viper (a clone), VPS Avenger, the GForce stuff, the Softube Models, UVI, and even the Arturia collections. Remember Sylenth? Disco DSP Discovery? Yeah. There’s not a whole lot you can do with a Virus that you can’t do with software. Is it nostalgia? Or price? I think the odds that Kemper will release their firmware as software are exactly zero, lol. Personally, I’d rather fire up Model 72 and Synth Anthology 4 in Live if I wanted to make some banging electronic music, and not waste my time faffing around with this homemade non-emulator.
