I take this line every day for work. It’s trippy to see the line and the area surrounding it completely different.

And its so cool to see the Southwest Corridor before the overhead wires!

I have the faintest childhood memories of Amtrak F40’s roaring along with Amfleets at 100mph before the wires were there. I cherish those memories!

@@mbrproductions160 I'm barely old enough! My 5 year old self watched them put up the wires right behind my house! I'm also lucky that my grandfather bought a house along the NEC in Boston!

The overhead wires connect electrical poles that still exist today, but with even more structures.

Great footage, I was 5 months old the day this footage was recorded. Crazy but so cool to see what the old South Station looked like. I kinda of remember it a bit.

"Prototype" Acela at the end of the video - attached to a gas turbine train (in the front) since there was no wires past New Haven yet.

I was wondering if someone would spot the surprise in the video!! Glad you enjoyed it :)

That is the Swedish X2000, a train used to demo high-speed service along the NEC between New York and DC. While not technically related to the Acela, it helped Amtrak figure out what they wanted in a high-speed train.
