  • What is tanking? How does tanking stop damp? What is a damp course breach?
    In this video, John explains how to use tanking slurry (a liquid coating made from cements, quality graded aggregates and chemical modifiers) to create an impermeable, waterproof barrier that prevents damp penetrating the plasterboard.
    This end terraced house in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent has several damp issues that need correcting before the owner can relet it.
    John also highlights the importance of heating and ventilation to prevent black mould caused by condensation.
    In this particular property, we are fitting insulated plasterboard to help improve thermal values and prevent cold spots.

      @andy man Thanks so much for watching and for your feedback. As with most things, there will be people who love it and people who don't. But we have also found, through our many years in the trade, that this method works well. As it did in this particular case.
      Thanks again 🙂 Stay tuned 👍

    Great editing again lad 🎉, bit over the top with the waterproofing only needed to be where the raised ground was, I would also look at fixing the insulated plasterboard with Dry grip & not dry wall adhesive, 👍

      Thanks for watching and leaving us your thoughts, Sam. Yes, it might be a little OTT but we'd rather that than have to go back and do things twice 🙂👍

    Just found your channel and I’m glued to it,
    I’m a carpenter doing mostly new builds so this is all new to me,
    Just one question,
    Because it’s end of terrace the walls each side of the chimney breast have black mould,
    But what about the front and back walls of the property, ( and all the mid terraced properties)
    Shouldn’t they all have black mould on them as well? As there exposed to the elements as much as the gable end,
    Loving your videos, and learning a lot ,
    Keep them coming for us amateurs
    Thanks

      Hi there. Yes, you're right. Any external wall can be problematic when it comes to mould (i.e. hot on the inside and cold on the outside) and can suffer from condensation. The mould normally grows on the coldest spot that is unventilated - normally the corners of the room.
      The reason end terraces suffer more is because they have an additional external wall (gable) which is huge. Therefore, a much bigger surface area exposed to the elements - and a higher risk of cold spots. It's usually the case that end terraces cost more to heat in winter, too, for the same reason.
      Hope that helps.
      We're absolutely thrilled that you're enjoying the videos and really pleased that they're helping - makes it all worthwhile when we get feedback like that 😊Thanks for watching. We really appreciate it. Stay tuned for (many) more videos 😀👍

    Hi John love the videos.
    Am i right in saying you only use tanking slury on bricks, not stone?
    If you had this problem with an old stone building where no DPC was installed, what would be the fix?

    • @HYPEBuilding
      @HYPEBuilding  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Kris. Sincere thanks for watching and for your great feedback 😀👌
      For this scenario (working with stone), we would personally use the products on this page: www.pamties.co.uk/product-category/damp/damp-proofing-damp/
      If you use the tanking membrane, this should be a good solution to your problem.
      Hope that helps, buddy 👍

    Is there a particular tanking product you recommend?

      Hi Farouq. Thanks for watching and for your question. We tend to use Drybase Tanking Slurry: www.safeguardeurope.com/products/drybase/drybase-tanking-range/drybase-tanking-slurry Every trade will have their own preference but we've not had any issues with this product.
      Hope that helps, Farouq 👍

    Can you dot and dab over a tanked wall

    • @HYPEBuilding
      @HYPEBuilding  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi there. Thank you for your question. Personally, we prefer to use a panel adhesive because it's impermeable. Dot and dab is an option but there is still the possibility that the bonding will draw moisture - whereas panel adhesive won't.
      Thank you for watching our video - we really appreciate it 👍🙂
