  • In this video we try out our new winch by winching a few logs up our steep property. We encounter a few problems with the winch mount but we work through them. We get the logs ready to swichback direcition on the way to the house.

    You did a good job. It was nice to see you working with and teaching your boy. I found that once I got used to using my PCW5000 I could load almost anything. The winch is incredible. I hope you try milling some of those logs. Theres even move value there. Well done!

    Nice video. Children grow so quickly, enjoy them while you can. Years ago I dragged a giant tree out of a pond type setting using only a a cheap 3500 lb. pull electric winch strapped to a tree. I almost couldn't believe it myself. Today using snatch blocks you can pull entire trees over and eliminate stump removal.

  • @netromrep6325
    @netromrep6325 Před rokem +2

    I use a technique with two blocks in the other tree in difficult terrain. The first block to make the line from the winch level, and the second one higher up in the tree to create lift on the log.

    Your property's a bit like mine, and I'm also finding out that even with a PCW 5000, dragging a log uphill ain't all that easy. Your little boy made me laugh. I have three of my own plus a daughter, all grown and on their own. Wonderfull.

    Thank you for this video. Why you didn't show everything, we can see plenty enough to understand that it works. Quite slow indeed, but nevertheless, it seems more efficient and logical, and certainly less damaging to the forest soil than a lot of huge powerful skidders that we can see bouncing about, smoking much, and getting stuck everywhere, sinking deeply and completely smashing the forest soil, that we can see in so many videos.

    I just watched the video from portable winch the other day. It’s only one of their machines equipped with the oil sensor switch?

    What happens when you over load the winch? Dose the rope just slip on the drum? I just broke the grears inside my lewis style winch due to no safety.

    • @ruralcityliving9271
      @ruralcityliving9271  Před 3 lety

      Hi, thanks for watching. Sorry for the slow reply. If you overload the winch it will bog down and stall the engine. I have only had this happen to me once. I added a snatch block and two parted the pull and it no longer had an issue pulling it.

    Your boy did just like mine with getting spooked by a sudden engine start! Terrific video. Have you considered a log arch in place of the skid come?

    • @ruralcityliving9271
      @ruralcityliving9271  Před měsícem

      I have considered that for sure. Would need to have a wider stance than a regular arch to stop it from tipping over but would definitely help with less friction.

    • @ruralcityliving9271
