Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Hudba
Lupe FINALLY gets a yellow flannel. even more impressive that this album was freestyled/recorded in 72 hrs. masterpiece.
🥘
That explains the minimalistic lyrics
I'm not the biggest fan of Lupe's music, and much less a fan of his takes, but Tetsuo & Youth and Drogas Wave were easy yellow flannels. Both were 9s tbh, I get why DW didnt get one tho bc there were some questionable hooks and corny parts littered throughout. But T&Y getting a 7 is criminal
It's genuinely so fucking good.
ofc its not freestyled. Have you heard his actual freestyles?
Side note: Lupe made this album in 72 hours, using GarageBand and a $100 microphone
in a cave with a box of scraps
And his vocal chords ripped out
While walking up hill both ways
The man is a samurai what do yall expect.
I think this is less of a side note and more of a fun fact with a little bit of chefs kiss and finished off with no cap
Lupe Fiasco deserves so much more love than he’s gotten honestly
right he's a lyrical legend
@ariestiger michael 🤡Lupe was popular in the mid 00s and just he’s not as popular as before and that’s every artist
@@Newportnews98 exactly I think him dissing Obama definitely did do him some harm tho
Facts he’s goat lyricist/rapper imo
Maybe if he wasn’t kind of a massive dork
I still can't believe he recorded this record in 3 days. Some artists could spend a whole year & can't produce an LP as potent as this one.
And drake made his trash in a week 😭
A lot of it has to do with his ability to go off the dome, and punch in lines without writing anything, the way his mind works is insane if you watched some his IG lives. He was coming up with the verses for Seattle on IG live, rappers would be embarrassed to try that in front of hundreds of people watching lol.
Don't you mean "wrote"?
Because as impressive as it is to record in 3 days, he could've been sitting with the material for a while. Writing to beats and just rapping aloud to himself. He could've rehearsed it a ton.
If you have all your material prepared, recording in 3 days is pretty feasible for most artists - saves hella money on studio time as well
@@ryannishikawa1356 nah on Twitter he says he wrote and recorded everything in 72 hours. So he had no lyrics written down he literally wrote and recordeded in 72 hours
@@Gintoki_Madao honestly I like that record
Bro made an album with garageband and a usb mic, and recorded the whole LP in three days and got an 8. Thats really impressive if you ask me.
That's really 🧢 if you ask me
@@alec57 its not though
@Alec where's your LP? Where's you positive feedback from Fanthony Antono
You would've given it a 10 if the album was titled "Ridge Wallets in Zion"
if the album was titles “to pimp a drill music in zion’s m.a.a.d city” it’d be an instant 15/10
So true
Lupe is really climbing the ranks on everyone’s top lists. He is one of the greatest rappers of all time
He is lyrically the absolute best. Nobody can rap objectively better than him.
He should've been up on people's ranks
He's been in my top five for a long time
Easily i don’t see anyone beating him lyrically the kendricks n coles are lyrically a 5 when u bring someone like lupe into discussion
@@ShizAudi what about Aesop Rock? Not trying to diss Lupe but Aesop is also an absolute menace lyrically.
Incredible how this deep into his career Lu is still putting out some of the best conscious hip hop out there. Well deserved yellow flannel.
God I hate that term
@@RS-qz6by 💯
Ok what's the significance of the flannel? Is like indicative of how much he enjoyed this? Like does yellow mean he's gonna give it a great review, and other colors not so much?
His mixtapes are some of the best hip hop music in history, you should check it out
@@RS-qz6by so does lupe lmao
I’m the guy that organized the fiasco Friday protest for LASERS against Atlantic Records and it’s amazing to see Lupe just still killing it and achieving what I knew he would now that’s he’s independent

I was looking forward to this review. Lupe has an incredible discography. Arguably one of the best emcees of all time imo.
Definitely one of the best
@@TheRat900 You have to analyze the things he says to understand it. None of his lyrics are surface level.
@@TheRat900 obviously don't read the lyrics or care about different styles of lyricism. There isn't one way to express ideas. Doesn't mean you gotta like it but to say rambling about nothing..............

@@eatdoritoyum yeah, we all know he doesn't like it either. Was forced from the label 😔
Lupe doesn’t make “bangers”, he make Rembrandts. The true GOAT.
Can assure you Lupe fiasco is one of those artists that’ll be far more appreciated in future generations than now
Can't wait to show my children “Kick, Push” someday. Inspired me and many others to pick up skateboarding as a hobby.🛹
@@dyllgood it's interesting to me how differently things are viewed in retrospect. fans new and old alike can appreciate the greatness of F&L, but since skateboarding isnt as big a thing with teens now, bewer fans probably find other tracks from the album more standout than Kick Push
I think that he is MF Doom of 2010s.
Always felt that he’ll only get the large acclaim and praise when he passes away like other artists.
Dogg! He is too ahead.
So happy for Lupe. Seemed to get back to his groove with this project since Tetsuo & youth.
Cool profile pic. Love that album!
i love thundercat
Drogas Wave is better than dmiz
@@RevengeTWOD hasn’t even let the new album properly breath yet
Drogas Wave was Dope, one of the best of 2010s
Lupe finally getting a yellow flannel on the channel is so great to see
Lyrical miracle
Lupe has really been on a run with the last few albums
@Perverted Alchemist that album was made to be a throwaway/mainstream album so Atlantic Records wouldn’t get any money from Tetsuo & Youth
@@arbitore6759 how so?
When you put your art above everything casual fans will fall off and that's exactly what Lupe wants. Fans that can understand and appreciate his work are much better than half hearted fans who jump ship the moment you don't bow to their will. I have, and will always, see Lupe as a legend weather he tops charts or not.
Well put
Same!!👍
Agreed 👏
Also his best album cover since Tetsuo & Youth
Agreed.
I love that he paints them all himself
I was looking forward to this review. Lupe has an incredible discography.
Given the teaser of Autoboto I was nervous about the overall outcome of what could become this project. It came off more like a Drogas Light or TapeTape like track. Nonetheless, I'm loving this project and never regretted getting into Lupe's music way back when. Been nothing but amazing albums, random tracks, and mixtapes alike.
Yeah I felt kinda meh about AUTOBOTO and really tried to like and then was amused when I realizes its the weakest track in the album.
I think it was kind of like a kendrick “i” situation where it seemed oddly surface level as a single, but fit right into the narrative of the album once it dropped
I love Autoboto. I wouldn't have been mad if we got a Carrera Lu like album full of slappers
Autoboto definitely had me concerned specifically with the chorus but it actually kinda grew on me.
@@solodolotrevino With the number of singles he put out after the Royce "diss" he could have dropped one, easily.
When I was a teenager, my friends and I saw Lupe play at a festival and I caught a water bottle that he threw in the crowd. We used it as a GB to smoke out of when we got home, thinking we were so cool. Now im spiritually connected to Lupe forever.
Bruh
I know the record might not make the waves that it should but I have to applaud him trying to state the exact issue I have always had with drill music. HIs perspective is way more potent being actually from Chicago and literally watching people he cares about die to gun violence. This album surprised me and its great that I can still say that about an artist I have been listening to since 2006.
Lupe Fiasco is one of the greatest artists in Hip-Hop history.
as someone who’s worked as a mall kiosk employee (making custom tees, heat press jewelry and other novelty items) I gotta say that track slapped. Was relatable, yet somehow revealing about our economy. Rich or poor you’re a victim to deceit. It’s a fire album. I love the closing ON FAUX NEM. Ik its on foe nem, chicago slang for on my mama or persons. You can also see his criticism of ny/chicago drill music with lyrics in the song. If you rearrange the title you can see why Lupe used faux instead of Foe. He thinks drill rappers are fake to their culture every if they aren’t lying in their songs about the crimes they do. Gun violence is at an all time high yet these rappers keep rapping about killing each other, owning guns, sending shooters and we see year after year a few of these young men lose their lives. Rip. I like how this album is like a social commentary on the rap industry, our problems with christianity, Lu goes off and kinda bridges together the concept of Drill Music in Zion. Its kinda a presentation of society and maybe his feelings on his genre. To be out of place (drill music, loud/violent) in zion (Utah, national park, calm and beautiful). He’s either out of touch with these young guys or his critiques are letting us know that they are the ones out of touch and going about the music and their gang life the wrong way. Either way this album was deep, jazzy, Bars on bars on bars. Rap album of the year despite lack of sale/popularity. 9/10
It feels like Lupe his a crossroads awhile back where he could either respond to professional disappointment by disappearing up his own as or double down on using his art to speak to a broader audience and he chose the latter. And while I doubt he ever gets the broader audience he truly wants, I think he's chosen the right path. He's continued to push himself and grow well past the point of most of his peers and reaching an audience that isn't him is the main motivating reason, imo.
He's betting on himself. We'll catch up.
He said he was just collecting a check and going to work after F&L up until T&Y cuz the situation with Atlantic. (drogas lite was just to get out that contract for good it was just vault songs)
he aint even trying bruh he just having fun with it. he already solidified as a great. he will SLR any rapper.
Chill with the unnecessary $3 words you sound like Twitter
I think you got Lupe mischaracterized, he never really cared about crossing over into the mainstream like that. He made the choices he did for a reason.
Atlantic was going to make lupe into a household name …. He chose no
Really appreciate the review, Anthony!! Been a fan of Lupe since I first heard F&L back in 2006. Listening to DMIZ reminded me of how much I enjoyed and replayed T&Y after it was released. This might even be my favourite album of his since then
The most surprising album for me in a long time. I’ve never been big on Lupe but man this is a fantastic album.
I’m glad you liked it! Lupe is easily one of my favorite MCs, and every album so far has been great. I don’t like this one quite as much as the conceptual opus that was DROGAS WAVE, but it’s still a solid follow up that I’ll definitely be coming back to.
Lupe Fiasco is one of the best of all-time. Give this mane the love and respect he deserves 😤.
Discovered Lupe with this album. Drogas, F&L, and T&Y have all become some of my favorite albums. Super talented guy.
The Cool is his best album. You gotta listen...
@@Sam-uh1lv agreed
T & Y so underrated it’s crazy
I cannot stop listening to this album. It's so lyrically powerful.
Right!!
It seems like a lot of rappers are hitting their 40s and continuing to evolve
unlike professional sports, your body doesn't give out on you. when you're a rapper who focuses on the words more than anything else, your wisdom and age can become a tool.
wow, lupe fiascos music is real artistry, he manages to get an 8 on his album that was recorded in 72 hours with a $100 mic and beats produced on GarageBand, while other artists studio music which takes months to make and still isnt as good as this one
that’s crazy lmao
It's shows how experienced is he
really shows how much of a nerd Lupe is when he said he got the influence to record the album in 3 days from the Japanese concept of finding imperfection beautiful lol
No one cares about that lie. He never made that album in 3 days. But naive kids like you will eat it up.
Is this a book?
What’s the name ?
@@taetweaking Wabi-Sabi
Where did he say that he got the insipiration for the Album from Wabi Sabi?
this album is the best integration of jazz and rap music i’ve ever heard, and that integration is long, LONG overdue. i’ve been a jazz focused tenor/baritone sax player since i was 13 (i’m now 21) and also come from a city where many of the social issues he highlights in this album are impossible to avoid. i’m so glad somebody made an album like this and i’m even happier it was lupe. i’ve been listening to him since elementary school 🤙
This album was incredible
This album is so amazing. Lupe is one in a million with how he makes projects. Can’t believe he doesn’t get more love
great to see Lupe back in his element
He been back in his element since T&Y, which Fantano should re-review.
Wtf is u talm bout. He BEEN on a run. Tetsuo, drogas waves, house ep, drill music.
One of the best albums I’ve heard in awhile. I knew Lupe was going to come through for us, but I honestly didn’t expect myself to love the project THIS much. It gets better with every single listen. I thought to myself “wow, I haven’t heard an album that hit like this since TPAB”, so I thought it was funny that Melon put that exact vinyl in the background. AOTY so far in my opinion, and this is coming from a Kendrick-Stan, and someone who really enjoyed Conway’s album as well.
I love your constant references to other artists. Gonna follow up on so many things melon said. ThanK!
In my opinion this is one of the best albums of the year so far. What I really enjoy is the succinctness of it. I find Lupe's biggest flaw throughout his career has been an inability to edit himself, leading to albums that either contain some half-baked tracks or a density and length that can feel overwhelming and intimidating. On Drill Music in Zion, it feels like not a moment has been wasted. The short length even encourages repeated listens so you can really absorb the stellar lyrics and production. I'm glad that 15 years after Food & Liquor, Lupe's challenge to himself to create this album in 3 days has given him a new and fruitful approach to his work.
This is my personal AOTY. I absolutely love every single track on it, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet despite listening through it 15+ times.
Verses and narrative are just on point in this album
FINALLY giving Lupe the respect he deserves.
This has been a fantastic year for rap. Denzel Curry, Conway the Machine, Kendrick and Lupe have all dropped great fucking albums and we’re barely past the halfway mark in the year. Even logic, token and Westside Boogie put out solid records and really impressed me. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for the genre
Earl Sweatshirt as well!
don't forget my boy pusha!
Push had a solid drop as well. Hopefully we get another Freddie Gibbs or Joey Badass project this year 🙏
Ngl that token album was cheeks, the rest were awesome though
Drake as well 💀
I can't say I like DMIZ more than Dorgas Wave at this moment but it's solid.
Thank you for giving Lupe his flowers. Also really glad you enjoyed this record.
Really enjoyed the album. Lupe is a generational talent. Ms. Mural is a gorgeous song. I’ve noticed from a few different reviews that he doesn’t really seem to dig some of the lower energy songs like “Seattle” from this album or “Rich Spirits” from Kendrick’s album as much. But those tend to be the songs that I go back and listen to the most frequently because they’re smooth and easy listening for me personally. Different strokes I guess.
Really need to hear this album n I really appreciate this video.
Lupe might have one of the best discography in all hip hop
Some might say 5 classics. At minimum 2(which is still insane)
🧢
@@alec57 explain “alec”
@@joshlarson407 He's got 8 albums and I'd only consider his first two "classics". Tetsuo and Youth is close but it's just not cohesive enough for me to consider it as such. So maybe 3 out of 8 at best. Definelty wouldn't call it the best discography in all of Hip-Hop. That's crazy lol
@@alec57 I said he has at minimum 2, the OP said “might have one of the best” come on man. You said not cohesive enough, I say it is and it’s early but DMIZ and Drogas Wave will be in time, especially to me. So it’s a valid thing to say lmao go be peace
I've been a fan of chill, more conscious/lyrical alternative rap for a while and finally decided to sit down and listen to this new album after learning that Lupe is a big fan of one of my personal favorite rappers, Aesop Rock. I was fucking impressed with this album. Kiosk's rapped verse really sticks out along with Ms Mural. Not sure where to go next on his discography, but I love what he did with this.
The cool is best Lupe album...
T and Y is his most abstract album (Mural is top 2 most lyrical track ever made)
He also got a michael young history saga throughout his first 2 albums (one of the best saga in hip hop imo)..check it out

I loved Seattle. it was the first track I heard from the album. I loved the opening poem, Lion's den. I thought kiosk was lyrically impeccable. Ms. Mural was everything.
I wasn't a fan of Precious Things. Naomi was dope.
I wanted some better hooks on some of these tracks. I believe Goti was too short. It was like an unnecessary cliffhanger.
Your rating and review is spot on. It's a solid 8.
What didn’t you like about precious things? I thought it was dope using hands as a metaphor differently in every verse. One of my favorites but hey it took me a few listens to come around on Seattle and you brought that up first
There’re so many Easter eggs in this album that Fantano didn’t even touched on. From the album cover to the lyrics to the song titles to the acronym DMIZ. But I’m happy he finally gave Lupe the review he deserves.

Grew up with Lupe, he goes deep in his albums but in a mesmerizing sort of way
That’s crazy do you still have his number
This album is so damn good, and yes he still got it, matter of fact, his pen just keeps getting better. I love the messages in this album. Lupe truly cares for the youth, for his city Chicago. Another amazing album!
I loved this album, so glad that Lupe's still putting out great music
I really liked this album...I've listened to every Lupe album and most of his mixtapes going back to like 2004 and this one is definitely one of my favorites.
I like that he says what he means, I love the wordplay and the imagery, and the production was on point. Also, it wasn't too short or too long
It's been a long while since coming across an album where I have it on repeat. Particularly "Drill music in Zion" and "On Faux Nem". Love the really chilled out Jazz vibe.

Impressive Review Anthony, THANK YOU
A lupe interview would be sick
I haven’t listened to this album yet, but I think it’s interesting this review was 70% shorter than his review on Kendrick’s MM&BS, but Lupe got a better score. I know length doesn’t speak to quality exactly, and Kendrick’s probably had a lot more that Anthony wanted to break down as a fan from the beginning
Not just that but he also could've had more gripes and issues with MMATBS to go through and explain. There is also the need for a longer explanation for popular albums that he is going to give a low score to in order to more thoroughly back up his opinion so that kdots massive fanbase don't break down his door and accuse him of this or that.
I’ve been on YT SINCE 2007 this might be the most eloquent and ghetto comment of all time done so beautifully
Morale had the same score
Considering that Lupe Fiasco is many times more talented than Kendrick Lamar, I'm not surprised about the final score.

lupe seems so not pretentious and humble with this release, he doesnt seem to be trying to compete with anyone on the scene. album is short, eazy to listen and enjoyable. it is also a masterpiece created with rigour and precision. Lupe is in his own lane, AOTY easy

Wasn’t expecting this!
Might have to check this one out, I’ve heard many good things about Lupe though I’ve only every heard him on a handful of Kanye tracks.
Lupe was the first rapper that truly got me into hip hop when Kick Push came out, always been my favorite and easily a better lyricist than Kendrick though I love both.
Food & Liquor literally changed my life. It made me start looking at things in a different light. I was kind of headed down the wrong path in life before I listened to that album.
This is (rap) album of the year, and I would bet a lot of money that it stays that way, might also be rap album of the decade. Such a great project from Lupe idk why everyone including myself always sleeps on him, he has many great projects yet he isn’t talk about enough.
Kdot has rap aoty without a doubt

Prob bc he dropped the classics right before social media, then got F’d/blackballed by the industry right as social media came along
@@sittingyak lol no, no he doesn’t. It’s a good album but it’s not better than gkmc or tpab. Lupe dropped one of the most lyrical and creative records I have heard since about 2012-2013. Lupe Fiasco is underappreciated
Finally, an 8 for Lupe
that's some high praise here bringing up Tetsuo and wave as both of those were classics
Besides Food and Liquor and The Cool, DMIZ grew on me pretty quick. I wonder if Tetsuo and Youth and DROGAS Wave grew on Fantano since they dropped. Lu’s music doesn’t always latch onto people easily due to the complex entendres and conceptual styles.
His best since Food & Liquor tbh. That intro sets the tone and it never lets up.
