"Sun bright, eyes hurt, look away I must, keep looking I will"
That's the thing, it doesn't hurt when looking at an eclipse, however, it still damages your eyes as much as raw dogging the full sun.
@@bitzthe8bit668 yea its scary to think about
As much as I hate missing the eclipse, knowing my dumbass, I'd probably take a look at it like a deer looking at an oncoming car.
@SwaggyG_2102 you would've been alright as long as you looked at it while it was total eclipse, the corona is only about as bright as a full moon
my family wants to act like i missed a super important event for the world or something, they better be glad i wasn’t there so i could immediately blind myself 😂

I love the fact that there is a Simpsons episode where Marge decides to look at the sun during an eclipse and ends up going blind because she thinks it wouldn't hurt to look just a little.
Donald Trump looked at the sun during the 2017 eclipse. There's video of it 😂
Jokes aside I looked at it a bunch with my bare eyes at different states including totality, and nothing really happened. It's alright as long as you don't STARE.
This is episode is why I didn’t trust those cardboard glasses, my dumbass thought we needed a big box to look

this is like the most accurate definition of natural selection. this would be like talking to a group of people who cant swim, telling them not to go into the water because they will drown, and still seeing them slowly walk into the water one by one. it’s crazy how after telling people to not do something because it keeps them alive/healthy and so many ignore if for literally no reason
the location of the eclipse kinda makes you think this would happen
people with irreparable eye damage can have children, and those children will not be genetically impacted by their parent's eye damage
i mean people being affected because they wore the glasses that got recalled didn't necessarily do anything wrong
but some folks did purchase eclipse glasses and they're supposed to work. can't blame them for getting scammed
@@tardybloomer i’m not talking about them. if you read my comment i never mention the people with the phony glasses just the people who look directly into the sun with no protection even tho they’re told not to
Used a welding helmet to watch the eclipse and had people freaking out saying I would go blind while they all had those movie theater ahh glasses assembled by Chinese kids
Wouldn’t a welding helmet be even safer?
@@adrastos9464 yes
@@adrastos9464 by far. they are meant to look at an arc far times stronger than the sun for extended periods of time. people say that its the UV that gets through, but that's obviously a stupid comment since UV is given off from the arc generated by welding, hence why you can actually get sunburned if you stand near someone welding for an extended period of time.
Being real, eclipses are this feeling of being in a completely different world. The wind picks up, and then everything stops. The entire world feels like it's not moving, like time froze. And then it keeps going. I genuinely recommend everyone see it at some point
It also gets cold
I saw one when I was a kid. Everything goes quiet. There was no wind, no birds chirping. It lasted for about 30 seconds and then the world was back to normal. Not something I will ever forget
I was in the path of the total eclipse; it was crazy. A friend of mine had a hummerbird try and nest on his head.
I saw the eclipse this year in Cape Girardeau Missouri, the totality lasted for over 4 minutes and it was pretty insane. The crickets actually started chirping and birds started chirping like it was sunrise. The temperature dropped a good 10° and it had already dropped 5 degrees in the 10 minutes or so leading up to totality
I was in the path of totality. Every animal in the radius went crazy, mostly dogs and mourning doves because 3 mins of darkness messed up their schedule. Seeing the sky go slowly dark and more people come out and animals go crazy feels like a movie.
anyway did you guys remember that one gag in asdfmovie where the sun tells a random guy "hey look up here.... HAHA now you're blind!"

I remember this Simpsons episode were Marge looked at the eclipse and she was blind for a few days
I just picture the NPC meme wojak looking at the eclipse, getting angry his eye hurts, and immediately googling it.
i looked at it extremely briefly during the period of partial eclipse, and during totality it is safe to look at without protection. the instant it comes back around on the other side though, that brightness cuts like a knife and feels like a laser going right in your eye. no damage to me though, and no pain or anything. just be careful about it. in the time leading up to it, i'd look at it through my peripheral, where i wouldn't get a good view of it, or would take a piece of paper and cut a very tiny hole in it with the tip of a knife and look at the shadow, as the hole in the paper creates a pinhole projector that will show the eclipse's shape as it moves toward totality. What shocked me was how dark it got during totality, it was like post-dusk night time. Pretty cool.
Many people in the US couldn't even see a major covering, so using a colander or making a paper projector made it more interesting. The little crescents were cool. I did this at school long ago. Also the light filtering through the tree leaves was beautiful 🌙
@@KATinBLACK The trees over here still haven't recovered from winter (hell, we had the worst snowstorm of the year on the fourth), so sadly we didn't get to see it filtering through the tree leaves. I did get to see it through the holes in our neighbor's little lattice on their balcony, as it was in line to land the shadows on our balcony and projected the eclipse as well.

"I lost my vision a little bit last year"
This made me so irrated because I have -2.75, -2.50 with the WORST astigmatism you can get, and I cant see shit with my glasses. My vision isnt even bad yet, when turn 30 I might end up legally blind T-T
You are too dependent on glasses. I had -7,5 and -8 by the time I was 20, with astygmatism as well (big minus like that always comes with astygmatism as a bonus), and I wasn't wearing glasses most of the time. Ofc I had troubles reading stuff far away, but other than that - it was completely fine. The way glasses or lenses work is they take a lot of work off of your eyes, so your eye muscles become much weaker over time, and your eyesight loss will accelerate over time, as you will require stronger and stronger lenses.
And the thing is - if you're concerned with your eyesight - consult the doctor if you can have LASIK. It's realible, cheap and has almost no recovery period (for me, it was like a day when my eyes would feel dry and irritated, and then it was fine).
Idk dawg I got -8.25 and I can drive well with glasses (I'm blind af)
@iluxa-4000 how was lasik for that bad of eyes? I have -8s too and I'm scared lasik won't work all the way and ill still need glasses, or even worse, the possible side effects like light streaks and light circles/halos
@@Brutarii it got me to 100%, but over time it fell back a little, I think I have -2 now roughly. And it's more than good enough for me. But nothing really stops you from getting a follow-up surgery a year or two after the first one. I don't for a couple of reasons - I don't really need 20/20 vision, and also my retina is quite thin, so another surgery has a chance to fuck everything up, so I prefer to keep it that way. But if your retina is normal thickness - you can go multiple lasiks no probs. As for side effects - I didn't have any, and my surgery was like 5 or 6 years ago
@@iluxa-4000 lasik cost like thousand bruh, its not cheap
What makes the eclipse so dangerous is the fact that it’s blacked out, removing the innate human response to squint, which tightens the pupils and eyes so that the light isn’t enhanced, the exact opposite happens when the eclipse happens, your eye actually widens to let in more light as it thinks it’s okay, focusing the light even more on your retinas in damaging it further, looking at the sun is perfectly fineas long as you’re squinting, and if you can do that without squinting i think you’ve got much bigger problems at hand, looking at the eclipse is also completely safe as long as long as you’re squinting as you would looking at the sun normally.
🤓🤓
I had to force myself to look away when the moon was uncovering the sun because it didn't hurt my eyes but I'm glad I looked for a second it looked so beautiful
You got all the right information and then contradicted yourself in the conclusion.
Squinting would still mess up your eyes because as you said it's your pupils that widens because of no light. Squinting wouldn't make them go normal, so you'd take in at least 2x the damage of looking straight up at the sun.
7:59 Pyro really said this as if blud actually goes outside for more than 0.6 seconds before he crawls back to his room like Gollum.
LMAO
About 15-20 yrs ago, there was a very small eclipse in my country and we didn't have glasses or anything like that, so we used one of those masks that's for welders, with the very dark glass so it doesn't hurt your eyes. Worked pretty well
i looked at the eclipse thru a welding helmet and suffered zero damage
I had full on WELDING HELMETS with my father to look at it. However, due to the damn clouds we saw a Crescent Sun for like 3 seconds tops.
It is weird, but even though it's certainly bad that a lot of people damaged their eyes in this event, I am happy about the topic since I as an optician actually understand the stuff being talked about better than Mr. Streamer
Yes Pyro, yes.
6:49 I have the same thing as this guy, no central vision in right eye, Photic retinopathy (burn on retina). Also have that unusual blotch which covers words and faces, but it doesn't look like what they show here. It changes colour depending on what you look at, since it's my brain trying to fill in the literal gaps of my sight.
FORTUNATELY it is gone with both eyes open, my brain uses information from my good eye to cover the hole, leaving me with near 20/20 vision.
(I don't know how I got it, don't remember ever seeing an eclipse as a kid.)
If you waited for the total eclipse then you could have looked at it without glasses, people really getting cooked for watching the boring part
Before the eclipse is when you pull out a colander and look at the ground actually. Way cooler than looking up. Then you look up at the total eclipse
I use my welding goggles for watching eclipses.
You stare at the eclipse through 3d glasses, I stare at the sun raw and with no eclipse, we are not the same 🗿
pretty sure a high quality welders helmet could work
Idiocracy should be a movie not a documentary
I purposely blinded myself during the eclipse so I don't have to watch anymore pyro videos

Guy: How did you make all that money?
Guy: I Drop shipped fake Chinese Eclipse glasses.
In Canada as well. It was way cool watching everything go dark fast.
Got to see the whole totality in my state. During totality you can look at it without any protection. As soon as a tiny sliver of sun is back out you have to put the eclipse glasses back on. Even with the glasses I got some strain on my eyes
When you have to write a 10,000 word essay, but you can only think of 200 words, so you repeat it in different ways
Pyro salty he won’t see an eclipse till 2090
i got to watch the eclipse in my hometown. totality was wild, never seen some natural phenomena so beautiful. i did get a headache afterward but my vision is completely fine, which is interesting. I did watch everything except totality with proper glasses on.
I'm in Iceland and it only made the sun look Crescented, but my Astigmatism made it impossible for me to see the eclipse, even after the moon went in ~40% of the way the sun was just a blob of light for me

Pyro slop makes your eyes hurt
Yes
My glasses were real and my eyes were slightly sore for an hour or so after. I’m fine now though. Just be careful and don’t use fake stuff.
The memes about how pyro spends 5 minutes explaining something (glasses) is some how true.
The set I got, you can’t see ANYTHING unless you shine a phone light directly into them, and even then it’s just a tiny little yellow-orange orb. They worked extremely well, so much so that my the people I was with were fine even though they definitely watched longer than they were instructed to.
people have fricking phones.... why dont they just use their phones? are they stupid?
Well, I was planning on doing that as well, but apparently, by doing that, you have the same effect on your camera lens unless you use specific gear for it.
@@RogueX1.0 i mean, thats infinitely better then having your eyes damaged by it instead
Aiming a camera at the sun damages the camera in the same way it does your eyes, because cameras are just mechanical eyes.
i did that last eclipse i can remember and i was around 11 years old. i didnt even need to because i didnt know it doesnt go over my state, but if adults are doing this than it really is just natural selection.
@@RogueX1.0 dont look at your phone and record it. look at it after. thats what 11 year old me did, so.
I'm actually laughing so hard that I'm almost crying over you trying to figure out if you are "okay" because you look at the sun sometimes. The pure panic. Maybe I'm evil for finding it so funny
It's not a serial number. It's a norm or standard number. EN ISO stands for European standard and international standardisation organisation. The numbers after specify the standard. So this would be a standard which is the same in Europe and internationally. There is also an American equivalent called ANSI or American National Standards Institute. A lot of countries have these kinds of standardisation institutions.
Edit: The problem with the glasses is that they do not meet this international standard. Or rather the wrong one. The glasses shown here meet the standards of regular sunglasses (EN ISO 12312-1) however, they lack the designation for sunglasses with filters for directly looking into the sun (EN ISO 12312-2).
Oh wow that’s really interesting. Thanks for explaining that it gives a lot of context to things I’ve been reading about identifying correct authentic eclipse glasses.
The stream was so funny, my favorite part was where you got 4 donos on a row roasting you
We knew his brain was fried, but now we got the origin story 😂
10:50 that's called an afterimage and you get it if you look at a lamp as well for a long time. It has nothing to do with damage.
That post eclipse depression is real. Nothing will ever show the complete magnificence of an eclipse and it is truly something everyone should experience.

Shoutout to the editor for showing us some 9/11 jokes from witty chatters at 3:00 o7
Thank god my high school offered free glasses that actually worked.
to be fair judging by that shelf he should be around 5'7. I used that purple mouse he has which is 700mm or 70cm. The mouse is roughly two shelf boxes and there is 4 of them which is 140 i added another 70/2 for the bottom since it seems roughly the same size as one box , which gave me 175 which is 5'7. it should be either slightly more or less but I'm confident using my stupid math that he's around 5'7.
Ideally one of them welding visors should work. I watched an eclipse 10 years ago through it and i was completely fine. I didn't look directly at the sun for too long either only 10 seconds at a time
Pyro: "I should not be laughing at that"
Also Pyro: *Proceeds to laugh at that*
10:40 YES
Fell on , I love you
I had the glasses on and some rays could be seen from the top of the glasses. Was paranoid I got eye damage since my left eye is dry and itchy. Though this gave me confidence that I’m ok.

Pyro be like “le people don’t agree with me this meme is funny so it’s not funny”
I watched a kitchen appliance ad and had more fun looking at it than seeing pyro's video.
It got all dark like it was night time but it wasn't, it was cool, i rather look around and see stuff being lit up by dim light, like when moon light is able to shine through a forest night.
We got photos, but looking around also was pretty cool.
Glad I used welding goggles at least lmao
Wasn't in the path of complete totality but saw most of it and it was pretty cool!
I think looking at the full blown sun isnt as bad because the pain you feel when you look at really bright objects is your retina contracting way harder than it can handle, and you instinctively squint to relieve the pressure, both mechanisms significantly dimming the incoming light. I dont think either of those things happen when you look at an eclipse, meanwhile an eclipse outputs just as much solar radiation but with a fraction of the light.
Your retina can't contract lmao. You mean the iris.
Pyro getting a security warning after kissing his monitor is comedy gold
8:14 glancing at it wont fuck you forever.
The eclipse isn't dangerus the sun is
The eclipse burned out my retinas, now I can only listen to the slop. Worth it.
18:44 is so stupid bc recreating the conditions at the start of the universe is like one of the main functions of the LHC
the eclipse is only safe to look at without eye protection during totality
It's fine to glance at an eclipse, much like it's fine to look at the sun for a bit, but normally your body goes "ouch that hurts, close your eyes now" and you also know it's stupid and will damage your eyes so you look away anyway, while in an eclipse it's not going to be as instantly painful and since you want to see it you'll be prone to looking longer than you should, which is when damage happens.
Hey pyro, I liked the chat in the beginning of ur vid. I should do that more often in vids ❤
12:41 *pyro slowly raises up his reading glasses off camera*
Your eyes are not going to get damaged just for looking at the sun for like 2 seconds. There's this thing where kids see colors brighter than adults. It's because over time, as our eyes are exposed to the sun, our eyes change in a way it won't be damaged just for sun exposure. The reason why our eyes is prone to damage during an eclipse is exactly because of that video being shown here.
So in conclusion, no our eyes are not going to be damaged just for 2 seconds of looking at the sun (still don't do that tho). Our eyes are not that weak, or else we be blind by now from all the sun exposure we had over the ears.
Looking at the sun for that long is probably always permanent damage. But permanent does not mean severe
4:11 Good thing my mom bought a different kind. She bought us these ones called,"Sun Catcher."
when i was a kid and couldnt get to sleep (or just when i was bored) i had this small flashlight that id shine directly onto my eye for like multiple minutes at a time cus i thought it would get me glasses and i thought it was cool (specifically the tony stark glasses) and surprisingly my vision is still great besides from some sort of astigmatism thing
