    You missed two sword monuments about Malenia and Godfrey.
    This one is Liurnia:
    This marks Malenia's southward march. The Blade of Miquella and her Cleanrot Knights Grant her wings never to be clipped.
    This one is just as you enter Caelid:
    Lord Godfrey, at last at the end of his campaign. His golden armies unvanquished and unbowed. Yet finds grace lost, tattered and faded.

    I assume Rykard is at war only with Leyndell because 1) it’s his only neighbor and 2) the fact that he is a Carian royal himself (and who was in league with Ranni) might make him an ally for some other factions.

    • @goudanuff6451
      @goudanuff6451 Před rokem +3

      It makes sense that the Golden Lineage would want to weaken or eliminate the Carian Royals, especially after Radagon's involvement in destroying the Elden Ring.

      Plus everyone in volcano manor regularly spouted blasphemy and made threats to burn the Erdtree to the ground.
      Godrick, Rennala, Malenia and Mohg kept to themselves so Morgott had no reason to wage war with them. Everyone but Rykard assumed Ranni was dead, and Radahn wasn't leaving Caelid anytime soon, so Rykard was the only relevant threat to Leyndell.

      I'm pretty sure he took the fall for the plot of the black knives, and that's why he's fighting leyndell, that's where godwyn was born. Ranni gave him something to fight Maliketh with should they ever fight. It also explains why he's considered so blasphemous compared to Ranni, and also why there's so many hands in caria manor

      Same with the war against the dragons (ds1), the war against the giants (ds2), the war against the angels (ds3), the first demon scourge (DeS), and so on.
      But without a war of epic proportions before hand, how would we know who the legends are? It would also take away from the sense that we're fighting all of the characters as shadows of their past selves, only fragments of their once glorious power..

    Regarding the lone survivor mentioned at Castle Morne, there's a straight sword which mentions a forgotten kingdom known as Eochaid. This blade also has a unique ash of war identical to that of the Bell Bearing Hunter's executioner's sword. It's possible there's a connection there with the hunter or, in the very least, the blade, having some connection to the lone survivor at Morne.

      I actually saw a video recently from Eredin called The History of Limgrave. He posits, and I agree, the lone hero was one of the Fringe Folk. Limgrave, prior to being conquered was called The Fringe, it was ruled by the Storm Lord (The spirit ashes you give to Nepheli are the Storm Lord's). After the Storm Lord was defeated Stormveil castle was built and one of the subjugated Fringe Folk used the Brick Hammer to stage a rebellion that would go on to play out the events detailed at Castle Morne and on the Grafted Blade. The video is very convincing and sites good evidence.

    We can see the first defense of Leyndell in the story trailer. We see these giant stone poisonous bolts being hurled from behind Leyndell’s walls, the same bolts we see in the Altus Plateau. As well, the banners we see in the trailer show that it is Limgravian forces that are attacking Leyndell.
    I don’t know if Morgott was already holding the throne in Leyndell, or if he was still hiding in the sewers during this.

  • @Razhork
    @Razhork Před rokem +15

    I think the order of events is pretty much spot on till about the Shattering War. I'm not confident that the assault on Volcano Manor would be the first event, and instead, it's the First Defense of Leyndell.
    The mention of a sovereign alliance makes me believe it's the first part of the war. It's the only mention of something an alliance having existed and I'd like to believe it would have crumbled early on since all demigods are warring against one another. There is nothing concrete to establish whether it happened first or not though.
    Then I'd place the Second Defense of Leyndell, but there's likely a decent gap between the first and second. We know it must've been Radahn who laid siege on Leyndell and was repelled by Morgott. Radahn would also have to had time to lick his wounds back in Caelid before Malenia starts warring against him. Again, nothing super concrete, but I'll elaborate why I think the 2nd siege is more likely than Volcano Manor in the next one:
    Then after the Second Siege of Leyndell, we have the assault on Volcano Manor. My main reasoning, while not entirely sound either, is the fact we still find Leyndell soldiers "occupying" themselves on Mt. Gelmir, though they're now cannibalizing their brethren. I'm aware the citizens of the Lands Between are immortal, but we don't have any traces left from the two defenses at this point in the game beyond the environmental damage.
    Ultimately I think Volcano Manor assault is by far the hardest to place in the timeline imo. What I don't like about my suggested timeline is the idea that Leyndell would start an assault on Volcano Manor after having been sieged twice. However succesfull Leyndell was, it does take a toll. It would be strategically unwise to start assaulting Volcano Manor at this point imo.
    Lastly I definitely think Godrick monumental comes right before the Battle of Aeonia. I take it as Malenia marching towards Radahn (which is actually a monument in Liurnia talking about Malenia's southward march) and besting Godrick on her way to him as he insults her.
    Then she has the battle with Radahn and that's the last event of the Shattering.
    TLDR; My take on Shattering War events: First Defense of Leyndell -> Second Defense of Leyndell -> Assault on Volcano Manor -> Godrick humiliated -> Battle of Aeonia

    You know what i would love a dlc where you go to hidden large area or island where there are still giants and you can fight some and some respawn and you can re fight them.
    But i would also like a item you can use to reset bosses in order to fight them again it half or quarters all rewards so you cant just farm them for boss items the reward would be to fight them again maybe test your builds on them.
    And with those giant corpses dotted around they could have made it so some under a curse or raid dead curse would come alive and attack you wouldn't be as powerful as the boss maybe twice as much as the trolls. Would be awesome as i would like to fight more giants.

    Speaking of monuments, do you know how the large statues of Marika being crucified were made (such as those in the churches of marika)? Specifically, how do people on the outside know that Marika is crucified inside the erdtree if no one is allowed inside the thorns?
    Someone (Radagon?) would have to be the one to spread the word about that, I guess?

    • @Ell_Pacino
      @Ell_Pacino Před rokem +10

      It was my understanding that the statues and churches were built before the Shattering, since the description of the Sacred Tears we find there associate them with “the age of the Erdtree”-presumably the height of it’s power

      @Picmanreborn Před rokem +1

    • @michaelwerkov3438
      @michaelwerkov3438 Před rokem +2

      @@Picmanreborn ill need to check that... but if thats true... it means that the crucifixions in limgrave have no conmection to marika and are just a form of punishment, but ALSO that crucifying marika in the erdtree is a means to both degrade her as a criminal AND to mock the statues of the people that saw her as a savior by binding her in the pose forever

    • @Picmanreborn
      @Picmanreborn Před rokem +1

      @@michaelwerkov3438 yeah just I thought it was a form of punishment on both sides. Since Marika has a spear in her to mimic the picture of Jesus getting impaled by the spear of destiny.
      And the people in limgrave are still alive too that's the crazy part about it 😭I don't know what you have to do in a world where literally everyone is a murderer to deserve to be crucified but they did something I guess

    • @JQMusic5
      @JQMusic5 Před rokem

      @@Ell_Pacino yeah I think you’re right about them being built beforehand. But her pose seems like the crucifixion pose to me, which makes even less sense if it was built before she was crucified.
      The effigies of the martyr and the small golden effigies also depict a figure being crucified, so that symbol is obviously meaningful to the faithful but maybe that’s just a generic symbol not necessarily related to marika, like others have said.

    Personally I don't think Radahn fought or invaded Leyndell but I'm still open to that theory.
    The main issue I have is there is no context or information backing up Radahn and morgott's fight other than that 1 picture which looks like an artist's interpretation. We don't know the outcome where or why they fought. The vague sword memorial description only tells us the alliance fell apart stating "traces yet remain of bloody conspiracy" I'll get back to this later.
    Morgott is only mentioned in the 2nd defense and all other sword memorials show some form of "leftovers" after the event. For example the giant dragon corpse in the capital, Leyndell troops in Gelmir when they failed their attack, Stormveil's old emblem on the flags are still there in the capital outskirts battlegrounds, a cleanrot knight can be fought in Liurnia when Malenia passed by. We don't see anything Redmane related in Altus Plateau further pushing this idea away.
    An interesting thing to note is Tiche's spirit ashes as it reads
    "Tiche was one of the assassins who, on the night of the plot, imbued her black knife with the Rune of Death and slew Godwyn the Golden. She was the daughter of the Black Knife Ringleader, Alecto, and was killed protecting her mother during their flight from the royal capital."
    This tells us the Black Knifes were caught and had to retreat, and we can find a Black Knife assassin right outside the capital in the general area as the sword memorial further supporting the idea that the memorial and the first defense was based around the Black Knifes and Godwyn. The Demigods most likely suspected each other for the event and the alliance was disbanded which then lead to the drawing happened since the artist could have imagined only Radahn being able to slay Godwyn who had the feat of fighting dragons and the veiled monarch (Morgott) causing a retreat.
    The "bloody conspiracy" mentioned in the sword monuments likely refers to Godwyn's murder by the black Knives and Ranni. While playing the game we later learn that Ranni caused the events, she modeled her doll after the mentor and named herself Renna to hide her true status.
    I think these scenarios happened.
    1: Godefroy and Godfrey attacked Leyndell individually as the first and second defense.
    2: Radahn and Stormveil attacked seperately (No leftovers from Radahn's army makes this less likely that he was the 2nd but then it also wouldn't be "bloody conspiracy" since people would know he attacked.) Stormveil would make up the 2nd defense
    3: Morgott started accusing all the demigods and kicked them all out since definite proof couldn't be placed on anyone specific. Stormveil would be the 2nd defense.
    4: The night of the Black Knives made up the first defense while Stormveil made up the 2nd defense. (Right now I believe this one the most since both have remains in the same areas as their respective memorials and there isn't contradictions)
    5: Godrick hid in Leyndell (not consistent with Kenneth's story since the capital is not a castle) and Morgott ended up jumping Radahn, Stormveil still makes up the 2nd defense.

    • @andersonborges5377
      @andersonborges5377 Před rokem +1

      From my undestanding, Godrick was in the capital when Radahn sieged it, and thus fleed from Radahn to Stormveil, while Morgott crawled out of the sewers to defend the Erdtree, and then fought Radahn in battle. We don't know if the fight went the way that is portrayed in the opening slide(could be artistic freedom), maybe Morgott jumped Radahn, or maybe he is stronger than Radahn, we don't know, because not even the inhabitants of the world know, almost nobody knew about morgott, he was imprisioned his whole life. What Kenneth said: "Honestly, Godrick’s no more than a jumped up country bumpkin. Lord? Don’t make me laugh. First he hid himself amongst the womenfolk to flee the capital, then hid from Radahn in that castle". If he fled the capital, then hid from Radahn, it is clear that Radahn was at the capital, why would he flee south(near Caelid) otherwise?
      And that picture is shown exactly when the narrator says that Marika's offspring fought, I don't think it would show us that picture without reason.

    I'd imagine peace would have to be struck between Liurnia and Leyndell before the Golden Host could do anything in Limgrave. Also I assumed the assault of Volcano Manor followed the second defense of Leyndell as that battle is still ongoing and mobilizing troops to another battlefield on the otherside of an enemy army would defy possibility. The Rotting Alliance actually refers to all The Sovereign Alliance which consisted of Godrick, Ranni, Rykard, Radahn, Miquella, and Malenia and Morgott as king. It rotted because everyone started acting on their own agendas. Ranni vanished as far as they know, Rykard ditched out and started blaspheming, Godrick with Godefroy tried to attack the capital, then Radahn ditched the capital to chase Godrick but never came back, Miquella's sneaking off to make his own tree and Malenia is his perpetual follower.

    • @Photoloss
      @Photoloss Před rokem +1

      Ranni's place is kinda weird though. Morgott mentions her by name and lumps her in with the others being traitors, based on Rogier's questline no one knew she was involved in the Black Knife Plot, but this alliance of demigods must have formed _after_ the Elden Ring was shattered and Marika vanished, which happened after Ranni's death. So what's the story there? Ranni just sat down with the other "okay, so, I kinda got assassinated but managed to hide my soul in a doll..." and then _still_ did something treacherous after putting herself out in the open like that? What did she even stand to gain?

    • @Writh811
      @Writh811 Před rokem +2

      @@Photoloss Yeah, they didn't know she was involved or really what happened to her. Morgott was likely intending all the remaining Demi-gods fall in line but giving them a seat as a council would be an olive branch to preserve unity. Ranni not even showing up would immediately taint the strength of the alliance.
      I could honestly imagine Morgott places a lot of the blame for the alliance failing at her feet. "Everyone would have been more onboard if we had all stood together."

    • @Photoloss
      @Photoloss Před rokem +2

      @@Writh811 Doesn't make sense if she vanished after the Night of the Black Knives. Even stubborn old Morgott can't fault her for *dying* unless she showed herself afterwards. Which we know she did at some point as she had a Great Rune and was known to Gideon.
      And obviously had Morgott known the full truth he would have had some more choice words for her instead of lumping her in with Radahn and Malenia.

    • @Writh811
      @Writh811 Před rokem +1

      @@Photoloss I think you might be misunderstanding me. I'm saying Morgott does not know what happened to Ranni. He sent her an invite to join his little alliance not realizing what happened to her and never finds out. As far as he knows she just tossed his letter in the trash and never showed up. He thinks she is still fully alive somewhere just snubbing him. The thrones were likely made in preparation (and under the assumption) that everyone would show up and join Morgott's efforts. We don't know when Ranni got her Great Rune. Like you said, she had one. Gideon knows she had a Great rune she cast aside but even he doesn't mention her current status indicating that aside from Ranni's inner circle, no one knows where she is or what she is doing. This casting aside also would have had to happen on or before the night of black knives as she has no body to contain the Great Rune nor does she want it because it is part of the Greater Will/ Fingers and the whole point of killing her body was sever all ties to those entities. Heck the age of stars ending sees the Elden Ring destroyed.
      But I definitely don't think all the Great Runes were gained during the sovereign alliance otherwise why does Mohg have one but was not even mentioned as a member of the alliance or at all by Morgott.

    • @Photoloss
      @Photoloss Před rokem +2

      @@Writh811 The issue there is that as far as I'm aware all retellings agree that the Night of the Black Knives happened *FIRST.* Including Ranni's death, which as far as we can tell needed to happen almost at the same time as Godwyn's for that split half-death ritual to work. _Then_ some time later Marika shattered the Elden Ring and was immediately imprisoned with no one knowing what happened to her, and only after that the political rulership collapsed and the demigods claimed their Great Runes as "shards" of the Elden Ring. We know Marika and Radagon both removed runes prior to that without shattering the Ring first (Destined Death and Rebirth respectively) but the demigods are explicitly referred to as "shardbearers" and I don't think any source claims they received their Great Runes as gifts from Marika or the like.

      Morgott likely won through a combination of tactics/defender's advantage, superior technology, stronger magic(/faith in the Erdtree as the dominant power) and possibly numbers especially if the Gelmir slugfest took place later unlike what the video assumes.
      The scene from the opening strikes me as more of a symbolic act to uphold morale on Morgott's part rather than a decisive battle. Morgott is wielding his cane rather than the unsealed sword and Radahn isn't using his gravity magic either.

    The sword monument by the Stormcaller Church says Godwyn died fighting the dragons. He was already undead when Ranni killed him on the Night of Black Knives.
    Everyone tries to twist what this says because they don't want to deal with the implication that Godwyn was already dead
    He didn't fight THEM to the last. He fought to the last. Which means he died fighting.
    You took what it actually said and flipped it on its head. Fortissax isnt dead. Godwyn is. Why would you claim Godwyn killed Fortissax?

    • @Photoloss

      "To the last" does not necessarily mean he actually died. That scenario would definitely qualify of course but fighting until you pass out and the enemy spares you would work too. Or him being the last man standing.

      Nope. The monument says he fought to the last. That means he died. Why is it so hard?
      It makes more sense if he died here... That explains the soulless demigod mausoleums. It explains castle Sol. It explains why Marika and everyone else teamed up to take him down. Why Ranni went for him specifically.
      It explains why Marika broke death away from the elden ring to begin with.
