I’ve been following Khodorkovsky for years. The man has suffered, you can see his health has deteriorated. His spirit has remained tho, this is THE man to listen. He once pushed for more civilized, more asvanced Russia and paid for it with his wealth and freedom for 10 years. I have nothing but the greatest respect for him.
Sure he suffered; he was too stupid to take billions and run. Instead he decided to do what the government told him not to do, which was get into politics... so they jailed him.

There are many different ways this can turn out, and rushing forth, gung-ho, into Ukraine to "save" the day WILL make it inevitable. Having that outlook is nothing but a self-fulfilling prophecy. Furthermore, there weren't any nukes in the 1930s, so that appeasement analogy doesn't work.

The fact that he's afraid of his own entourage is completely normal and what's expected in an autocratic system. It gets narrower and narrower at the top and the leader always ends up making decisions based not on good information but only on things he wants to hear. Whereas in a democratic system, the people around you tell you things you don't want to hear too- and better decision are made. And the people change. It's a beautiful corrective measure built in. Treasure it. Learn history. Stop denigrating a flawed but objectively far superior systems like America's, etc. Freedom is truly a matter of life and death.
