When drawn by the right artist, her X-men Red is her best modern look imo. It’s reminiscent of her 90s look without pulling too much from that era tbh, there’s a reason it’s a fan favorite
And yet somehow they insist on her wearing that horribly outdated green skirt and yellow mask.

I'm sorry, but nobody complains that Magneto is "too powerful" and thus, boring, yet he is always presented as "untouchable". What about Scarlet Witch? Monet is portrayed as "perfect in every way" and we don't call her boring either. Storm is dropping bodies without powers on Mars and she's not "boring" is she? I get having a weakness is necessary but she isn't the only one. She gets criticism for being either too powerful or fainting a lot. Also, she doesn't exist to make Scott or Emma "interesting". If they can't achieve that on their own, that's on them. As far as powers go, Jean grew into them. She earned her stripes. I think that's better than someone who comes through the door being hailed as THE omega of all omegas.
Thank you. It's a cool video but homie just be saying random stuff like it's fact when it's mostly just "this is good/bad because i said so and not cause I thought about it." Purely just preference instead of what outfits get right and wrong
tbf characters like that have often already hit their peak and have very little room to grow, they're a constant whereas jean has more room to grow and potential to live up to

I actually really like the X-men Blue teen Jean costume. I think the colors are great and I like the big X mark on her chest. I think it also somewhat inspired her Hellfire Gala gown... I would love to see her wearing a grown-up version of that these days.
I also love the terribly underrated third X-factor costume! But nothing beats her 90's look though. 😍
Her best look is what Russell Dauterman has drawn for her post-Hellfire Gala 2021. Her modified-for-practicality couture look is so regal and perfect!
I swear to god, there is nothing more controversial these days than the green Marvel Girl dress for Jean. I don’t get it, either, because I love the dress. Jean is possibly the girliest of the cast with her being a model, loving going shopping, and having dreams of a family like your average woman. I think embracing that is a good thing, since we literally have other X-Women that cover the other bases. Storm the exotic rogue thief, Emma the promiscuous business woman, Rogue the tough southern belle, Psylocke the British ninja knight (and Kwannon the literal ninja), and many others who fill the femme fatale archetype without falling too girly. Let the girly girls have rep too, people!
I think maybe giving it an update would have been a good call if they wanted to go back to Marvel Girl like they have these days. Not like that damn Extraordinary X-Men version though. The silhouette is fine, but dear god, the color placement was horrid, absolutely ruining the costume with the yellow.
Honestly I doubt most people would mind it if it did have an update. But leaving it the same doesn’t really say much about her character. I do think the girly girl look could work but even some of Betsy’s outfits get that down while being more rememberable and dynamic (her 80s outfit when she first joined the team comes to mind)
@@cmgvillager: That era of Betsy was nice, but it clearly did not stick, since Claremont changes it shortly to the armored look in the Outback era and then overhaul Betsy completely with the ninja look.
There aren’t very many girly girl’s in the X-Men. Like the further you go, you get Dazzler’s disco pop star, Pixie and Meghan being fantasy fairies, Kitty and Karma being average girls growing up, Dani Moonstar being an outdoors type, and Magik and Monet being the bad girl. Polaris is probably the one that comes the closest to girly girl after Jean with her love for coffee and being the one enjoying Jean using her powers to telekinetically change outfits in her Phoenix days.

@@cmgvillager: Eh. I think the reaction to the outfit by everyone was overly dramatic anyways, so I kinda stopped caring about their views anyway.
I have seen the Marvel Girl costume in a dark purple with red accents before and it looks great in my eyes personally. A change in color ultimately would be preferable to me. Mostly on the red part of spectrum, despite color theory suggesting otherwise.
Honestly, the time where i most like Jean Gre was obvioulsy the Dark Phoenix time, the 90's Jean, and AoA Jean costumes.
The Miss Marvel outfit is dumb, seriously they could come up with something better.
Again altough i think AoA Jean Grey outfit isn't good for the main Marvel universe Jean, and probably sit on the exact extreme end of the green dress, it is a step further, on the other hand, the green dress reflect the lack of creativity of Marvel in the recent years, they simply brought up that dumb uniforme from a distant pass, is almost like a joke.
Everyone likes the X-Men Red outfit except me. I literally hate it so much lol

From the X-MEN TAS, I use to think the 90's costume was blue and her bare skin lol. But the weird 'pockets' on her skin made me question it. Still love the costume today.

I will always stand by Revolution Jean grey it’s so underrated and I’d love to see it in green and modernized
RE: #1 -- Blue and orange are complimentary colours on the colour wheel, and therefore are the ideal pairing of colours. I was really disappointed when they turned the orange body suit yellow.
X-men Red outfit is my favorite. Reminiscent of her 90’s but with a modern spin and looks badass as well

Jean is great! The only OG X-Men that nobody like, the most beloved of the original ones and then one of the greatest and most powerful Marvel characters.
Also, i'm fkg love Jean from AoA, i still remember when i read the comics and Jean was so badass.

I have only ever read uncanny x-force for an x-men run and have no interest in fashion or clothing, but you are so knowledgeable and passionate about this that this series of videos have quickly become one of my favourites
For some reason I always saw Emma and Scotts relationship as two equals and they both know and accept it. With Jean, they both knew who was in charge.
I stan the 90s suit, and I don't care who knows it. You kid about the forehead diamond thingee, but I remember seeing the cartoon look as a kid, and instantly understanding her vibe and power set. To my young eyes, she looked like a more superheroic Deanna Troi. And honestly, the basic v-shape silhouette is so close to classic Cockrum Nightcrawler, so I've never been able to take the "thong" criticisms too seriously. I love the weird dash of paramilitary/sci-fi in this look, and the light armor for those moments when the Omega level powers inevitably fail her.
Plus, I've come to realize that I tend to reject edgy looks from Jean, and like to think that all of her punk, queer, and rebellious feelings are best expressed via my preferred redhead, Rachel.

Green Phoenix costume supremacy! Good list regardless but I love the color scheme of that costume and how simple , sexy, and powerful it looks.
Yeah, Jean's red hair always looked great contrasted with green. I like the dark red of Dark Phoenix for story purposes, but green/gold was Jean's signature look.

Honestly (aside from the Pheonix costumes) is actually the New X Men (No.11 on the ranking). I’m not sure why, it just suits her I suppose and the storylines she had really helped as well, think she looked the best out of the team at the time as well which helped make her finally stand out

I’ve been a huge Jean Grey fan now for over 25 years. I agree with you on most of your list, but I love the green mini dress marvel girl look. I think mostly because it’s so iconic. My too 5 are probably lane but it’s the option of a Jean grey fan lol I would say it would be Marcel girl mini dress, iconic 90s bkue and yellow jump suit or whatever it is, green Phoenix costume e, white Phoenix costume and any of her hellfire gala looks, honorable mentions would be her blue and red costume from the x-men red issues

Jean is the best. She's complex as heck and is definitely most interesting in terms of character moments, but i can agree that her powers can make her fights a less interesting part of her stories.

Always loved jean for her powers but I always felt like her origin suffered from her being cast as the all American girl to Cyclops’ all American guy in the beginning. Unofficial jock and cheerleader. I loved her return in all new x men (sue me) and her trying to figure herself outside of that mold and away from the Phoenix. I loved to watch her powers and personality grow. Scott is the least interesting thing about her imo. Would love to really see what her and Storm’s sister hood really is about be explored some more. I feel like they tell us about it more than they show it, especially since I feel like Storm’s overall characterization has suffered similarly from the “goddess” or “queen” Lens people love to heap onto black women in order to complimentary but often ends up being quite flattening and lazy to any other aspects of their humanity. Would love to read or hear more about it, any recommendations? Emma has had a much more dynamic character arc you can’t help but love her for it. I’m a casual comic reader who does a lot of research and have seen all media containing these two so might have missed something crucial and would love to be proven ignorant!

Best is the Dave Cockrum Phoenix green/gold. Worst is that dreadful JIm Lee blue/gold rag. It's difficult to believe this was from the same comic that gave use the best Rogue outfit. Kinda sad that the Jim Lee designs were immortalized in the 90s animated series.

My least favorite is the current one with the cat mask. Color pallet is dull. The silhouette is off because of the mask. I can see a younger Kitty wearing that because of her bad fashion sense.

Totally agree that Jean with short hair is just wrong. I love that big red mane of hair she has, especially when powered up. I don't like the bald cap either, on her or on Cyclops.
I love jean gray, I love Emma frost! I like Emma and Cyclops together more then Cyclops and jean being together. I prefer Jean gray alive! She's amazing!
Jim Lee Jean is still my favorite. I like her exterminator outfit. Better than the Xfactor original.. Funny how you discount the young XMen as being pointless that nothing would matter after. I feel that way about all alt reality stuff in comics now. This whole sins of sinister is a hard pass for me because of this very reason. Her green mini dress was best with her adult body on the moon. Ha! My list is vastly different than yours. The red Xfactor is a great one. There are many variations of the Phoenix costume that I like less
And the major problem with you "new readers" that all the shade and personal bias towards Jean that you said all happened. Her powers were halved, if not more, all throughout the 90s. And I thought this was a review on her outfits and the storylines around each look and not on how much you don't like her over 4 minutes in and already bored af. Can we start the review, now? Screw the six-month gap!!!!!! My favourites would be the X-Men Red outfit, which is a totally modern armoured look for her, & a great update on her Gold team outfit.
TBH, I had always HATED her Gold team outfit, even though I know a lot of fanboys love it because of the cartoon. When it debuted in the comics, I thought it was the most hideous thing I'd ever seen. Those shoulder pads made NO sense. & where TF are her footwear?!?

The X-office must be trying to tell us something about Krakoa Jean's psyche with that outdated costume.
Yeah her last X-Factor costume with the fierce pointed shoulders is also one of my favourites, & I wonder what possessed her to ditch something like that & wear that fugly Gold team.
But yes, Jean Grey, like Kate Pryde, is no fashionista. Their sense of style isn't as developed as like Emma or Ororo, who can rock whatever they choose to wear.

i have never understood why people like the Scott/Emma relationship. you basically have your boy scout who can do no wrong and have him enter into a psychic affair with a former enemy turned ally (dressed as HIS WIFE att) while you are married. granted, this isn't the first time Scott cheated (Madelyne) but jean was "dead" when he married Maddie. and they argued that he did it because he didn't feel he could tell Jean what he was going through and that she couldn't understand that darkness, to which i call bullsh*t. SHE couldn't understand the darkness you're going through!? have we forgotten everything dealing with the Phoenix, countless deaths and resurrections and the complete extermination of her family tree!? SHE WOULD TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!! YOU DIDN'T EVEN GIVE HER A CHANCE!! SHE SACRIFICED EVERYTHING TO FREE YOU FROM BEING BONDED TO APOCALYPSE AND WHAT DO YOU DO!? YOU HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH EMMA FROST!! i hated the way the X-Writers wrote Scott, trying to make him dark and edgy like Logan and it just didn't work (they've gotten better about it in later years but back then it just stunk. they did Scott AND Jean dirty).

Jean, Kitty, & Rogue look absolutely terrible with short hair. Jubillee I don't like long hair on. Laura would look better with short hair. Storm can pull off anything.

Oh thank god! I agree, Jean is totally blah for me too. With all the dying and then being super OP, it’s like pick a lane lady, are you a god or are you a corpse??? I actually referred the animated series’ rendition of Jean Grey. She was sporadic and not really that big of a deal except for the Phoenix storyline. Like that’s all I need to see of her, beyond the Phoenix stuff I’m happy to see more of Storm, Rogue, Jubes and Psylocke (asian)
I love Jean, I like the idea that she has a dark side she constantly has to repress (even without phoenix). I like that the power she has is not just because of phoenix, and how strangely close she is with the phoenix itself at all times (like she manifests raptors on her own sometimes). Her connection sometimes makes me think they are one and the same and I revel in it whenever they explore that idea.
Madelyne's relationship with Jean is also so interesting to me, and I would love another story focusing on that too.
Of course my favorite is the 90’s costume and I can only thank Jim Lee for the excellent design
The Ultimate Universe costume & hair seem very OOC for Jean, but look great on Storm. The thigh windows would snag & rip so easy.

Never liked the Marvel Girl costumes. That the wrestling singlet over full body latex is the worst. The skirt? Just ditch the gloves & mask.
I like the X-Men Blue suit, but it's really more Rogue's aesthetic.
Black Queen Jean just looks like a color pallet swap of Emma Frost on the Goblin Queen, so I hate it.
For me, Phoenix Force, Phoenix, & Dark Phoenix were her best costumes.
That last Xfactor costume is just giving me "Seahawks fangirl" vibes.

Sometime the way that 90s costume is colored, she looked near-nude with pockets glues to her legs, because the colorist would make it flesh-colored.
