Hi Patrick. Always good viewing. Here in New Zealand we are a very young country. A lot of New Zealanders are of British ancestry. The times we've visited Britain we find the history fascinating. The old buildings, countryside are beautiful. Keep them coming. 👍
Morning Chris, the buildings here certainly can be very interesting with fascinating history. Many thanks for watching 👍
I can't wait to come visit someday. I've read about this place in my genealogy, my whole life. We have traced back to tue 1400's. Thank you so much for this.
Nice one, many thanks for watching 👍
Another finely produced episode, Patrick. I enjoyed the history lesson at the close. Thank you !
Many thanks, glad you liked the history lesson too! 👍
Great video Patrick ,I really like that you include the local churches in your films . They are such beautiful
structures and the age of some of them is amazing .
Glad you like them Bill, I love churches too. Many thanks for watching 👍
another walk totaly enjoyed watching so many interesting places/buildings on this walk thanks you.
Glad you enjoyed it, many thanks again for watching 👍
Impressive I enjoyed this so much 💗👍
Hope you have a lovely weekend friend 🥰 can't wait to watch your next videos
Thank you so much! Hope your weekend was lovely too 👍
Another scenic enjoyable walk Patrick. Nice to hear you talk about your Dad again. Love that old Manor building. Thank you for sharing take care and all the best.
Many thanks John, yes I thought I'd mention my Dad this time as it was his 80th 👍
The Amber Valley is lovely and quiet too. It's the perfect place for an unhindered day's filming. When I've been up on the Pennines, there are hiking groups and everyone else. It's not exactly a break in the wilderness at times more like a shopping centre. The Abbey looked great, sadly most places are still closed. I know how you feel about the jabs. I'm beginning to think that I'm a human pincushion. Happy eightieth for your father. Glad he's still around. Cheers.
Yes although a beautiful area, the Peak District can be like shopping centre with the crowds visiting, so this was a nice quiet one to do. Hopefully the manor will open again, but I gather it's on private land despite being administered by English Heritage. Thanks Kelly for commenting and watching 👍
Another great video. Always look forward to the next one.
Many thanks for watching Rick 👍
Wow, Wingfield Manor is magical and gothic up on that hill. The grey weather and your atmospheric and at times sombre music perfectly captures the mood. 🍂🍂
Many thanks Andee! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
It’s a lovely area, those Derbyshire villages are beautiful and I loved the ruins of the manor, another fabulous film that I thoroughly enjoyed, thankyou.
Glad you enjoyed it Pete, many thanks as always for your comments and for watching 👍
Wonderful job as always Patrick. Loved the walk and the music suited it really well too. Can't believe a building of that quality is derelict; it must be screaming out restore me please! what a home that would make some family.
Thanks as always Jeff, much appreciated. I hope English Heritage to reopen the manor. I gather part of the problem is because it is also on private land, so it'll probably stay closed and derelict for a long time yet 👍
@@solitaryrambler It really needs to get the tlc it truly deserves.
It's really good these are being produced with such care and attention. I was sad to read earlier that the wife of the 'Taxi Driver' passed away last year. I remember you interviewing them for one of your much earlier episodes. Their series was really nice, especially the focus on animals.
Many thanks for the kind words. Yes it's been 7½ years since I interviewed the Taxi Driver, although John said that he considered both him and Janice under that title. It was very sad indeed to hear of Janice's passing.
@@solitaryrambler I agree she was in all of them and the website is now dedicated to her memory. I'm actually revisiting some of what I perceive to be your greatest hits recently. Last night I enjoyed the charming 'Heritage of Haworth' and now I'm about to indulge in a rare episode on a city - 'Beauty of Bath'.
Thank you Patrick for another lovely film.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Luke 👍
How do you make your walks seem so effortless. I've done a few similar walks in the peaks and I huff and puff and sweat and cry at times. You are so calming to watch and so much history. I'm addicted now.
That is very nice of you to say, many thanks for taking the time to watch. I'll admit though that I huff and puff when I'm out filming these👍🏻
Hi Patrick. Only recently discovered your videos. First one I saw was Hereford which is my home town. Slowly getting through your collection of videos and enjoying them. Scenery is beautiful and you give a really good commentary about the areas. Music goes very well
with your filming. Enjoyed the video you made explaining the creation of your music. The chat you give about things such as your family etc is interesting as is your account of your covid jabs! Keep up the good work! Gill
Morning Gill, many thanks for all your kind words and for taking the time to watch. Very pleased you've been enjoying the videos and their content, i.e. music, commentary, etc. I do try to provide chats that are hopefully interesting and amusing at times😊 Thanks again and all the best 👍
I’ve only just recently discovered your videos, and what a joy they are. I loved this one especially the Manor House at the end what a lovely ruin. Many thanks.
That's lovely of you to say Rita, many thanks for watching 👍
Great video Patrick. Great having so many good walks on your doorstep❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Paul 👍
That looked a lovely walk Patrick. Looked nice and quiet too which is always a bonus. The church was very impressive. Like you, I’m not religious but love to see a nice church on a walk. The architecture with some of them is really impressive. Those geese certainly too a shine to you. They must be used to being fed by walkers to be that enthusiastic. Like you, I’ve had 3 of my 4 jabs this year. It’s become the new norm now by the look of it!
Cheers Anthony, yes this is a great local walk away from the Peak and other busy parts. I do like to include churches where I can, sometimes I've been inside before now, but I stopped once Covid started. I will try to go inside more of them again now depending on the time and length of the walks I film. Yes the geese were following me for a while, I felt bad for not giving them any food, but I know you're not supposed to really. The multiple jabs are the norm now, so I guess this will be it for a while! 😊👍
Another superb outing with the camera that's a couple of places in your last two videos you've brought to my attention Wingfield Manor & Heage Windmill that I was not previously aware of (thought I knew Derbyshire well), thanks for sharing.
Glad they've been of help, many thanks for watching 👍
Great video again Patrick! Solitude when hiking is pretty rare these days but today, our daughter & son-in-law came down from Yorkshire last night, to go hiking the Roaches etc with us which has been very special and until lunchtime, there really was just the 4 of us. Then just a very few ppl trickled in!
Thank you Maggi as always! Yes this is a nice quiet one with few people seen en route. Lovely to have had the Roaches to yourself too! 👍
We do miss this pretty landscape spent many times hiking around Derbyshire
👍
Hello Patrick another great walk thanks for posting enjoyed it . Take care .
Glad you enjoyed it again Shaun, many thanks as always 👍
Excellentvideo as usual Patrick ...lovely staert with the church and i didnotice one of my colleagues driving up a drive...wingfield manor looks quite dark and brooding but a good light it no doubt looks totally different ...Thank you once again we really do enjoy watching your journeys ..until the next one do take care ....Regards Frank & Lee......
Thanks Frank and Lee. The manor is quite foreboding in many ways but also impressibe. Hopefully it will be open to the public again one day for us to enjoy 👍
Another great video Patrick. Its a shame Wingfield Manor is closed at the moment that would be great to see. Have a great weekend. 🙏😊👍
Many thanks Cath, yes hopefully the manor will reopen sometime soon 👍
Hi Patrick.. Thanks once again for a great vid.. Always seen Wingfield Manor as we pass through and wondered what it was like.. Impressive building on the skyline.. Hadnt realised in such a state.. Shame.. Regards Ali x
Thanks for your kind words and for watching as always Ali. The manor certainly is impressive 👍
Hi Patrick, Here's a suggestion for a walk. Catch the train to Belper and walk back to Matlock as follows: Follow the DV Heritage Way north along Wyver lane and onto Whitewells lane. Then thru Shining Cliff woods to Alderwasley. There pick up the Midshires Way and go past Watergate Farm and onto Longway Bank. Drop down to Highpeak Jnct after Birchwood Farm and cross the river. Follow rd to Lea Mills and then take path on left up to Castletop Farm then upwards to Bilberry Knoll via Hearthstone lane. At Hearthstone take path across fields to Riber village and then path down with castle on your left back into Old Matlock.
Enjoy.
Thanks Stephen. Do you mean to just do this walk or make a film of it? I've featured several of the places you've mentioned in previous films, e.g. Belper, Shining Cliff Woods, Alderwasley, Bilberry Knoll 👍
I'll leave that up to you, but it is one of my favourites, especially when finishing in Wetherspoons (which has unfortunately gone now). As I live in Belper, I'd catch the train back.
Happy belated birthday to your dad and thank you for another lovely upload.
Many thanks Richard, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Good job Patrick! Loved that it wasn't a peak district walk because great walks can be found everywhere, well off the beaten track! Music was great too. Hope you are well, and your Dad.
Glad you enjoyed it Eric, yes a walk with a difference but still a nice one to do. Many thanks 👍
Hi I have just discovered your channel as I was recommended South Wingfield Manor to recently and decided to watch your video as it was the first video to appear in search results and am amazed how much time and effort has gone into this video to make it amazing and I have subscribed to channel and keep up the excellent work 👍
Hey many thanks for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for all your kind comments and for taking the time to watch 👍
@@solitaryrambler you are very welcome and I can't wait for your next video.
Regards Ash
Nice local walk again always an enjoyable watch.
Cheers Peter, pleased you enjoyed it again 👍
Another lovely walk thanks
Many thanks Linda 👍
What a lovely place to be imprisoned. Lovely place.
Thanks for watching 👍
Indeed, but during her time at Wingfield, Mary had a large retinue of staff, attended formal dinners and was entertained by her guardian The Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife, and would regularly ride through the surrounding countryside under guarded escort. She even had 10 horses, three grooms and a farrier for that purpose. It was only after a supposed escape pan was uncovered, that her detention become more of a prisoner than of a detained guest and she was moved to more heavily guarded places.
Another lovely (quiet) walk with interesting highlights. The excellent quality of your films is evident by the fact that you’re becoming recognizable by your followers.
It seems you were born approx. the month/year I was married. May, 1966 ☺️
Well-done re jabs. I would also recommend the Shingrix vaccine recommended for those >50 😁 My husband decided it wasn’t important and was sorry last New Year’s Day when he came down with a raging case of shingles with long-lasting symptoms. Vaccine highly recommended!!
Well, I have finally caught up on your channel and am looking forward to your future adventures.
Many thanks for your kind words Jean! I've been getting recogised more in the last year since I've been making films of walks a lot closer to home, so it's been lovely when people see me out and about and say hello. Yep I'm definitely all for the jabs, and since filming this have booked my booster for just after Chirstmas. All the best Jean and thanks for watching 👍
Hi Patrick. I am not familiar with the areas your walk took you through, but lovely views even though windy. I just love hearing your tales about yourself, family and friends. (Early November is my birthday month too). Another very pleasant piano composition with melodic refrain, I really like this track.
Many thanks as always Shanita. Yes it sure was windy when I shot this! It was a nice change of scene too to film this walk, less busy than most I tend to do. Glad you enjoyed the tales I told in this. I had to practice a lot for this piano composition as it was tricky, but I got there in the end so I'm very glad you enjoyed it 👍
Another great walk Patrick, another local to me that I have yet to do. I believe Wingfield Manor is only accessible via guided tour (I may be wrong). Alot of EH properties have been closed the past 2-3 years for conservation works.
Thanks Jamie. Wingfield Manor is permanently closed until further notice. but hopefully we'll be able to go inside at a later date 👍
@@solitaryrambler hopefully so, I'd love to walk around.
Another great vid.
Thanks again! 👍
Why they built All Saints' Church so near the river Amber and some distance from the village I don't know, because the churchyard would flood regularly. Don't recognise the White Hart Inn from cycling past in the 80s-90s. It was a small quiet country inn back then. Looks to have become developed into a carvery/hotel and with the usual corporate logo outside, instead of the old hand painted sign, as is unfortunately the practice these days for pubs.
