    I completely understand your reasoning Enter. And personally I too am sick and tired of the CGI in movies now a days. It's not because I'm a 90's kid and think that EVERYTHING was better then. It's because CGI has been so overused.
    I praise movies like Wallace and Grommet, Coralline and Frankinweenie. Not because of the story, humor or heart touching moments that people keep talking about. I praise them because they DO NOT USE CGI. They use Stop Animation, a form of entertainment with amazing potential that is more often than not given the cold shoulder my big movie studios.
    The most ironic part of it is this. Stop Animation is a VERY old form of entertainment. Many people know about it. But when a Stop Animation movie is put in theaters, it becomes an instant hit. Why? Not because of the story or creativity. But because the film goers of today are so used to CGI that seeing a new form of cinema is a jarring experience to them.
    Back in the 90's when Toy Story came out, film goers of then were so used to live action and 2d animation that this new form of entertainment jarred them and excited them.
    My point is this. The Human Brain is constantly trying to find new experiences. We as a species are drawn towards stimulation. But in movies now a days we are getting very little of that. It's similar to painting. If you spend so long seeing only one artist's works and then see another artist's works we are drawn toward it because it is a new form of stimulation. There needs (Once again, NEEDS) to be diversity in cinema. Kids movies shouldn't be all CGI, movies for adults shouldn't be all live action. No one form of cinema is better than the other. Having multiple forms of cinema for multiple kinds of people is very important.
    I stress this point. It is of the upmost importance that we have diversity. I leave you with a single question with multiple possibilities.
    "What would our world be like if there was only one style to everything?"

    • @Masterge77
      @Masterge77 Před 9 lety +20

      I agree with that, because if we just used CGI for everything, it would get old quickly, and it already has. I haven't seen a 2D animated film in theaters in AGES that wasn't originally released in Japan or something or only has a limited release. Not to mention the whole "animation is for children" thing that I cannot stand, since animation is art, not some mindless apparition to put kids in front of so they can shut up. Japanese animation understands this well, why doesn't the American animation industry understand it though?

    • @thewittywhygaming6487
      @thewittywhygaming6487 Před 9 lety +12

      I think it might have something to do with the history of North America and Japan. Japan has a history of doing challenging things. Not for money or fame, but for the honor of completing something extremely difficult.
      Take for example "Ninja Warrior", known as the most difficult course in the world. The American version does it for money. But the original Japanese version did it for the honor of doing the impossible.
      Culture can have a big impact in the media of different nations. Things such as holiday specials. America has Christmas, but Japan might have completely different holidays.
      It's possible Japanese animators stick with 2d animation out of respect for that has been the way it has been done for a long time. Or possibly that they find satisfaction in that style of animation.
      Remember that no two nations' cultures are the same. And culture has a truly big impact on a nation's media and customs.

    • @Masterge77
      @Masterge77 Před 9 lety +11

      Max Power I agree, especially considering what happened with Japan in the 1940's (World War II and the bombing of Hiroshima), not to mention how the Tokugawa Shogunate isolated Japan from the rest of the world, causing Japan to develop it's own unique culture, all while the rest of the world's nations simply followed and adapted the cultural ways of larger empires, which in turn were caused by the beliefs of religious groups such as Christians and Muslims, among other things.
      Something I admire about Japanese culture is how they look back into their history to find ways to improve their future, and this is why they've been so successful in a number of fields while America simply follows the same beliefs that the European cultures it was born from believed, which were mostly born from Roman and Christian values and beliefs.
      Another big contributor is the capitalist system of the US, being that if something becomes popular, everyone has to find the need to copy it in hopes that they will gain similar success, with varying results.
      Interestingly, for a time in the late 90's and early 2000's, no thanks to Toonami, Anime heavily influenced the American animation industry, leading to series like Samurai Jack, the original Teen Titans, and Avatar the Last Airbender, among other series, but after the original Toonami was cancelled, the American animation industry began to regress back to the close-minded simplicity it had in the 80's and before then, with most anime airing in the US in the daytime hours being toyetic franchises not unlike the Pokemon franchise, and most imports ending up being crappy Canadian shows (Johnny Test comes to mind) that contribute to the regression of animation, even with good animated shows like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe airing.
      Some people believe that we are slowly entering a second dark age of animation because of these practices.

    • @thewittywhygaming6487
      @thewittywhygaming6487 Před 9 lety +8

      Completely true my friend.
      I'm not saying that Japan is better at everything. It's just that Japan's history is so rich that they can draw from that to inspire amazing books, manga and anime.
      And most of all they have a respect for their animation. The country in itself has a great respect for the creativity that people like Akira Toriyama and Ichira Oda who make truly original and magical works.

    It's awesome to hear you don't really hate South Park and Ren & Stimpy. But even if you did, I still respect your opinions nonetheless.
    I agree that it's better to blame the copycats than to blame the influences.
    I admit I'm indifferent to Call of Duty but it made such a terrible influence on the gaming industry to the point where more FPS games start to get made and the term "Variety" started to die out.
    It's not COD's fault the industry is like this today, that blame goes to the greedy, douchebag developers and publishers for appealing to the lowest common denominator by taking notes from COD without even caring.
    Seriously, people! Why is both the industry and the community so bent on making variety obsolete?!

      I used to hate new South Park. The writers have made almost every character and storyline unlikable. But I've looked into the episodes deeply and it seems to be one of those shows where you have to give it a lot of thought (maybe a little too much). There is a lot of sub context that you have to look for. I still don't like it, but I can respect it. Although it kinda seems like Trey Parker and Matt Stone are drunk off their own power at this point.

      I heard CoD sales are dying as of sometime after the release of CoD:AW
      I have a feeling it won't have much of an effect on that "variety" problem though; I think the biggest issue is the HUGE budgets involved in any AAA game meaning publishers are often to blending anything and everything that *appears* to sell even if it turns into an illogical, disorganized paste or they make a halfassed "copypasted"-style game that *looks* good.

    Shrek is the reason why we don't get much 2D animation films? D: I much prefer 2D animation than CGI, especially because of great art styles. I was wondering why they aren't more 2D animated films like Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, etc

    • @aede3805
      @aede3805 Před 8 lety +9

      +eGPNetwork I'm really upset that Disney fired so many people for something so lazy. 2D takes talent and hard work, CGI just takes a bunch of people at a computer moving shit around. I love both CGI and 2D (Studio Ghibli, Pixar, etc) but all the CGI movies and no 2D movies is really depressing.

    • @thedanhibiki6960
      @thedanhibiki6960 Před 8 lety +18

      +Aedestir This is a bit of a short sighted comment. Now I agree that 2D/traditional animation in general is not being used to it's potential, not even nearly. However even CGI takes effort for it to succeed, I think it's unfair to claim it's "just a bunch of people at a computer moving shit around"
      Again, I can, with full confidence, say that there are few people who want more feature length 2d films, but it's very unfair to discredit or even insult the efforts of people who work on GOOD CGI like Kung Fu Panda, Wreck-It Ralph, Up and man Zootopia is great if you haven't seen it.
      I wish there was room for both, but unfortunately that's not the case for now

      You know, I don't believe Chicken Little ripped off Shrek, they have nothing in common. If anything Mr. Enter should have reviewed The Wild, which is Disney's failed attempt to be Madagascar. And I say it is their worst movie and it is like the 46th animated movie they made into their canon. All that movie was The Lion King, Finding Nemo and Madagascar in a blender. Nothing original about it and that is why I hate it.

This teaches kids it's alright to just ignore if a person has personal fears (let's say a spider) and just force their fear onto them (Like throwing a spider straight into the face of a person who is scared of spiders) It's NOT okay and it would NOT have worked out like that in the real world -.-

      Dainn Greywall I see Clarence as a nostalgia show for adults. They can look back when they were 8-10 year olds and they were playing on the streets and they can remember how stupid they were. I've seen 4 or 5 episodes, what I saw it looked like that "stupidity" was just kid sillyness, children aren't idiots, they just lack some information and they aren't familiar with the world's rules yet. They don't have developed personalities, that's why they have to learn not to steal, lie, etc. They are "childish" of course. I'm not planning to watch any more episodes but from what I've seen, those are pretty realistic child characters.

    • @TheDragoon9713
      @TheDragoon9713 Před 9 lety +29

      KidSnivy69 _Yeah_...That show is fucking weird. The feeling it gave me wasn't so much a charming call back to my childhood as it was a call-back to the feeling of baby sitting some special needs kids. Like...you can't really laugh, or smile at the weird shit they do...and you can't really blame them, or be upset by the weird shit they do, because they don't know any better. And I don't mean like Adventure Time weird which is just oddball humour, like a shape-shifting dog, or inventing strange slang. I mean it's like watching the day-to-day life of the slow kid, and his friend with ADHD, and his other friend with OCD.
      Steven Universe is a _way_ better example of a show that gives a feeling of nostalgia for your childhood. Steven has the energy, and enthusiasm a lot of us had back then, and while his childish nature can be annoying, or obnoxious, it's done in a way that's realistic for how your average child really acts. It reminds you of a time you got excited enough about your favourite snack, you could sing the jingle for it from the commercial, even if it annoyed some of the older people around you. It's sweet to see him grow up a little with every episode, and it reminds you how much _you've_ grown up since you were a kid Steven's age. The episode with his crush where they get stuck in a magic bubble is also done really well. Sweet, but innocent, and child-like. Puppy love. Clarence meanwhile, has an episode where he takes a girl into the woods, and they can't help but say the phrase "make out" several times.
      *TL;DR*: Clarence's "child-like" nature gives you an awkward feeling that he's not all there, and that you shouldn't be laughing at his quirks. Steven Universe's child-like nature is more genuine, and doesn't creep you out.
      That said, I haven't watched a lot of either show, but I have watched loads more Steven Universe than I have Clarence...mostly because of the uncomfortable feeling the latter gives me.

I don't really like these going in, but I am willing to keep an open mind and judge these on their own terms by seeing how different their premises are from the original Lilo & Stitch, and what Yuna and Ai are like as their own character for how different they are from Lilo, or if they are the same character as her, but they are not shows I would like to openly talk about with other people. They're actually two of my favorite animated Disney movies - Treasure Planet because I friggen love space (and Lilo and Stitch is pretty much the ONLY OTHER animated Disney movie that even involves space); Atlantis because they did such a good job making a group of snarky, cynical explorers really interesting and relatable, and did an amazing job blending 2D with CGI animation.

    #5, it's all about proper framing of your characters. It's not about what they do, but how we're supposed to perceive their actions. If you fail to frame your character's actions properly, then the message you're trying to make/address fails. This is something people need to understand in order to have strong characters and a strong story.

    I'm not saying it's not still horribly heavy handed but that Family Guy episode is more than "god doesn't exist because Meg is ugly." Its more like god probably doesn't exist because of the horrible cruelties Meg has endured at the hands of the people who are supposed to care for her, a totally innocent (or at least originally innocent) child being subjected to the messed up shit she has been sort of contradicts the idea of an all knowing, all powerful, loving creator.

    I have to strongly disagree with you on the whole clarence thing, just because the show's creator did stupid shit, doesn't mean the show was influenced by it. Despite of that, the writing staff were very passionate of the show. Skyler page fucked up, but that doesn't mean he IS fucked up. Take that away then watch the show. Clarence really is admirable because it perfectly describes childhood wonder and imaginatiion, while also being totally dark and real without being obvious about it. I don't mean to sound redundant, but i truly don't believe that you should judge a person's work on a bias you have against them.

    Fun fact, in one of the scenes Enter shows of the Go-animate movie you can see two characters talking in front of a display filled with Lego sets, a number of which being the specific set number 8092 or Luke's landspeeder from the Lego Star Wars theme. This set was released in 2010 as well, further cementing the timeframe for when the movie was released if Adventure Time somehow wasn't enough for you.

    I kinda want him to review Generator Rex just because that cartoon is so completely underrated in the era it came in and because of how many people compare it to Ben 10 (it is better than Ben 10) because it was made by the same creator but its ending was so bad and it already had a lot working against it like being in the cartoon era on cartoon network with live action shows and crap and good things put together (in other words when there was the early Adventure Time and Secret Mountain Fort Awesome premiering in time frame you know 2010-2013) so it would be cool to hear opinions on such an underrated cartoon

      Generator Rex was a fantastic cartoon show, with a great story from beginning to end and was indeed better than Ben 10 (for one, Rex is generally more likable than Ben). But for a reviewer as Mr.Enter it has one big problem: it isn't an episodic show. You have to watch the whole show, to put everything in perspective.
      For an Admirable Animation Review, I can't really think of a really outstanding episode actually. It was a great series and handled their themes rather well but the true strength of the series was how well the episodes were connected, and how small details would be build ups for important plot points in later episodes.
      As for Animated Atrocities, there is one episode that would deserve an Animated Atrocity Review... Six Minus Six for fucking up one of their best characters for no reason, as amnesia doesn't even work that way. What are my problems with the episode. From previous episodes, we know Six is a cold-blooded, nonsense kinda guy, who was professional and reserved, long before he even met Rex. In fact, the only change in his character in these 5 years, is the fact that he become less ruthless. But when his memory of the last 6 years was wiped, he was not only the ruthless killer again, he was also rude and acted like punk kid with an attitude. If his memory was reseted to six years back, so would his personality. And it isn't like his character won't have worked in this scenario. The change in character ruined the episode for me and I was happy to see, that it was pretty much ignored afterwards.

    I would also categorize the original 'Teen Titans' as a bad influence, because it's brand of humor would pave the way for crap like 'Ultimate Spider-Man', and of course, 'Teen Titans Go', which would also pave the way for 'Breadwinners'. Also, I would also blame 'Toy Story' paving the way for 2D animation slow decline in cinemas, and why it's so rare nowadays.

    You know, there's this one Calvin and Hobbes strip, in which Calvin's dad comments about how Saturday morning cartoons are "half-hour commercials for toys", and as a 2000's kid, I never really understood that. After Mr. Enter talked about how cartoons in the 80's were made to sell toys, I understood, seeing as that particular strip was written in 1988.

    Remember, "Products of the Time" applies to bad (or even good) cartoons from earlier times with standards we have moved past (unless Mr. Enter grew up in the time like Rocket Power and The Goode Family), but if other cartoons from the 1970s or 1980s can still get videos for the same reasons as cartoons from the 1990s, 2000s, or 2010s already reviewed, they can still be reviewed. He also said it's hard to review a grossest show from the 1990s, but he didn't say he couldn't because he already reviewed Mega Babies and later reviewed The Brothers Grunt and Shnookums and Meat...somehow.
