One time the General even agreed to personally take my Marxist friend on a helicopter tour to show off the beauty of Chile's geography, despite their political differences. I never did see or hear from my friend again, no doubt he was so in awe of being in the great man's presence that he instantly uprooted his whole life and started working full time at the presidential palace to better serve the general!
