George was forecast a podium but the weather forecast told him no
George took the marble race too serious
George must have thought of the rain as merely some sweat, regarding he stayed out on those slicks way too long
Mercedes strategy has been subpar this year... I honestly think they didn't replace Vowles properly. Even the pitstops, not being as relevant, aren't that great. Too much complacency.
Strategy was really bad for Mercedes. Both Lewis and George recovered pretty well but George was unlucky at the end
Sainz hacked Mercedes’ strategy computers
Matt in Redbull hospitality wearing Merc T-shirt supporting Leclerc 😂
Thats the beauty of F1, cant do that in the PL
he’s such an uber fan he can do that. 😊
@@ikkezegtieor I’m Italy circuit of speed . Italiaans and British f1 fans are stupid
I'll be honest, kudos to RB for still inviting them even though they know that Matt doesn't exactly like RB, but Tommy there to save the day!
Nah I still don’t understand why he let manipulator Toto Wolf win for money it disgusts me
Crazy that a track where everybody says it's nearly impossible to overtake with modern day F1 cars has just set an all-time overtake record with 186 overtakes in the race... 🤯
wow
I feel like half of them were by Piastri and Albon
Thats also excluding overtakes in the pits and first lap overtakes.
@@Haerunadid you even watch the race?
And another record for most pit stops ever (107 pit stops)
Checo being 4s behind Max because he was saving tyres.. what was he saving them for, Abu Dhabi??
For Danny Ric
He did it for the environment...
Because he was busy whispering to the tires who can't speak Spanish.
🤣😂🤪
He was saving the tyres for the light rain that he was told about. Max was told to push to build a gap above P3
I would argue, Leclerc pitting at the last moment and team not being prepared, was still preferable strategy to going around one more lap.
That’s like saying it could’ve been worse, getting paralysed, jumping off a cliff I could’ve died.
@@gianni_schicchi😭😭
@@gianni_schicchiI mean he was in front of Sainz before the damage slowed him down so much so it's not like he made a bad strategy call even though they didn't have the tires ready for him
Leclerc was way too late with telling his team that he wanted Inters. He had to say it when he made the decision to pit, not when he was already entering the pit lane. They had no time to get the tires before he arrived at their box.
The floor damage was also entirely his fault by going off in lap 3.
But that are smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that he was slow. The first lap he was lacking behind and got overtaken. And that's why he run into a mclaren which started behind him.
late call
I really feel the fact that Albon never had a pitstop in the first few laps went under the radar. He survived the rain on his softs and then drove on to lap 44 and still finished within the points. While it wasn't the best to stick out with the slicks, it is very impressive.
Absolute madness indeed. I can't believe so many people didn't notice it. I think he did it because he used up all his intermediates in qualifying, as they only get 4 sets per weekend, and the rain was passing pretty quickly.
I didn't notice it until I rewatched it after the race. I really don't understand how he managed it....
Maybe the rain cooled the track so the softs could go on longer.... But still, in the rain and all, crazy
Verstappen casually having the best season of any driver in F1 history and some people still want to be bitter and claim it's only the car. We've seen dominant cars before but we've never seen a driver be 100% on it on each and every race weekend. Just be fair and appreciate that you are seeing something historic right in front of your eyes.
We've seen Seb before.
True that he's having a sensational season and of course it's not just the car though in all fairness I would like to see another kind of benchmark other than Perez. Asking for fans of other drivers/teams to appreciate it is a tougher sell... just like asking to appreciate your rival football team to win the league unbeatable. 😂
@@orbit1894 who said on tv that the thing max does with the car is uncomprehensive for him.
I feel like it's the opposite now. Max and RB fans want other people to enjoy Max dominance even though they are a Mercedes, McLaren or Ferrari fan. You can enjoy the season if you like but it's wrong to shame other F1 fans for not enjoying an uncompetitive season where only one team is winning.
@@soundscape26its not about the benchmark but more about the fact of how consisten he is not even hamilton or seb did this
Alonso, on slicks, in the wet - that was some awesome driving, and Zandvoort does deliver. So, off to Monza, another track on my favourite list.....
What a race for Max to equal Seb, I’m sure Seb sent him another text that night. Redbull was so cool to invite you too! You’re apart of history now!
Never thought of it that way good for Matt and Tommy 😃
Imagine you quit your job with a company that you built and within less than a year you get to build something new and it’s the best experience you could possibly have! You two guys are really something! I am so incredibly happy for you!
totally agree!! it’s so heart warming for all of us fans going along for the ride 😊
Thought you were talking about Alonso for a second
Just love Pierre and his unbridled joy when he kicks ass. Hope to see more from him.
I know there's talk of alternating Zandvoort and Spa races but I for one would be gutted to see less races in The Netherlands. I love that quirky little track and it's atmosphere.
Well... The American owners don't care for fun and atmosphere, they care about money.
You'll see either 30 races each year in a few seasons, or the good old tracks will be ditched for overpriced and overheated desert tracks...
Saudi Arabia, Dubai, all these wonderful theocratic dictatorships will buy out all races one by one.
That banking into the finish line is epic
I think as long as Max is on the grid Zandvoort will always get an yearly round.
I wouldn’t worry, within ten years F1 will be finished. Think great reset.
@@ange1098 Nonsense.
As an Alpha Tauri fan, can people stop always saying that one driver has a bad race or is bad when you dont have good reasons. Liam had a phenomenal race for his experience and to stay on the track through all of the conditions, and Yuki was absolutely insane through the first 30ish laps before his team messed up his strategy
You were torro rosso fan before the name change?
he had an awesome race. super impressed
@@hideouspatje no, I'm a new fan, not from DTS though, just enjoy racing, and I'm a Alpha Tauri fan mainly because of Yuki, but unlike some fans I don't try to make my favourite driver sound better by trying to degrade other drivers
@@frostijjj it was by no means an attack on you or your choice of favorite team, I was merely curious, I just never met an alpha tauri fan, I've "met" (in comments not in real life) some torro rosso fans who still call it torro rosso though, hence my question.
@@hideouspatje sorry, didn't mean to come off as aggressive just saying in general there are fans who always put down other drivers, also yeah, this is my first season as an F1 fan
Fernando in F1 and Scott Dixon in IndyCar both are still at the top of there games despite there ages. Scott Dixon at 43 and Fernando at 42 are performing better than others in there 20's.
Gasly was world class yesterday 🗺
Honstly that Fernando drive was amazing. The start, the reactions, the cleverness and the race craft was phenomenal. Lets hope for a win 33 this year. The man has it all.
Whoever the race director was yesterday deserves credit on a job well done.
Legit there was SO much going on and I think they did a great job
Except for the endless replays of a very uneventful start, around lap 3 or 4 when there was plenty of action on track.
@@soundscape26 Im talking about the race director not the broadcast. You are right though -that replay montage, ive never seen before and hope not to again.
@@BwInNewJersey Ups, my bad.
Not intended to be pedantic, just FYI it’s whomever
This weekend has finally brought up front the fact, that McL also has some big issues with race execution. Something that gets hidden behind Alpine / Ferrari circus and their own hippie reputation. But now they have squandered another solid point haul. This needs to be talked about more. They need to be better, if they are serious about rejoining the top pack!
My thoughts exactly. As the car and drivers get stronger their weak execution under pressure becomes harder to ignore.
Matt and Tommy being on cloud nine after a race makes for a really fun podcast.
Very happy to see them get into all these insane places.
Happy you guys enjoyed the Dutch GP, me as a Dutchie did so aswell.
It’s weird to refer to yourself as a “dutchie” but with the popularity of max, I’ve come to realize that you are a special bunch

Wasn't the drug molly going out of the Netherlands? Because if it was it makes sense why I saw raves everywhere this weekend in the stands hahaha
Albon is always an afterthought, barely gets a mention. It's one of the reasons I support him. Other than a weak start, he blew away expectations. Norris and Russel ("I am forecast an ego") weren't the only ones who lost potential podiums by not jumping to intermediates. Albon was right there. And they left him out (again) in the downpour to hydroplane his way around on slicks for an entire lap while others were binning it on intermediates and he still managed P8. Legend.
He didn't have any inters left after qualy that might be one of the reasons why

Pretty sure all of the race reviews are the full podcast
@@TheBest14184no, it's edited

Even the Dutch national anthem was exciting this time. 🎉
Red Bull knows how to appriciate the (important real) fans.. You guys deserved the VIP treament for all the things you did and do for F1 and it's popularity, especially among a younger audience.. You made WTF1 great and now you are building your own F1 channel again.. Thank you Matt & Tommy and keep on going! 👍👊
About Logan Sargeant .. watched his accident several times now .. but if you look very closely, you can see that something snapped in his left front suspension just before he went off.
You can also see the two front tyres aren't pointing in the same direction after hitting the kerb.
Vowles said he had a hydraulic issue that caused the inability to turn, not Sargeant's fault
@@Evarakeus yes like maybe an hydraulic hose from the powersteering breaking for instance.
classic, 2 Brits abroad and red as a lobster
If max would have stopped at lap 1, he would be held in the pitlane for ages for cars passing, I do think that was on their minds as well
True, he had a clear pass by going late.
Why? If max would have stopped at the end of lap 1 (instead of Checo) he would have been the one who was 15 seconds ahead of the field instead of Checo
@@desktopdesign7196Is everyone else also pit he would have had to wait for all of them, with Perez he started a little further back so might as well go for it, he also wouldn't have had to wait for the cars in front
@@desktopdesign7196 But Checo needed to pit first to overcut Lando, Alonso, Russell, Sainz, etc. That was a good call.
@@desktopdesign7196Red Bull has the first garage in the pit lane. So if Max stops and everyone follows, everyone but Perez will be passing him to get to their garage, so Max could not be released until everyone has passed. So he would be standing there for like 20 seconds just waiting for everyone to pass.
The fact Zandvoort is the race of the year so far is just so wild. And the fact the whole "it's hard to pass" thing turned out to be so totally wrong, is just one of those beautiful F1 moments. Oh and as for the commentators, they didn't really mention it was raining until the race started.
2 years ago I was seated at the arena and it was litterly the most boring place to sit.. zero action.. yesterday I was also in the arena out area and now saw 5 in one round (would actually be sitting on main straight first) and this was a rare occasion and we won’t see that many overtakes at Zandvoort for a long time I am afraid.. so the rain really saved it
You can overtake on the main straight sure but it's quite hard in the second DRS zone.
you didnt watch Lando and Lewis hunting down drivers didnt you,
I saw you Matt... you guys were so lucky, great video again!. Being even beyond the bucket list, Zandvoort will be in your heads forever and ever to tell your grandchildren about. Everything that contributed to this experience, Max, the weather , the race, the podium ceremonies ...keep enjoying guys. It was a joy to see your joy!!
Only these blokes can get sponsored and brought to the Grand Prix by Mercedes, watch the race alongside the people from Red Bull in their Energy Station, and then totally fangirl about a driver from a THIRD team spraying them with champagne. Everyone gets good PR today. Love you guys!
Absolutely love the success you two are having, so glad you’re getting invited to races and getting to enjoy the sport to the fullest!!!
Standing behind Kelly Piquet was a sureshot way to be seen on TV.
🤔Potential future series idea for P1 - Team Ratings like that for Drivers Ratings. So many incidents where the driver performed but the team let them down. Strategies, execution (Pitstops, communications), setup, etc.
Man, I’m a new fan (COTA 21’ first race) and I’m an Alonso fan through pure randomness. When I picked him as my fav driver I had no idea he’d even won a championship, let alone two. Do you know how exciting this year is? It feels so validating just for me I can imagine how his fans from day 1 feel.
We feel blessed.
Like living again what he do for Spain and all of us in 2005 and 2006, 2007, 2010 or 2012. When all Spain was pushing behind him.
Alonso is pure talent and definetely one of the best drivers in F1 and motorsport history.
how old are you , 50 ?
God bless you Tommy for mentioning Yuki's great performance! Glad you saw what we Yuki Fans saw and it broke our hearts. These laps there just crushed our hopes and hearts so much it still feels like its going to hurt for months... 💔
Yeah, it was a terrible decision by the team for not pitting Yuki earlier,I was angry with the result when he should be getting the best result and points if not for the failure of his team. He should be mad with it.
To be fair, Yuki’s race was ruined when he crashed into George.
@@TheCrumb74 which he wouldnt even gotten close if the had pitted him right. And even after that they let him in for several laps...
Lawson replacing Yuki?

Honestly best race of the season so far! And great to see Matt on tv during trophy ceremony 🤣🤣
Crazy Dutch 🇳🇱 track where everybody says it's nearly impossible to overtake with modern day F1 cars has just set an all-time overtake record with 186 overtakes in the race... 🤯
They moved the drs zone which helped alot. Seems like they are in the correct spot now, allows to overtake on the straight or get really close where they can try to overtake in the banked turn 3
rain isnt part of the track overtakes happened because of it, melbourner still clear
Really happy you got to do that guys
WOOO YES! Was waiting all day for this. THANK YOU!
I am happy for you guys that you are sooo improving :) Thank you for a photo with me and my son at the back of the padock on Friday, literally minutes before Oscar's and Daniel's crash. You looked like big kids in a candy store! (so did we!). All the best to you and many more such experiences. :)

was mercs strategy really bulletproof in their era? it seemed like that when not much happened and they could just do their prepared stategy, but often when unforseen circumstances came around they bottled it.
I can remember a certain 75-years Mercedes fest where they decided to complete a 1,5 minute pitstop.
They had loads of blunders...
Not at all. I rewatched the entire 2016 season a couple of months ago and both Nico and Lewis dropped a tonne of points because they were pitted early into traffic and couldn’t make their way back to the front.
@@cg_2k72dropped a ton of points when they won 19 out of 21??-that’s not a ton maybe dropped points to each other
@@marangmatlala6253 both cars can’t finish first, so maybe use some context clues to figure out what’s being said first
not really and thats whant made their doominance more beararble, plus their drivers actually raced not just giving the preferred startegy to maxiboy or telling checo to move over, pathetic

So happy for you guys! I smiled so much when you talked about your experience at the Dutch GP. Great race as well!
Proud of Liam🇳🇿
Still Sainz does some his own strategy. Charles is not to confident to do that.
... for one reason or another.
I have just rewatched the first 4 laps of the race (before the tv coverage cut away to replay the start!) and it might the greatest start to an F1 race of all time. It was just bananas!!
Great race and fantastic to see you both rewarded for taking the brave step you took to go independent earlier this year. Talk about a good strategy call.
I literally unsubscribed while I was watching that announcement. And when P1 popped up in my feed, I was 100% stoked. Good stuff. It's the favorite F1 channel I watch.
yes and with more overtakes then any other race of the season. Fantastic race.
It was amazing how fast that track dried up after each splash!
I think that did a lot towards making it a memorable race. No ages of waiting with the SC testing the track ... just rain > racing!
That's because of the wind and the asphalt...
George didn’t do much to help the wet track either, “Daddy forecast me for a podium wahhhh” 😢😂
We have a kind of asvalt called zoab.. basically balls under it and holes for fast draining.. it’s all over our highways and I forget sometimes it’s not everywhere else in the world
Mainly because there arent really any flat spots on the track, loads of banking and small hills
@@mikko3 there was ton of standing water in the arena, the surface was flat enough
Still can’t get over the fact that post-race Palmer and Buxton called Lawson’s drive decent, but not spectacular. What more did they expect? He had an absolute brilliant race!
Palmer... he should show data and comparison, but keep his mouth about others performances, because if anybody flopped in F1 from britain, it was him
I mean all he did was not crash, that isn't "spectacular"
@@mikko3 he managed to keep the car between the lines during the worst conditions possible, in one of the worst cars on the grid, while people like Perez and Hamilton were sliding off, and managed to outscore his teammate. To be honest, I noticed WimLex talking to Max with such passionate emotions that I thought... damn, we're lucky to live in this country.
I know, I know... there's lots to say about the legitimacy of our monarchy in the 21th century, but damn our monarchy is way...way better than the elitist English bunch of weirdo child molesters.
"To be fair, not going to go on too much of a roast of Mercedes" True, don't bite the hand that sponsors you 😅😅
The team's radars absolutely nailed the weather forecast yesterday, down to the minute.
I got here via the Dutch podcast in the Heineken place setting with Guido and the other guy. Which was a nice interview.
🎮🕹️😂 Tommy‘s „F1-Glitch“ comment on Ferrari‘s pitstop had me laughing the hell out of my living room 🙏🏼😂 Gotta get right in my Simrig in the evening hahaha
If we had two Perez Types driving both Red Bull Cars, we would not have the discussion that "Red Bull has the best car" all the way! ... Max can make most cars look like "the best car" because he knows HOW TO ADEPT best! ... Read the track, calculate risks and know when to do what is best in almost any circumstances and so much more!
35:06 "Williams have got a good car." I just had to rewind and listen to the sweet, sweet sound of that line again.
I listen to the podcast then I watch the video. I can't get enough. Thank you guys for the incredible content ❤
George forecast a podium 😂
Tommy’s wave should always make the cut😂
Also the Dutch GP was so chaotic and entertaining, honestly feels like the best race of the season so far. The only downer was that Danny Ric was not on the grid, but besides that.. it was a banger!!
Liam Lawson killed it on his F1 debut 🎉
He's certainly a mature and skilled driver. It was a joy to watch him in DTM, even though he got robbed.
The problem is pressure, pressure changes everything in this sport and when in a downward spiral it’s hard to get out, we see it with Charles but also with Checo
Zandvoort rave was amazing the race was also cool.
George: But I was forecast for a podium. Is that rain?
Mercedes: No George. It’s your tears. Stop crying.
Hamilton: Should we go Inters?
Mercedes: Full Wets Lewis. George is chucking it down…
21:11 "And of course it's for Charles Leclerc" 😄
I'm only 12 seconds in and I'm very weirded out that Tommy is on the left side and Matt is on the right side 😵💫😝
It's like watching ant and Dec and Dec stands on the left
FIA need to fit sprinklers to all tracks😂
Then they would red flag every race
Is it a coincidence that the two drivers who excel in mediocre cars used to be teammates of Max Verstappen?
I'm thinking of Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, but you may even include (I'm sorry Matt) Carlos Sainz.
3:40 " give me more alonso , with your ... " LMAO
19:55 Ferrari didn't have wet tyres ready because they told Leclerc not to pit and Leclerc ignored the team and came in at the last second. Leclerc was right to do this and as he said himself, the time he lost because the tyres weren't ready was small compared to the time he would have lost driving another lap on dry tyres.
And they probably didn’t change his front wing, because they didn’t have any spares left … due to his earlier crashes
Definitely race of the year. 186 overtaking actions, 63 in lap 3 alone. Insane!
Alonso back on the podium ❤🎉
Martin Brundle was at home screaming "be on the right tire at the right time"
Genuinely happy for you Matt and Tommy for being sprayed by Fernando's champagne! I would definitely do the same if I get the chance! 🎉
Chuck got chucked out when the skies were chucking at the same time ferrari decided to chuck the race.
Both of you guys were on F1TV's coverage of practice on Friday.
The only thing better than the GP is the Matt and Tommy podcast!
Jolyon Palmers analysis that if you did not pit on lap 1 or 2, it was actually worth to stay out was pretty insightful. It's how Albon still finished 8th. George is evidence of this because he did pit late for inters and got destroyed for it
You guys were in Kym Illman's video among the celebrity spottings.
Your comments abot the podium really reinforce my opinions on letting the fans be there and on the grid instead of celebrities!!
Was a 10/10 for me, like, if it was that level of scrambling and racing every race, who could complain. Heaps of fun that was. Same with the rain last year... I just get giddy when the stream starts and the live feed from the helicopter shot shows the patchy shadows of clouds on damp looking track
I feel that pain. But your pain is cathartic to us viewers. Please continue to express that rage.
