@boopy12g I am so sorry that you have been in so much pain. This world sometimes can be a cruel place indeed and yet it can be the most beautiful if you just give it a chance. Its kinda like chess itself, doesn't really matter if you are in a worse position you have to make the next move and even if that doesn't work, you move on to the next game right away. Its like when you are on a losing streak for too long and losing rating left and right, you think you will quit playing after each game but the inherent beauty keeps attracting you and once you get of the longest losing streak of your life, you gain your highest rating ever and it feels amazing to even look at that loosing streak as a highlight on your profile but now you know that it doesn't matter.
No matter how bad it gets, there is always hope in life.

H i! Could you explain how bidding works in armageddon ? just in general

    • @galeathh
      @galeathh Před 3 měsíci +1

Bidding in Armageddon is where the players have a chance to bid a time to play as black. The reasoning is that black is superior in this time format, only needing a draw and thus black is the preferred colour.
Starting at an equal time, for example, 15 minutes, the players would need to choose the amount of time they think they need to play for a draw/win as black.
For example, Player A chooses 9 minutes 32 seconds (9:32) Player B chooses 10 minutes (10:00), Player A gets the black pieces in the game.
Whoever bid lower, would have the black pieces for the match.
On the other hand, white would get the full 15 minutes to play for a win.
Think of it like bidding for an auction, but instead of whoever is higher, its whoever is lower.

8:40 perhaps it would have been better for Ding to consider some sort of D4 pawn break. Sure you would lose a pawn, but it seems like the infiltration near the black king could be a good try when black’s rooks are in such a passive position. Maybe put the queen on g3 and rooks on c1 and c2 and then try for d4? Seems at least a bit more complicated than just opening up the h file for Magnus’s rooks.

Any armageddon game in any tournament means that the player with the white pieces (Ding) needs the win to get the extra point, while the player with the black pieces (Magnus) only needs a draw to get the extra point

      They play normal classical game.....
If Classical game ends in a draw they don't get half points each like other tournament...they will enter a format called "Armageddon"
Where black will have less time and a draw/win counts as a win for black..and white should win a game to get a full point....

All good answers. Just adding that the concept was invented in order to make classical chess more entertaining and engaging. Similar to Fischer Random but changing time and win rules rather than piece set up.

What is the points system for this tournament? Do players who win the Classical game get an advantage over players who win by Armageddon? They really should, otherwise. It is supposed to be a Classical tournament before it is Armageddon. Players should not be able to draw every Classical game in a snooze fest, but win the Armageddon just because they are a better speed player.

If you can magically transport Bobby Fischer to the modern era, but you don't allow him to study all the knowledge accumulated in the last 50 years, he'd lose against any super-GM in the modern era. Chess is like any other intellectual subject. Modern players have the advantage of all the knowledge discovered by people before them. Even a high school science student know more physics than Isaac Newton did. Modern players also have the benefit of studying with engines. They know which opening lines are sound. They have a repertoire of new opening traps that older generation players wouldn't have known. As for natural chess ability, then no one can possibly know. One would not only have to bring back Fischer, but other greats like Paul Morphy, Adolf Anderssen, Mikhail Tal, etc.

      @@IExistSometimes
It is objective to say who repeated the position a third time. But you’re right, that doesn’t necessarily mean they forced it.
and the context can change during the game.
Forcing a draw when you only have a king, that’s commendable and we should encourage it.
Forcing a draw when you still have winning chances, less so.
I think what I’d like to see from this rule change is situations where a player is down material, but can counter the attack by forcing them to repeat. If the attacker fall into repetition, they only get 0.4, but if they avoid repetition and find a new way to push the attack, they still have winning chances. That would encourage dynamic play.
In addition, when players are tempted to go into a theory heaven Berlin defense and draw by repetition on move 25, it’s no longer an even trade.
Maybe the 0.6 should always go to black? Maybe whichever player has less material?
