I had that happen to a Sanli engine.
Customer had run it low on oil and as the hardened steel crank runs in the aluminium engine casing it had worn the casing. Several other people had just replaced the oil seal and not realised that the crank had play in the top end.
I don't like declaring a mower engine is kaput to a customer.
There is a very similar one at work, a Toro with a Honda engine. I start it by standing on the deck to pull it. You would think the handle would be resting on a hook. ....Oh and it is used on banks.
Mick, I found my first ever Flymo on a farm in Wales back in 1974. Unfortunately it wasn't complete enough to fire-up but I had ridden an airboat on the Themes a couple of months before so the concept was already known. Glad to see Riley Boy in fine nick! Great video Cheers!

What they call FUBAR!
You notice when you pull the starter rope from behind the machine as you would with a regular mower, it jumps up! There's an art to starting a hover! Listen up! Best to do it on a hard surface. Keep the handles upright 👆 , put one foot on the shroud and pull to the side of the machine and up. You can use the handlebar to counter the starter torque, easy when you've cracked it! 😉

If you replaced the cord the other way round would you not save on cut off cord.

Crikey Mick. Never try to start one of those things pulling it towards you with no support on the machine. Disaster waiting to happen. Where the foot mark is on the hood that's where to put your foot. Tilt the machine slightly off the ground with your foot on the hood then pull. Much, much safer. These were great machines when they ran with the Tecumseh 2 stroke engines. As you say and for obvious reasons the 4 strokes were a bit more problematic when doing constant banking/verge work.
Mick I need help with a Norton Villiers f12 engine it has the Amal carb. this one has been taken off the mower and is now used as a stationery engine, now after sitting unused for a few months it will not start new spark plug breaker points cleaned up fresh fuel etc even tried easy start spray checked plug for spark was ok not even a whimper.
@@lesliephillip-v9d hmmm hard to say.. the spark may not be strong enough..
I've got a honda mower it's seized how do you unseize it
@@Rileyjosh-x9i spark plug out.. and put some oil down the head.. leave over night.. take the recoil off and the next day try turning it with a big socket on the flywheel
