as soon as the 49"'s came on the market I bought the first Samsung model they released, having gone through all the other visuals, triples etc, by far the best of the bunch and absolutely perfect for any rig. Triples tend to take up too much room and the cable management/power consumption can be a nightmare... plus, you gotta have a meaty PC to get the best from a proper triple setup etc etc...
I'm always looking for new sim racing channels on CZcams, and I'm glad I found this one. Gr8 review.
It's kind of annoying watching reviews that think having a dedicated setup specifically for 1 type of game is normal. Using triples as daily drivers is a huge pain in the ass. 3x as many cables, not being able to ever actually set the angles and monitors right, thick bezels even on "minimal bezel displays", and especially enabling and disabling Nvidia surround, which forgets your settings and screws everything up every time and barely works for anything outside games. The extra screen space you get from having triples over a double wide is actually minimal and for anything that doesn't have triple monitor correction is typically too distorted to be usable.
Just having that wide an fov in every game with no hassle and no bezels is immensely better than dealing with triples.
Fuck triples! All my homies hate triples!
I simrace on a 77" OLED!
I have been looking into starting actual sim racing and been watching your channel to learn more and then learning to make the physical items like tach and other guages
Sim setups have come along way since 2014 when I built my rig. I have often looked at the options for better wheels and would love the Moza setup.
You should try a dual screen- use your super ultra wide on the right, and on the left put a 16:9 for your left door/window/mirror. You will get both mirrors this way and it will feel like a real car.
Do you have more information on how to setup this? Any link or whatever?
@@mku4 czcams.com/video/t2Bu-ZbRDak/video.html
Nice idea, what I was specifically thinking about is the mirrors.
Great review thanks! I did not consider this option but now certainly will
I have the Samsung 49” and I also got the IR Head Tracker, I mounted the IR bubba to my headset and calibrated it… BOOM! With car racing, you can tune out anything but the horizontal input. Otherwise, if you are the kind of person that will move your head in an absolutely linear fashion it will be… errr… You get where I am going. So, with the head tracking it is fantastic! In ACC, RF2, you pick it, you just may have to tweak a bit.
Looking to get a curved screen myself as part of my new sim racing journey and came across this video thanks fof making awesome videos.
For me, a casual racer, I’d love this. Im using a 42” flat tv for my monitor. I find the bigger/wider screen feels so much better. A curve would make so much more.
Awesome vids my dude, will be interesting to watch your iracing journey being there a few years myself
I've done Triples, and the SUW Samsung Odyssey. The trade off from triples to the SUW is probably 85% but the setup more than makes up for it. The SUW just works on every game with basically no setup or fiddling around. It makes just jumping in and playing some Forza possible, it makes older titles that are a nightmare to get running on 3 monitors playable again. It's by far the best option. If I was going to do 3 monitors I would still use the SUW for the middle monitor.
i hated my triples because the samsung g5 design is so bad with the round design on the back trying to mount the plate for the triple stand and trying to align them was a pain so i gave up and caved in for a g9
With trackir, and trackir setup properly... an ultra wide monitor this size can become a very immersive experience
Didn't even know this was a thing until you mentioned it; thanks!
Thanks for the video, looking at the 49 ultra screens.
i have this monitor and have been VERY happy with it. sure its not as curved and doesn’t allow for amazing FOV but damn is it capable for its price point
was on market for something like this. thank you putting out the content. do not have the budget at the moment. ill just contemplate life with you haha
The biggest issue I have ran into with super ultrawide is that not all games support it, and you have to run a 3rd party program like Flawless widescreen to get the aspect ratio somewhat correct. Now you just need to get 2 more of them bad boys and run triple S.U.W.
A great alternative for those ,that hate the bezels on a triple monitor setup.
Thanks for this review! I'm running 21:9, and I always feel the need to go even wider to see more of the road. Triples sound good, but they take up too many ports on my GPU. First world problems for sure, but you convinced me not to upgrade :D
look up daisy chaining monitors, it works pretty good, also keep your monitors in tight, its way better then a big wide span out in front of you, look at samsoid for the calculations, i love ultra wides for the easy install but they don't compare to a well setup triple setup, and usually cheaper
Thanks for for the run down of the 49" ultra wide was tossing up between triple's or wide, Think i will stay with triples
I was debating this same thing when I started to upgrade my rig this year. Since I played on console before, it made sense for me to do 24in triples instead of an ultrawide because it allowed me to play on my xbox on a monitor until save up for my new PC (console does not support ultrawide). Also, even with 3 three 24in monitors, it was about $400 cheaper than the cheapest ultrawide in my area. But man do they look good.
This video is really helpful to my current situation. I'm stuck on what to buy for my monitor. My old one just broke down
Same.
I don't know if I am missing some glaring fault here, but it seems very obvious to me, that the best set up would be to have a 49" curved screen (effectively acting as the entire windshield) then have a flat screen either side acting as your windows. You'd be pretty much creating an almost 1:1 scale car cockpit doing that, with zero annoying bezels like you see with a normal 3 flat screen set up. I don't see anyone doing a curved screen plus two flats, and beyond price, I can't think for the life of me why no one is doing it....
I think what you forgot to mention about the lower resolution, that it enables you to not need a top tier GPU. You would probably be able to get away with a 3060(ti) and can spend the extra money on your rig, or maybe the lower pricetag even just enables you to have a really nice rig at all
This video is always a source of inspiration for me.
I am trying to validate the purchase of a screen with this definition.... but in 43/44 inches.
I have seen that some manufacturers have manufactured with this dimension.... now know how these screens really are...🤔
It would be interesting to study it from a power draw/consumption standpoint. If you're working with limited electrical ports and limited amperage, a single super ultra wide may be your only option for that level of immersion (assuming you can't do VR--which I can't).
Definitely a good point!
Well, price wise, an oculus quest 2 and a very good usb c cable would cost less, about 380 euros
You could try TrackIR. I’ve heard it’s a good alternative to VR, and it’s half the price
Fr thank you! Literally nobody cares about power consumption. Nice point for people who get sick or eye strain in VR.
@@handysaur, yes, but VR often requires more power consumption than triples because of the PC requirements to run VR. In AMS2, it's not that big of a deal, but VR in ACC takes a NASA-spec computer to run, and the grids in some countries can't handle that level of continuous current draw.
The way I see it is that if you're OK with 1080p and have the space, then may as well buy 3x1080p 27" or 32" monitors. it can even work out cheaper. Yes, you would still have the hassle of setting-up but the wider angle of view and immersion will always be better.
Bezels suck. I went from tripples to this and have a much more seemless experience and more useful display.
I never looked at my side screens really.
So I’m a ultra wide fan
I have the same monitor. I use VR for iRacing, but the Acer works quite well for the games that don’t support VR
I'm considering something similar.
It ticks most of the boxes without costing too much so that money could be used for a VR headset. Best of both visual options for a mix of games.
I have the 49" philips 499P9 and it works great for sim racing. Originally got it for work but its now setup on the sim rig. I agree with your points, spot on. One thing I'd like to point out is the FOV correct calculation. Because the aspect ratio is so wide (and thin in height) the correct FOV calibration hides the car dashboard, not a problem for me because I use an external smartphone with SIM dashboard, and have another formula wheel with a screen with all the needed info. About the right side mirrors, its true, but radar, crewchief and central mirror do the job. I would prefer a triple monitor setup, but all the factors mentioned in the video where the ones that made me go with a 32:9, specially easy of setup, space, and no bezels. Price at the time was not the real issue because it was for work and the only other option at the time was the Dell (more expensive vs features). Now there are more options and the Samsung G9, for example, I think it has great features, but really not that important for sim racing and its insanely expensive.
cheers
Can you share your FOV for Assetto Corsa / Competizione? I have identical screen, but setting FOV to see the left side feels very unnatural.
About a year and a half ago I bought the best 21:9 ultrawide curved LG with resolution of 3440x1440. I payed 1000 EUR. And in hindsight, it would be better if I bought 3x 27" or 32" 2560x1440. It would cost me the same or a little more, would have better immersion,... But I made my choice, and now have to live with it. If you want ultrawide, go super extra ultrawide or triples. "Normal" ultrawide is not that wide at all.
Hey I really liked the editing on this video!!
really like the new editting style!
To get the right mirror in view go into your game settings and adjust the camera focal length to make the focal length wider and you should be able to get the right mirror in view. Hope this helps.
Yeah but that messes up your FOV and most sim racers want that to be as realistic as possible.
I picked this monitor up for $200 2nd locally and bought a rig and hp reverb g2 from the same guy. Just about have it all setup and looking forward to using the monitor on truck simulator etc when I want to chill and keep the VR for serious sim racing
I found the SUW great for open wheelers but nothing like triples for tin tops. I made a bezel free kit and now i have a Mega Ultra Wide (MUW) and 172 hFOV.
Really like your videos, very informative. Thank you.
Nice looking and from a known brand too. Definitely worth for those who prefer ultra wide monitors.
Love that video, might as well buy the monitor for myself, its cool and it fits my price range
Love your editing man 😃💪
Thanks! Spending more and more time on it every week 😵💫😅
@@OCRacing But it's worth it👌. Great Quality.
I can see that and honestly, you have reach next level 💪
I have the Samsung, bought it during COVID when I built my SIM and was delving into the whole scene. I started with a 32” curved monitor, gave that to my fiancée. It was great, but… c’mon! Upgraded my seat to an RSeat, the monitor had to go! The Fanatec stuff also needed to be upgraded… It has become a whole thing!
Great content, keep it coming!
Lol mate that re thinking my life decisions on my way home. Hit home with me so hard haha resonated big time... Glad it's not just me and that was my exact problem right now and I don't feel so stupid haha
There's a difference between cheap and poorly manufactured and finding an economical solution that may require a few trade offs but checks most of the boxes you require.
And $700 isn't exactly pocket change for most.
This product appears to be an economical alternative to something that does roughly the same job as a similar but better product at 1/3 tye cost.
Been using 32:9 monitors for about 3 years now for both flight and racing sim - once you switch to one you simply can't go back. I still run triples with 2 27" 16:9's on the side (and actually 2 21" below in a 5 monitor setup) - it's incredible and I couldn't recommend it more.
"at 1/3 the cost"
Are you even serious
All the 1080p 32:9 monitors are in the 700-900 range. Those are the similar products, not the high range ones that go for $2000.
I want the Monza wheel !!! haha nice video bro :)
This is incredibly helpful
I went from G9 49" Superwide to triple 32" and couldn't be happier, the immersion is so much better 49 inch is really like two 27 inch monitors, by going to triple 32 you also gain height the 49" is very narrow, and that also makes a difference. Couldn't go back to a single screen.
I'm seriously considering going all in on a gaming pc for my sim racing (chugging along with my ps4 and Thrustmaster t300) and am really tempted by an ultrawide setup.
Triples died for Sim racing when VR became affordable
Ive tested it with utra wide , VR , single, triple, and by far my fastest lap times are VR and triple. VR ahead by a tiny amount im willing to scrifice to not have to wear the headset. But the diff between any single and triple is literally seconds.
Comprehensive review !
9-26-23 @ 11:20 thanks for giving me hope at 144 as I bought same acer only getting 120 on hdmi so I'll switch to dpi. I like your setup & that you are happy with for now as we realize more models in works to buy another sooner than most. Thx again. When you respond I'll share simple racing environment for your sim. Take care
Bought my Samsung Odyssey G9 used on ebay for €740. I'm still so in love a year later. Couldn't recommend it enough
Maybe try head tracking(commercial or DIY webcam) to 'regain' the real estate you're lacking.
That's why I haven't left VR since 2019 -360° monitor
Hmm, I’ll consider it
Couldn’t you simply combine it with a headtracker (like used in combat flight sims such as DCS)?
That way you’d compensate for the limited FoV by looking around, so you could still see what’s in the mirror or to your right, by tilting your head (slightly) in that direction.
I love your Alpine steering wheel decal.
Great vid👍🏻
If you want to still increase your awareness, as well as immersion, I can recommend some sort of head tracking device alongside your ultrawide monitor.
would be interesting seeing a triples setup using the super ultra wide monitor in the middle 👀
Love it, thank you for the good work
Thank you for watching! & commenting 😉
Gunna be a great video make sure you still get your 3 meals after that price
Sticking to PB&J for the next two weeks.
@@OCRacing using the monitor as plates too if you smash any
Nice video. I'm using 3 x 50 dollars old models ( bought new ) 19 inches LED monitors 4320 x 900 which gives me exactly the same field of view as most of the ultrawide models available cheap or expensive. I even get more side angles. Imho ultrawide and the miscellaneous frequency hype around is good for gaming but don't worth the price for sim racing as most of them don't have enough FOV for sim racing compared to cheaper triple screen solution.
How is the experience for close racing? Do you really miss the right side of the car?
I didn't even know about the existence of this model - I was considering an odyssey g9 for my upcoming setup.
I have a 34 inch ultrawide and I think a single massive ultrawide is superior to a triple screen setup. A huge 49" Samsung with amazing image quality is 699€ here and you would need to spend 1000€ or even more for 3 individual screens with matching image quality.
I thought about expending my existing ultrawide but id need to spend ~200€ for each monitor so that x2 is 400€ nah makes no sense id rather save up for a VR Headset.
Ultrawide or VR is the best for Sim racing.
Ultrawides in 21:9 or bigger are the future anyways. Going from 16:9 to 21:9 was incredible so I cant imagine what a 49" 32:9 feels like. The 699€ price of the Samsung Odyssey C49HG90 is really tempting.
I was actually thinking of getting such a monitor to replace two monitors for my productivity + gaming setup
Hope this helped 🫡
Used the rest of my mobile data on this, totally worth it great video 👍
Appreciate it, thank you 🙏
@@OCRacing Hopefully you survive on that pbj so you can make another
Have you tried adjusting the camera position in the settings to move your view back and see those mirrors better?
Congrats OC, i play on a 27" 1440p monitor but i never tested games on an ultra wide screen like yours. It must be insane, maybe one day i gather the strength to explain to my wife that i need an ultra wide monitor for my "childish hobby" like she likes to call video gaming. One question how is that type of screen perform on differents games (FPS, 2k, fifa, etc) ?
It's a "childish hobby" to wife my wife as well, but she sure does love scrolling through facebook and all that other horseshit.
I thought it was cheaper
It be like that sometimes 😔
@@OCRacing I think the Philips 49E9 or something is cheaper
I don’t think I can buy that lol good vid oc!
Me neither. I am severely in debt. But thanks!
got one myself and i use trackIR,best purchase i've made so far
I love ultrawide and superultrawide monitors so cool, btw what car do you own?
Ultrawide is awesome for single seaters. f1 etc
Wauwi what a great price and that moza steering wheel !!!!
Nice vids ur carrying CZcams rn!
A bit of an overstatement but thanks 😅
right now best buy ca has a Samsung 49" Ultrawide on sale for 850 cad im tempted to pull the Triger but im waiting on my head tracking to come in to see if i could even go back to a single from vr for drifting. for when i dont want to drive in vr ive tryed to use neck fx it fucks with me
LG 38" curved UW 3840x1600 144hz works quite nicely w/ 3090ti FTW3-U
Best would be a widescreen in the middle with nomal sized.monitors on the side, the monitor on the right should be further away then the left for better immersion
Nice video, love your wheel, Where can I find such stickers to enhanced my setup ?
Hey, check out this video to find out: czcams.com/video/75eU844iSuU/video.html
I have G9 the curve is what sells it .... Runs at 240hz buttery smooth... easy setup and calibration....
Okay I bought the Asus ROG strix 49" ultra wide but is it more just for immersion factor or is your FOV alot better as well? Like is it similar to triples?
I would be curious to see how this compares with a single 55" OLED as you can get a LG C1 for a great deal now. I imagine the motion clarity and overall scale of it adds to the immersion while ticking a lot of the same boxes in terms of ease of setup and simplicity.
In terms of screen space, most of that would just be additional height that you don't really need. And that's only for games that will let you zoom in the fov.
@@JZStudiosonline I find that the extra screen real estate adds to the immersion. you obviously don't gain any FOV horizontally but the extra FOV vertically can create a greater sense of speed in open wheel cars.
How did you find mounting it with the stand off screws and the little screws?
I'm looking at triple 27 inches, then upgrading my gpu/cpu desktop whatever, or just getting one ultra wide and and be able to run 144hz with some loss of fov (triple at 60hz now)
I wonder how pairing up single 49” with something like aitrack/opentrack would fair. Seems like a very good compromise in relation to triples. Anyone tried this combo?
Ultra wide is the next upgrade for me after loadcell brake!
Due to the lack of right vision you will always be in time to install a 27" 144Hz 1080P monitor and that way it will only mean having a visible frame
What fov are you running with your 49… it seemed abit high. I run 32FOV and have mine located just behind my CSL DD.
I looked into these wide screen monitors but I ended up just getting a 43” HDR 4k TV for like $300 new… works and looks great. I couldn’t justify the high cost of these.
🧢
I use an LG ultrawide monitor and it is very simular to this, just higher res and this costs around 1500.
Man, I’m strongly considering this monitor.
I’m currently addicted to vr, have you tried racing with one?
I am also considering 3x 32" monitor or 1x 49" monitor.
Except the width, 3x 32" monitor get more height.
But the bezel issues and need a triple monitor stand are the problems.
would always go with tripples if i had space
Thanks for the video..
ahh i want the thrustmaster wheel and pedals and the shifter but at the same time I want airpod pros, I don't even know which to save up for
so im guessing if I'm looking to switch to monitors from VR for streaming, I should go with triples instead of the ultrawide?
So I had a question. Could you say... 3 monitors of different size and resolutions? Say a ultrawide up from of lets say 1440 resolution.
But the left and right monitors on a regular 16x9 1080p resolution. I mean I have 2 1080p monitors, but wouldn't mind getting an ultrawide for my main forward view.
I don't mind that the left and side monitors are slightly lower resolution since its just looking out the side windows. I figure the extra monitors give me a better perspective and immersion and awareness of my surroundings. Which I want, but my highest detail should be right in front of me.
Nice wheel cover
I like it, looks very good... 👍
I sold mine not long ago, the low resolution was driving me crazy. For anyone that can deal with this it´s a cool option.
Yeah I think I'd spend the extra 100 and get the AG493UCX2 which supports 5120 x 1440 and 165hz
