I bought a C10 with a LOCKED UP ENGINE - can I get it to RUN AND DRIVE?

- Will it Run and Drive again? This old C10 Chevy pickup was being sold as parts only, which is why I originally bought it. It sat behind a mechanics shop with unknown issues for 12 years. But a guy's just GOT to try get the small block unlocked.

I am on hospice and wanted to say thank you for the hours of entertainment I get from watching. Great stuff!
Wish the thumbs up button worked twice. You are among friends here.

@@432b86ed likewise. One thing that watching Derek & family does that constantly amazes me, is show that there's actually more commonly-decent, nice folks out there. In today's world that's a great thing.
may god bless you.
Get well soon
Couple of observations.......
1. I really like these longer episodes. Kinda feels like a feller is getting a 3 for 1 deal.
2. You are an absolute natural at being in front of the camera and I truly believe you were born to do what you are doing.
3. You embody everything that is great about America. You are a national treasure.
Thanks for always bringing great content and a big smile to this fellers face.
Thank you for the kind comments!
This guy represents America.
He sure does!

"This truck isn't that bad, except for a lot of stuff." Wise kid.
Sounds like his dad!
I would kill to work for this guy, definitely one of the funniest dudes I’ve ever seen
I want to say a personal thank you. Your videos have made me get back out and work on ne n my fathers 01 trans am. We started by doing bolt ons then unfortunately he went blind and he hasn't been in the best of spirits lately especially with everything else going on. You have brought back together a father and son wrenching on a good ol muscle car. Again THANK YOU.
My brother in law has a 77 trans am hes been working on for years while going blind I've offered to help multiple times but I think it's more important for him to do it on his own just to prove he can
I too want thank Derrick for constantly reminding me of my idiotic decision to work on my own cars! My ineptitude is only exceeded by my ignorance of all things mechanical beyond an oil change. May Derrick continue to help my bruised ego sink, and may God have mercy on my soul. In Jesus name, Amen!
I got a chill reading that man. Good for you, keep on keeping on.
That's awesome!!
Y'all check out Harmless Farmer here on CZcams. He shows that one should not let a disability stop you. I won't tell you his search his name and just watch one of his videos!!! Truly an inspiration and makes you thankful for what you can do and that you should Not let anything get you down.
My favorite moment was when he turned around to his son without missing a beat, and told him to put the dust pan in the good pile before watching him run off with it. This guy’s comedic timing is impeccable
That one was pretty good🤣🤣🤣
His “sons” had that comedic timing as well. It’s in their blood
The snake dude!
What if.... modernize it. 4 spd automatic. Stock rebuild or whatever it needs. Lo $. Needs an AC kit for a goin to town rig.
The wot field trip with Bentley on board is priceless.
Watching this man is like catching up on time I missed with my own father. Keep it up feller. I'll hit the like to bring the value up 17 cents for ya❤
I don’t know 😊
Derek you are awesome! I’m a visually impaired mechanic. Stopped driving in 2015 due to going blind but just because I can’t safely drive doesn’t mean I can’t work on cars still! I love your channel! You are very genuine and your humor rocks! So next time you work on a revival imagine trying to do that with extreme tunnel vision. Definitely a big bucket list item before I go blind is to do a revival like you do with my friends and try to drive the car back home. Would be amazing. Keep it up!!! Don’t ever change!!!
Brother I pray your sight comes back and you can live your life how you want. But God loves us and allows us to go thru different levels in our life for a much greater purpose. You are my brother in Christ and I love you brother and will pray that our heavenly Father restored your vision or gives you more inhumanly ability then ever
Or just derrick your awsome❤😊
Bentley nailed it, "the truck ain't half bad, except for a lotta stuff!" Hilarious. Keep up the great videos!
🤣😂 best quote of the show yet. Needs to be on a T shirt!
Nice then honest. "there's a stick in there" 😂
Bentley described almost every truck I've owned for the last 45 years .
One more vote for the T with this on it. It'll print money for a guy. Heck I wanna buy it and I never buy this sort of stuff.
Bentley has been influenced by a guy I think... there's a 99.86% chance that he's a chip off the old block kind of a deal I think.
I laughed out loud at what Bentley said, “trucks not bad, except for a lot of stuff”. So funny
Yeah that made me laugh too I got a kick out of that
Im going back through and watching these older videos and laughing like it's the first time. Comic gold. Thank you, Derek. You are appreciated more than you know.
1:12:06 Bentley, "This truck isn't that bad except for a lot of stuff." Nailed it!
“This truck isn’t that bad!… except for a lot of stuff.” 😂😂 Bentley is my favorite little human.
It sounds like something Yogi Berra would say ! 🤣
He's a pretty good lil feller
That needs to go on a vice grip garage shirt

Hey Derrick I’m 16 and recently bought 2 c10s to restore you videos are very entertaining and teach me a lot on how to work on old vehicles.
What years?
Derek, you are amazing at what you can bring back to life... AND, you're bringing the younger generation along with you on this journey.
Love Bentley saying what every one of us were thinking... "This old truck isn't so bad, except for lots of things wrong"...
Thanks for sharing with the world...I'm a HUGE fan now.
‘70 was the first year with a “pop up” hood. 68-69 had the slanted hood. That’s one of the most fun and easiest pickups to hod rod. I love the long box.

One word of caution. Please stay current with your tetanus shots with your engine exploring.
That's not how tetanus works.
tetnuts ? taunus, tetracloride ? tuetils ?
Lol tetAnus
@Steph Cooper; Agree with Your assessment for many of the young folks these days in school, that need such a fellow to give them a spark, infusion, 'thunder n lightnin', positive jokes and such in the 'shop'.
My shop teachers were excellent during our time and taught us excellent basics, ideas, principles, including requirements of safety, proper use of tools, etc.
Your comment about 'tetanus shot' update is a common concern for some, but as the correct information and knowledge becomes known, another part of the falsehood inDOCtrination and propaganda We all have been given, 'fed', forced or otherwise, then leads to improper digestion and indigestion.
In any case, the tools and situations Derek is working with don't result in such issues anyway. Thus it is best to stay away from the Allopathy/Pharmaceutical synthetic medications and more so their false 'vaccinations' [they have no actual proof of benefits, but they do have massive evidence of harm].
Hopefully Jessica and Derek have been following the proper path of avoiding all Pharm. 'vaccine' serums and follow good, proper nutrition.
The Globalist/Elite Cabal Rockefeller Allopathy/Pharmaceutical philosophy medical system purposely lack proper information, knowledge about proper, good nutrition and has significant false, incorrect, distorted, misleading information, misinformation, disinformation about nutrition and health, within their other falsehood, pretense, etc., indDOCtrination and propaganda, so the masses of people will actually have more ailments, illness, sickness, disease, etc. as the proof since they became and gained control as the primary medical system 100-120 years ago.
Just within one generation heart and cardiovascular disease became significant and listed as the number one 'cause of death', which was rarely in existence prior. Then cancer, which is a failure of the human immune system, quickly became a significant and rose to be listed as number two, and more recently very close to behind number one. With more and more Pharmaceutical 'vaccine' serum injections in the schedule, the significant rise of allergies, food sensitivities, and other imbalance has occurred within last generation, nearly two.
Natural human immunity and the immune system are essential within the human body function and system.
The Rockefeller Allopathy/Pharm. medical system has led humans toward poor human health, and extensive medical issues, that they claim to have synthetic medications to handle ; usually via long term, and for the remaining portion of life, with increasing number of medications.
Which old people do You know that live without a significant regiment of Pharmaceutical medications, until death ?
My mother, age 90, nearly 91 [within 5-6 weeks] has a regiment of at least 6 daily medications, and many yearly procedures, which some of the younger physicians, that have become more recently involved, often see some results from which they want my mother to go for more extensive procedures, though the actual reality is the situation has not changed from the previous measured results, and have been monitored for many years.
When she manages to contact a previous, more experienced physician, that also is familiar with her situation, the response each time, that the situation is stable and the results are the same as previous, thus fine, and no further procedure is necessary.
Each year the physicians have convinced my mother to accept the yearly 'flu' shot, though We speak about it each year, including reminding about the illness she has each year, usually at the beginning of the winter months [within the next month] and the poor, incorrect, improper treatment she has gotten, resultant imbalance of her system getting worse again, then my efforts help to get her system more balanced again with Homeopathy, and still more with proper nutrition, which she has fallen further away from [though my mother sent me the original book from Nathan Pritikin back in 1984, and significantly changed, improved my base of information, knowledge, view, perspective, perception about food and nutrition which became my solid basis and use since. She did purchase and attain the book again, but for some reason resists, finding some excuse when asked if or when did she read some of it, then giving a reminder to just read a few pages each day or so, perhaps while eating. Am not residing in the same country or area of the world as my mother, for nearly 29 years, thus am limited to access by telephone and she still lacks the arranged data plans though somewhat recently has the device equipment for us to have a live video communication. She also needs someone to sit and provide proper guidance, practice, use of the device she has. A computer would be much better and easier to use too.
Each generation of physicians are more aggressive, quicker to be more involved especially with more intervention. This is the way they are taught, developed and established to behave. This is the intent, purpose, direction, dictation, and control arranged, established, infused, and placed into the system thus upon the population and has been increasing through the decades via direction, dictation and control of the Elite Cabal within their use of this system achieve their Agenda.
All The Best and Much Success in Your Quest, Health and Well Being.
Sincerely
@@newtonfirefly3584 You do you. I'll trust the medical community for the best chances of survival.
Hi Derek, I wanted to say thank you for making these videos. I don't know in particular what it is, maybe it's just the good-natured humor you put into restoring these old cars because you love their stories so much and coupled with the wonderful family you're raising, but it really gives me a lot of hope for the world. I know it's probably silly to find that in a CZcams channel about a guy fixing cars, but it really does mean a lot to me. So thank you for doing this.

That exhaust note sounds better than 90% of cars on the road today.
99.9% of vehicles on the road. Sounds amazing.
Derek knows what living in the 1970's was all about. Throwing trash over your shoulder, grabbing hot battery leads, starting vehicles by pouring gas down its yak, and rolling aimlessly through fields with hoods open, stuck throttles, wide open ignitions, without latching doors..and no bubble wrap around the children.

feels a little leathery still but i'm fine.
Beer in a cooler that you could grab through the back window. Miller mini bottles…..
Whiskey pimped through a new window washer tank pumped through an opening behind the ashtray. Kids laying in the back window. All rolled up so strangers think we have a.c. Dad trying to smack anything he can connect with from the drivers seat. Good ol days.

The Rough Greensnake, also known as the “vine snake,” occurs across the state except for upper northeastern Tennessee. Only one subspecies, Northern Rough Greensnake (O. a. aestivus), is found in Tennessee.
Description: A slender, moderately long snake (22.0 to 32.0 inches in length), which is light green and has keeled scales. Belly is white, yellow, or pale greenish. Males have longer tails than females. Young are a grayish-green color.
Similar Species: None.
Habitat: Occurs in dense vegetation, especially along the edges of streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes; often found on overhanging limbs. They can also be found along river bluffs, on forested hillsides, and in shrub and forest-edge habitat.
Diet: Consumes mainly spiders, grasshoppers, crickets, caterpillars, and dragonflies.
Breeding information: Adults mate in spring and fall. Females select a nest site under rocks, leaves, rotting logs, or bark to lay 3-10 white, elongated eggs during the summer. Eggs hatch out in late summer after incubating for 36-43 days. Females may use the same nest cavity year after year, and sometimes multiple females may use a nest at the same time.
Status in Tennessee: A fairly common snake, but can be difficult to see. Not protected.
Fun Facts:
This very arboreal, camouflaged snake is an excellent climber and becomes almost invisible in dense, green shrubs and vines.
Rough Greensnakes turn blue when they are dead.
Best places to see in Tennessee: On branches overhanging edges of lakes or streams.

Best thing about the 66-72 model chevy pick ups is; you can literally buy every single part (- cab and frame)... Brand... Spanking... New. It might be one of the few vehicles you can re-manufacture yourself! And it will be NEW.
tri 5 chevies as well
I drove a 69 Chevy stepside through highschool that came out of a salvage. My dad & I got it up & going...good memories looking at this old rig
You and your family are the finest and most respectful people and site online, plus, Derek, you crack my wife and I up especially when you open the door of these rigs for the first time. God bless you and your whole family, brothers, too.
Just have to look at the bright side:
If it rolls -- it can be made to roll faster.
If it is leaking oil and fluids -- it HAS oil and fluids in it.
If you have to pull it onto a trailer -- it still has metal parts that are strong enough to take the strain of pulling.
If it has a rusty frame, that means the frame is still there
You’re finding a snap on wrench reminds me of my happiness when it happened to me. I owned an MGB convertible and one night when I was having too much Fun I blew through a T intersection in the country and found myself at the bottom of a very wide and very grassy culvert. I tried driving back up but couldn’t make it through the damp grass. So I tried to run out it at an angle and got up a good amount of speed before hitting a berm that had been built across the culvert. I didn’t see this coming and was almost over and going down the other side before I managed to turn and got back on the road.
The next morning well afternoon, I went out to try to pull some of the grass from the undercarriage. And in the back of the front under bumper spoiler I found a quarter inch snap on socket wrench with an extension, a U joint, and a spark plug socket. How it had managed to stay there in the months since I’d bought the car and survived my wild ride into the culvert, I don’t know. Not bad.
I remember a less exciting ride! I was the first customer to remove parts from a '77 Monte Carlo.... I found a complete 3/8 S-K ratchet kit under the bench seat. It was in the plastic green box. 🤑🤗 Nice present and a tilt steering column, the color I needed too! The column was 25.00. Back in 1983. Oh, the time has passed. I had 3 complete NICE sets of swivels for 50.00 each set, and a instrument panel with console for a 73 Laguna, wiring to the fuse box, removed by me for 20.00
One of Chevy's best and in my opinion most stylish truck they ever built!
"hit the brake pedal. You're not gonna believe this....."
I'm crying laughing at that whole story! 😂😂
Love how Bentley is right there to help. He is a cute little guy.
I've realized why I love your videos: it's the optimism. I love how you can take on a near impossible rig, with little to no chance of revival, and then say "she's a goin' to towner, fellers (and fellets)." Not only that, you also MAKE IT RUN! That level of positivity and skill is inspirational. It's also hilarious.
I would think that a "goin to town rig" WOULD be a runner... 😆

It's very peaceful to watch you bring these motors back to life
I have a 91 Chev half ton That has set for almost 10 years and it was froze up and since I used to be a Plumbing contractor and welded a lot in my past I got a 1/4" plate steel and a 1 1/2' pipe and welded it to it and bolted it to the crank and put a 36" pipe wrench on it with a snipe that almost hit the hood. I had already juiced all the cylinders with ATF Marvel Mystery oil and let it set for a while and I rocked it back and fourth with 2 pipe wrenches back and fourth until it came free and now it runs great just like before I parked it. Had to put a new electric fuel pump and relay and battery in they went bad but it works great now.

Love that year body style. My cousin had one. The 6 popper was getting tired so we pulled it and put in a 400 pontiac engine and transmission unit. Shortened the driveshaft. That thing went like a scalded dog. Early 80's. Good times back then.

You inspired me to go out and challenge myself with a 94 GMC Sierra that been sitting under some trees for 10 years. Paid $500 for it, just so happen to have a cracked block. So I rebuilt my first 350 4-bolt main and slapped it in there and she purrs like a kitten. Thanks for showing me how to set the valves by the way! That video definitely benefited me in the rebuild process! Wish I could meet you to shake your hand man! Keep it up! Much love from south Louisiana!

Can’t believe how good it ran on that first start after being locked up. Crazy. Entertaining as always! 👍
I miss the days when trucks didn’t sit quite so high, a 2wd with 3 on the tree or 3-4 on the floor was sufficient for most any task and the stance was simple but onry. We’ve reached a point with designs and gadgets that we’ve gone too far to turn back around. I love this channel for many reasons, but I love it most for the chance to see these fine old machines come back to life. They’re a part of our past and it makes me happy to see your boys and your wife involved as well. Thank you for the content, Derek.
I agree, listen I’m 13 with a 1985 Dodge W350 power ram, I bought it because I wanted to make memories with it and memories I have, from my grandpa to my dad to friends(no longer friends) we have a 67 Fairlane 500Convertable but it’ll take to much money right now, I love the piss out of this truck and the only reason I’m this far is because of my dad, yes memories do count and that one day I’m gonna have the truck and our Fairlane to remember I don’t like to think of that day but I have memories.
I think its because now our technology has surpassed our humanity. Streets loaded with pavement princesses on one side and homeless and hungry children on the otherside. Its a pretty but sad day we live in these days.
@@AidenShields424 did you mean 23
@@apeaape he could have meant 13, I built my first engine when I was 9. Car kids a car kid
@@AidenShields424 Lot's of wisdom there. I'm really impressed.
For the headlight switch you are supposed to leave the knob on the shaft. To get it off you reach up behind the dash and there is a small round button on the top of the headlight switch. Pull the light switch out 2 clicks then push the button and the shaft with the knob will pop out. Once it's out gently push in and it will shut the lights off without locking back in. When you want to put it back on just push it in till it clicks a third time. Sweet truck! I'll be trying my luck, it would look good next to my 78 shorted 4x4 😁
These videos always put a smile on my face getting these old cars and trucks running again I'm in the process of buying an old 70s Chevy truck with an inline 6 that's been sitting up and I learned a lot from this video
Hi Derek, good to see you back on a revival! Hope you and the family had a nice Thanksgiving
*- YES, YES, YES: impressive revival, too.*
WOW......I never would have expected that engine having a chance! My jaw literally dropped when it fired up. Derek, you are the real "engine whisperer"...lol! Great job!
Thanks for watching Nate
Love it I could watch your show all day takes me back did a lot of same thing don't miss the knuckles bleeding lol
I've actually used CLR on an old model A motor that had been sitting for 42.4136 yrs. Worked like a champ to free it up.
Best mechanic show on the whole platform. Cool cars, good humor, great music too. A feller is now hooked for life. Thanks Derek.
47:09 Axe Body Spray will bring out undesirables for sure. Brut will bring out the good fellers.
And yeah, working outside this time of year in Tennessee, you’re gonna have a lot of back-talking birds. I think they’re mostly cranky and tired from having just flown 1263.5aught7 miles south from their usual home in order to keep from freezing.
I had a smile on my face just watching all of you guys enjoying the old cars and good company!
Love to watch you do the impossible on these old engines. You sure have the knack to know what to do and trouble shoot. Impressed!!
When Derick uploads, it's time for me to drop everything that I'm doing.
No matter how sad or depressed I feel. Every time I watch your videos I end up forgetting all my worries and smile and even learn a thing or two.
Thank you very much for making my life happier and teaching me.
Keep up the good work!

No need to feel depressed. Just start working on something. Workout or even cleanup. Life only gets better with effort.
It's amazing how you can get these wrecker queens running again you rock and you incorporate the family that's the best watching you work with them
The blue bow ties are the best...! Once they went to the gold bow tie, they started putting computers and way too much digicals...!!! Stick with the blue bow ties and you'll be happy... Thanks for sharing... Keep up your awesomeness...
You just can't give up on a vehicle that others say are a junk. Thanks for being determined to see them run.
I like this truck. I was really impressed how you got it to come around and run again, and it runs great! I would keep it looking the same, just fix the doors, patch the floors, make it stop and it would make a good shop truck.
Maybe an old video but I completely loved watching you bring it back to life thank you very much
"This truck isn't that bad!" "Except for a lot of stuff." I completely agree with Bentley's assessment.
Between Derek and Dylan there's only going to be Ford's left around TN lol! Thanks for the full length feature again, even the kids saddle up for these long vidja adventures!
Hey that means i've got a fighting chance to one day find a crew cab 70's ford pickup haha
@@nou8257 Crew cab? Hope you're fighting with a thick wallet, them things have gone astronomical in price! Good luck on the hunt!!
@@deadclutch Yep I'm in no rush to get one I got some things to try to finish before I would find one unless one sorta falls in my lap
