    Great video. As the "designated rules teacher" of my group, videos like this are invaluable for merging rulebook knowledge with actual gameplay mechanics. What an interesting use of the subtitle channel for conveying rules mistakes.

    You're very good at this. Especially with complex and complicated games, it is hard to find walk-throughs. Thank you!!

    On page 7 of the rulebook in the bottom right corner, it states that "you can never have more mana than slots unless a card/gear/ability specifically states that you can". At 43:42, gained +1 mana while you were already at max mana.
    Of course this is easily remedied by spending one of those mana immediately before the action to gain 4 coins via your completed quest card. (Which you did at 51:00.)

    Reminds me a bit of The Witcher with an overworld map that players traverse to gain resources and power up their characters. The obvious difference is that The Witcher uses a deckbuilding mechanic to gain trophies to victory, whereas Now or Never uses a euro style resource production/conversion engine to generate points through quests and building. Now or Never also seems to have greater complexity with with less luck than The Witcher. Now or Never also reminds me a bit of Vindication. I like it!

    I happy to see a Ryan Laukat game that I can play solo. I really like his art and the universe of Azrium (sp?). Up until now, I've only been able to admire them from afar. I'm heading over to your final thoughts to see if this one is worthy of my shelf space. :)

    I love the art. Those enemies are way darker, and grittier. Also the hero art and building art seems to be more intricate compared to earlier red raven art. By the way, the first fight is shown at 1:05, and the story book mode is first shown at 1:09 (spoilers in the story!) :-)

    At 1:07:45, during combat, you defeated the enemy. Since damage is done SIMULTANEOUSLY, the enemy should have dealt 3 damage where again, you would use your shield and only take 1. I had a similar situation and didn't know exactly what to do, so I posed the question to BGG. Yes...you do take the damage even if you defeat the enemy.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 3 lety +1

      i've kept all 3, but n&f is the heaviest game, so if i could only keep one, it would be that one. this would be the #2 choice :)

    • @BoardGameQC
      @BoardGameQC Před 3 lety

      @@rahdo Nuh, you've done well. I think the problem is exactly the fusion. I liked A&B because it was simple. I love Near and far because it was beautiful and with deep tactics and strategy and brilliant storytelling. NoN seems to try have it both ways and be great at none. I dunno, maybe it's just me. Also, the artwork of this one is a big step down for me. Ryan spoiled me with A&B and N&F on that aspect, and this one just doesn't have the same charm.

      Note added for the first one...
      The 2nd you are incorrect, Buying an Hero Upgrade is an anytime action (like Richard said in the video at the time, it's a bonus action) that doesn't count as your action for the turn... so he bought the upgrade and then took his normal action, nothing was done wrong at that point.
      cheers

  • @Sayuiv
    @Sayuiv Před 3 lety

    I love Laukat style, and i think that Sleeping Gods is his masterpiece.
    Now or Never looks a bit all over the place. I think he went a bit too far XD
    A huge main board. A side board, each player with 2 boards and the space for buildings. Everything soo big. A lot of "pieces" and just for 60$, great deal for your bucks but what you save you gonna end to spend it for a bigger table XD

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 3 lety +2

      the main board is actually pretty tiny, and each player's grid of tiles takes up very little space if you tuck them together. the only oversized thing is the board that has the conversion rates on it. it probably would have been better for that to be a player aid, because the other use for the board (keeping track of round # and prestige) could have been done with some dice or similar...
      sleeping gods is pretty incredible, but in the end, i'd prefer to play this one, because i think ryan is a better competitive game designer than co-operative (just my opinion though) :)

    • @Sayuiv
      @Sayuiv Před 3 lety

      @@rahdo Thanks for the reply! From the video it looks everything quite big, so i was worried for the space required if playing in 3 or 4 players.
      Regarding which one is better, despite the fact i always followed Laukat work, i played only Sleeping Gods, so i trust you in this :)
