This episode focuses a lot on a personal story. Should we continue doing this or do you think it is too private? Let us know if you want to know stories of buildings or stories of people.
Please also let us know how many swans you can count in this video!

YES! Please keep telling the personal stories!! It is history that needs to be told! It adds faces, names and give an emotional aspect that needs to be seen and heard when looking at their decayed homes. This way you can picture them in their home cooking, cleaning, reading books or out in the farm feeding their animals. I did not know that this beautiful entertainer suffered from nerve damage. I can relate. Im waiting for surgery on my back so I can walk better and hopefully rid the the pain I'm in. Thank you for what you do! Stay safe!

Yes. Swan lake is a physically DEMANDING ballet. Very few make the cut...and being chosen for it paves your way in many ways. I studied dance as a teen..and part of my education was dance theory...i did not know what had happened to her. How sad her ending. We covered her...and watched videos of her to study...she was brilliant.

  • @SimpleDesertRose
    @SimpleDesertRose Před 4 lety +84

I lost count of the swans before you even mentioned counting them. However I can give you an idea of why the Swan theme may have been so prevalent throughout the hotel. Being as she has been a ballerina her whole life, she would have dreamt possibly even danced in the famous ballet Swan Lake. Next to the Nutcracker it is something every young girl studying ballet hopes to dance in. Having danced myself when I was young, I remember striving to be as perfect as a swan. Swans are a symbol of grace and beauty. So perhaps when she put her entire fortune into her husband's hotel, the swans were here personal touch of grace and elegance. Dancers often have a hard life. They put so much into dance and as they are training there is the constant nag in the back of your mind that you are not good enough. In order to make it to the principle level you must push your body farther and harder than the others in order to be noticed. So if she suffered from depression it is not surprising. So much of a dancers life is based off looks that when you get too old to dance or your body wears out, you become painfully aware of how you look. Instead of having all the grace suddenly you look like a cripple. It's a harsh reality of a dancer. So it is possible that she suffered such a severe depression that she couldn't bear it any longer and simply jumped. Anyways another great video. Looking forward to the next. 👍😁

for the swam, i thoug the same thing and as for the dancing thing, i find it sad because x months ago i told myfel and realise tat dancing is not made to be judge at or to make fun at, its made to have fun and to helps get rid of your negativity energy. i wish dance concour and definatly beauty concour would ceaseto exist becuase i find it ridiculous that in a world over 1 billion pepol u ket 3 to 5 pepol tell you u do not dance well or your not beautiful, i remeber x years ago seeing part of a beauty concour documentary and seeing 1 in brasil and theres was a girl that could not stoped cryng and saying how ugly she his and i was like WO YOU ARE KIDDING ME, SHES 1 OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN I EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, i wish i was there to tell her how truly beautiful she hes until she stop seeing the lies and also after we kiss and more.

I read about the upcoming game Chernobylite. The developing team told they had filmed so much stuff in Pripyat and surroundings for the game that some parts are now gone for good partly because of the major fires that raged there some time ago.
So i can compare it easily to exploring scene for saving important and almost forgotten history before it's really gone for good.

A glimpse into a grand dame hotel! The murals reminded me of my grandfather who had painted murals. Many of his works are lost. Some were painted inside of beautiful yachts which are presently resting on the ocean floor! He painted mermaids. We have one of his water colors with turquoise, lavender, and purple mystical coloring. My great uncle Harry Craig Smith also painted. He did quite a number of desert landscapes. He had a muted style. I researched his works and found many for sale online from prominent aution houses.

As you guys say in the video, it is just too old fashioned. It was aboned 10 years ago but it looks like something straight out of the 70's (look at the curtains and the tiles in the swimming pool area)
A lot of these places still exist in the alps. Large complexes where hundreds of guests can stay at a time, claiming to be 4 stars and luxurious, but the reality is that the hotel can barely keep the outdated stuff running and thus has no money left for renovations or investments. Eventually even the families who have been going to the same hotel for years stop coming because it is not worth the expense anymore.
But then again, often within the village a new hotel is built. Or, what is especially popular right now: these investment parks with individual chalets equiped with all the luxury you need like a sauna and whirlpool. Families start to go there and in 30 years you get the same effect as what happend with these grand hotels, they get outdated.
As a dutch I really like wintersports, but I am worried for the future: Corona, global warming and the effect on the natural landscape with all the new chairlifts being built.

As someone with many friends in the Tyrolean hospitality industry and against the backdrop of the Corona Crisis, the state of this hotel almost brings me to tears. When the hotel went bankrupt, it took the whole village with it. Instead of finding a job in tourism, most younger residents now have to leave for the district's main town.
What happened in Ischgl this year was a mistake, but a mistake that was carried by many - the owners of the Kitzloch and other bars and hotels just as well as governor Platter, chancellor Kurz, and many tourists who decided to continue their skiing trip elsewhere instead of taking the order to quarantine seriously. If you know how much the state of Tyrol depends on tourism and how destitute people in the mountains were before it, it is hard to take part in another round of the blame game.

You are such a talented filmmaker, the mood you set is perfect, a bit mysterious, a little melancholy, always respectful. Such a good idea to try to match old photos to juxtapose old and new.
I’ve always been fascinated by abandoned places, especially when items are left and it’s like a time capsule, leaving me to wonder all the stories about the place. Like who lived there, for how long, what happened to them or did they leave? And why? Who is the owner now? Why have they left it to just decay? How long till nature reclaims the place?
So I am interested in the actual buildings and the history, but mainly in the context of the people who inhabited them. I’m always curious to know their stories.
Thank you for doing such a beautiful job of capturing these places before they completely go away. I’d love to travel around Europe again someday, I don’t know if or when I can, but I can enjoy a little tour with you guys in the meantime.

Kinda hard to count swans as it seems same ones shown multiple times however, The Swan was in mite places than the faucets, maybe a theme to the Hotel...?
What a waste however with all the animals who need places to shelter safely...yes i know people too but animals have no voice, and are some of the most abused, neglected innocent beings in the world.
All over the world I see places that could have been donated, written off, given to honest shelters for animals , maybe also permanent sanctuaries for animals to live their lives...
    Sad....
    Take care guys...😚❤
