  • In this video, I uncover the wasted potential where good moves and abilities were given to bad Pokémon. If these Pokémon had better stats, typing, or movepool, they would probably see a lot more use.

      @@ninjakirby777 the reality is with 1000+ pokemon there is no way they can all be good. And since Gen 1, it's never been the intention to do this. Gen 1 had some bad pokemon with interesting moves (Hyper/Super Fang on Raticate, Spore on Parasect, Twin Needle on Beedrill)
      In a non-competitive context (I.e. solo gaming) these moves and abilities on mediocre pokemon will give you some reason to use them. Or if you like a pokemon due to design then you can get something unique or interesting to do with them.
      In a competitive context, it's harder but as I said it's not uncommon for these pokemon to find use. And while not intended, it has allowed for the tiered play we see in Smogon or other formats like draft league or random battles

      @christiancinnabars1402 Před 21 dnem +2

      @vandelay33 Most people aren't expecting all 1000+ Pokemon to be OU or VGC viable. But Game Freak could 1) at least try to update the obviously powercrept stats of older mons in a more impactful way than occasional +10s (boosting up what are literally just raw numbers in the code across all Gen IV and prior mons should not be a decade+ long endeavor), and 2) not pull things like giving the physically leaning Volbeat a signature move that only boosts its pitiful Sp. Atk. It _already_ has enough going against it.
      For a gauge on just how bad Tail Glow on Volbeat is, in Gen 3, Tail Glow only boosted Sp. Atk by +2 instead of the current +3. Swords Dance was its physical counterpart, and was already widely distributed and given to mons like Heracross, Scizor, and Pinsir. Not Volbeat, though, since it already had Tail Glow.

    One dumb defense I hear for Dudunsparce is to _"have a sense of humor"_ about it.
    I ain't laughing.
    The Yo-Kai Watch series has its own tsuchinoko named Noko and they gave that cute guy at LEAST 20 forms based on its line INCLUDING a huge hulking dragon form (look up 蛇王軍ツチノコ and you will see what I mean).
    Compare that design to Noko to what Game Freak did with Dudunsparce.
    Now THAT is what I call comedy.

    4:01 I'm a dunsparce fan since before gen 9, and I gotta tell you, Dudunsparce is peak Pokemon design. In my book Dunsparce was already peak Pokemon design, and I was afraid of it just changing too much if it evolved, so the only way to surpass peak is by doubling it! Dudunsparce is easily the best thing to come out of SV in my opinion, I'm not hating on SV, I personally really like it and it's pokemons.

  • @RadiativeChester
    @RadiativeChester Před 9 dny

    Disliked it before even watching.
    It's not about "wasted potential", it's about "giving those bad pokemon a reason to exist by having an unique niche". If we had another pokemon with Tail Glow and Baton Pass, why would people use Volbeat?
    Want me to give an example using good pokemon? Dragon/Flying type. We have Salamence, who has Intimidate and a good mixed set. We have Dragonite, who keeps getting better tools every generation (Extreme Speed, Multiscale, etc). And we have Altaria, which is... bad. Except Altaria is the most used Dragon/Flying in the competitive GBA era when legendaries are allowed, because of the move Pursuit (which no other Dragon/Flying has), allowing it to remove opposing Deoxys from other teams. If Dragonite or Salamence had it, Altaria would never be used...

    "Dudunsparce was a bad evolution" massive L take. Just because you didnt get a giant badass dragon doesnt mean it was a bad evolution. It is entirely YOUR fault for gaslighting yourself into turning Dunsparce into a completely different pokemon than it actually is. Dudunsparce is a very fitting evolution and actually makes sense with the pokemon.
